We've learned without a doubt that the Mudfolk are the ones responsible for the latest suspicious actions surrounding the village. Their people hold a strong grudge against Kumogakure over the deaths of their kin many generations ago and it is likely they have a biased perspective on history. They were the aggressors in the past and paid the price, but they have grown up being taught otherwise. Scouts have identified some groups of the Mudfolk who seem hesitant about opposing us. Approach these nomadic tribes and speak with them about the uprising their ancestor's attempted. Try to convince them that we did not kill their great grand parents without good reason to prevent them from supporting their fellow Mudfolk in future attacks.

Reading through the briefing of the mission Gurren grinned as he set out on his first real mission back in the village. He had never heard stories of the Mudfolk battles so this mission in terms of history meant little to him in a sentimental sense. For Gurren this was more of a starter mission than anything else, without a team of his own to belong to he was forced to run missions on his own for the time being. It was like he was interested in teaming up with a bunch of kids either, as most Genin were fresh out of the academy. He couldn’t help feeling empathetic towards the Mudfolk, the clan that had wiped them out, the Kousen, were as strong as ever and were thriving after the conflict took place. It was a feeling he knew of all too well whenever he looked at the might Senju clan.

His clan however, was no stranger to generations old grudges, with a hatred stemming back to the period of the warring clans he had been raised to hate the Senju clan for their outcast of his clan from Konohagakure and the diminishing of his clans numbers and strength. His father hated them with all of his heart so Gurren could understand just how the Mudfolk felt, much like he and his father the people had lost many of their ancestors to a war they could never win. Tucking the scroll away in his cloak he began towards the area the nomadic tribes were last seen, that would be the best place to start. With the flaming cloak blowing behind him, the Uchiha crest emblazoned across his back, he began what would be the beginning of his true story and a tale that would without a doubt help shape the future, for the Uchiha, and the world itself.

It wasn’t too long before Gurren was able to hone in on one of the nomadic tribes. Sitting in a tree near the tribe’s current camp he had to think of his plan of attack. Reading the situation between the Mudfolk and the Kumo he knew he had to approach this delicately. Leaping down from the tree he approached the camp with a confident stride. It wasn’t long before they noticed the symbol of the Cloud on his thigh and approached him with their weapons drawn. Raising his hands up he grinned, “I’m not here to fight, just looking to talk to whoever’s in charge of this tribe.”

“Like we’d let some Kumo scum get anywhere near our chief!” the ninja approached the Uchiha, who was unfazed  by the clansmen surrounding him.

“Kumo or not, I have no weapons and have already surrendered, if you killed me now the village would just send a group out to find me, is it really worth it?” always a quick thinker and with a way with words Daisuke was sure he would be able to get himself an audience with the chief.

“Why would you come out here alone if you didn’t have something planned?” The tribesman held up his sword near Daisuke’s chest as he demanded an answer from the Genin. The mudfolk had numbers without a doubt, and they were probably much more skilled than a simple Genin. Despite his skill level he was still a lone Genin, if he couldn’t rely on his skills he would have to use his mind to get out of this one.

“I already told you, I just want to talk to the chief. I just want to try to bring some peace, if we keep looking at the past we can’t look towards the future.” With his hands still raised he shrugged, “like I said, I just want to talk, if you really won’t let me I’ll leave without any trouble.”

“For us it goes back to the warring states, my father and sister hate the Senju. For me though, it’s like this,” sitting down around a small table across from the nomadic Mudfolk chief was the young Uchiha, explaining his thoughts on generations old feuding. “If I hate the Senju for something that happened hundreds of years ago I can never move forward myself. Looking at the past prevents us from seeing the future.”

“Young Uchiha, Kumogakure attacked us relentlessly, those ninja showed us no mercy. These were our grandparents, we can’t forgive something like that,” the chief remained calm despite his heated words, there were a few elite ninja of the tribe protecting their chief but only the two were speaking with each other. “Surely you must want to avenge your clan?”

“I’m just one Uchiha. I can’t avenge our clan on my own, what I can do is try to bring some peace between our clans. Even if it’s by making friends by a like-minded Senju, it might just be enough to change something,” placing his hand on his knee he wiped his nose with his other hand. “The Senju won, the Uchiha hate them. We’ve been fighting back for generations, and have made no ground. I think if something isn’t working, you have to try something new, otherwise we’d just be idiots y’know?”

“For us, it’s still fresh in our minds, it seems like yesterday that our families were being slaughtered. For you it was ages ago, long before your grandparents and parents were even alive.” He stroked his short beard and looked across the table as he raised an eyebrow he spoke again, “The Uchiha have certainly been in this longer than we have. You seem like a bright young ninja, what made you let go of that hatred?” The chief leaned forward, awaiting the answer of the gifted Genin.

“I’m just taking a chance, hoping that my grandchildren aren’t going to be cursed with this ingrained hatred. I’d much rather have the Uchiha and the Senju work together, using our strengths together, to create a brighter future. I don’t want my children to have to live in fear and hatred of another clan who did nothing to them. Looking back on the past doesn’t do anyone any good,” the earnest and sincere tone in his voice was coming through more than it had. Looking the chief in the eyes he spoke from his heart, “Ultimately you guys are going to make your own decision. But if you could just… not join up with the other Mudfolk, work with us to create the future we want. From what I know… your ancestors attacked us, we retaliated, the Uchiha did the same thing. Whoever struck first doesn’t matter to me, it’s how we’re going to fix it that makes the difference. If not for the Kumo, do it for the Uchiha, your brothers in defeat.” Reaching his hand out across the table he held it there, making eye contact with the chief. A hand shake that would secure at least this tribe from joining with the others.

“And if they attack our tribe again?” The chief looked at the bandages around the Uchiha wrist, not flinching still.

“Then I will come to your aide, as an Uchiha. You have my word.” His hand still out, unshaking he hoped that the chief would simply agree.

“Although I cannot guarantee anything, we don’t wish to be drawn into any unnecessary fighting, and we will not hesitate to call upon your favor Uchiha. But for now, we will attempt to stay out of any conflicts with your village.” Reaching across the table Gurren smiled wide at the chief’s decision. “Would you like to stay for dinner young Uchiha?”

Knowing full well this was only one tribe and that the skirmishes with the Mudfolk were far from over Gurren was confident that his single difference made with this meeting would have effects reaching further than this one chieften. Staying for a while longer to eat and to continue their discussion Gurren did all he could to cement his ideals of peace further in the chiefs mind.
