So here's what this thread is gonna be all about; Pokemon Nuzlocke. The basic rules of Nuzlocke are simple;
You can only catch one Pokemon per area
Once a Pokemon faints, you either box or release it, treating it as "dead."
Now, the purpose of this thread you might ask? Go out there. Engage your nuzlocke challenges. And then make a story of them. Give your pokemon style, personality, and when they meet their fateful end, tell the tale of it here. I'll start.
Code:
[b]Pokemon[/b]: [b]Level and Location Met[/b]: [b]Level and Location Died[/b]: [b]Opponent/Finishing Move[/b]: [b]Nature/Trait[/b]: [b]Description[/b]:
If a species has already been caught, it cannot be caught again
Items such as Antidote may be used, but pokemon may not be Revived.
Once a pokemon faints, it is boxed in the "Graveyard."
Current Team
Spoiler:
Pokemon: Jess the Infernape (Lvl 60) Nature/Trait: Sassy/Lost in Thought Level/Location Met: Lvl 5/Route 201 Description: A girl, which is quite a surprise for a starter pokemon, given the gender ratio. Makes up for her boyish looks with more sass than any man can handle. She's more than well built to knock in some heads, but she's a thinker at heart. The big sister of the team, always ready to kid around and have fun, and man-handle anyone who tries to harm her buddies.
Pokemon: Stanley the Staraptor (Lvl 60) Nature/Trait: Timid/Alert to Sounds Level/Location Met: Lvl 4/Route 202 Description: One of the first, second only to Barney, met him as a twitchy little Starly, terrified of his own heartbeat. Now he's this big old Staraptor, putting the fear of Arceus in his opponents with a glance. Fierce looks aside, he still a terrified, scared little guy inside. Being around Jess has helped a lot though, her sass and attitude helping to bring him out of his shell. And whenever things got too tough, he always has Rose to help calm his nerves.
Pokemon: Emile the Umbreon (Lvl 52) Nature/Trait: Relaxed/Good Endurance Level/Location Met: Lvl 20/Hearthome City Description: Cool, relaxed, solid as a rock, the impeccable Emile, ladies and gents. He's not as fast as Stanley, can't hit as hard as Jess, but unless you're packing a Super Effective, he'll take all you got and laugh in your face once the smoke clears. He's an absolute tank, and the coolest of cats. He likes moonlit walks on the beach and can handle anything you might throw at him, ladies. To further add to his street cred, you can thank him for single-handedly halting Giratina in its tracks.
Pokemon: Rose the Roserade (Lvl 60) Nature/Trait: Calm, Strongly defiant Level/Location Met: Lvl 4/Route 204 Description: In light of tragedy, it brings warmth to my hear to welcome back the mother of the team, Rose. When I found that Shiny stone, I just couldn't resist seeing if maybe there was a chance (Read as: Made an exception in my rules for postmortem evolution. Yes, I'm a sucker). Back and better than ever, this grassy beauty is determined to stick with her team all the way through this time.
Pokemon: Lacy the Luxray (Lvl 60) Level and Location Met: Lvl 40, Route 222 Nature/Trait: Adamant, thoroughly cunning. Description: When I first met Lacy, I didn't think much of it at first. Now that she's on the team, she's been a shocking revelation. Pound for pound, not a single other member on the team can match her for raw power. With a burning stare and a sharp mind, few are willing to even TRY. A Queen of the pridelands, Lacy is sure to haunt the nightmares of many a water-type.
Pokemon: Gloria the Golduck (Lvl 39) Nature/Trait: Lonely, Good Endurance Level/Location Met: Lvl 39/Sendoff Spring Description: A quiet, hardy gal, Gloria was glad to join the team, relishing the company. It's left her a bit subdued, however, knowing why she's on the team, and knowing the shoes she has to fill. That said, she has a level head and good potential... And an Ice Beam for the next cocky bird that fancies themself "brave."
Travel Member Pokemon: Ricky the Machop (Lvl 15) Nature/Trait: Rash, scatters things Level/Location Met: Lvl 15/Route 211 Description: A simple, strong little tyke, Ricky knows he's not in it for the fight. Simply, he can learn the most HM moves, so he helps the gang get through the paths before him. All said and done, he doesn't mind being a "roadie."
The Casualties
Spoiler:
Pokemon: Barney the Bidoof Level and Location Met: Lvl 3, Route 201 Level and Location Died: Lvl 14, Valley Windworks Opponent/Finishing Move: Shellos/Water Pulse Nature/Trait: Modest/Finicky Description: The first I ever caught outside my starter. Bit of goofball, always flip-floping between trying to get attention and trying to keep under the radar. Defense curl, rollout, a good combo. Shellos hit him with a Mud Bomb, threw off his accuracy, and he missed. Before he could recover, it took him out with a Water Pulse. He only had one more level till evolution. Rest in piece, Barney.
Pokemon: Lilly the Geodude Level and Location Met: Lvl 7, Oreburgh Mine Level and Location Died: Lvl 7, Eterna Forest Opponent/Finishing Move: Abra/Hidden Power Nature/Trait: Adamant/Thrasher Description: Lilly was a fighter through and through, tough and unyielding as the stone she was made of. It was a trainer battle, they sent out an Abra, I figured it'd be easy exp for Lilly. Never occurred to me an Abra actually owned by a trainer might know more than Teleport. It used Hidden Power. To rub salt in the wound, that particular Abra's Hidden Power had a typing Super Effective against Rock/Ground. Lilly died because I was cocky. Rest in peace, Lilly.
Pokemon: Marvin the Magikarp Level and Location Met: Lvl 5, Twin Leaf Level and Location Died: Lvl 15, Eterna City Team Galactic Building Opponent/Finishing Move: Croagunk/Pursuit Nature/Trait: Timid/Quick Tempered Description: Marvin was about as timid as you'd expect a Magikarp, bottom of the food chain, to be. But he was angry, had a short fuse and a lot of rage built up. He would have been a perfect Gyarados. I was trying to get him there, and with only 5 more levels, he was close. Send him out, switch in for Jess or Stan, easy exp. Except, his opponent used Pursuit. Caught him as he was going back to his ball. 80 base power, a poor little Magikarp had no hope. Rest in peace, Marvin.
Pokemon: Grace the Kirlia Level and Location Met: Lvl 17, Route 208 Level and Location Died: Level 27, Hearthome Gym Opponent/Finishing Move: Mismagius/Shadow Ball Nature/Trait: Modest/Sturdy Description: Pretty as a picture, tough as nails, but never one to boast. She would have been a beautiful Gardevoir. Never had a chance to find out. With Jess, my Infernape and main hitter, having to sit back against Ghost types, she was gonna be my ace in the hole. She had more power... but not enough speed. The Mismagius was too quick on the draw. Rest in peace, Grace.
[Pokemon: Corkie the Floatzel Level and Location Met: Level 23, Route 213 Level and Location Died: Level 60, Victory Road Opponent/Finishing Move: Staraptor/Brave Bird Nature/Trait: Timid, somewhat of a clown. Description: Corkie was a shy one, but she got on well with the team. So much potential. She was even faster than Stanely. It... It wasn't fair. She'd come so far... Her first Double Battle, teamed up with Jess. Fastest in the whole battle, dealing good damage... And she's wiped out in a single Critical Hit. No drama, just... sudden and final. Rest in peace, Corkie.
Former Members/Pokemon of Note
Spoiler:
Pokemon: Holly the Lopunny (Lvl 24) Nature/Trait: Rash, capable of taking hits. Level/Location Met: Lvl 11/Eterna Forest Description: Former cheerleaderand "roadie" for the gang, she knew it was getting close to calling it quits as Rocky was called out more and more to do some rock climbing. She's a little sad about it, but ultimately, always knew she wasn't in it to fight; ultimately, she's weclomed herself to making sure the guys have a place to call home, when all is said and done.
Pokemon: Peach the Pachirisu (Lvl 50) Nature/Trait: Naive, likes to relax Level/Location Met: Lvl9/Valley Windworks Description: The sweet child of the team, Peach looked up to the entire team like a family, and enjoyed the same show from them in turn. Unfortunately, as time went on, the battles got harder and harder for Peach to pull through, even with clear type and level advantages. It was with no small amount of sorrow that she retired from the team; it was simply too dangerous for her to go on. The group didn't begrudge her for it, wholeheartedly agreeing. Parting amicably, Peach retired from battle... And ended up striking an odd relationship with Lord Tennyson.
Pokemon: L. Tennyson the Rhyhorn (Lvl 43) Nature/Trait: Brave, good endurance. Level/Location Met: Lvl 21/Route 214 Description: Is it odd for an electric type and a ground type to fall for each other? Very, but Tennyson is one of a kind. A stout, sturdy pokemon, in body and mind, Tennyson was always a thought of as a backup in case the unthinkable happened. Such ideas have been shelved however, with Peach's growing interest. A gentleman through and through, it's not hard to see how the romance sparked up.

Let's go more hardcore. RULE #1: FAINTED POKEMON ARE DEAD When a Pokemon faints, it must be released forever (or boxed permanently). It is considered to be dead.
RULE #2: ONLY CATCH THE 1ST ELIGIBLE POKEMON IN AN AREA You can catch or obtain only the first eligible obtainable Pokemon you encounter in any route or area, with exceptions being made based on the Pokemon's gender. Fail to catch it and you get nothing for the area. • Genderless Pokemon cannot be caught. Ever. • If you have 1, 3, or 5 Pokemon in your party, you ignore any Pokemon encounters whose gender you have an uneven number of, e.g. if you have just one male Pokemon and two female Pokemon, you cannot catch any more female Pokemon until the count is even again. If you have an even number of each gender, this does not apply. • "Dupes Clause" is recommended, to add to the uniqueness of each Pokemon. This means you do not count any encounter against any Pokemon whose species you have already caught, which is usually determined by the Poke Ball symbol by their HP bar.
RULE #3: ALL POKEMON MUST BE NICKNAMED This is to increase the bond between you and your Pokemon. They're not just randoms; they're your friends. Treat them accordingly.
RULE #4: YOUR POKEMON ARE "PARTNERED" WITH EACH OTHER AND FIGHT IN PAIRS • Only one male and one female can form a pair, and once they do, it lasts until one dies or is released. • Each Pokemon on your team can battle only alongside its partner, if it has one. Switching Pokemon out in battle is allowed, but ONLY for the Pokemon's partner. • If a Pokemon dies in battle, its partner must avenge the fallen Pokemon or die along with them; switching to any other Pokemon is forbidden, regardless of circumstance. (In the case of Double or Triple Battles, you may have to make exceptions. Do what feels right.) • If a Pokemon's partner dies, it can gain a new one that doesn't already have a partner (either from a PC box or a wild Pokemon).
RULE #5: YOU CANNOT DEPOSIT POKEMON TO YOUR PC • You must release Pokemon or have them die in battle if you want to withdraw anything in your PC. • You can freely release your Pokemon (up to you if it counts as a "death" or not), but you will probably feel like a jerk for doing it. • If you absolutely require HM moves to get through the game, you may temporarily break this rule and deposit a pair of Pokemon in the PC for one or two HM Pokemon; however, they cannot fight or do anything other than use HM moves outside of battle, and should be removed as soon as one of your main Pokemon can use the required HM move.

The point is that it creates a greater experience and your bonds with the pokemon that you keep are much deeper.
That Bidoof you normally would hate becomes your best and most trusted friend.

Yall are missing the point; which is to say, bonding with your pokemon is the entire point of Nuzlocke. How much closer would your bonds be, how much more precious would you hold your pokemon, if you knew it was legitimately possible for them to die?

You two are missing the point, why force someone through the pain of losing something they have bonded with?

We're not forcing anyone we're offering a different way to play a game.

What meaning does a bond have if you can't lose it? Further, if you treasure those bonds, then protect them. The point of a Nuzlocke challenge is to make the trainer go into every fight, not asking "How can I win," but "How can I keep everyone alive?"

Mors forced it by saying were missing the point. I for one am rather sick of seeing bonds being severed due to death and think that it would corrupt such a kind hearted game. Go play FF tactics on the PS1 or Fire Emblem yo.

I know what the point is; I just don't want to do it because I take my bonds with things very seriously, and would likely refuse to play the games again if the fainting=death situation suddenly became the norm. I pretty much never restart my games and I don't even like moving on to a new game unless I can have my old team from the oldest version that I own. I've transferred teams across various games for that reason. I'll stop there because I tend to get emotional over things like this (make fun of me all you want) and obviously that sort of input would ruin the point of this thread. :U

But for all her effort, for however valiantly she fought through Flint... Cynthia's Garchomp was simply too strong, too fast. I'm sorry our time was so short. Rest in peace, Gloria.
Pokemon: Rose the Roserade Level and Location Met: Lvl 4, Route 204 Level and Location Died: Lvl 60, Pokemon League Opponent/Finishing Move: Milotic/Mirror Coat Nature/Trait: Calm, Strongly defiant Description: It... Is entirely too cruel, to lose the same team mate, the same family member, twice. It's a biting irony that her own power would be used against her to end her life a second time. She... She saw us through to the end. She kept us going. And now she's gone again, and this time, there's no coming back. I'm so sorry Rose. Rest in peace.
And that's it for this Nuzlocke, folks. Now get out there and start your own.
