| The Ultimate Conflict has begun ….
The official campaign setting for US, the Ultimate Conflict has officially begun. All members are expected to read the information and respond in the active threads for all four villages that will follow shortly. More details below
Part 1: Starfall
The world of Nin is a world of secrets shrouded by cloak of ever changing lies. Truth is fragmented and so often misunderstood. In this world of shadows and whispers sometime some secrets are lost that should have not been, forgotten where they should have been preserved, banished where they should have been confronted. One such thing was forgotten to the ages, to dusty tomes of history and ancient scrolls written in long dead languages. Such History became legend. Legend became myth. And for two and a half centuries the world slumbered unaware that legends have a foundation in truth and that in some cases the truth will win out. One such truth was returning and unbeknownst to the innocent slumbering masses would burn the world with its coming
Nearly 3 centuries ago the world believed that there existed, a god among men the one simply known as Redukko Sennin, the Sage of the 6th Paths. It was he who gifted the world with the power to manipulate the energy of life it’s self and harness it to create chakra. Many and myriad were his accomplishments but most forget his greatest deed, the defeat of the great beast Yoshimaru. To many this was simply a foot note in otherwise great life, a side feat of incomparable importance when compared to his role as the creator of Ninjutsu. Free of the great beast’s presence they cast aspersions’ on its strength, ignored its relevance, and derogated its very existence. It became footnote of irrelevance in a history dominated by Nin and their wars. The truth as all will soon learn is a far cry from the lies peddled by historians and priests. The Great Beast was not merely great; it was a god of nature itself, an immortal being of unbelievable power whose might eclipsed even the great sage’s. Imagine the 10 greatest Nin assembled in one place and triple their collective might and still they would be outshined by its power. Such a beast could not be killed, only delayed and unbeknownst to an ignorant world it’s time was running short. Using the greater part of his own life energy the Sage was barely able to seal it away into a dark crystal and send it into the stars where he hoped that its vast power could not reach them. However the Power of Yoshimaru knows no mortal limits and even the great sage could not contend with its will, there are none who can. Even as it was sent soaring into space it took a new path that would in time bring it full circle, returning to its home to wreck its terrible revenge
Three months ago a new star appeared in the heavens, green, menacing and perhaps most worryingly of all radiating unnatural power. As time went by the star came ever closer to the world that sought to be free of it, for the star as you might imagine was no star but the beast long ago banished returning from its exile. Throughout the Shinobi Nations people began noticing the change, a sickly green light coming closer and closer to their world. Some knew what it meant; others only knew that it foretold the return to dark times. Prophets railed in the streets and Seers claimed the end of world was nigh. Not all were fearful of this new presence for despite the unnatural feeling it evoked the power they felt being emitted from the crystal, so many miles away in space still was like nothing in existence. Whoever could tame such power would surely become a god among men and any village that could acquire it would rule all. The very thought of possessing such might had many people fixated and even as others slumbered uneasily they drew up their hungry plans to make its power their own.
……………………………Present Day……………………………… It was a quiet night, calm with a barely perceptible warm undercurrent in the air and not a cloud in the sky. It was a perfect night for star gazing and there was rumoured to be a meteor shower that could be visible across the entirety of the Shinobi nations, a rare event indeed and not one seen in living memory. The fact that the night was this clear and the stars could be seen that well was another treat, although some felt their spirits chill despite the joy of parting, as though they were not alone in there merry making, that something was out there watching them hungrily. Overlaying the anticipation was a palatable feeling of something wrong, like a slick of oil over water, dark and hinting at greater evil to come.
Everywhere across the Shinobi Nations, great and small, new and old, people had gathered to watch this once in a life time event, from climbing the trees within Konoha’s infamous forest of death, to ascending the fabled topless towers of Kumo to take in the sights. The search for the best viewing spot had begun long before dusk had settled upon the land, even though according to the latest measurements the shower wasn’t scheduled to start until nearly midnight. Everyone had thought it would be a good time, a time of celebration, full of romance and fun filled activities. But as night settled, and the sun finally disappeared, a sickly green glow appeared over the horizon spreading out like a virus to sheath the sky like a coating of the vilest poison. It had been there for months, slowly getting larger, but no one had thought anything about it until now.
The closer it got, the brighter the colour glowed, the centre turning from green to white, showing that it wasn’t just a fire or something on the horizon, but an asteroid, one of unimaginable power. The sky, green and eerie, seemed to boil like a witch’s pot and the world shock with it. Ripples seemed to spread through the land causing buildings to tremor, towers to collapse and statutes to shatter leaving only death and destruction in their wake. Despite the power it emanated, the colour drove fear into people’s hearts, causing children to shriek in fear, women to weep inconsolably and men to fall to their knees in terror. Only trained Nin possessed the requisite mental training to bear what they soon realized was vast and unquenchable killing intent the green white asteroid emanated akin to nothing they had ever felt before. As the asteroid entered the atmosphere, it turned not a red colour as one might expect from a burning piece of space debris, but purple, dark and terrible. Where once the sky was a sickly green it was now a deathly purple, corrupted, evil and hateful replacing causing the world to light up in it’s ethereal glow. Many were blinded by the sight, others burned to a crisp by random rays of dark purple light that spurted off from it. It seemed almost as though it would destroy them all until finally it glowed like the sun and in a moment of pure wonderment and terror shattered like glass into what appeared to be 16 equal parts which flew off in every direction in a manner that could only suggest a greater power behind it. When they struck the world it seemed to shake with their coming, many were killed in its after effects. An entire nation in fact as unbeknownst to the world at large one struck deep into Iwa causing a chain reaction of such violent and all consuming earth movement’s that the country was all but consumed by rock and magma. In the blink of an eye one of the great shinobi villages and the nation it once protected was reduced to rubble. It would be hours before the debris settled enough for scout parties to be sent out to find these crystals, and days before anyone would realize that Iwagakure and with it the entire Earth Country was no more.
As the night continued, and the tremors and smoke cleared, those still able to look up at the night sky could see the stars again, and amongst them, this time, brilliantly red, yet small streaks could be seen. The actual meteor shower had begun in earnest though none could enjoy it, the damage had been done. How can anyone truly enjoy it after the horror of what they had witnessed? And deep down a fear that being growing throughout began to take hold with them as they began to comprehend what such an event could mean. One thing was obvious that mankind with it insatiable desire for power would do all it could to possess those 16 crystals. Desire would breed competition, which in turn would lead to conflict which given the vast power of them would almost certainly lead to war. To the seasoned Nin of all nations it was as clear as day that war was coming and this time the fate of not only their village, but the entire world was on a knife’s edge. The question was simple: Were they ready to do what was needed to win out or would they fall and with them their nation fall to ruin? For one thing was obvious there would only be winners, for defeat in war with so much at stake would lead only to death and subjugation on level not thought possible. A war of untold destruction and death was coming, a war that would embroil all the Shinobi Nations, an ultimate war, the ultimate conflict.
Your story begins ..... We hope you enjoyed the opening thread and would now like you in turn to be a part of it. Very soon threads in all four nations will be established to relive the night from each factions perspective. Not only will it be a great chance to meet people from your faction and rp but to be a perfect starting point from which to develop your character. All members are expected to post in their appropriate thread. Due to the special nature of this opening event posting in these threads supersedes the standard posting limitations, anyone wherever their characters are at home or on mission may actively participate even if they are already involved in 2 other threads. This thread by no means voids the others as special exception to encourage maximum participation.
