Kyosei, Hoshi [WiP] Bastio10

Kyosei, Hoshi.

THE INFO.
Kyosei, Hoshi [WiP] Bastio11

Name: Hoshi Kyosei

Nickname:
Sadachi's White Dwarf: A name used in mocking by those Kyosei aware of his existence and significance. Hoshi means 'star', a name chosen in anticipation of his potential for greatness, due entirely to his outstanding pedigree. Hoshi's most striking features are his remarkably short stature and pure white hair. A combination of these features, in reference to the complete failure Hoshi turned out to be, created his nickname. 'White Dwarf', a prefix for a star that is also known scientifically as a 'Degenerate Dwarf', is, by the account's of those who coined this name, very fitting for the immense disappointment that Hoshi turned out to be.

Age: 15

Gender: Male

Appearance:
Hoshi tends to stand out from the crowd, if one can spot him. His most evident feature is his remarkably short height. Standing at 4’3” Hoshi could easily be called a ‘dwarf’ or ‘midget’. This short height, however, is not due to the traditional growth defect known as ‘dwarfism’. Rather, Hoshi suffers from ‘Osteogenesis Imperfecta’ or ‘Brittle Bones Disease’. This is, in most ways, an even worse condition, Hoshi’s bones break with incredible ease. To a degree, Hoshi’s body had adjusted to the condition, with his bones healing at an outstanding rate. Secondary effects of this disease are evident in Hoshi’s reduced muscular tone, especially when compared to other Shinobi. Hoshi possesses a muscular structure only slightly better than that of an average civilian. This is due to the reduced amount of training caused by his easily broken bones, and further accentuated by the nature of his Kekkei Genkai.

In terms of facial features, Hoshi would, more or less, possess the typical qualities of his clan’s noble families, if it weren’t for his albinism. The albino Hoshi has striking, pure white hair, which he generally allows to grow as long as possible without being considered ridiculous. All of Hoshi’s hair is white, including facial hair and eyebrows. Hoshi also possesses the typical, light red eyes of an albino, with his sclera being tainted a very faint, light blue from his Brittle Bones Disease. While the white hair is beyond his control, Hoshi uses a special pair of contact lenses to make his eyes appear brown and hide the blue tinge in his sclera. Albino features aside, Hoshi’s facial features are well defined and make him seem rather more mature than he actually is. This feature is typical of his clan’s noble families.

In terms of clothing, Hoshi maintains the clan tradition of shunning casual clothing. Instead, Hoshi always wears a functional combat outfit. At its most simple, Hoshi’s outfit consists a simple, brown pair of pants and shirt. On the torso are thin metallic plates fastened with leather belts and hugging very close to his body. While these plates break very easy and serve no function as armour, they help to secure Hoshi’s bones from impacts during strenuous activity. Hoshi also wears thick leather boots that fit over his entire lower legs. Finally, Hoshi wears a simple, red bandana, tied around his neck, which he has a habit of pulling up to cover his mouth.

Forehead Protector: Worn around Hoshi's left arm as a sort of wrist guard.

Personality:

Unconfident:
Hoshi's entire personality is underpinned by a distinct unease and uncertainty. In most situations he will often be lost in thought in the process of trying to figure out what to do. Even when Hoshi does decide on a course of action, he usually tends to be unsure as to whether or not it was the correct thing to do.

This is due, in part, to a very polarized and unique viewpoint he has that is almost beyond his comprehension. A particular set of very powerful experiences have caused Hoshi to jump to unique conclusions about the nature of life. These beliefs are, in a way, beyond him, in that they have been founded without the necessary experience. Hoshi's realm of experience is very narrow, making him immature in a way. As such, his beliefs often fail to be consistently applied to most situations.

Due to his unique beliefs causing internal conflict on the correct course of action, Hoshi is forced to constantly second guess himself. Because of this he has developed a deep lack of confidence.

Stubborn:
In almost polar opposition to his under confidence, Hoshi is particularly stubborn on some matters. In terms of his core beliefs and ideals, Hoshi adamantly refuses to change himself. Because of this, logical scrutinization of his beliefs often fall on deaf ears.

At a time, this stubbornness might have been a powerful determination. However, the trauma that Hoshi has suffered twisted this determination into his bitter stubbornness. The confidence and optimism that are characteristic of determination have been mostly removed from Hoshi. They were replaced with cold, unrelenting willpower that acts as a fundamental force in Hoshi’s personality.

It is this unyielding stubbornness that keeps Hoshi alive. Amongst his fierce adherence to his beliefs is his powerful urge to survive. This survival instinct is the main mechanism through which Hoshi is capable of surviving the unique circumstances created by his Kekkei Genkai.

Independent:
Hoshi’s primary ideal is one of independence. Hoshi will, in general, refuse to get help from others. He defines this as despising the idea of relying on others at their burden. Hoshi has a powerful belief that he must sustain himself by his own strength alone, and that those who rely on others are simply parasites. This self-reliance is particularly focused towards his Kekkei Genkai, which he adamantly refuses to use as he fears growing dependent on it and sees it as strength that is not his own.

The source of this resolve to maintain strict independence is the most evident result of the most traumatic event in Hoshi’s life. During a 3 month period, Hoshi was immobilized and on the brink of death. Due to particular circumstances, his survival required the sacrifice of 33 people. Hoshi, who at the time had developed the ideal that all people had a right to survive, saw this as a complete violation of that ideal. It was through this situation that Hoshi developed the belief that all forms of relying on others is, by nature, parasitic. This belief further developed into his stark refusal to receive help.

Bitter:
Hoshi’s outlook on the world is dominated by a distinct bitterness. A result from the trauma and unfair circumstances he has gone through. He will often take a pessimistic or cynical approach to situations, and has a habit for dark humour and offensive jokes. He often comes across as disrespectful to his superiors, and uncaring to his peers. Hoshi also has a tendency for petty arguments and holding grudges.

33 lives:
Hoshi’s only ambition is to atone for the 33 lives that were sacrificed for his life. He believes that, until he has made up for the 33 lives he took by saving 33 lives, he will be unworthy of living his own life. This objective is solid and unyielding, Hoshi is entirely devoted to it. It is through this goal that Hoshi avoids the immense feeling of guilt that should have come from such a large breach of his ideals of independence.

The number currently stands at 33, for each life Hoshi saves, it will be reduced by one. For each life Hoshi undeservingly takes, it will be increased by one. Hoshi defines an undeserving life taken as a life being taken for his own benefit without him doing anything to deserve it, such as fighting for it.

Clan: The Kyosei Clan

Nindō: "I refuse to live my life as nothing but a parasite. I will prosper and thrive by my own strength alone".

THE NINJA.
Kyosei, Hoshi [WiP] Bastio12

Origin: Sadachi Island (The Minor Nations)

Affiliation: Kirigakure

Rank: Genin

Specialities: Weaponry/Ninjutsu

Elemental Affinities: Wind/Lightning

Combat Style:

The best way to simply describe Hoshi's combat style would be, desperate yet cautious, chaotic yet graceful. When fighting other ninja Hoshi's various defects put him at a severe disadvantage, often forcing him to use unorthodox means of attack and exploit every weakness and opportunity to it's fullest.

Due to Hoshi's bone defects, even a glancing hit from other ninja could end the battle if Hoshi is not prepared. If Hoshi were to receive a straight punch without any sort of preparation, it would likely break all bones in the area of contact and fracture many others. It's not just enemy attacks that could break Hoshi's bones though. Generally any rapid acceleration or deceleration can fracture or break his bones. In other words, great care must be taken in dodging. The strain placed on the bones both when leaping away from an attack, and landing from said leap, have the potential to break Hoshi's bones.

Over the years Hoshi has developed his own countermeasures to this condition. First would be learning to utilize his small stature and light weight. An opponent of Hoshi's size is rare in the ninja world, and consequentially, most opponents have a hard time adjusting to the quirks of fighting a dwarf. In most cases, excessive dodging is not needed for Hoshi to evade an attack. His small frame means that he can often simply move slightly to dodge an incoming attack. Secondly, and most importantly, Hoshi has created a unique ninjutsu to soften impacts on his bones. 'Hone Makura' or 'Bone Pillow' allows Hoshi to cushion his bones from the strain of moving quickly. Thirdly, over the years Hoshi has fine tuned his own movements to reduce damage to his bones. This is most evidently seen through Hoshi's fluid, almost graceful movement, avoiding sharp changes of speed and direction. Hoshi will tend to allow himself to roll upon landing from a leap, even a small one. He changes direction most commonly by allowing himself to pivot on the balls of his feet in a circular motion. With necessary care taken into his motions, along with his Bone Pillow jutsu, Hoshi can greatly reduce the risk to his bones when evading enemy attacks.

Hoshi's other debilitating condition is that his chakra system is, in a way, limited. The condition has never been professionally, medically observed, meaning that it is not well understood. However, it's effects are obvious. It seems as if Hoshi's chakra system has a limit to how much can pass through it at once. While this limit can, too some extent, be broken, it results in immense pain for Hoshi, eventually forcing him to pass out. At the moment Hoshi has no way around this disadvantage. It severely limits the amount of jutsu he can perform at once, especially when he is using Bone Pillow.

While Hoshi does adamantly refuse to use his Kekkei Genkai, it is conceivable that a situation could compel him to make an exception. The Kyokey, the most evident component of the Kyosei's Kekkei Genkai, is an appendage grown out of the body and detached to be used as a weapon. The exact shape of this weapon greatly varies from person to person, in Hoshi's case it takes the form of a spear. The spear is both light weight and durable, and can be used to great effect by Hoshi, using his small size and agility to dart around the opponent searching for an opportunity to impale them. The more subtle component of Hoshi's Kekkei Genkai is his Kyokai. The Kyokai is a symbiotic organism that is responsible for the creation of the Kyokey. In Hoshi's case the Kyokai has become independent, or, 'vagrant'. This means that it is capable of exercising it's own predatory instinct over Hoshi. In battle, if Hoshi uses his Kyokey the connection between him and his Kyokai improves. In general this makes Hoshi significantly more ruthless, and imbues him with a primal, fighting instinct.
