Special Characteristics


Each ninja is different in their own way, some inherit skills from their elders while others acquire a unique skill set aside from all other variables. From the endless strings of genetics to the disciplined training of a master, none of which can bestow a ninja with their personal unique abilities. These abilities also known as "Special Characteristics" are one of the fine lines which separates a ninja from the others in terms of skill. They range heavily on the individual and their talents, some may be physically stronger, others may have tremendous chakra, or even some deriving from a persons reputation. There are many types of special characteristics and it is important to discover which one you are most suitable for. However, certain characteristics require you to specialize and train in a certain field before you're eligible to meet the certain requirements to attain those characteristics. Such instances could be a special characteristic requiring you to specialize in taijutsu, which would imply that you're characters physically strong enough to train for that skill. Special characteristics fall under four classifications; Physical Based, Chakra Based, Mental Based, and Miscellaneous Based.

Physical Based
These are Special Characteristics centered around the physical body of the ninja. They revolve around heightening the bodies natural abilities to a incredible degree through vigorous training and skill. They are most beneficent to ninja who specialize in close quarters combat for it arguments their techniques and fighting ability. Thus, those who specialize in the arts of taijutsu or weaponry have a natural affinity for many physical based characteristics which allows them only to acquire such skills. Some characteristics that fall under this category include increase Speed, Strength and even One-Handed seals. The training regimen for physical based special characteristics include spending long hours training your muscles from weights, sparring, or whatever creative methods relative to your training.

Chakra Based
These are the Special Characteristics centered around the many aspects of a ninja's chakra. This is the most versatile category of special characteristics because each ninja's chakra is different, thus different skills are produced from them. Chakra based special characteristics are focused on transcending ones unique chakra abilities or type to a more powerful level, allowing them to execute more powerful techniques and much more. Nearly all of them require a ninja to specialize in the art of ninjutsu, for those who do typically have more advanced types of chakra such as elemental affinities and manipulation. Some characteristics that fall under this category include increasing the power of specific element, Sensory, Chakra Flow, and even allowing yourself to train an additional element and access a second kekkei genkai for more powerful ninja. The training regimen for chakra based special characteristics vary depending on what you're trying to train, but most of which require deep meditation, training in a specific element or area, or whatever methods you can create.

Mental Based
These are Special Characteristics centered around the power of the ninja's mind. They focus around improving a ninja's mental capacity and skill to a exceptional degree through innate skill and mental training. Unlike some of the other forms of special characteristics, these do not require certain specializations but they do require a ninja to possess a patient and steady mind. The brain is a very powerful tool and those who peruse characteristics in this category may have access to parts of their mind people would think impossible. Some characteristics that fall under this category include Lie Detection, Tracking, High IQ and Strategy. The training regiment for mental based special characteristics include spending long hours in mediation, training the mind through various games, or whatever creative methods you can think that trains the mind.

Social Based
Social based Special Characteristics allow for a ninja to have a dynamic personality in how they may react in a social environment. This can add certain elements of conversation and activity between different kinds of people. Social SCs are allotted fewer slots than Combat SCs, though users may possess more than the allotted slots of Social SCs if they are willing to sacrifice a Combat SC slot for it.

Affliction Based
Afflictions are a system both a part of and completely opposite to Special Characteristics. They will provide no benefit to your character, or at least none that outweigh the severely detrimental effects. Afflictions are a disease, and illness, anything one can think of, with negative effects on one's health. Perhaps one gets memories from a clone that are too real, and are stricken with the memory of their own death. Perhaps they suffer some terminal disease, and will not live past 30. Maybe they're just color blind. Whatever the case, one can only reasonably have a certain number of afflictions before being unfit for a shinobi career. Exceptions will be dealt with on a case by case basis. Users will also not be allowed to start with an affliction of a higher rank than their character, unless granted Admin approval.

There are currently no Open Afflictions, as it is entirely to the user's discretion if they desire one; users are not by any measure required to have an Affliction. They are entirely optional, and as such, it is left to the user to design their own unique debilitating weakness to inflict on their character.

Special Characteristic Rules
Although there may be a temptation to attain the numerous special characteristics that spark your interest, there is unfortunately a maximum amount of special characteristics you're able to possess depending on your ranking. These are to separate a simple ninja from a god, and keep a fair balance between all ranks and characters. If you wish to change a special characteristic you can simply ask a mod to remove it which leaves you a empty slot to train for another.

Important Note: In regards to your Starting SC's, all of them must be C Rank, regardless of your ninja ranking. In order to rank up your SC's accordingly, they must be trained. ie: A Jonin may start with speed as a special characteristic, but only at the C-rank level, but they can train it up to A-rank with training since they are Jonin.

[b]Restrictions:[/b] Amongst the Speed, Endurance, Strength, and Acrobatics SCs, members may only possess two of them, unless they possess both Weaponry and Taijutsu as their Primary and Secondary Specialties. If one possess Weaponry or Taijutsu as a Primary specialty, with one other specialty, and acquire Weaponry or Taijutsu as a Sub-Specialty, they may possess up to any three of them.
[b]Description:[/b] After training relentlessly in cardiovascular and high speed movement, shinobi are able to greatly increase their overall stamina and movement speed. Those talented with this speed are capable of running with speed half a man greater than their peers and even last a bit longer during extraneous activities without becoming exhausted. This boost in speed is usually enough to quickly catch escaping targets or outrun most regular citizens.

[b]Description:[/b] Further training in high speed movement has given the shinobi valiant speed that can perform olympic sprinters with no effort. By now, the ninja can run twice as fast as their untalented peers, and can usually run for miles on end without breaking a sweat.

[b]Name:[/b] [Tier III] Flash Speed

[b]Type:[/b] Physical
[b]Prerequisites:[/b] Character must have the “Advanced Speed” Special Characteristic.
[b]Training:[/b] A 1600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Restrictions:[/b] The Character must have either Taijutsu or Weaponry as one of their specialties.
[b]Description:[/b] Years of training one’s speed has lead them to the next evolutionary step in their ability. The shinobi can now go up to thrice as fast compared to others of equal rank. On top of this large speed boost, those with this speed can essentially outrun cheetahs and even appear as a swift blur to unsuspecting bystanders who happen to notice the character. Unfortunately, the high speed training does very little in further improving one’s already great stamina.

[b]Prerequisites:[/b] Character must have the “Flash Speed” Special Characteristic.
[b]Training:[/b] A 2000 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Restrictions:[/b] The Character must have either Taijutsu or Weaponry as one of their specialties. Character may not have the “Herculean Strength”, “Titan Endurance”, or "Elite Acrobatics" special characteristics.
[b]Description:[/b] Over a decade or two of constant adapting and training in one’s physical attributes has finally lead them down the path of speed. Having chosen speed as their dominant ability, shinobi with such talent are able to move five times faster than the average ninja of equal rank. Their speed is so great in fact, that should they hit their top speed, they can essentially become nothing more than a phased blur from the high-speed movement. The movement is so fast, that little beyond the Sharingan or exceptionally keen perceptive abilities can spot them.
[b]Trade Off:[/b] While users of this characteristic are indeed fast, such speed comes at a price; when hitting their top speed, they can only move in straight lines, and require significant room to come to a full stop. Reckless users may find themselves plastered into a wall more often than not. Furthermore, their speed is so great, that users have just as much difficulty as their foes in actually seeing their movement. As such, users generally find it necessary to slow down when outright attacking, to ascertain their attack is actually heading towards the right target.

[b]Description:[/b] Countless hours, days, weeks and even months of lifting weights, muscle stretching, exercise and pure raw-power training has built the shinobi’s strength to something comparable to an animal. These ninja are so talented in strength, they can lift objects of equal weight to the themselves, and strike with the ferocity of one and half of their peers. This boost is usually enough to cause serious damage to an enemy with a mere punch or kick; sometimes even fracturing or breaking a bone if struck in the right spot.

[b]Name:[/b] [Tier II]Immense Strength

[b]Type:[/b] Physical
[b]Prerequisites:[/b] Character must have the “Improved Strength” Special Characteristic.
[b]Training:[/b] A 1200 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Restrictions:[/b] The Character must have either Taijutsu or Weaponry as one of their specialties.
[b]Description:[/b] Further training in the art of killing and brute force has lead the ninja down a road full of power. They can now lift objects up to two times heavier than they are, and their physical strength has also improved to about twice as great compared to ninja of equal rank. By now the shinobi can punch a log in half, and even crack stone with their bare hands. The increase in strength has also blessed them with the ability to jump significantly higher than their peers, though this not exactly a useful benefit.

[b]Name:[/b] [Tier III] Ferocious Strength
[b]Rank:[/b] A
[b]Type:[/b] Physical
[b]Prerequisites:[/b] Character must have the “Immense Strength” Special Characteristic.
[b]Training:[/b] A 1600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Restrictions:[/b] The Character must have either Taijutsu or Weaponry as one of their specialties.
[b]Description:[/b] By now, the shinobi has trained more than vigorously in strength; spending several long years in this incredibly tasking feat. Very few have ever passed this point, and for good reasons. With thrice the physical strength of ninja equal in rank, those with this talent in strength have been known the shatter rocks with a mere punch, and destroy walls without even expending a drop of chakra. The strength is so great, weaponry users can cut iron and steel in half with enough focus; and most are able to lift upwards of five times more than they weigh.

[b]Name:[/b] [Tier IV] Herculean Strength

[b]Type:[/b] Physical
[b]Prerequisites:[/b] Character must have “Ferocious Strength” Special Characteristic.
[b]Training:[/b] A 2000 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Restrictions:[/b] The Character must have either Taijutsu or Weaponry as one of their specialties. Character may not have the “Lightning Speed”, "Titan Endurance", or “Elite Evasion” special characteristics.
[b]Description:[/b] Decades of physical training have lead the shinobi down the fortunate path of destruction. With strength that is said to rival Gods, those with this talent can wrap metal with their bare hands and even punch a hole through sheets of steel. Arbitrary defenses such as shields become useless to someone with twice the strength than the average shinobi of their rank, and by now they can lift objects ten times heavier than them; boulders becoming nothing but a training mechanism at this point.
[b]Trade-Off[/b]: While those of such indomitable strength may be able to rend steel with their bare hands, their bare hands are still mere flesh and bone. As such, users as easily capable of hurting themselves if they make full use of their strength. Broken bones, torn muscles, are all equally likely.

[b]Description:[/b] Conditioning ones body in the art of pain has allowed for the ninja to have a heightened physical endurance. These ninja are so talented in dealing with pain that they seem to only feel a quarter of the pain that their peers would. This boost is usually enough to prevent serious damage to the person from a mere punch or kick; sometimes even preventing fracturing or breaking of bones.

[b]Name:[/b] [Tier II] Immense Endurance

[b]Description:[/b] Further training in the discipline of dealing with injury has allowed for the shinobi  The possessor of this talent has an increased endurance of double that of their peers which makes them considerably tougher. They are near immune to the sensation of pain which allows them to fight under harsh circumstances with normal efficiency.

[b]Name:[/b] [Tier III] Ferocious Endurance
[b]Rank:[/b] A
[b]Type:[/b] Physical
[b]Prerequisites:[/b] Character must have the “Immense Endurance”” Special Characteristic.
[b]Training:[/b] A 1600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Restrictions:[/b] The Character must have either Taijutsu or Weaponry as one of their specialties.
[b]Description:[/b] The second last level in the art of endurance, having being only accessible to those who have undergone intensive training in increasing their raw power. The possessor of this talent has an increased strength of thrice that of their peers which makes them remarkably tougher and harder to down. At this stage their endurance has transcended so high that they are now immune to the sensation of pain, even at a point where others would have passed out.

[b]Name:[/b] [Tier IV] Titan Endurance

[b]Prerequisites:[/b] Character must have “Ferocious Endurance” Special Characteristic.
[b]Training:[/b] A 2000 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Restrictions:[/b] The Character must have either Taijutsu or Weaponry as one of their specialties. Character may not have the “Lightning Speed”, "Herculean Strength, or “Elite Evasion” special characteristics.
[b]Description:[/b] The last level in the art of endurance, having being only accessible to those who have undergone decades of training in the face of pain, has led the shinobi to have endurance like that of a titan. The possessor of this talent has a phenomenal pain tolerance, amounting to five times that of their peers which makes them supremely tough to keep down. At this stage, their endurance boasts that of superhuman levels with shinobi able to withstand life-threatening injury for a heightened amount of time that other shinobi would be dead in their tracks.
[b]Trade Off:[/b] While users of this characteristic are exceptionally durable, it comes at the price that they are never fully aware of just how much damage they have taken. Their leg bones may be pulverized to dust, and they would not notice until the leg stopped worked, or the bone jutted out. It is not unheard of for such people to drop dead on their feet, unaware of their own organs failing them.
Acrobatics

If one possess Weaponry or Taijutsu as a Primary specialty, with one other specialty, and acquire Weaponry or Taijutsu as a Sub-Specialty, they may possess up to any three of them.
[b]Description:[/b] The ninja trains their ability in more advanced evasive maneuvers which serves the purpose of avoiding enemy attacks. The survivability of the ninja increases as they are now capable of executing quicker flips and twists than their peers.

[b]Name:[/b] [Tier II] Enhanced Acrobatics

[b]Prerequisites:[/b] Character must have the “Improved Acrobatics” Special Characteristic.
[b]Training:[/b] A 1200 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Restrictions:[/b] The Character must have either Taijutsu, Weaponry, or Medical as one of their specialties.
[b]Description:[/b] Through further training the ninja has become even more proficient in the arts of aerialism to the point that they are now more flexible than their peers. They are able to not only do incredible feats using aerial manoeuvres such as flips and corkscrews, but they can also bend and rotate their bodies in ways their peers wouldn’t be able to do.

[b]Name:[/b] [Tier III] Swift Acrobatics
[b]Rank:[/b] A
[b]Type:[/b] Physical
[b]Prerequisites:[/b] Character must have the “Enhanced Acrobatics” Special Characteristic.
[b]Training:[/b] A 1600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Restrictions:[/b] The Character must have either Taijutsu, Weaponry, or Medical as one of their specialties.
[b]Description:[/b] By further training their proficiency in aerial manoeuvring  as well as their flexibility a swift acrobat can not only perform various aerial manoeuvres on command but they can also jump to greater heights as well as safely fall greater distances.

[b]Name:[/b] [Tier IV] Elite Acrobatics
[b]Rank:[/b] S
[b]Type:[/b] Physical
[b]Prerequisites:[/b] Character must have “Swift Acrobatics” Special Characteristic.
[b]Training:[/b] A 2000 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Restrictions:[/b] The Character must have either Taijutsu, Weaponry, or Medical as one of their specialties. Character may not have the "Lightning Speed", “Titan Endurance”, or “Herculean Strength” Special characteristics.
[b]Description:[/b] An Elite Acrobat has mastered the art of aerialism to the point that they can contort their bodies in impossible manners such that they could literally bend over backwards to make a required manoeuvre they can jump from the ground to a high rooftop and survive a fall off a cliff through their skill in acrobatics. It goes without saying that it is nearly impossible to catch an Elite Acrobat off balance due to their ability to move their body in such ways.
[b]Trade Off:[/b] While users of this characteristic are indeed extremely flexible, their bones are still quite rigid. Too frequent and too extreme of a dodge can lead to them breaking their own bones contorting themselves around an attack, and thus caution must be taken.
Stealth

[b]Training Requirements:[/b] A 600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Restriction:[/b] -
[b]Description:[/b] A skill gained by ninja who have begun to specialize in the art of stealth. The ninja becomes very light and quick on their feet. Their movements no longer create sound and they now gain a natural skill for hiding and camouflage.

[b]Name:[/b] Black Ops Stealth
[b]Rank:[/b] A
[b]Type:[/b] Physical
[b]Prerequisites:[/b] Must have Advanced Stealth.
[b]Training Requirements:[/b] A 1600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Restriction:[/b] -
[b]Description:[/b] A characteristic bestowed upon those elite ninja whose stealth became even deadlier through training and experience. The ninja now has a Black Ops member's stealth which allows them to move within the shadows like a phantom and completely blend in with darkness, rendering them invisible. Along with being able to create no sound, the ninja is now able to suppress their chakra to a near undetectable level, rendering them the perfect assassins. Those with this characteristic can easily eliminate shinobi from the shadows, as well as infiltrate buildings with increased ease.

[b]Training Requirements:[/b] A 600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Restrictions:[/b] -
[b]Description:[/b] This skill is trained by those who have more extensive knowledge of toxicology such as medical ninja or those who specialize in puppets. Being trained in the art of utilizing poison in either medication of assassination, a ninja uses that knowledge to heighten their own immune system if ever faced with a poison or pathogen. Those with this characteristic are now immune to B-Ranked poisons.

[b]Type:[/b] Physical
[b]Physical Requirements:[/b] Must have Minor Poison Immunity
[b]Training Requirements:[/b] A 1600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Restrictions:[/b] -
[b]Description:[/b] With further experimentation with various poison the user's trains their immune system to a more advanced degree. By applying tolerable amounts of poison into their system daily, they are now immune to stronger levels of poison than before. Those with this characteristic are now immune to A-Ranked enemy poisons, and completely immune to any poisons they personally possess.
Hand Seals and Movement

[b]Description:[/b] the ninja discovers a unique talent which allows them to mix chakra by performing seals with only one hand. With an ability such as this the ninja can fight while also performing jutsu, delivering surprise attacks to their enemies. Since those who can perform one-handed seals are naturally good at what their talents, they are even capable of performing hand seals behind themselves, leaving the enemy oblivious to the ninja's next attack.

[b]Prerequisites:[/b] The Character must possess One-Handed Seals.
[b]Training:[/b] A 1200 word training is required to gain this special characteristic.

[b]Description:[/b] A skillful and convenient characteristic that is learned to those who have practiced in the art of hand speed movement in nearly all forms. There are many uses for this characteristic as it can enhance nearly all forms of specializations. It is essentially the practice of moving and manipulating your hands with expert efficiency to the point where they become a blur. With this special characteristic a ninja can perform any number of hand seals within seconds or instantly depending on the amount of seals necessary. This allows them to execute techniques faster than the opponent can perceive, providing no Perception-based Special Characteristics are present.

[b]Physical Requirements: [/b]Blurred Hand Movements
[b]Training Requirements: [/b]A 1600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
[b]Description:[/b] The ultimate expression of efficiency creating speed in jutsu use, this special characteristic eliminates the need for the shinobi to speak the name of, or perform any hand seals for, any technique which would normally require such provide the technique is D-rank or lower and within their specialty or E-rank if it is not their specialty. They can pin-point any individual within their sensory limit even if they are surrounded in a crowd and even locate other sensor ninja. A sensor can determine a person's location and chakra capacity when in a locating position.

The user can now more effortlessly manipulate the clan's secret element/power even to extent of generating an innate resistance to attacks of the same nature allowing them absorb or nullify such attacks that are of lower rank than the user, although they're still capable of feeling great pain when doing so.

This skill is handy when faced with Genjutsu, as it gives the user the capacity to quickly identify they are in an illusion with very minimal clues. However although they can figure out the Genjutsu they must rely on other methods of breaking the spell. The ninja also becomes extremely perceptive and observant when it comes to people, being able to pick out mood changes or better understand character. In addition, this skill becomes useful in combat, where the Ninja grows to understand the patterns, habits and the 'rhythm' of the opponent over periods of time. There is no limitation for who can be tracked, as if given enough clues and leads, the ninja can even track a person across the globe.

They can essentially survive in any environment and always find routes to their destination.

They can hustle Ryo quicker than one could imagine and can hold their own in times of struggle. Ninja with street smarts tend to have a heightened sense of intuition, honor, and fear in their respective communities.

[b]Description:[/b] A rare characteristic that one develops which allows them to understand and communicate with animals. Verbal exchange is common amongst those with this ability as the user will literally alter their voice to mimic the animal their speaking to as a way of communicating. More advanced people are even capable of feeling the emotions and pain of animals as well, although that requires physical contact. Animal Speaking is a very useful skill because they can manipulate animals to accomplish tasks, such as acting as scouts or gathering information they have already witnessed. Animals that serve as familiars to specific clans or people such as Kakichu Bugs, Inuzuaka dogs or summons, cannot be controlled due to their loyalty to their owners.

When out in the field the cooking ninja can use their surroundings to make food for their teammates or themselves. Because of their skill Cooking Nin tend to work at restaurants in the villages which gives them a steady income of Ryo and reputation amongst their villagers, especially Akimichi.
