*This is a hell of a mission.* Makoto kept telling himself all kinds of motivating things. Just to keep his mind strong and attentive about the new situation he was in.He found himself running within the forests of the Fire Country, escorting a package to the Hot springs country just outside the border. The shinobi council of Konohagakure had taken Makoto from his team to partner with a complete stranger. This fellow genin and him were assigned a priority B-Ranked mission. They were given a bronze enforced case that had a decent enough weight to cause some burdening. This package was to be delivered to a lord in the Hot Springs Country in the same condition it left the village. Neither of them were informed of what it contained, all they were told was that it was very important, and that it needed to be in the lord's hands as soon as possible. That's all Makoto needed to hear. It was quite an honor to be given such an important mission. So much activity has been going on within the continents. After the knowledge of Lord Hokage and the Raikage dead. Everyone is in overdrive. The thoughts of war were on everyone's mind, and none the tension between the countries were getting any better. So things had to get done. Many of the village ninja, including Kimiko and Kiyomi, were out on missions. Makoto was separated to deal with this mission with another genin. A boy his age named Shiromaru, of the Akimichi Clan. "Just gonna say I hope the best, Akimichi Shiromaru. I am capable with my ninjutsu and weapon arts. I'm sure we'll get there safely..."
Together, they were both on their way towards the border to the Hot Springs Country, moving at a quick, but steady pace. Makoto stayed ahead of Shiromaru while he held the package. His bulky and stout build made him better off holding it. Makoto, out of a quick look, was not the toughest looking teenager. His weapons did make him intimidating though. He brought his best gear. His sword and daggers on his back, his kanabo at his left side, his machete to his right, and just over his backside was his large pouch equipped for combat. His fluent movements in his kimono kept him nimble and agile. The forests all over were almost repetitive at times. But by the estimations he made on the map. They shouldn't be too far off from crossing the border. This mission was much more intense than he has ever been a part of. Just the two of them responsible for this large package. There was no security of a team leader or the familiarity of the environment around them. It was quite scary at first. All the same, Makoto felt confident they would complete this mission. The Council would not have placed Makoto in a position beyond his abilities, in which he was very confident in. These were the situations Kimiko had spoken of during their training sessions. To not apply what he learned would likely hinder their chance of completing this mission. No matter the objective, one must apply their knowledge as efficient as possible. There was no way he would fail his sensei. Confidence was strong in him. Though he wasn't sure his partner was thinking the same thing.
Akimichi, Shiromaru. The powerful Akimichi Clan was reknowned in the village. Being a part of the village since its beginnings. The Akimichi Clan have always excelled in Physical combat. Their kekkei genkai allows them to manipulate the size and shape of their body to many different forms. Their usual physical condition didn't seem to be the best of shape. Most of them round and more weighted than the average shinobi. The village knew better than to think less of them because of their weight. They have been with the village for most of it's life and has always kept their honor to Konoha. Makoto didn't know Shiromaru as a friend, but his village band marked him as ally. They were both in this together, so they had to get along as best as possible. Makoto felt there would be little to no problem with that. Makoto kept his eyes searching all around them. At times he would move around Shiromaru to see the three , six, and nine o'clock. the package had the chance of making a blindside, depending on how he held it. With Makoto's speed and agility, he was able to move almost like a butterfly around Shiromaru. He seemed like a good fellow. Makoto gave a note of concern, as a means to allow him comfort between them. "Doing okay with that package?... We'll be crossing the border soon. Hope you're ready, we'll get this done well. " Makoto wanted to hear his level of confidence. Regret right now was too late to have.

| Fear, pride, uncertainty, elation. So many emotions mixing and spinning inside him made Shiromaru nearly sick to his stomach. So much had happened so fast he was still trying to process everything. It all started with the deaths of both the Hokage and the Cloud's Raikage. When word reached Konoha of this, everything changed. The peaceful times they once knew were suddenly on the verge of collapse. At first the adults tried to hide it, to protect the young. But word spreads fast on whispers and winds. Soon the whole village knew and the higher ups were quick to respond. The newly instated Hokage, Lord Senju, Morijin, reformed the genin squads into what he called the "Guardians of the Flame". While it was created with the intention of boosting morale in these dark times, unfortunately for Shiro, he couldn't feel more nervous. He understood that, due to current circumstances they could not entrust more shinobi on this mission, but to assign two genin, especially one as inexperienced as himself, with a B rank mission... He was unfamiliar with his companion, one Neroku, Makoto. Though they were similar in age even he could see the difference in their skill levels at a glance. Makoto carried himself with a much stronger stride and was far more aware of their surroundings, constantly watching all angles he could reasonably see.
They had not spoken much since their introductions during their briefing. In fact, since they left the trip had been painfully silent. Granted too much talk would distract them from possible threats, but this silence was almost as bad as the pressure the mission was already inflicting.
"Just gonna say I hope the best, Akimichi Shiromaru. I am capable with my ninjutsu and weapon arts. I'm sure we'll get there safely..."
Makoto suddenly breaking the silence took Shiro off guard, looking to Makoto for a couple seconds before replying "Oh.. uh right. That's good to hear." He sounded like a stuttering idiot, but didn't say anything further. Instead turning his attention to the objective of this mission, the strange bronze box they were to deliver to the Hot Springs Country. The box itself had surprising weight to it for it's size, but not enough to encumber him in any significant manner. If there was one thing Shiro was confident of, it was his strength. The box itself was hidden within his shoulder bag, buried under a mountain of snacks. Though he was told not to look into the contents of the box, the thought still lingered in the back of his mind, a morbid curiosity he could not purge with any amount of effort. Merely surpress and try to forget. What could be in such a small package yet be worth so much? And what kind of trouble could this bring? And what was the true price if they were to fail?
Thankfully, Makoto once again broke the silence and his straying thoughts. "Doing okay with that package?... We'll be crossing the border soon. Hope you're ready, we'll get this done well.". Upon hearing his words, he noted the concern in Makoto's voice, he was worried for Shiro because he had to rely upon him. Two complete strangers bounded together only by duty and home, if one were not to pick up the slack then both would fail. Right now, he was that weak link, so he sighed, closed his eyes and breathed in deeply. This job, this lifestyle, this was all his choice. He chose to follow in his brother's footsteps, to serve his village to his utmost until death. If Kuromaru could see him now, he would most certainly be ashamed of his younger brother. Seeing his face, the faces of his family, and his village in his mind's eye, Shiromaru took another deep breath and tightened his brother's reforged headband. Opening his eyes to the world once more, he looked to Makoto "Yeah, sorry bout earlier. Don't worry about the package. I'll keep it safe." |

| 'Intercept the package. Leave it intact. Uses whatever means or you deem necessary.'Those had been Gouka's orders before he'd been sent out on his first KYOBU mission, and speaking as a pragmatist, he intended to follow them to the letter; whatever means were necessary. Times had been rough in the village lately, with a war looming on the horizon, a Raikage buried in the ground before his predecessor's seat had even gotten cold, and another installed in his place before his corpse had even grown cold. Under such conditions, Kumogakure no Sato was not a place for softness... Not that it'd ever been, really. Given the mission parameters, and the team sent into it, Gouka had little doubt that "soft" would not be an issue in regards to relieving Konoha of its mysterious package. On the one hand, there was himself; Takeshi Gouka. Solid 5'11", slender build, speed orientated, near black hair and eyes as blue as ocean trenches; not that his eyes would have been visible. Currently, he sported his KYOBU mask, a curious, out-of-place thing compared to the animal motifs KYOBU generally sported; his was more plan, the only ornamentation being the jagged purple lightning bolt across one eye and a thin, red-lined slit across his mouth. Fittingly, the mask had been handed to him along with the call sign Jestre, the alias under which he'd been introduced to his partner for the mission, though he'd already met her before. Chosuro Takado, though she only answered to Kageru. He'd met the strange, pale-faced and sharp-toothed woman before, in a spar that had ended badly for Gouka. However, if she recognized him beyond his mask, she hadn't shown it, at least in-so-far as Gouka could tell she expressed any emotion at all. After the mission briefing, Gouka had taken point, setting as fast a pace as he could manage to the border between the Land of Fire and the Land of Hot Springs; specifically, to one of the very few roads leading directly from Konoha to Hot Springs. It was the most likely place in which any Konoha operative would cross. Hopefully, the quick pace, combined with their lack of as heavy as a burden as the described package, would grant them enough time to set up shop. For the purposes of the mission, Gouka had turned his signature black trench-coat inside out, yielding its more camo-friendly inner-green lining. Hopefully, it would be enough for the task he had in mind. 'Note to self; not all opts will be night opts. Invest in something more camouflaged. He thought to himself, barely slowing his pace as he ran headlong up a tree, his chakra flaring from his feet to stick to the rough bark after a brief hand-seal. They were very close to the border crossing now, and a quick scouting was needed to determine how close they were cutting it. As Gouka rose up through the thick foilage, peering into the distance, he suppressed a curse; the answer, naturally, was "Too close for my liking." Off in the distance, but closing in fast, Gouka could make out the Konoha ninja; a weapons user from the looks of it, and unless he missed the mark completely, the rotund one had to be an Akimichi. Gouka's high vantage point was the only reason he could see him, and his stealth skills and camouflage were likely the only reasons they would miss him; as it was though, they would be able to get a visual on Gouka and Kageru in another minute or two, at best, and upon their position not much longer after that. Gouka ceased the chakra flow to his feet, twisting through the branches as he dropped quickly and silently back down to his comrade for the mission. He already had a plan in mind, but it would be a close thing. As such, he relayed it as briefly as he could to Kageru, already forming the seals for his first jutsu, his voice somewhat muffled by his mask. "Two tangos, weapons user, Akimichi, approaching fast. Kage Bunshin." With a burst of chakra, a perfect replica of the masked chunin appeared, performing its own jutsu while Gouka rapidly slapped a few explosive tags on its chest. By the time he finished, the clone had transformed, taking the appearance of a slightly older, civilian Gouka (An eery mirror of his father, though Gouka paid no mind to it), with the addition of several wounds across his back, and a slit throat. Already in on the plan, the clone dropped to the ground, laying face-first and playing the part of a corpse. He continue speaking in rushed tones to Kageru. "Transform. Hide weapons. Think shell-shocked civvy child." Knowing what little he did of her, he doubted she could do "abject horror," but perhaps her blank emotionlessness could be mistaken for "shell shock." Hoping he'd given enough details (or that Kageru was at least smart enough to fill-in whatever blanks he may have left), and that she was a quick to act as he, another burst of chakra sent Gouka running back up the tree, along the side opposite from the approach of the incoming Konoha nin. Ensconced in the branches a good 12 meters up, Gouka froze into place, silent as the grave and motionless as a coiled snake. If all went well, they'd have the package in minutes and leave behind two heavily wounded Konoha nin. If they didn't... Gouka quietly slipped out his blades, attaching them to their clips as he tried not to ponder what sort of effect the memory of being blown to bits would have on him; his affliction affected him as hard as ever, and he could only hope the memory did not cripple him long enough for an enemy to get in a good shot on him. Provided he had a chance to set the tags off, at least.
Equipment
- Spoiler:
Explosive tags: 24/34
Name: Raiju Fangs Rank: B Type: Close-Mid (0-10M) Appearance: A reforging of Gouka's previous set of daggers these blades are much the same as ever; two single-edge prongs with a half inch space down the middle, malformed hexagon cross-guard, 10 inch length overall, though with slightly different proportions; now four inches of length are devoted to the hilt, with a small metal loop at the base of the blade, allowing for a wire to be clipped to it. The center of the cross-guard features a hole in the middle, large enough to fit a finger through. The steel of the daggers has undergone more compact forging, making them slightly heavier, sturdier for close-combat, but still light enough for throwing. Of particular note is that the blades have had an additional ingredient added into them; the powdered fangs of a lightning-based summon Gouka encountered upon a mission, granting a few noteworthy qualities. Quantity: 2 Storage: Kunai pouch or a sheathe on each thigh. Special Abilities: Due to the additional materials used in the reforging, the weapons now possess chakra conductivity; Raiton in particular, to a greater degree, the other elements to a lesser degree. And while not particularly a special ability, the loop and clips allow for the daggers to be held in such a way that hand seals are possible without having to discard or sheathe the weapons.
Name: Trench Coat Rank: C Type: Armor Appearance: Very simple, a long black trench coat, reaching approximately to Gouka's shins. IT can be buttoned across the chest while allowing the bottom to flare out around his legs. This, combined with the slit up the back of the coat-tails, allows the coat to be worn without hindering movement. A short collar covers the neck areas, and the long sleeves fit loosely, allowing for weapons to be concealed within them. The outside of the coat is a dark black, while the inside is a forest green; this is on account of the jacket being reversible, allowing the black-side for night missions and the green side for camouflage during day missions. Quantity: 1 Storage: Worn Special Abilities: Of note is that the material of the jacket is actually a light, thin kelvar. The end result is that overall, the jacket is quite flame-retardant; C-rank blazes will not overtly affect the user for short exposures, and the jacket will last at least long enough against a B-rank blaze to remove the now-burning jacket. D-rank and lower will hardly affect the coat at all, unless applied for greatly extended periods of time.
Name: Wrist-attached Rappeller Rank: D Type: Close Quantity: 2 Description: Simple pulley-device, attached to the wrist, that allows for a coil of wire to be attached. Wires can then be extended and shortened at will, a clip allowing for rappelling from them. Also has an inserted blade, to cut the wires for quick release.
SCs
- Spoiler:
Name: Quick Speed Rank: B Type: Physical Physical Requirements: Must Specialize in Weaponry or Taijutsu. Training Requirements: A 1200 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic. Description: The second level in the art of speed accessible to those who have undergone intense training in high speed movement. The possessor of this talent has an increased speed of 40% which makes them considerably faster. Their movements become so fast and vivid that the ninja can create afterimages in motion. They're body is seen as a blur as they move swiftly and almost unmatchable to the human eye.
Name: Kurōn-byō [Clone Sickness] Rank: B Type: None. Range: Personal Element: None. Description: The Shadow Clone is a fairly potent jutsu, yielding onto the field another warm body to throw at the enemy, along with training and espionage applications, given that the clone imparts its memories onto the user. For Takeshi Gouka, the memories imparted are much more potent, but in a flawed way. Upon learning the Shadow Clone, Gouka found he was too in tune with his clones. Upon their death, he could remember the very act of dying itself, could still remember the brief moment of terror preceding the cessation of existence, could remember the phantom of pain as a blade slices across the clones throat. In essence, every time one of his clones dies, Gouka personally experiences the death, and all the trauma one would associate with dying, to the point that particularly brutal clone deaths can place a dangerous toll on his mental stability. Long-term Effect: Over time, the "death memory" begins to seep in from all forms of clones, not only Shadow Clones. Whether it is truly being remembered, or the repeated deaths of the Shadow Clones has impressed a vivid imagination and mental reflex upon Gouka, is debatable. Repeated use of the clones, and thus repeated experiences of the death trauma, will wear away on Gouka over time. Eventually, he will hold less and less regard for life, any life, even his own. If the trauma progresses long enough, he may even begin to see death a a gift, a sweet release, and happily oblige in dolling it out. Alternatively, the repeated death trauma may simply burn him out, causing him to regard death as no more important than an untied shoe. Only time will tell. Chakra Cost: None. Word Count Requirement: 1200 Words
Name: Advanced Stealth Rank: C Type: Physical Physical Requirements: N/A Training Requirements: A 600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic. Description: A skill gained by ninja who have begun to specialize in the art of stealth. The ninja becomes very light and quick on their feet. Their movements no longer create sound and they now gain a natural skill for hiding and camouflage.
Name: Evasiveness Rank: C Type: Physical Physical Requirements: None. Training Requirements: A 600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic. Description: The ninja trains their ability in more advanced evasive maneuvers which serves the purpose of avoiding enemy attacks. The survivability of the ninja increases as they are now capable of executing quicker flips and dodging basic forms of physical attacks by reading an enemies movement.
Name: Improved Perception Rank: C Type: Mental Based Physical Requirements: N/A Training Requirements: A 600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic. Description: The ninja trains their skill in perception and analyzing their environment to more distinct levels. Most physical motions are identified and picked up by the ninja whether its a movement in a leaf or a change in temperature. This skill is handy when faced with Genjutsu as it makes the user capable in identifying an illusion of C-Rank or lower. However although they can sense the Genjutsu they must rely on other methods of breaking the spell. The ninja also becomes extremely perceptive and observant when it comes to people, being able to pick out mood changes or better understand character. In addition, this skill becomes useful in combat, where the Ninja grows to understand the patterns, habits and the 'rhythm' of the opponent over periods of time.
Jutsu
- Spoiler:
Name: Henge no Jutsu • Transformation Technique Rank: E Type: Ninjutsu Range: N/A Element: N/A Description: This technique transforms the user’s appearance to that of another object or person. However, it is not a permanent transformation and a mental image of what they are transformed into. Certain aspects of a ninja will not change merely by transformation, these things may include injuries, tool pocket placements etc. The jutsu will dispel should the user be injured. The user does not gain the properties of their transformation (ie. horse like strength), and may only transform into something ranging between 1/2 of their regular size, to 2x their regular size. Thus one cannot transform into large creatures. Chakra Cost: 1
Name: Kinobori no Waza • Act of Tree Climbing (X2) Rank: D Type: N/A Range: N/A Element: N/A Description: This technique allows the user to balance themselves on trees and vertical walls by focusing a constant and steady stream of chakra to the user’s feet. Gravity can easy be defined if this technique is mastered, allowing people to even stand upside down. If too much chakra is exerted the user will be pushed away; bark breaking and causing the user to then fall. If not enough chakra is exerted the user will lose their footing and fall. Chakra Cost: 1 (1 per post)
Name: Kage Bunshin no Jutsu - Shadow Clone Technique Rank: B Type: Ninjutsu Range: N/A Element: N/A Description: Similar to the Clone Technique, this jutsu creates clones of the user. Unlike the Clone Technique, these clones are actual copies, not illusions. The user's chakra is evenly distributed among every clone, giving each clone an equal fraction of the user's overall power. The clones are capable of performing jutsu on their own and can even bleed, but will usually disperse after one or two solid blows. They can also disperse on their own. The clones will be created in roughly the same condition as the original. Because the chakra of each clone is evenly distributed, the user and each clone will contain the same amount of chakra after deducting the initial chakra cost. All remaining chakra on the clone after it is dispersed is refunded to the user. Clones automatically disperse if their chakra supply hits zero, but are not influenced by the 10 chakra minimum for survival. Chakra Cost: 15 (Per clone)
80-1-15 = 64 /2 = 32 Gouka: 32 - 1 = 31 (21) Clone: 32 -1 = 31

| Death.. Death was the single thought lingering within her otherwise silent mind. Death would come, she could feel it in her bones. The bitter taste of Death lingered like the blood on her lips, and like few other missions it seemed her victory itself would hang upon that single thought. Though she listened intently to the short briefing few words seemed to find their way to the forefront of her conscious mind. Package, intercept, Konoha; these words left only the single thought to remain. Death. Takado did not fear Death, for the two were partners. All her life this word, this idea, this act of visiting death upon others had been her sole purpose to exist. Moving through the forest now she reflected upon the importance it had played in her upbringing. Gliding through the trees was a simple task, her innate speed and superb sense of balance and motion allowing her to skip from one foot to other. Each long stride was a leap forward through the tress, and all around her was a blur of passing branches, but the progress she made was remarkable. Even passing through the forest she is dressed now as she always is dressed; a layered robe of contrasting blacks and whites painstakingly embroidered with deceptively gentle flowers. Pinks and greens and blues dotted the petals decorating the outermost layer of her clothing, a black kimono constructed from the finest of silks. With the sleeves cut short the rough spun cotton beneath is exposed along her arms, a pair of long billowing sleeves flowing clear down to her fingertips. The stark white sleeves were covered in black lettering and lines of fuuinjutsu script. As always her left hand remained fixed on the pommel of her katana as she moved, the blade forever situated right at her hip. The clothing, the finery, even the delicate red paint on her fingernails and carefully placed black outlining her eyes counted for nothing when placed in comparison against the simple steel katana. There was nothing special about it in the sense of supernatural ability; it was just a simple tool made for one purpose. Death.. Death was her single goal, her single true purpose, and Kageru knew that her orders had been passed down from those who also knew this simple fact. The few important words she'd picked up from her briefing had amounted to a much simpler orders: Slay your enemy and bring back the prize. On the outside her demeanor was cool as they traveled, haste pushing them onward but the stress of the voyage failing to register upon a face as cold and pale as winter snow. As she lands upon the broad branch of an ancient pine the fingertips of her left hand dance softly around the handle of her sword. It's a subtle motion, barely the fluttering of her fingers, but enough to allow her to caress the cold steel end cap of her weapon's handle. Death would come, it was why she existed. To gaze upon her face, few ever held the slightest doubt about her intentions, her eyes not filled with hate, and not filled with pity, but filled only with the emptiness of cold resolution. Her lips remain set in an eternal pose of complete disinterest with her world, matching well the empty gaze of her deep, dark eyes. They tracked Gouka as he moved ahead of her, effortlessly following the placement of the shinobi's foot, her own feet sure to land almost perfectly with each step, just where Gouka had landed with his own foot falls. It was nothing for Kageru, it was simply how those members of the Shigumo clan always traveled. In single file, with such carefully placed footsteps, even a legion of nimble soldiers could be seen to trackers as only a handful of enemies. Deception was the life of the Shigumo clan; but then again so did Death. Shiugumo kept no tally of their kills, though these unfortunate Konoha shinobi would not be the first. Not the last, not even important, just a pair of faces who'd been unlucky enough to draw straws against Kageru. Their deaths did not matter, only the prize was important. Their deaths did not matter, but they would surely come. Kageru's face remains perfectly placid as these thoughts pass through her head, interrupted only by the quiet orders passed back from Gouka. He outranked her, so he was clearly in charge, though the girl makes no notice of his words. She does not nod, she does not reply, her eyes remain vacant as though she had not even been listening, but the next step she falls. Grace carries her softly to the ground below, a branch Gouka had chosen becoming one she simply avoided. Just like their her motion stopped, and the team was split apart. Standing still beneath the trees for a moment the world seems still. The chaos of branches rushing past and the wind tearing through her hair was gone and there was only the forest. There was no clearing, only a ground of packed earth and sparse vegetation. A few bushes stood silent vigil in the distance, but for the most part it was only the thick trunks of the old growth woods. Death.. Death was coming closer each moment, already their plan was falling into place. Her left hand leaves the handle of her katana only reluctantly, moving slowly upwards to meet her right. Both pressed together, fingers moving softly into the proper form for a simple seal. A moment later a puff of smoke pops out around her, and the image in her mind's eye is printed over her typically grim exterior. As the smoke of her transformation technique fades her form is transformed into something completely other. It was.. convincing, if only because she chose herself for the image. She'd shed a decade of years and half her height, but there she stood as a frightened child of perhaps 6 years. Tears had cut clean paths through cheeks otherwise smeared with dirt and grime. Her clothes were in tatters, a kimono sure, but one stained with dust and dirt, worn from use and torn through misuse in a dozen places. The hem was in tatters, frayed well beyond repair, and yet the poor child still wore them. A soft sniffle begins the facade as a bent crook of wood appears in her hand. It was as ragged a piece of wood as she was a human. The length of the walking stick towered over the hunched over child making her seem only smaller. Surely such a stick belonged to her parent, or some other adult, and her partner had seen to filling such a role out. Even now the corpse linger near her, a dead man old enough to be her father. Distress was painted through the scene, and dispair seemed to emanate from the illusion of a child as readily as it might from the real thing. The child, sobbing though she was, had her back turned towards the corpse lain out some ten feet behind her, and seemed to do all she could to pay it no mind. She coughs once and slumps lower, bending her head down and making herself seem smaller still. More tears come to the surface, welling in her eyes, and then rolling softly down her cheeks. She seemed miserable, pathetic, somehow detestable in her weakness, and it was an image she pulled off flawlessly. Deception was a great tool to the shinobi, but this was really a small lie. This was more true than the grim facade she wore as a mask to protect herself. This had been her, this broken creature, before her emotions had been stripped from her. Her parents might have killed her on the spot for taking such a form once more, but they were far away now. The form seemed a good choice to Kageru, but even as she pretends to be weak and shed tears, her mind fills with the memories she still somehow retained from such traumatic years. She'd been beaten and bloodied more times than she could count, and even at this age was close to claiming her first life. She could hold a sword, she could swing it, but she'd had such little natural drive for the life of an assassin. She could have been a happy child, if they had left her to crayons and paper, allowed her time to pick flowers and stargaze, or even the simple comfort of a few nice words. She was given none of these things, and instead was punished when she wished to play, chastised when she wished to color, and forced to fight when she wished only for peace. Her family had turned her into a monster, and whispered her the bliss and joy of being one so devoid of emotion and morality. They'd told her of personal gain, of silent motion, of power and glory. Above all, however, they'd told her of Death. Death.. Death would come soon, but should it? Was it alright? Doubt was something Kageru hid well. Doubt did not cloud her performance, it did not manifest in the soft sobs of misery and pain she sniffled out now, pathetic cries to strike the ears of attentive targets, and sting the hearts of shinobi who may still have them. Pity, compassion, generosity, they were the first emotions she was taught to exploit, but why? Why must she be the monster? why must she be the one to visit death upon those she had never come to even know. Tears come too easily for her, her fingers gripping the illusory cane tighter. Doubt never showed on her face, but that is not to say it did not effect her. This doubt.. where did it come from? It was rare she felt this nagging sense, rare she allowed anything to come between her and victory, but she had been long removed from battle. Those in Kumogakure did not share the same outlook one life as the Shigumo clan. Had they made her weak? Had going so long without drawing the blood of another somehow rekindled some manner of life within the heart long dead in her chest? Would she really kill her enemies. Could she really kill her enemies? It had been so long since she'd done so, and she'd never truly done so in battle, only in the torture of her training. A pain of pain shot through her heart as she sobbed, adding a level of fact to the myth of emotion she'd been weaving. Her orders had not implicitly said to slay her enemy, but she'd read it between the lines previously. It was not as though her enemies would simply hand over their cargo without comment or concern. Surely they would seek to protect it, and surely they had it every bit in mind to kill her for trying to steal it. Surely this would come to blows, and surely Kageru would slay them. This was the way of nature, it was the way of the world. Shinobi died, and other shinobi killed them. She squeezes the scabbard of her sword tighter, and closes her eyes tightly. Louder and louder her voice rises, soft groans and sobs beginning to fill the woods around her. It was a terribly convincing performance, enough so to even sting gently in the background of her heart. Why was she having these feelings? Why all of this doubt? She had never wanted to kill anyone, but this time she was beginning to fear. She had never wanted to spare her enemy, but this time.. there was only thought not consuming the fore front of her mind. A single word feared all through out the world. A single word which could cost a victory, which could lose a battle, and the one thing feared universally by even the most powerful of warriors... Doubt.

| Shiro, now focused and truly ready began to set off again when Makoto reached out, touching his shoulder. "Hold up" He said as he lightly tugged the Akimichi's shoulder. Allowing the mild pressure to guide him, Shiro stopped and turned to his partner. "Sure, what's up?". Removing his hand from Shiro's shoulder, Makoto's face became grimly serious, several wrinkles forming across his brow as it furled. He looked down to his side for a moment before glaring back up through his hair. "Listen, I'm glad you're feeling better, but I've been thinking. This is a very important mission, if they weren't so short staffed we'd never have been entrusted with a B rank mission. It's very likely we could encounter enemy ninja, ninja who are likely to be far stronger than us.". He looked away for a moment and in that moment Shiro's stomach sunk. The fears he had just expelled began to surface again, but before they began to boil, Makoto continued. "So I figured, while we need to put the mission in front of everything, if a situation comes up where it's the mission or our lives, we choose our lives.".
Shiro was dumbfounded for a moment. He knew that the choice between life and duty was a fine line to draw, and one of the most controversial of all choices a Shinobi can face. He had heard stories of shinobi who died heroes in the line of duty, while those who came home alive, but failures, were sometimes shunned. During his academy days, especially during the chunnin exams, he would hear stories from other students saying how the Hidden Mist ninja would complete their jobs or be killed for failure. While he was young he often believed these tales, but as he grew older doubted their full authenticity. But here, he now could face the same situation, but had been given an answer beforehand. Confused he asked "So... that's it? We just give up if we run into trouble?!". The mere thought of surrendering so easily stirred anger within him, but Makoto, almost reading this growing fire raised his hand to silence the thoughts. "Of course not. We should be able to handle most situations. I'm just planning for a worse case scenario. Any enemy we encounter out here will likely be aiming for that box" he points to Shiro's bag as he mentions their objective "So if we surrender it, there's a chance we may get away with our lives."
Before Shiro was able to speak, Makoto continued, anticipating his retorts. "Now, that doesn't mean we let them off easy, if at all. If we can't complete our mission then we should make sure they cannot either. Pass me your bag". His outstretched hand spun over revealing an open palm, requesting the bag. For a moment, Shiro hesitated, but he long resided himself to following Makoto as the leader. With a small nod, he swung the bag over his shoulder and into Makoto's waiting hands. "Thanks, now here's the plan" He said, placing the bag on the ground and opening it up. "What the?" Instantly the young genin was taken aback, for inside this bag was not spare equipment to aid with the mission, but bags and bags of chips and snacks. "What is this?" He demanded, looking up at Shiro, who immediately threw his arms up in defense "Hey, I need those snacks. My jutsu suffer if I'm on an empty stomach".
Shaking his head, he began to unpack the snacks without a word, removing the bronze box last and setting it gently to the ground. "Well, that's a good thing actually. It'll be able to hide these better". And with a flick of his arm, he reached into his pouch and pulled out 4 explosive tags and 6 explosive bags. He then placed them into the bottom of the bag, the powder first and using the tags to stick them into place. "Now, pass me yours.". Looking down into his pack, now lined with explosives, Shiro was starting to put the plan together. "Oh I get it" He said as he passed over his tags and bags, now doubling their power. "So, let me guess this" Shiro said "If we run into some ninja we can't fight, we bargain with them, showing them the box and tossing the bag. Then boom! right?"
A mischievous grin spread across Makoto's face as he looked up to his large companion. "Yup. You got it. With luck it'll take out whomever attacks us and we can at least report that".. Makoto then began to refill the bag , snacks first, packing them in such a way that they would pad around the box and it would remain clearly visible if the bag were opened. "Um.. just one thing" Shiro said as Makoto lifted the box. "You sure the box there will be destroyed in the explosion? It looks pretty tough".. A laugh escaped Makoto for a moment at Shiro's doubt. "Don't worry about that, we got enough firepower in this thing to blow this to bits, and anyone near it too". With that, he sealed the bag and passed it back to Shiro. "Now, let's get going"..
With that, the two were off, the border a short run away now the trees would begin to thin. The border of the Fire Country was easily determined by the abrupt ending of the forests, usually by mountainous areas or plains. The Hot Springs country was mildly mountainous and the treeline rapidly thinned the closer to the border one got. When Shiro and Makoto reached this point, they were nearly blinded for a moment by the sudden sunlight striking their eyes. "We're near the border now Shiromaru, be on your guard".. Nodding silently, they increased their pace and surged forward.
It wasn't a minute later that the two heard a noise, it certainly wasn't the natural wildlife and moments later they saw it. Behind a small thicket they saw a brutal scene. Down on the ground was an older man, lying facedown in a red puddle, most certainly blood. Beside him, a crying girl, judging from her size she could be no more than 6. Their clothes were torn and stained with blood and dirt, implying they had been running for a long time, or had not found a place of safety in some time. The scene was enough to get the two to stop in their tracks.
"Hey there, are you okay?" Shiro called out, a redundant question but nothing else came to his mind. Before he could get an answer from the girl, he turned to Makoto. "We can't leave them". Makoto nods in agreement "I'll care to the old man, you look after the girl".. The two then approached slowly, Shiro raising his arms slightly and spoke slowly and reassuringly. "Hey, we're not here to hurt you. We just want to help, what's your name miss?"
((Sorry, I probably played Makoto out of character, but I'm just following what he said he wanted to happen in PMs and how he thought of the mission)) |

| Kageru met up to expectations, following the lead perfectly, even with as little time as Gouka had had to collaborate. In fact, Gouka had to admit he didn't give the expressionless genin enough credit; had he not actually seen her transform, and specifically ordered it of her, he might have actually believed that there was a lost, confused, scared little girl here, lost in the forest. The glint of tears streaming from her eyes even seemed genuine. Gouka sat perched quietly within the branches, little sound save for the wet sobbing of Kageru's ploy... And, soon enough, the pounding, steady approach of running feet. 'Not a moment too soon. Gouka thought as the two ninja- their targets- quickly came into view. From his hidden, secured perch, he took a quick appraisal of the two Konoha shinobi. The one in the lead, baring a heavy pack on his back, was clearly an Akimichi; the rolling expanses of flab across most of his body, combined with the lightning bolt cheek-markings and brown hair, would have been a dead give-away to anyone with even the most meager knowledge of clans and bloodlines. The Akimichi clan markings branding most of his clothes, and his knapsack, certainly helped as well. The other ninja was not so easily placed; wearing a formal, black kimono, and as far as Gouka's keen eye could see, bristling with a fair number of weapons. With black hair and dark eyes, there was nothing particularly distinguishable about him, though he seemed rather short to Gouka; the smoothness of his face, however, indicated that this was more due to youth than anything else. Overall, everything about them spoke of two mere, young genin. 'Perfect.'The two were making a decent pace, the Akimichi leading and the other taking up the rear, though they both slowed to a halt upon spotting the open, exposed and crying "child." Typical Konoha; always the helpful sort. After a brief moment of discussion, the two headed over; the Akimichi heading towards Kageru, speaking reassurances, while the other, the weapons user, headed for Gouka's explosive-laden clone. Another quick glance confirmed what Gouka needed; the weapons user was not burdened enough to account for their target, the bronze box. It was likely stowed with the Akimichi. It almost would have been too easy... But, as Gouka surveyed the scene, he quickly came to a conclusion that had escaped him in the rush to set up the ambush; Kageru was too close. Too close, at least, for Gouka to reasonably risk setting off the tags. An imperceptible rising of his chest was the only indication of Gouka's sigh as he quietly, silently drew his blades. Ah well; he hadn't been particularly looking forward to exploding himself anyway, as he knew he'd remember the experience through his clone. The weapon's user knelt down, hand stretching out, clearly intent on searching for a pulse. Gouka's descent was quiet as a leaf, not that the weapons user would have noticed, as at the precise moment Gouka dropped, the clone sprung to life, grabbing at the shinobi's foot. Startled, he darted back upright, only for Gouka to his his rising back like the proverbial ton of bricks. His daggers, held in the air above him, struck down, biting into the young shinobi's shoulders; before he could even cry out in pain, the tendons in his shoulder's had been sliced, rendering his arms useless, and leaving him completely defenseless. And all with the span of a fraction of a second; Gouka's weight continue baring down, his knee planted firmly into the younger Shinobi's back, sending him crashing face-first into the ground, the clone having quickly rolled out from under him once his attention had been diverted. Kneeling on the younger nin's back, Gouka jerked his blades out of his shoulders, blood quickly welling from the wound, staining his back. Still, as Gouka brought his knife up to finish the blow, a flash of hesitation struck across his mind. Only now did it really strike him how young he was; barely more than a child, and one sent on a mission he simply had no business attempting. How easily the roles could have been reversed, had this near-war broken out a few years earlier. Might a younger Gouka, then, had been sent on such a mission, finding himself faced with vastly superior opponents? It was enough to fill him with unease; as it was, his hand remained poised, ready to strike down and end the young nin's life, one leg moving as he shifted his weight, jostling the blade the young man wore at his belt. Raising his voice, he made himself heard. "Stand down, Akimichi, unless you wish to see more of your comrade's blood spilled into this parched earth, quickly followed by your own." Gouka was fairly unconcerned with a counter-attack; the weapons user was disabled and pinned, and his clone was now on its feet, ready to attack as well. (OOC: Yeah, not happy with how I ended this, but I was in a rush; opted out of our agreed Olan take-down, for a more-or-less less inherently lethal option. Wind, if you're still so keen on seeing Kageru hurt, you can always get caught in the box's booby trap. And just for the record, no, I'm not happy with how easily I take out Olan's character either, but it can't be helped.)

| Life had been such a waste, she could see that now. All these years of vile oppression, years of slaughter and suffering lead to nothing but more of the same. She had been given life for the single purpose of sewing death. Nothing could ever stop it short of her own demise, yet no matter how retched her life seemed the prospect of death seemed much worse. She didn't want to die, she wanted to paint, to sing, to bask in the sun atop a hill of yellow and blue wildflowers. She wanted such simple things and yet still she was denied them all. It was denial at the point of a sword, be it the blade of her family or her own sword. There was a subtle shift in her form even before the ninja had arrived, before Gouka had descended from above with two daggers. It had only been a small amount of growth, a subtle darkening in the tattered rags clothing the girl; little more than a subconscious shudder at the memories washing through her head. There had been so much death, so much killing for a girl so young. Only constant fear had ever kept her from coming to pieces, but here she'd felt no fear. She was far away from home, and surely her parents weren't watching. Her realizations did not prevent the swift fall of blades and in time with Gouka's landing time seems to catch up with her.
For a moment she is lost, her mind a quiet blank, the tears on her cheek forgotten as she straightens herself to her full height. At the same time her illusion is dispelled, and yet so little of her exterior changes. She grows in an instant from a small child into a mostly grown woman, her rags shifting to fine robes, and her walking stick transforming into a steel sword still within its wooden scabbard. Her skin remains pale, and her expression is no less horrified. Her look may seem more horrific however, as now her tears are stained black with the soot dark lines carefully drawn around her black eyes. Her tears had been convincing, because her tears had been quite real. It's been at a very long time since she'd shed tears, and longer still since anyone had ever been there to witness such an event. Once they had started, it seemed much more difficult to make them stop. But why should she make them stop? From the bottoms of her eyes down her cheek and chin the bold black smears made obvious note of just where her tears had passed, but it was highlighted by the strange swirl of red. Dripping in a steady line from each side of her mouth was a steady trickle of brilliantly red blood. She had seen no obvious injury, but when she opened her mouth the flow increased slightly. b
"Monsters." Comes the single word, one spoken in a voice far to placid, far to calm, far to devoid of emotion for such a dramatic face. It was true, the lot of them were monsters. Each one was trained to kill, trained to hunt down others and slay them. Her left arm lifts slowly, dragging her katana upwards until it's pointed outwards, as though she was trying to hand it to Gouka. "Trained in death, all four of us. Trained to kill, trained to fight and here we are.. the result of so much intent and careful planning." she continues, her voice carrying somewhat quietly. Her words were spoken calmly, though more of her blood slipped past now bloody red lips to drip silently off of her chin. Spots of red mostly vanished upon the midnight black silk of her kimono, the cruel effect of her own outer monster. True to form her teeth had been filed into jagged razors which seemed uncomfortable in any sort of jaw. It was they which had torn the inner edges of her lips open, and sliced the tip and sides of her tongue in a dozen places. This was the hallmark of the Shigumo clan, a secretive family few inside of Kumo had ever heard of, and even less famous outside of the Lightning country. The teeth were not fangs, they were blades; each one sharpened with finesse, care, and intent. This was how it was, each person was expected to be an expert in their art, and for the Shigumo, this was art.
Killing was also an art for the Shigumo, and it was the art Kageru had been born into. Her first memories involved sword play, and even in her early childhood she'd taken a life. Over and over she had her lessons beaten into her, and staring at Gouka now, she could see for herself the real result of those lessons. It was nothing but death and pain and suffering, for no more purpose than the pursuit of some box. Slowly her left arm lowers while she stares at Gouka, paying little mind to the still unattended leaf shinobi who'd been left unharmed, and still standing. The katana is returned to its rightful place at her side, the scabbard slid beneath the wide cloth belt around her waist, and at once her right hand moves to settle gently on the handle. "This is the way, the truth of the world. Birth and death are meaningless days which serve only as bookends to contain a predetermined number of years, in which each of us will suffer. We suffer to please our friends, we suffer to satisfy the desires of our families, and we suffer at the hands of our enemies. We are strong, or we die." Her eyes trail back over to Gouka as she speaks, her voice calm, her expression one a mix of shed blood and surprising tranquility. None had ever heard so many words flow from her lips in one day, but she still carried on speaking. "And yet even if we are strong, surely we die. There are always those stronger, and those who see no value in the lives of others. Always the strong prey on the weak.. always the children are the first to die.." she mutters, her voice dropping some as she gives a quick glance to the crippled weakling pinned and bloodied beneath Gouka. Then comes a pair of words as surprising to herself as it might be to the others. "No more.."
And just like that she acts, shifting from a tranquil oddity into a blur of motion almost to fast to follow. Her hand draws upwards and out, sliding the blade of her katana free from the scabbard even as she closes the distance between herself and Gouka. "Release him!" she shouts as she moves, anger the first emotion heard in her voice. Even as the words fall, however, her blade rises, flashing out in a blink and swinging for Gouka's neck. Decapitation would be an easier move, even if she was just targeting a shadowclone. Having been privy to the creation of the clone, and spying the weight and power behind the real Gouka's attack on the downed Konoha nin Kageru knew well which was real and which was not, so this act of mercy would spare her partner's life.. but was this truly an act of mercy? Kageru strikes with the full intention to kill, her blade soon to bite deep through illusory flesh, to rend through vaporous bone, to severe the clone's head from it's shoulders. While this would spare Gouka, few could guess at the reaction it would have on the battlefield as a whole. Even Kageru could not guess, for she had not planned this action through.

| It was over in an instant, neither of the genin could have hoped to predict, nor counter it. For as the two approached the bait, the trapmaster fell from the skies, implanting his blades into the shoulders of Makoto. He didn't even have time to scream before the blades were removed, spraying crimson mist, and angled again at his throat. Time seemed to be slowed to Shiro from the moment he heard the sound of metal piercing flesh. An eternity it took to turn his head to the left and see the attacker, clad in black with a white smiling mask. Bloody mist arcing through the air, following his blade until it rested at Makoto's neck. Almost instinctively his body began to move, catching up with his mind's perception as time came speeding back to him with a mighty cry. "RAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Fist clenching, torso twisting he moved to strike at the assailant whom, catching notice of the actions, turned his mask slightly to get a glimpse of the genin and spoke in a booming, demanding voice. "Stand down, Akimichi, unless you wish to see more of your comrade's blood spilled into this parched earth, quickly followed by your own.".
And he complied, stamping his foot hard into the dirt, kicking up a small amount of dust. His right arm hanging midair, midpunch. Face contorted in confused rage Shiro realized he could take no actions. This man had ambushed both and disabled Makoto in an instant. In less than that he could end Makoto's life and be upon Shiro as well. Additionally, from the corner of his eye, he could see the old man standing, looking as a standing corpse with his front stained crimsion. The tear stricken girl stood too, staring blankly towards him.
A light wind blew through the area, rustling grass, leaves, hair and clothing. But for bodies remained unmoving and 3 unflinching. Makoto had managed to stifle his screams, but still let out the occasional wimper with the blade near his throat. His breaths forcing out a new squirt of blood form the dual wounds. Slowly, very slowly, not to provoke the masked man, Shiro lowered his fist to his side and stood straight up, fists clenched at his sides. "Dammit. He got us". He thought angrily, and not only did he completely beat the two genin in an instant, but he knew that Shiro was an Akimichi, implying he had a knowledge of his clan's techniques. This was certainly the worst case scenario Makoto mentioned before. Which meant only one thing, he'd have to try and bargain with this assailant. To save Makoto, and himself at the cost of the mission. But would this man release Makoto and let them leave if they surrendered the box? Was the box their objective? He had no way of knowing, not without asking. Before he could speak however, something, someone stopped him.
"Monsters" came a female voice. Shifting his gaze, Shiro now saw not a small crying child, but a young girl around his age. Dressed with an ornate black kimono contrasting her pale, near albino skin. From her mouth, a familiar streak of crimson was beginning to flow but what caught his eye the most was the gentle shimmering of her cheeks. Tears. She was crying, not as a ruse, at least not any longer. The tears were still flowing. Slowly the girl began raising a sword, almost as though she were offering it to the masked man as she continued to speak. "Trained in death, all four of us. Trained to kill, trained to fight and here we are.. the result of so much intent and careful planning.".
Her armed lowered slowly again. "This is the way, the truth of the world. Birth and death are meaningless days which serve only as bookends to contain a predetermined number of years, in which each of us will suffer. We suffer to please our friends, we suffer to satisfy the desires of our families, and we suffer at the hands of our enemies. We are strong, or we die.". What the hell was going on? Was she breaking down? Was this normal for her? Shiro spared a momentary glance from the girl back to the masked man and Makoto. Although he couldn't read any expressions or movements through that mask, it was almost certain that he must be paying attention to this as well. "And yet even if we are strong, surely we die. There are always those stronger, those who see no value in the lives of others. Always the strong prey on the weak.. always the children are the first to die..". The girl's words once more catch Shiro's attention and gaze. A fair amount of blood was now trickling down from her mouth now and through her narrow mouth movements Shiro thought he could see why. Were her teeth... sharpened? Before he could ponder that thought more, she spoke a simple statement. "No more.."
Then, the unexpected happened. The girl drew her blade and began to charge the bloody man, crying out "Release him!" and unleashing a slash at the man's neck. The sight was enough to leave anyone dumbfounded but Shiro found something awaken in him. A screaming voice forcing him into action. If there was any chance for him to turn this around, it was this. Immediately he flared his chakra, he felt the power inside him surge and release. He molded it, flickers of energy became sparks of electricity which he guided into his muscles. Jump starting himself he felt his muscles clench as he bent forward and kicked off the ground. Raising his right leg high into the air aiming right at the man's face while his hand reached into his side pouch and found it's target. A small, unremarkable ball, but he had long memorized it's outer texture as a smoke bomb. From what he had deduced of this masked man, he would almost certainly avoid this attack, his quickened movements would not likely close that gap any further. What Shiro was counting on was the surprise of the girl's actions, along with his kick, would divert the masked man's attention away from Makoto and the knife. The kick would force him back enough for Shiro to free Makoto and drop the smoke bomb, hopefully securing their escape into the thick treeline just a short distance away.
Maybe, just maybe, there was still a way to get out without them dying or failing the mission.

| They say that once you've done any job long enough, you begin to get a sense for things. A touch of forewarning, of primal instinct. Fishermen suddenly know when to head to shore, because clear as the sky might be, a storm is coming; hunters known when to set up camp, knowing when they've become the hunted; a security guard knowing when the night is going to be anything but quiet. And right now, Gouka wished he'd been a ninja long enough to develop that keen, unique sense, so he wouldn't have to deal with the Charlie Foxtrot unfolding before him right now. It had been going so well; Gouka had taken down the weapon's user, and after a brief roar of rage, the Akimichi had stood down, understanding that his actions held the life of his comrade in the balance. That was good. That was all according to the plan. It'd be a simple matter to barter his life for the package, and Gouka could complete the mission relatively clean. No skin off his bones, and not a terrible amount of blood staining his blades. Of course, this plan was swiftly shot out the window once Kageru started monologuing. 'Oh, what fresh hell is this!?' Gouka silently cursed, Kageru giving out a brief, terse "Monsters" before launching into a rant. Gouka didn't really try to take in her words, but he knew they likely wouldn't end well for him. Shifting ever so slightly, he placed his boot on the back of the head of the young ninja pinned under him; the toe met perfectly in the crook, nestled up in the base of his skull. Gouka was not a man to take chances, and he was perpared to push off rapidly if it came to it. Kageru continued to ramble, blood and tears spilling down her face, the Akimichi apparently as confused by the display as Gouka was. He knew little of Kageru, but from what he'd seen of the girl prior, he doubted she'd ever spoken as many words at once before in all her life. The clone, it's disguise dropping as it turned into a perfect replica of Gouka, quietly palmed its own copy-daggers. The tensing of her muscles, visible to Gouka's keen gaze, was all the warning he and his clone got as she rushed forward, demanding for Gouka to release the genin. Kageru, however, would be the clone's problem, as from the corner of his eye, Gouka saw the Akimichi crouch down, launching himself forward with a roar of rage. Both ninja were moving fast, Kageru at a speed Gouka had already known to expect of her, and the Akimichi, while not nearly as pronounced, certainly moving faster than Gouka would have given credit for such a large figure to be capable of. Unfortunately for both of them, Gouka had a good eye, quick reflexes, and was much faster than either of them could hope to be. The clone did not even blink as Kageru lashed out at its neck. Instead, its arms flashing up at a speed to match their creator, angled the daggers in such a way as to actually catch the sword swinging at its neck; one blade preventing the sharp steel from piercing the clone's neck, the other landing much closer to the hilt and guard. Continuing the motion, the clone would jerk down, twisting on the blade with its daggers. At worst, Kageru would only be forced to divert her blade, and at best, it would be wrenched completely out of her hands. This was not to say Gouka, the original, was simply standing still, waiting around to see how his clone fared. Even as Kageru made her attack, even as the Akimichi jumped into assault, Gouka was moving. It was a very simple maneuver; pushing forward and launching off the prone genin's back, his boot digging tightly into the base of the weapons user's skull, and Gouka was launched a good four meters away from both combatants before the Akimichi's spinning kick even cleared the air where Gouka's head had been, before the sound of Kageru's blade clashing with the clone's would finish echoing across the clearing. Gouka's sailed through the air, his blades dangling loosely from their wires, his fingers intertwining into a familiar seal. In the course of launching himself off the genin, Gouka had manipulated a simple mechanism with his feet, activating a device within his boot. Simple and elegant, three inches of steel had shot from the toe, piercing into the base of his skull and slicing through his brain-stem. Death would be quick, immediate, and painless. It was, Gouka would later recall sadly, the only mercy the situation had allowed Gouka. A rather touching sentiment, if the damned thing had actually worked. While the blades hidden in the boots were sharp and the soles were sturdy, the fact remained that the mechanism controlling the blades was a very fine thing, and that Gouka was stomping on them just about all day, every day. So while he may have made the appropriate movements to activate the blade, instead of shooting into the base of the prone ninja's skull, the blade had caught on the inside of the boot, never piercing the brain-stem. This didn't stop fact that 73 kilos of ninja launching with your neck as the launch point was a bad idea. It made the descriptor "neck breaking speeds" quite literal. Nevertheless though, the young genin would live, though the force of Gouka's launched cracked his vertebrae and knocked him right into a paralytic coma. The near-death state would give even the keenest eye trouble telling the boy was still alive, so for all intents and purposes, to those within the clearing, the young boy was dead, and Gouka had killed him. 'And now the gloves come off.'As Gouka launched through the air, a barely perceptible blur, four meters away and counting, he had to hope the distance would be enough as his fingers formed into a familiar seal. As Gouka executed the jutsu, the clone, in the process of its attempt to disarm Kageru, would wrench it's leg violently against the ground, snapping its ankle and violently dispelling itself. The phantom memory of pain would make Gouka stumble, his momentum carrying him into a tumbling roll. It was a small price to pay, however, compared to the painful memories that would have resulted had the clone still been in place when the ten exploding tags, activated by Gouka's jutsu, wafting gently in the smoke of the dispelled clone, violently exploded.

-10 Exploding Tags (Total Left: 24)
Name: Raiju Fangs Rank: B Type: Close-Mid (0-10M) Appearance: A reforging of Gouka's previous set of daggers these blades are much the same as ever; two single-edge prongs with a half inch space down the middle, malformed hexagon crossguard, 10 inch length overall, though with slightly different proportions; now four inches of length are devoted to the hilt, with a small metal loop at the base of the blade, allowing for a wire to be clipped to it. The center of the crossguard features a hole in the middle, large enough to fit a finger through. And while not particularly a special ability, the loop and clips allow for the daggers to be held in such a way that hand seals are possiblle without having to discard or sheathe the weapons.
Name: Knife Boots Rank: D Type: Weapon Appearance: A simple size 10 set of boots, made of polished black... whatever it is boots are made of, with a combination of laces and a bucklable strap across the neck, with thick, well insulated rubber soles. Oddly thick soles, at that. The secret of these boots however, lies within theses soles. Buried within them is a mechanism which, with the proper manipulation of the toes while in the boot, cause a short, 3 inch long blade to pop out at the toe-end of the shoe, parallel with the sole. While not particularly dangerous, it can add a nasty surprise to what at first appeared to be only a glancing blow. Quantity: 2 Storage: Worn on feet. Special Abilities: Only the element of surprise.

Name: Kyatchi to Tsuisuto - Catch and Twist Rank: C Type: Weapons Range: Close (0m) Element: N/A Description: Utilizing his unique pronged daggers, Gouka catches an enemies weapon provided it is a thing enough blade, between the prongs of his dagger. Then, giving his wrist a sharp twist, he can yank the weapon from his opponent's grasp, disarming them. Naturally only works against blades, and against larger blades, ninjato sized and up, he must attempt the catch as close to the hilt as possible to have enough leverage; otherwise he can only twist the blade aside, not yank it from his opponent's grasp. The inability to disarm, only turn aside, also applies if the opponent is simply stronger than Gouka. Chakra Cost: 5
Gouka: 28 - 1(12/3) + 26 = 50CP (40CP) Clone: 31 - 5 = 26 (Returned to Gouka)

| Gouka was not the only perceptive Ninja in the forest, nor the only ninja capable of breathtaking displays of seemingly effortless defense. When her sword meets steel there's little reaction on the kunoichi's face, no change in her eyes, no sudden or swift twist of her blade, only a moment of mental clarity. Though her attention seemed focused solely on the clone she was attacking, she was still tracking Gouka with her peripheral vision. She had hoped he would not choose this course of action, for it truely was the coward's way out. "You're a monster." she whispers to the clone, leaning in close while her sword was locked with the clone's knives. At the same time she gently fingers the handle of her katana, rubbing just beneath the crossguard of the antique, finely crafted instrument of death. In doing so she rubs into it a tiny seal, a circle of ink almost imperceptable to most, but as plain as day in her mind. The seal would aid her in the relocation of her blade, for at this moment she knew she simply must release it. Spending even a moment in attempting to wrest her blade away from the twisting grip of the Chuunin's knives would result in a rather catastrophic injury. The moment Gouka starts moving she is likewise reacting, her hands simply relaxing and letting the lacing of her handle slip past her fingertips.
As Gouka leaps, Kageru takes a slightly different approach to evasion. In an instant there's a step back and a pivot on the ball of her foot. She pushes herself forward and down in a perfect display of acrobatic prowess. The same instant seems to find her hands on the ground and her feet kicking above her in a cartwheel covering a short distance. The momentum only builds as her feet flip around and move down to meet the ground, but they're there for only a blink as her body follows through with the motion. Her hands touch down once more and her arms push hard against the ground, not pushing herself up with a leap but with a graceful, and rather beautiful, handspring. The single motion sets her on a linear path away from the explosion, which is fortunate as it explodes. She'd cleared almost as much distance as Gouka, but even that, it seemed, would not be quite enough. For all her acrobatic prowess, for all her speed and cunning, Kageru was still limited in just how far she could push her small body. So the explosion would have to push it the rest of the way.
From a distance the forest seems tranquil, the sudden melee had produced no real screams only a solitary whoop of aggression which lead to another momentary silence. The old growth trees towered high, but beneath their dense canopy would come a sudden brilliant flash of fire and a earth shaking crash of sound and force. Up close the scene was much worse as the clone popped and the explosive notes transformed into a mass of swirling smoke and searing embers. The shock-wave struck Kageru even as the smoke and fire engulfed her, however she remained within the burning explosion for only a moment. The sheer kinetic force of the blast pushes on her already moving body, not destroying it but drop kicking her body like a limp rag doll. All grace vanishes as she soars forward at flight speed, a trail of smoke billowing out behind her like jet exhaust. Flames and cinders lick at the fringes of her clothing as she streaks like some burning out meteorite, until only moments later when pliable flesh meets dirt and leaf litter. Earth flies up all around her as she forces dirt apart, her body digging a line through the earth like a plow through a field. She slides about 30 feet before she finally stops, the gracious trunk of a wide tree being kind enough to block her path and bounce her back into trench she'd dug. She lands on her head, or rather her shoulders, her feet up in the air and legs bent in a rather awkward, uncomfortable, but amusing sort of angle.
There she finally falls motionless for the moment, dazed, silent, and unarmed. It was not a pretty picture, but she seemed to have survived the worst of it. Her beautiful hair had been singed at some ends, her expensive finery had been scorched, and worse her sword had been flung into parts unknown. She dare not move to glance over, but she had little doubt that Gouka had left the wounded genin to die in that gruesome blast. The puff of smoke the other Konoha ninja had employed may well have saved his life, but she had not had time to track his escape path while blazing for her own. Situated up on her shoulders with her legs in the air was rather ungraceful, so slowly she allows her body to sink fully downwards, until she is just lying there. She sighs with a mix of pain and relief, though she doesn't speak a word. Slowly she takes stock of her aching body and begins to get her legs beneath her.

| As he predicted, the man reacted flawlessly to Shiro's attack, kicking off his downed teammate, forcing his face into the dirt. A mild annoyance honestly, after the earlier assault. A mouthful of dirt and bruised nose would be the least of their worries at this point. So, following through his own movements, Shiro shifted his weight to throw his body to the ground as fast as possible. Pulling his leg close so he'd land on his feet once his spin was completed, he chucked his smoke bomb at the ground. Immediately the small ball exploded in a thick dark cloud and he landed with a dull thump. His own vision gone, his body moved to his memory, left hand grabbing forward and feeling the cloth of Makoto's kimono, he gripped hard and lifted the genin. He could already feel the effects of his jutsu wearing off, his muscles beginning to relax. He had just enough power left in him to kick off and back towards the treeline.
It was not a moment too soon, for just as he kicked off, a mighty explosion rocked the battlefield. Intense heat and flames blasted through Shiro's cloud, propelling him, Makoto and his cover away. It took a mighty effort out of Shiro to suppress a cry of surprise and pain as he felt his skin burn. Landing on the ground, he stumbled forward as Makoto fell limp before him. Still veiled behind the remains of the smoke bomb, much thinner now, but still enough to provide partial cover he could only see a vague silhouette of his partner lying on the ground. His ears ringing from the explosion nearly muting the world around him, but he couldn't stop. Not now, his life and Makoto's hung in the balance. Following through on his momentum, he regained his footing and lept forward, grabbing Makoto once more by his kimono and dashing as fast as he could into the trees, taking cover immediately in the thickest amount of brush he could find that was close enough. Almost immediately he found a bush near a fairly large tree and ducked behind it, pulling Makoto enough to hide him behind the bush while he used the tree as cover.
Risking a peek back, he could see his smoke quickly clearing, now little more than haze, just enough to obscure figures at this distance. He looked down to his partner. "Hey" he whispered "I know you're hurt, but this is no time to lay down". When he was answered only by silence, he reached out and shook Makoto. Stillness. He shook him again, causing Makoto to roll over, his face blank, eyes staring skyward but seeing nothing. Shiro's heart wretched at the sight. When did it happen? How!? Why!?! Blinking back the tears that began to well in his eyes, he slapped his cheeks hard, leaving red welts shaped to his palms. These questions didn't matter now. Makoto was gone, he was the only one left. The mission was a failure but not all was lost yet. He still lived and still held the objective.
He quickly began a slew of hand signs and in a small puff of smoke, he found himself staring at an exact clone of himself. But he didn't stop there, for the moment the first jutsu was completed, he was already halfway through the second and before the smoke from the clone's creation was gone another puff and Shiro was gone. In his place, a small brush now sat. Cloaked in shade, Shiro made extra care to mimic the most subtle movements of the wind rustling any leaves around him.
With the transformation finished, the clone bolted away, heading through the trees in a manner to seem as though he were trying to hide while desperately fleeing. From the distance, as well as the mild ringing still in his ears, it would be extremely difficult for the enemies to notice the clone made no sounds as it ran. Not until they got close that was, and by then Shiro would already be running deeper into the woods, there was another road a short ways east of here, he would head that way and hopefully flag down some assistance. If not, he would move as fast as he could back to Konoha, to safety. To home.

| The explosion, while by no means insignificant, was not nearly as destructive as Gouka had the supplies to have made it. Combined with the distance he'd already managed, his continuing momentum, and the protective properties of his jacket, Gouka wasn't much more than jostled by the explosion, tumbling another few meters before getting his feet under him, shaking off the phantom sensation of a broken ankle. Equally, he ignored one of the clone's last memories; Kageru, blood dripping down her face, solemnly proclaiming to his clone "You're a monster." Even as laughable as the source was, he didn't have time to dwell on the truth of her words. Twisting around, his hair ruffled and slightly singed at the barest tips, Gouka peered through his mask, making out the faintest traces of a thicker smoke that did not have any place in the explosive after-math. The traces of a smokebomb, cast by the Konoha ninja, most likely. A decision came to Gouka at this point; chase down the Akimichi and finish his mission, or deal with the seemingly traitorous Kageru. He didn't hesitate, darting across the clearing for the treeline, making for the large hole undoubtedly created by the Akimichi's passage. If he was lucky, the explosion had incapacitated or at least dazed Kageru. If not... Grimly gripping his knives, Gouka determined to deal with the traitor if and when the problem arose. For now, the mission took precedence. Darting into the treeline, Gouka glanced quickly around. Spotting movement, he spotted the rapidly moving, poorly hidden form of the Akimichi. On the ground, by a rather large bush, was the corpse of the shinobi Gouka's split second decision had created, seemingly left behind. Muscles tensing up as he prepared to take pursuit, he paused, however, as the sight fully began to register. The Akimichi was making a good pace, trying to use the trees and foliage for cover... Yet, it was clear he did not possess any true stealth skills. And even if Gouka's ears were not still rining from the explosion, he doubted he'd have heard the retreating figure anyway, as despite their bulk and speed of egress, not a single branch or bush was disturbed by their passage. 'An academy clone.' Gouka thought, turning and carefully surveying the area. Gouka, the corpse, and the bush. Gouka cocked his head, waiting as the ringing faded from his ears, ever on the alert. Soon, all Gouka could hear was the quiet of the forest, a gentle breeze rustling through the bushes... Or perhaps, the scared, tired breathing of a lone, outmatched ninja. Gouka stepped carefully towards the corpse, keeping on the opposite side of it from the bush. That said, he still kept his senses on the alert, wary that his suspicions were wrong. He looked down at the body before him, really looked for the first time. He would not flinch away from the cost of his rashness, the consequences of his actions. No blood was visible; all of it would have been on his back. If not for the stillness of his chest and the blank, vacant emptiness to his eyes, he might simply have been sleeping. Looking over the clouded onyx orbs, the dark hair, the weapons poking out, it struck Gouka that the he and the boy could have been brothers, for all they looked alike, for all their apparently similar skill sets. Kneeling down to one knee, Gouka carefully reached out a gloved hand, setting them across the boy's face and sliding his sightless eyes shut for the final time. His masked visage wouldn't have betrayed it, but their was a regretful cast to his face as he did the final, respectful action. '... You may rightly call me a monster, Kageru, but I am KYOBU. I will be whatever sort of monster my duty, my village, requires me to be.' He had to; his duty and his loyalty were all he had left. Gouka spoke up now, still knelt down, knowing that even if the bush was not the hiding place of the other nin, he doubted the young shinobi would just leave behind his comrade's body. Konoha ninja were naive like that. Naive, and yet Gouka couldn't help but envy them for it. To have the luxury of putting comrades above the mission... "... Your comrade is dead, Akimichi. You are not nearly fast enough to escape, not skilled enough to win this fight. Give up the package. Live to see your friend get a proper burial. Live to see your mother and father again."(OOC: 7am as I finish writing this. If yall got a problem with the particulars of this post, do tell me e_e)

Name: Custom Mask Rank: C Type: Armor Appearance: A fire-hardened porcelain mask, based off the type typically worn by KYOBU operatives, though with a more practical design. Instead of a protruding animal snout, the mask is designed to lie flat across the face. A few stylized designs mar the pure white of the mask, a purple lightning bolt crossing the right eye, the mouth appearing as a thin red-slit; despite the apparent solidness of the slit, it is in fact a breathing hole. The two eye holes, each designed larger than the eye to limit the hindrance on peripheral vision, are inset with glass lenses. Within the mask, across the mouth slit, a fine mesh-weave is installed, red to match the mouth slit, tight against the inside of the mask. Quantity: 1 Storage: Worn Special Abilities: The tight fit of the mask ensures it is almost entirely air-tight, the fine mesh over the mouth-slit being capable of filtering out smoke and C-rank airborne poisons. The glass lenses over the eye-holes are in fact fast-reacting transitive lenses; essentially, they respond to changes in light, darkening of clearing the lenses to better allow the wearer in both day and night-time, and protecting them from the blinding effects of flashbang-like techniques.

| It had been a dreadful day, one filled with more emotion than Kageru had cared to admit. She was drained, both physically and emotionaly, the explosion doing its fair share in sapping her stamina. Though she was charred, and pretty sore all over, she had at least survived her partner's over reaction to her simple assault of a shadow clone. She spends just a few moments pondering that reaction to her attack. In one deft move he'd ended the life of the unfortunate Konohagakure shinobi, and even come close to dealing some serious damage to herself. Why would a person see these as acceptable options in a scene which should have had no blood shed at all? The plan had been simple, trick, lure them in, and confront them. They would have handed over the prize with no fight, she was sure, however Gouka had opted for a sudden and grevious strike against the younger opponent. The action had driven her beyond her breaking point, to much of her own family's methods and morals were visible in her partner. Kageru did not care for that one bit.
Reluctantly she rises, her eyes closed for a brief moment as her right hand moves up to her left shoulder. Pain there, her left arm hanging limp, but it didn't seem dislocated. It was just bruised, though the pain was enough to remind her she'd just narrowly escaped much worse injury. She was alone in her little section of forest, and after a moment of concentration she set off away from the charred spot with splintered trees, and the trench her body had dug. She had to find her sword. Loosing her sword would mean loosing her life, and she couldn't abide that. The blade had been crafted by her grandfather's grandfather, and had been handed down through the generations for decades. The Shigumo did not look kindly upon those who were not skilled enough to protect their own possessions. It was gone, for now, but not lost. The seal she'd placed on the handle was emitting a steady flow of her own chakra, and she was able to sense that special signature. She turns towards the east and begins to limp slowly off in the direction of her sword.
(sorry for the length, but she's just walking. Sorry for the delay, but I'm just working. -.-) |

| It felt like an eternity passed by, probably the fifth eternity or so since this whole mission went down the toilet merely seconds ago. It was almost impossible to grasp that everything that transpired up to this point had been less than a minute. A minute that continued and would haunt Shiro's dreams for a lifetime, assuming his life would continue beyond the next minute.
Hidden by his chakra, he watched as the masked man leapt in front of him, glancing to the corpse of Makoto, his victim, and back towards Shiro's escaping clone. The man braced himself for a moment, Shiro's heart raced a beat as it appeared he would take the bait. But when the man straighted his posture, he swore his heart dropped into the soft earth beneath him. A light breeze wafted through the trees, and Shiro adjusted his illusion to fit the moments of the plants around him. Right now his thin layer of chakra was the only thing between him and certain death.
The man then turned and walked over to Makoto's corpse, kneeling down he stretched out his hand and closed the former genin's eyes. In his mind, Shiro ran several scenarios to escape. Perhaps he could risk a substitution jutsu, drop the bag and blow the tags in it. Using the confusion to throw the box away. It would deny him his objective yes, but the man would likely retaliate and kill him. With his speed he'd likely outrun anyone coming to investigate and perchance find the box anyway. He could try sitting in wait and hopefully the man would move on, but that was unlikely. Shiro's chakra would likely give out before the man's will, but would his temper last that long?
"... Your comrade is dead, Akimichi. You are not nearly fast enough to escape, not skilled enough to win this fight. Give up the package. Live to see your friend get a proper burial. Live to see your mother and father again." Gritting his teeth and fighting back the urge to cry out and attack, Shiro remained silent. The man was right. Shiro was completely helpless. The mission was lost, the best he could do was take the man's offer and pray he followed his word. To trust the word of an enemy, and to lose in such a humiliating manner, Kuro must be spinning in his grave.
Watching the man in silence, there was a sudden calmness in Shiro. And in that instant, he knew it was over. He no longer had any will to fight, it would be a pointless and fatal gesture. His anger had not subsided, he still felt hatred toward the man, but it was a calm flame as opposed to a searing bonfire. He would give up the box and his mission. Take Makoto home and suffer whatever punishment was to come. But he would leave his mark on this man, even if temporary, in memory to Makoto. He shifted himself slightly, making himself more upright but remaining in the confines of his illusion. He was sure to move as slowly and quietly as possible, the man would instantly notice any unnatural sound.
Tightening his right hand into a fist, he felt his nails dig into his skin. Inside his arm chakra surged into his muscles and bones. This man knew his clan in his mind, but now he would teach his body the name Akimichi. With one final defiant cry he thrust forth with a straight jab. His fist and arm surging with power as it's size increased exponentially in a moment, reaching five times it's normal size. With the man so close, even with his speed a full dodge would be nigh impossible. At least, that's what Shiro prayed for.
Immediately after his attack, even if the man somehow completely avoided his attack, Shiro swung his bag over his shoulder, retracting and shrinking his arm back to normal and reaching inside. Pulling out the bronze box and throwing it forwards. "FINE!" He exclaimed "TAKE IT".
Swinging the bag over his shoulder with his left hand, Shiro reached down with his right and grabbed Makoto's kimono. Leaping off towards the road as fast as his legs would carry him he swung Makoto's remains over his shoulder and began sprinting down the road. Back to Konoha, back home with heavy heart.
The minutes on the road were painful to Shiro, the weight on his back was heavier than just a corpse. A failed mission and a fallen comrade, he would return disgraced and he could not blame anyone. He had failed. He failed the village, he failed himself and worst of all he failed Makoto. His head constantly jerked violently to the side to peer over his shoulder, each time he feared he'd come face to face with the masked man determined to finish the job. Afterwards he would look to Makoto, eyes shut and eerily peaceful. It was a punch to his stomach every time he saw that face and the visible, bleeding dagger wounds. Tears began streaming down Shiro's face, tears he could now allow, tears he could not hold back. Seemingly out of danger now, the force of the situation was dawning on him now. His breathing quickly became panting sobs as his face was uncontrollably distorted in pain.
Then a miracle happened. Just by his right ear, where Makoto's head now dangled, he heard it, so slight he could have imagined it. A cough. He felt spittle hit his cheek and he turned to Makoto's face, his eyelids twitching slightly and tried to open. They were barely able to move, but Shiro was able to see the spark of life underneath them. "Makoto!!" He cried out "Hang in there! We'll be home soon! I'm going straight to the Hospital now!!". This mission wasn't a complete failure, not yet. He could still save Makoto! With that thought and nothing else in his mind, Shiro ran faster than he ever had before, without pause or rest until he made it through the gates of Konoha and the doors of the Hospital.

"Double Quotes Bold" = Gouka speaking 'Single Quotes Bold Italic' = Gouka thinking
"Double Quotes Bold Strike" = Quoting another PC's words "Double Quote Bold Underline" = NPC speaking
Gouka considered himself a logical individual. He took no pride in it, as it was a cold, cruel logic that lead him to do cold, cruel things. Others might have called it outright cruelty and heartlessness, and while he did not think they were technically wrong, he felt is was more accurate to simply call it "Pragmatism." Following in the vein of logic, he felt he'd been as merciful as the situation had allowed him to be. Which is to say, he'd given one young ninja a painless death, and offered the other his life in exchange for the mission objective. He'd still been quite cold about it, and the young, dark-haired boy would likely haunt his memories, but he still believe he'd done as well as he could. It wouldn't help him sleep any better, but it was what it was. Gouka considered himself a logical individual, and had presume the Akimichi would see the logic as well. He did, fortunately. Unfortunately, he was also a Konoha Akimichi mourning the loss of a comrade. Gouka never did well with emotional logic. The Akimichi let loose a defiant cry as the transformation dropped. Under normal circumstances, this would only have given himself away. Under normal circumstances, one does not have the luxury of a Transform to hide the hand-seals, no the luxury of being only a little more than the width of a corpse away from their target. As it were, when the Akimichi's arm ballooned to five times in size. From this distance, Gouka just managed to widen his eyes and surprised, and barely managed to cross his arms in front of him to block as the massive limb slammed into him. If nothing else, this prevented the blow from shattering his mask as he was knocked back, sailing through the air. With little control over his trajectory, Gouka could only brace himself as he slammed against a tree, the breath leaving his lungs in an explosive gasp. He landed in something of a heap, sitting at the base of the tree, wheezing for air and trying to assess whether that cracking sound had been ribs or tree bark. 'And that's where mercy gets me.' Gouka thought sourly. Under normal circumstances, he would have fought through the pain, readying himself for an assault, or to counter attack. His flight through the air had done nothing to diminish his perceptive ability, though; on his flight, he'd been able to clearly see the Akimichi tossing the package like a brick, grabbing up his fallen comrade, and running like merry hell. Gouka sat against the tree, feeling sore, pondering for a moment before rising to his feet, a little stiff, ribs and back bruised at the very least, shaking the numbness out of his arms. With his speed, he could certainly chase down the Akimichi and show him a few painful lessons in "respect." However, Gouka would not let his annoyance cloud his judgement; the Akimichi's emotional gesture should have been expected, and killing him was not Gouka's objective. Facing through the direction of the Akimichi's throw, Gouka set out to find what was; the package. Moving unhurriedly through the trees and brush, it did not take Gouka very long to find the heavy, bronze box; while it'd flown a good ten metres, it had left plenty of broken branches and the like for a followable trail. Gouka considered the package, hefting it up in his arms. It was not particularly large, nor particularly heavy. Still, it would be bulky to carry, and Gouka simply did not have a large enough bag for it. He supposed he could simply use up some rope to tie the thing on... With that thought in mind, Gouka struck upon an idea; setting the box down, he drew up his knife, making a small incision across his thumb. Forming the seals, he slammed his hand against the ground, chakra flaring. "Kuchiyose no jutsu." With a burst of chakra and smoke, out popped Sutorapiu the mongoose, Suto for short. The mongoose took a moment to stretch, yawning to reveal pearly fangs before looking at his summoner. "Been a while, chief. What's up?" He took a sniff, nose scrunching up. "I smell blood, but you don't appear to be fighting." He blinked as he took apparent notice of Gouka's mask. "And while I'm at it, what am I callin' ya while on duty?"Gouka blinked at the barrage; he'd forgotten that Suto was a friendly, fairly easy going mongoose, as far as summons went. "All the mess-work is finished, and Jestre. Just courier service now." Gouka indicated the package. "It's a little too unwieldy for me to carry, and besides, if you have it and more trouble arises, you can take it with you back to... Wherever summons come from." Gouka supplied, lacking sufficient knowledge of the subject. If Suto was displeased with pack-animal work, it didn't show. "Alright then, Jestre. Slap it on, and we'll get this show on the road." The summoned creature patiently sat in place as Gouka knelt down, taking some rope from his kit and using it to secure the bronze box on the mongoose's back. Suto was large enough to carry it without trouble, and as Gouka said, if more trouble arose, he could take it to the Summon realm with him, for Gouka to summon again later. Gouka sighed as he stood back up, package secured and bones still sore from the Akimichi's final attack. One problem solved, one problem left to be taken care of. Gouka turned around, heading back to the site of the ambush, Suto silently following in the his summoner's wake, a palatable, chill aura of anger finally surfacing now that there was time for it. 'I hope you have a damned good reason I don't have to execute you for treason, Kageru.'

Name: Sutoraipu (Suto for short.) Rank: C Appearance: Suto is a bit of an oddity for his particular species of mongoose, the narrow-striped mongoose. While most of his kind do have stripes, the norm is for said stripes to run down along their bodies, parallel with their spine. In Suto's case however, they flow in quite a different direction, instead running horizontally across his back. He has charcoal gray fur all across his body, his stripes being a near pitch-black, lightening to a more brownish tan across his under belly.
Another oddity that sets Suto apart from his kindred is that, again for his species of mongoose, he is rather large for his kind; topping out at two feet long, three feet including his tail, and measuring seven inches at the shoulder. There is some speculation that Suto may have the faintest traces of Ichneumon in his blood, resulting in his comparatively large size. He has small, round ears, eyes the color of amber, and sharp, pitch-black claws. Other than his unusual size, and the unusual placing ofhis stripes, there is little to set Suto apart from his brethren physically. Despite his small size for a summon, he is lithe and agile, using both his natural agility and small size to prevent a low-profile target.
Personality: What truly sets Suto apart from his brethren his personality. While most mongoose tend to be agressive, especially towards snakes, Suto is a rather easy, comparatively friendly, and pragmatic mongoose. He sees no point in going out of his way to find trouble, and will only resort to a fight if no other options presents itself. He prefers to work with his summoner, rather than forcing them to prove themself, or subjugating himself to them. To him, he and his summoner should respect each other above all else.
That said, when it does come down to a fight, Suto is viciously pragmatic. He is not above maiming to give himself a better opportunity for a lethal blow, but at the same time, he does not seek to prolong suffering, ending the fight as quickly as possible. His fighting style tends to rely heavily on hit-and-run tactics against larger opponents, otherwise opting to be as stealthy as possible and provide combative support to his summoner, such as a distracting attack or a covering smokescreen. In his personal time, his favorite food is fish, his favorite activity to simply laze about in a warm sunbeam. His only true dislike is being mistaken for a pet, though he does not mind the occasional petting if he chooses to allow it.

| A new day in her mind, a new scene in the forest. Kageru paced for several long moments, her strides short and pace slow and still a lingering haze clouded her mind. She was not without reason, not without rational though, and that was truly the source of her problem. All the things she'd done, she had once told herself, were for the good of her nation. Perhaps this was true but all to suddenly the illusion of personal innocence was burned off like a morning fog in the rising sun. So many she had slaughtered, a pile of bodies beyond counting, only because they had never proven worthy of being counted. Life, as taught to her growing up, was completely without worth, without meaning, without any value which made it even an after thought in the personal story of an individual shinobi. She had not fully bought into this mentality, but all to often she'd slain perfect strangers who had opposed her, and not thought twice about the ramifications of her own actions. She'd lived on blissfully ignorant of the monster which had grown inside of her. Why now, then, was she suddenly stricken with eyes forced to blatantly open?
The patch of trees her sword had relocated itself too was in almost all ways identical to the patch now blasted and burnt and spattered with the blood of the fallen. It was pristine and silent, inhabited by silent rodents living off the trees seeds, and hiding among the thick old growth branches. While she'd made no notice of the local fauna, the previous simple fact was emphasized by the state her katana was found in. The blade had met wood and sunk through the tough but tender grain half way up the blade, though it had met a second of opposition in its passing. The body of a small grey squirrel was still skewered by the slender length of gently curved steel, a pool of steadily drying blood leaking down the branch and dripping blackish/red down to the ground below. The sight drew a sigh from Kageru's lips and a brief shake of her head. Who's fault had this death been? It was just an animal, but was that rational enough to just write such a killing off as unimportant? She would have said yes previous to this day, and that single thought stood out as reason enough not to let it go.
So who was to blame, then? Her sword had gotten here by means of an explosion, one perpetrated by Gouka, the chuunin leader of this mission. Sure it could be reasoned that it was his fault, but it was her own fault the sword had been released. Still, this was not an outcome she could have foreseen, who would think to predict where an innocent squirrel might be located at a single given moment in time? So who? Was it the sword itself, or the adults who had placed it within the hands of a child? Was it simply the squirrel's fault; a case of bad luck, or perhaps karma? There was a killing here, but fault could not be determined with just an initial inspection. Silently the girl reaches out and slips her fingers around the handle of the sword. A soft tug and gentle rock side to side sees the blade freed from both flesh and wood. The sunlight filtering through the canopy of leaves above catches her blade in a flash, the steel turning white all over except for where the rodent's blood remains. She stares at it for a moment and then draws the blade down, carefully wiping the blood off of her blade on the ornate silk sleeves covering her arms. They were already singed and blackened, a little blood wouldn't make the tailor's job any more difficult.
She cleans her blade without comment, without sound, slowly returning to the more passionless and silent state most had observed her in through every moment of her waking life. She hefts the blade up gently once it's polished and lets it catch the light once more. It was such a magnificent tool, one of perfect construction. The few chips the cutting edge had did nothing to reduce its effectiveness and only gave it the antique look it deserved. The sword was older than Kageru, older than even her own parents, but it was her's until the day someone managed to defeat her, and end her life. With a gentle swing she slices downwards and listens to the clean hiss of steel cutting through air. Another slash and in the blink of an eye the sword finds its home. Her handling of the blade was adept enough that drawing the blade and re-sheathing it, while not in the same action, were each independently almost impossible to follow by anyone but the most alert of observers. Even then they seemed little more than a blur of perfectly executed muscle memory.
What was left to do? The mission was over, a success as well but that was never a question of if. Now it remained a question of what to do about home? Her own partner was a monster, her leaders were no doubt the same. They'd sent her to murder enemies much weaker than herself, and sent to do so with help stronger than herself. They'd send her to kill again, there was little doubt, but could she manage to do so? She remains standing there for now, ever still and ever silent, simply pondering the overall message her mind was trying to convey to her conscious being. Her path through the forest was a simple thing for a talented tracker to follow, a clear line of disturbed leaves and broken twigs the likes of which even a novice genin could follow.

Gouka stalked through the forest, making his way back to the epicenter. His summoned companion, Suto the mongoose, followed quietly along, sensing his summoner "Jestre" was in the beginning of a foul mood, and likely not in a talkative mood. Not that a mission was the time and place to be talkative anyway. The package was secured and strapped to his summon's back, but he still had the matter of his mission partner to deal with. For whatever her reasons, Kageru had attacked a superior officer in the midst of an extremely delicate interception mission, an act that had nearly allowed the target to escape with the mission objective. Even if her attack had been directed at his clone, one way or another, this was an issue. He made his way to the original clearing, ignoring the scorched earth and flecks of blood as he looked around, trying to find the path of what he'd only loosely call his "teammate." It did not take long for him to find the trail of of broken branches and torn leaves; clearly, Kageru had made no effort to hide her trail. Gouka may have had a keen eye, but he was no tracker nin, so he gave thanks for the small mercies. Not that he was much pleased anyway; it was a sticky situation Kageru had landed herself in, and one Gouka was not happy to be the one dealing with. Following along the trail, Gouka quickly came upon his comrade. She was standing perfectly motionless and quiet in a small clearing removed from the scene of the fight, a small dead squirrel nearby. Gouka's hand flickered, waving for Suto to hang back, as he continued striding forward. He made no overt effort to hide his presence, either stalking around to stand in front of her, or holding in place if he saw her turn to face him. The cold, white mask he wore did not betray the expression of cold anger on his face as his mouth opened to begin a cold, quiet tirade, when the echo of a memory stopped him in his tracks. "You're a monster."Kageru would not see as Gouka's mouth quietly closed, his fingers tapping a beat on the hilts of his sheathed daggers as he considered her from behind his mask. Only now, that the heat of the moment and the rustle and bustle of combat had passed, did Gouka truly have the time to consider the little speech that had precluded Kageru's attack. Talk of a broken world and a broken system, where mere children were sent to their deaths. Gouka hazarded to guess it would take keener minds than his to truly pick apart Kageru's mind, but he could figure well enough to believe Kageru was "broken" in some way, shape or form. Gouka carefully considered his options. He was faster, and had Suto on his side, but he knew from his ill-fated spar that the genin before him was no slouch in speed either, with more than a few tricks up her sleeve. Compounding the issue was the simple fact that his recent exertions had lowered his chakra reserves enough that he was likely back on equal ground with the genin in that regard. If it came to a fight, he was not very hopeful of his chances of winning without garnering some sort of serious injury. As he stared at the genin, a plan began to form within his mind. Perhaps Kageru would prove a fair sight more logical than the Akimichi. "You stand before a crossroads." He spoke, his voice slightly muffled by his mask, doing his level best to keep a calm, nonthreatening tone. Which is not to say he did not firmly grip his daggers, ready to draw them on a moment's notice. "Down one path, you are a traitor to Kumo, having attacked a superior officer in the middle of a clandestine mission, putting the objective at risk." He paused for a moment, letting the gravity of the situation sink in. "It becomes my duty to either kill or capture you, destroy or discard all your equipment, and bring you back to Kumo to face treason charges. You would likely be executed." Gouka paused again, giving the genin before him time to assimilate the information, and perhaps observe that Gouka had not yet made any overtly threatening movements. He continued on. "Down the other path, you are a young woman broken and twisted by the strain of a ninja's life, by the vileness of the evils, both necessary and unnecessary, our world forces upon us. You keep all your weapons and equipment, but consent to being bound, and are lead back to Kumo. There may be a trial, but at worst, you will be put on leave from active, out-of-village duty, pending a psychological evaluation." Gouka leaned back on one foot, his hands placed on his daggers. It seemed such a casual pose, but in truth, it simply put Gouka in a better position to back-flip away from a possible assault, potentially putting a knifed-boot into Kageru if she did indeed attack. "Choose wisely." SCs

| Kageru remains where she is, her right hand resting idly on the handle of her katana, her eyes mostly focused on the ground in front of her. She doesn't need to see Gouka to address him, she doesn't need to look up to be prepared to defend herself. Her body remains motionless, only her lips move as quiet words slip past in response. "How foolish. How short sighted. How narrow the mind of a monster is. Force and Destruction, threats and a nervous sense of security." she mutters, clearly something far from a direct answer. She squeezes the handle of her katana slightly tighter in anticipation of an attack, her mind already contemplating her defense. If she was close to the monster, she knew her words would be seen as an affront to sensibilities, perhaps enough so to draw an attack. "A monster knows but one thing. Self preservation at the cost of all around them. This is why your mind could come up with only two reasonable options, when in fact the forest around us is painted with a thousand possibilities. Give up the conditioning which has made you a monster. Retire your blade, cease this sorrowful existence. If you somehow believe I will simply travel with you while unarmed, you are twice the fool you think I am. Unlike you, I see many options, many possibilities rooted in this moment in time, but reaching out into the unseen shadows of the future. Slay me, and give in to your desire for blood. Perhaps open your eyes to the obvious truth of the world, these are all viable options.."
"But do not think it ends there. No, those are but many of a very long list of possibilities. Live up to your narrow mind and slay me, that is another. Kill yourself and know peace; another option. I could slay you and preserve your honor, but enough blood has stained by blade for one life time. I prefer this option to all others, so hear my words. Turn now, and leave this place. Take your precious box, take your thirst for battle, and take your paranoia away from this forest. Bring it back to Kumogakure and present your trophey to the monsters who control you. Let them applaud you, and fill their ears with the vile things you think I have done. I will allow you a head start, and shall return home on my own. When I arrive, have guards or kage awaiting me, I care not. I have done nothing worthy of shame, nor anything I should not have done. I will face them without fear, and tell them exactly of what events transpired beneath these leaves. Know this, however, and listen well. I am not traveling back with you. Your skin will only touch my blade, when blood is fast to follow. I have no desire to fight you.. so simply leave me be. Turn away and run home, so you can spread your tale, before I am able to spread my own."
The words fall silent there, another lengthy speech which does much to prove she is capable of speaking more than 10 words per hour. Still, it does nothing to sooth her dark mood. She shakes her head softly after speaking and begins to move. "regardless of your choice, I will follow my own path from here." she notes much quieter as she begins to walk away. Her pace is calm and measured, slow steps taken with care as her ears remain well alert to any sound of movement behind her. She does not look back, nor does she look up. She simply walks off as calmly as though she were moving through quiet midnight alleys closer to home. While her ever passive demeanor has once more settled over her body, the emotion in her voice has bled out as quickly as a Konoha genin. It's cold once more, cold and quiet, calculated in each word and neither happy, nor sad. The expression on her face was one of utter blankness, the emptiness in her abyssal eyes more obvious than ever before. For one calling another monster, she held the true exterior of such a beast with such practiced perfection, it might have been hard to wonder where such words ever sprang from in the first place. Such thoughts didn't matter, however, as she was making her exit. Without following she would soon be out of sight, and out of mind. |

"Double Quotes Bold" = Gouka speaking 'Single Quotes Bold Italic' = Gouka thinking
"Double Quotes Bold Strike" = Quoting another PC's words "Double Quote Bold Underline" = NPC speaking
It was both fortunate and unfortunate that Gouka wore a mask. The pristine, white ceramic of it made it easy to conceal Gouka's expression. It was practical to boot, offering him protection from smoke, some airborne poisons, and flash-bangs. The fortunate part was that he did not have to waste any effort keeping his emotions hidden. The unfortunate part was that Kageru might have known better to silence herself if she could have seen the deep, cold, glacial rage that was fixing itself upon Gouka's visage. The audacity of the kunoichi before him was beyond anything he had the sufficient capacity to express his outrage for. A monster, was he? A cretin thing who only desired to slake his thirst for the blood of innocents, to see pale flesh sundered before his steel as he carved a bloody, joyous path through his enemies? Gouka would never deny he was monstrous, but he was a monster of necessity. He did not enjoy killing. But if his village demanded he wade through a river of blood to accomplish his duty, he would do it. That is what it means to be an agent, a tool of the will of Kumo. That is what it means to be KYOBU. And this girl before him was treating him as little more than a rabid dog. Gouka's hand clenched on his dagger with a knuckle-bone white grip, giving a single imperceptible quiver, as the girl before him casually offered that he could just kill himself. How casually she talked about killing him, and then discarded the notion as if she were doing him a great favor. The final nail in her coffin, was the arrogance with which she offered to give him a head-start back to the village, her sheer audacity to believe she could just send him away like an errant child, and make her own path to the village, in her own time. She even turned her back on him completely, as if there was nothing else he could do about it; the adult had spoken, and now the child was supposed to do as he was told. She had assaulted a superior during a war-time mission, worth a court-martial in and of itself. She had risked the mission objective, nearly giving the Konoha nin time to escape. And when he had offered her mercy, as much mercy as her actions and his duty allowed him, she had spat in his face, told him he was better off dead, and treated him as if he only lived and breathed at her beckon and desire. She had completely exhausted whatever mercy was left in Gouka. The final nail was in place, the coffin was prepared. All that was left was for the Reaper to collect his due. '... A monster, am I? So be it.'Gouka prided himself on his speed. Few could match it, really. That was fairly common knowledge to any who knew him, who had fought him. Speed alone was not what made him dangerous. What made him dangerous was how quietly he could utilize his speed, clearing meters at a time in a dead run that did not even produce the sound of crushed leaves. Few people who knew Gouka were aware of just how deathly quiet he could be when he so chose to; it was one of the things that had made him so perfectly suited for KYOBU work. And even if he never made an effort to be stealthy again, his KYOBU armor, designed and tailor for the purpose, would do the work for him. In the time it takes for Kageru to make her first step, Gouka has drawn his daggers, their oiled leather sheathes granting not even a whisper of drawn steel to reveal their unsheathing. By the time of her second step, he was sprinting across the clearing. No sound of crunching leaves or crushed grass, no overt noises of heavy breathing; as silent as the grave, and as imminent as well. He angled himself carefully for the side Kageru kept her sword sheathed on; even if she did somehow take note of Gouka's assault in time to react, it would make it that much more difficult for her to use the blade in defense. Turning her back on him had been a grave mistake, and Gouka intended to make it her last. Barring any other defenses, Gouka's dagger would be planted directly into her spine, at the small of her back. The wickedly sharp steel would slice through bone and cord with ease, leaving her a paralyzed cripple from the waste down, all but helpless. The damage would be further compounded by the fact he didn't intend to leave his dagger behind; as his momentum carried him forward, the blade would be jerk to the side and out with a vicious twist, insuring for a messy severance of her spine. And if he by some chance missed, if Kageru managed to avoid the blow, he would be carried beyond her, out of reach and ready to launch another assault. For that matter, Suto was on the field as well, and Gouka trusted the mongoose to be smart enough to keep himself a surprise, and only add his own help to the fray as needed. Takeshi Gouka was out for the fight. Jestre was in the ring now. SCs

Equipment
- Spoiler:
Name: KYOBU Mask & Uniform Rank: N/A. Type: Clothing. Appearance: The KYOBU wear porcelain animal masks in order to distinguish themselves from normal shinobi and to conceal their identities. They also have standard uniforms consisting of black and grey armour, metal arm guards and gloves, ninja sandals with spikes for travelling into mountainous regions, three ninja pouches on their back-waist and a signature spiral tattoo on their shoulder (left shoulder for male KYOBU members, and right shoulder for female members). Some KYOBU wear black cloaks over their standard uniforms, and squad leaders may wear white cloaks. Most KYOBU carry a sword, which is usually strapped to their backs. Special Abilities: Despite what special characteristics a member may possess, those who wear this uniform will be able to gain the Stealth SC in that thread. Jonin+ members who are in uniform may acquire the Advanced Stealth SC instead.
And while not particularly a special ability, the loop and clips allow for the daggers to be held in such a way that hand seals are possiblle without having to discard or sheathe the weapons.

| Narry a sound would be made as Gouka slipped up silently behind the slow moving genin. The only response to his blade was a sudden limpness in her body, a quick toppling forward into an immobile heap of useless flesh as a fountain of blood erupted around the sharp blade. With her spine severed there was little Kageru could do, and hardly even time to contemplate the truth of her own words. There were so many monsters in this world, but it did not matter now. As numb darkness enveloped her, Kageru would finally hold within her hands the single thing she had dreamed of since her childhood: peace. Peace would over take her, and without complaint she leaves the world, leaving behind only the empty shell of her body.

Gouka wrenched the blade out of her spine as the genin slumped to the forest floor, silently, without even a whimper of pain. Blood spurted freely from the gaping wound in her back now, staining her kimono beyond repair. She slumped to the floor, and Gouka merely stared at his blade, still suspended in the air precisely where it had entered her spine, the black steel stained bloody crimson. A single drop, a ruby bead of a jewel, dripped from the tip of the wicked cutting edge. With a twist of the wrist, he flicked the blood off the blade, adding another spatter to the ruined kimono. He knelt down to one knee, wiping the blade across the earth before sheathing it. Then, hand freed, he reached out, touching his hand to the prone kunoichi's neck. Nothing. Not a pulse, not a whisper of breath, not a hint of life. The violence with which his blade had severed her spine had probably inflicted shock too great for the system to overcome. Her death had likely been nearly instant. Possibly painless even. Still, Gouka breathed a heavy sigh, the anger he'd felt before bleeding and ebbing away. Kageru had not been wrong to call him a monster; wrong in her reasons perhaps, but not entirely wrong. He was not a craven monster of blood thirst and violence; he was a monster of necessity. A product of his generation. As Gouka contemplated, Suto, his summon, emerged from the bushes, the heavy bronze box strapped securely to his back. He watched in silence, looking back and forth between Gouka and the dead genin. "... Was that really necessary, Go... Jestre?" Gouka did not turn to face him as he replied, rising to stand again. "I gave her the chance for a peaceful resolution, Suto. She rejected it, threatened me, and gave me no reason to believe she actually intended to return to the village. And this was after trying to save an enemy, and putting the mission objective at risk. Traitors get what traitors deserve." He turned to face the summon now. Truth be told, he did regret that it had come to this, but he did not feel any sense of guilt; he had tried to be merciful. In the end, he had done what was necessary. The mongoose looked somewhat sad as he looked up at Gouka. "She wasn't much more than just a kid." Gouka slipped his jacket off, setting it to the side as he knelt beside the corpse again, turning Kageru onto her back. He spoke curtly. "The villages do not send children on these missions. They send soldiers." Suto spoke no more as Gouka rummaged through Kageru's gear. He eventually managed to procure eight exploding notes, along with twelve more once he unwrapped them from their various kunai and senbon. He tugged her quiver out from under her, searching through the arrows, finding several to be tightly wrapped with exploding notes. He unwrapped some of those as well, until he had an even pile of sixty exploding notes. Not bad. Almost enough to match his arsenal. 'Waste not, want not.' Gouka thought, charging thirty of the tags with his chakra. He considered the rest of her equipment, the retractable blades especially, discarding the thought as soon as it crossed his mind; he was not a corpse robber, and they would not fit around his wire rapplers anyway. Carefully arranging the corpse, he began slapping down the tags, spreading them evenly across her body. Grisly work nearly complete, he stood up, putting his jacket back on, the green side now flipped towards the inside now that the stealthy part of his mission was over. Suto continued to maintain silence as Gouka made his leave, keeping himself to a pace the mongoose could keep up with. A safe distance out, without looking back, Gouka's hands loosely formed the proper seal. The explosion of thirty tags going off was truly thunderous. There would be nothing left of the young genin's corpse, and all her equipment would, at best, be rendered scrap metal, and at worst, would be melted slag. The explosion would be the last sound beyond steady breathing as Gouka made his way back to Kumo, preparing his mission report in his mind. [Exit, End Topic] SCs
