Yama no kuni, the Mountain Country. A barren, desolate place, strewn with the ashy crags of tired old mountains and dormant volcanoes, the dry, lifeless, not-quite-desert plains stretching flat and endlessly where the craggy peaks did not dominate. It was into this land that, for whatever reason, Takeshi Hiro and a genin team, jounin sensei included, had disappeared into years ago. Likely, it was in pursuit of some new smithing technique, with the jounin sensei deeming the mountainous land a good test of his genin's skills, confident in his own ability to cover their slack. His confidence had apparently been misplaced, as the entire group was never seen in Kumo again.
Given the nature of Mountain country, one could have expected a roving band of cut-throat bandits, or some hiding nuke-nin, to be the cause of their seeming demise. That was not, however, the case. A lone, towering peak stood at the center of a plain, the other mountains some leagues distant. It was at this peak that the group had disappeared all those years ago, and where a Kumo ninja, stopping over for a nights rest on his way back from another mission, had seen a strange fuin seal. It was not until he'd returned and delivered his report that the connection had been drawn. And now, nine years later, drawing up on this lone peak and the path crawling up it, Takeshi Gouka came, intent to find some sign of what had happened to his father.
The Mountain Country was not a place particularly close to Kumo, as the dusty, ashy-sheen to Gouka's hair and attire, the dust of travel, attested. His deathly white KYOBU mask, normally on public display, was stored for the moment in his pouch. It was useless to try and conceal his identity from his traveling and mission partner, Nibi host Hanzoku Kirima. Gouka risked a glance back as they drew closer to the mountain. The last leg of the journey was a quiet one, but there had been much talking in the early parts of the journey. Missions and village duties had kept the two from meeting as often as they'd liked, so there'd been a fair amount of catching up to do. It'd not taken long for Gouka to explain his placement in the KYOBU was still a fairly new thing, with only one assassination under his belt.
Kirima, bless her heart, while aware of the duties being a KYOBU entailed, was mildly perturbed and less than pleased with Gouka's career path. They had come quickly to the decision that it was best if Gouka did not talk too much of his duties, both for the sake of their peace of mind and village security; he was, after all, technically not supposed to speak of it at all. Still, some of it he could not help... Like the fellow Kumo nin he'd been forced to kill for going rogue. Kageru, the pale waif of a girl who'd called him "Monster." A sentiment Gouka's nightmares did nothing to refute.
Killing rogues was one of the less savory, little spoken of, aspects of KYOBU work. No one liked to think of a ninja forsaking their loyalty to the village. Fewer still liked to think of the grisly work that was made of them by the dedicated Black Ops of the village. All the same, he had Kirima's support and condolences, and she had his. It was how it'd always been, and always would be. Some days, Gouka was not so certain how he'd made it through those recovery years, without that pillar of support to lean upon. He shook his head of the sappy thoughts however, focusing on the task at hand.
"That'd be our destination up ahead, Kitkat." He called out, indicating the mountain before them. "Should be a old abandoned house and forge somewhere up along the path, which is about where the team disappeared nine years ago, and where the fuin has cropped up." He slowed down his pace, pulling back to hang alongside the vibrant red-head. "Plan's pretty simple; we go in, poke around, see if anything new crops up. Otherwise, we're stucking waiting till they can be bothered to send a Fuin expert to come out and check the seal." He grinned a small grin as he got to the neck part. "And if, while poking around, something pokes back... Well, cats are good at sending mice scurrying back down their holes, ne?" He chuckled quietly.

It was nice being surrounded by majestic mountains. Well, nice and also a bit alarming in a sense. The young Kumo ninja felt a bit like she was getting trapped the further into the country she went and the more she was surrounded by high peeks and steep hills which there were probably many whom could hide and ambush them. How different her thinking was now from when she was younger and less experienced. At earlier years, she would have gaped at the beauty of the harsh landscape and wanted to explore and hike until she had left no spot unchecked; whilst now she had a sense of a foreboding feeling at the back of her mind and rather glanced at the mountains as hiding places for bandits or something even worse. The life of a ninja would do that to you, make you constantly look over your shoulder to see if there was someone behind you to stab you in the back. A small huff escaped her, as even if she did miss the good ol' days of feeling secure in a stupor and lies of false security; she could not deny that she wouldn't be able to give up this adrenaline filled life she lived now.
She and Gouka had been moving rather swiftly, not exactly running, but keeping up a fast and strong pace that kept them at a good time with no delay. They only really rested when sleeping at the nights, and often ate while walking on and exchanging words. It felt really nice to be able to catch up with him again, even when she tried her hardest not to judge his career path too harshly. If he had found himself in being a KYOBU, she would of course support him. But there was no way the female could ever agree to killing/assassinating people, ever. And thus, a mutual agreement had been made that he would refrain from explaining his working days -too- much, and Kirima would keep herself from making any judgmental calls.
Did he notice though, that it was not solely the death of other people that made her upset? She truly wondered if he would get that her worries and disagreement mainly resolved around -him-, as she did not approve of her friend being used as a killing machine for anyone. It could not do any human being good to kill others, and already had Gouka been through too much shit in his life to have something more fuck it up even further. But I can't really say anything.. I can only support him and listen to him if he needs to talk. The redhead sighed softly and rested her gaze on his strong back as he walked ahead of her. These feelings she held for him were strong, about as strong as any feelings she had had for anyone outside of her family. There were times even when she wondered if she was thinking too much about him, and then why she did so? Would she possibly grow to love him with the years? Ridiculous. He's like my brother. And yet, her gaze kept resting heavily on his back while she followed his footsteps on the path.
Perhaps she was so attached to him and so happy whenever she saw him because he was about the only close person she had left in her life, excluding her grandfather. Kaze had vanished once more, and this time there was little hope he would survive. Kanji was no longer here. Nobody stayed for too long when in such a dangerous job as this one. Maybe I feel lonely... I don't know. With the years I start to feel a bit restless, and I feel myself seeking out the company of other people more frequently. And yet, I have not had this thing called 'crush'. I know females my age and well below my age all have crushes or already have boyfriends. But what am I then? Am I so different? Is it because of the Nibi that I have no special feelings? These thoughts were quickly dragging her mood down, and so the female quickly tried to get rid of them. She could ponder upon all her life problems -after- this mission.
"That'd be our destination up ahead, Kitkat."
Kirima jumped a bit as she was harshly awakened from the dark clouds in her mind. Her sky blue eyes followed where he pointed, and rested upon the destination. There he might find answers to all his questions, she at least really hoped so. She absentmindedly noticed that Gouka was now at her side, as she still looked up at the mountain. "It's pretty .. in a scary way." It seemed that the closer they got to the destination, the more her mood got dragged down. Anticipation, fear, excitement - they all seemed to dampen down the joyful energy that had consumed the female the first part of the way.
"And if, while poking around, something pokes back... Well, cats are good at sending mice scurrying back down their holes, ne?"
A soft chuckle escaped her as she playfully pushed at his arm. What an idiot. But Kirima was glad he had managed to lighten her mood just a bit. Smiling always lead to a brighter mood, and Kirima was no exception to that.
"Fuck a fuin expert, I say we kick that seal's ass and do what we came here to do."
Her knuckles were cracked as her eyes sparkled with anticipation. She was certainly not going to hand her job over to anyone! And as they had come all this way, she was going to make sure they finished whatever they came here for. If need be, she'd blow the damn place up.

Kirima chuckled at his light-hearted jab, pushing his arm as she did. The joke at least, had brought her out of her silent, solemn reverie, something Gouka had noticed about her the longer their journey progressed. "Fuck a fuin expert, I say we kick that seal's ass and do what we came here to do." Gouka could only shake his head at her unfathomable confidence, but all the same, there was no one he'd rather have had along for this mission. Working as a KYOBU, he'd gotten used to long, lonesome missions, and had come to miss the feeling of true companionship.
Gouka peeled back ahead, taking the lead once again as they approached the mountain. It was a steep, fierce looking crag, dark and blackened with soot and ash from the years of war and destruction that had ravaged the country- or it was simply composed of black granite. Less dramatic certainly, but far more likely. A narrow, winding path had been carved along the face, leading further up it. Of course, the two being ninja, and from the mountainous Kumogakure at that, had little trouble traversing the path, making time to put any civilian to shame, perhaps even outstripping what any flat-lander Konoha or water-drenched Kiri shinobi could hope to accomplish.
Soon enough, the path came to an end, and their destination sat before them. There, nestled into a cavernous crack in the mountain's side, stood a decrepit, worn down looking hut, with slate-gray walls, broken windows, and a sun-bleached, cracked-tiled roof. Attached to it was what was obviously a blacksmith's forge, a little hut with a darkened interior, a round, deep and long-unused fire-pit sitting in front of it. There were bits and pieces here and there, signs of what might once have been a grindstone, an anvil, and a bench- but nothing was left but a few stone bases and some wooden scraps, the rest having clearly been carted off by passing bandits years passed. Both blacksmith hut and hut stood dusty, silent, empty... Or at least, appeared so.
Gouka slipped his mask out of his pouch, bringing the smooth white ceramic up to clasp onto his face. Business was at hand, and business was what Jestre did best. "I'll check out the forge, you give the inside of the hut a once over." He spoke coolly, calmly, no bite of command to his voice, just an expression of his own intentions, followed by a sensible suggestion. "Holler if you find something... Bring down the house, if you find someone. Gouka left Kirima to her own devices as he made his way to the forge, peering over it cautiously. The firepit was a large thing, a good meter and a half in diameter, rising up from the rocky ground in rough hewn, darkened square blocks, obviously of the same stone that composed the mountain. A thick layer of ashy dust coated the bottom of the pit.
Seeing nothing of great import, Gouka made his way towards the hut. Peeking out around the edge of it, Gouka could see an actual smeltery tucked beside it, the large, conical stone structure possessing several vents along the side for shoveling in ore and coal, with a dripping funnel on the front. 'That's odd. If he has a smelter, where's the ore?' As the son of a blacksmith, Gouka knew smelters were unwieldy, time consuming things, which were generally only built directly at the entrance of the mine. Strange to see one so far out, when it'd be easier to have the ore smelted elsewhere and then brought to Yama no kuni, for whatever smith had been crazy enough to call this place home.
Gouka left off on the smelter, turning to the smithing hut. The prevailing sunlight only dimly lit it, but Gouka would be able to manage. Stepping inside, he paused to let his eyes adjust in his mask. A glance was all he needed to confirm it; ignoring the old and worn benches, it was splayed out clearly on the back wall. A large, faded and intricate fuin seal, taking up the entire expanse of wall. Gouka let out a low whistle. He was no Fuin expert, but given the tracker team had included a Hyuuga, he new at the least it had to be a powerful seal; powerful enough to hid from Hyuuga eyes.
Gouka raised his voice, calling out to his friend. "Found it, Kitkat." He felt his hands over the seal, trying to see if he could discern... Something, anything, of use. Alas, all his hands felt was cold, unyielding stone, except for the smoothness of the fuin patterns. 'A seal like this had to have been used to hide SOMEthing.' Turning from the seal, Gouka explored the room around him. Overall, it was dusty and empty, containing little but empty shelves that may have once contained the tools of the trade... Empty, except, for a single, rusted hammer, nestled in a cradle on the wall.
Gouka stared at the hammer. It was odd and out of place, for the tool to be there, when everything else from the place had seemingly been ransacked. He reached out, tugging on the tool. Stuck firmly in place. Scuff marks in the wood around it showed thin, curving lines, as if the hammer had been... Turned? Gouka gave the hammer a twist, turning it to the side. As a thunderous cracked resonated behind him, he whirled around, daggers flashing into his hands. The seal was split down the middle, the sides slowly peeling apart, drawing back seamlessly into the rocky face as the hidden door the seal had been protecting slide open.
Gouka advanced cautiously, eying the dark portal. 'Well, found the mine.' As he crossed the threshold, something crunched under his feet, and he looked down. There, only dimly visible in the darkness, stood a cracked, grinning human skull.
Gouka slowly, carefully clipped his daggers to their wire holders, letting them hand loosely from his hands as he performed the seals for a jutsu. "Kaijūdentō." In the palm of his hand, a little blue-white ball of lightning sprang to life, illuminating the dark space. His other hand, tightly gripping a dagger one again, lead the way, as Gouka advanced cautiously, the light leading the way. As prepared as he was, what Gouka saw next was beyond anything he'd expected.
Gouka stared wide-eyed at the sight, barely breathing, as he slowly dropped down to his knees before the broken, battered skeleton of Takeshi Hiro, just barely identifiable by the ragged shreds of his work clothes and the rusted old smithing hammer, one Gouka had seen and held and known and touched with his very own hands, too many times not to recognize it. The skeletal corpse was surrounded by dozens of smaller bones and skulls, but Gouka paid no mind to them, couldn't pay mind to them, as the hope he hadn't even realized he'd been harboring came crashing down.
"... Tou-san......"
The dim light of the orb flickered, only barely, unconsciously, kept alive by Gouka's chakra.

The higher they descended on the narrow path, the fresher and colder the air became. Kirima filled her lungs to the brim with it and held it there for a few seconds, enjoying how she could almost taste the pureness, before she blew softly away again. It was no problem for neither her nor Gouka to make their way up there, climbing and walking like two spiders who were stuck to the ground without having to worry about falling. Heck they probably outdid any mountain goat! And now the dark mountain loomed over them, like a shadow of something in an old horror story; but that was just Kirima's mind being dramatic. She felt like the mountain was watching her closely, its strong presence making her feel like a tiny mouse that was about to get crushed. And that was not a feeling she really appreciated.
Once the path came to an end, they were finally confronted with their destination. Which wasn't all that eye-catching as Kirima would have thought it'd be. An old hut with a forge to the side, both looking like they could fall over from a slight gust of the wind. "I'll check out the forge, you give the inside of the hut a once over." Gouka's voice broke the silence, issuing out his plans without sounding like he was ordering her around, and so Kirima nodded and glanced over to her friend as he put on that cold and impersonal mask once again. She didn't say anything, but kept walking towards the hut while mulling silently over their previous conversation.
While nearing the run down little building, Kirima circled it slowly and checked for any possible traps or clues that could be laying in plain sight. She started with the radius of about 5 meters around the hut and then kept advancing closer and closer until there was no space left to check. When she was sure there was nothing she could have missed, she took a peek inside of one of the broken windows; but there was nothing to see of importance on the inside. And there was certainly no ambush or anything suspiciously looking going on in there. Well here goes nothing. Her feet carried her swiftly towards the door, and with a slow and painfully loud creaking she pushed it open before slipping inside like a nimble shadow. With an equally loud creaking the door closed again, or at least halfway closed as it barely hung straight on the hinges. It was bright inside the room she had entered, and the air wasn't too heavy; probably thanks to the broken windows. She could see some animal tracks on the dusty dirty floor and could also smell that there had probably been some birds residing in there for a while. The random feathers here and there confirmed that thought. The floor sighed underneath her weight as she stepped forward and kept scanning her surroundings, not only with her eyes but also her nose and ears.
She had never been too fond of old moldy smells, and couldn't really resist wrinkling her petite nose slightly as she started rummaging through the things that were in there. All in all it were a few shelves with small things on them like jars and various containers, a very frail looking table and four chairs (two of them broken, and it seemed that the table had been repaired at least once before), and then a stove and some pots and pans. Out of the room she was in now, which she assumed was the kitchen (well duh) there lay a door into a large bedroom where a couple of people could have bunked in. In there was already a large bed and one smaller one, but there were piles of what seemed like covers or perhaps clothes on the floor as well.
While making a small sound, which was a little like she was trying to pep-talk herself into rummaging through old things, Kirima got started. She began in the kitchen, swept layers of dust off of shelves and walls in attempts to find the seal. Got tangled in spiderwebs and stepped through the floor at least two times. Moved the table and chairs, even managed to pull the oven enough from the wall to see behind it and underneath it; but alas there was nothing of importance she could find. Except of course a very wide range of spider races and animal droppings. She had just entered the bedroom and started lifting up the smaller bed when she heard Gouka calling out to her.
"Found it, Kitkat."
Well then. She dropped the bed and made her way out of the hut, shaking and dusting herself off with frowns and sounds of disapproval. "Damn spiderweb is EVERYWHERE." Following that statement, she got that said spiderweb up her nose and started a series of sneezing while making her way towards the forge in very slow steps as she kept trying to get rid of all the annoyance from her face. The stream of curses which followed could have easily made a grown man blush! Her body stiffened up as she heard a loud cracking sound coming from within the forge. What was that? Her feet moved swifter now, Kirima wasn't sure if this had been a good sound or a bad one.. but at least she hadn't heard Gouka screaming or making any sounds. Again, is that good or bad?
She rounded the corner and entered the forge, looking wildly about until she saw the black mouth of the tunnels. Did he open the seal? Luck was clearly with them! "Gouka?" She advanced slowly, and while doing so quickly drew forth her fire chakra after making a few simple hand seals, and dancing around her fingers were now tiny blue flames. Even if she could rely on her nose and ears in a dark cave/tunnel like that, then Kirima preferred to be able to see as well and the small light emitting from her hand would allow her perfect night vision to work wonders for her.
With a grimace she noticed the pale white human skull that stared without eyes up at her, and Kirima suddenly started to feel a knot of dread building up inside of her body. She didn't have to move far inside before she noticed Gouka, suddenly having dropped to his knees. What- She looked upon the skeleton, and understood. Tears gathered in her eyes as she walked up to her friend, placing a hand on his shoulder and giving it a squeeze. "I'm sorry." Her voice was filled with hurt, similar probably to what he felt right there and then. Kirima stepped a bit away from him, giving the male a bit of a space for his grief, and also so she could examine a bit more around them.
Her eyebrows were drawn together in a frown as she noticed the small, weird skeletons. This was not human bones. She bent down and picked up one of the skulls, frowning even more as she felt like they looked a lot like .. a dog? No a wolf. But ...how? There was a lot of those skeletons around, and the uneasiness made her breath a bit quicker. She was sad to have to disturb Gouka, but it was obvious they had something important to do. Stay alive while finding out what had happened.
"Gouka I'm sorry but look at these. This does not sit right with me at all. We have to keep going and be quick about it, I wish I didn't have to do this but I must urge you to get up and stay with me. Can you do that?"
She walked to her kneeling friend, hoping she could snap him out of his grief-filled stupor as she presented the skull to him. "I don't like this one bit. My skin is crawling in here and my hair is almost standing up on ends." Death was everywhere, surrounding them in its cold and suffocating grasp.

Gouka could remember the words, clearly as if it'd been yesterday, as if it hadn't been nine years since he'd seen his father alive. Takeshi Hiro had been a big, strong man, as befitted a civilian blacksmith. Dark hair, dark eyes, Gouka had taken those from his father, though he'd always had his mother's face, or so he'd been told. Told by his father. But Takeshi Hiro was dead now, dead for nine years from the looks of it. It had been foolish, childish even, to have expected anything else. To have expected that for once in his life, Gouka could catch a break.
He was broken out of his reverie, however, as a hand clasped upon his shoulder, squeezing. Gouka flinched, nearly lashing out, and was immediately ashamed of the instinct; even with a close friend, it seemed old habits would be hard to die. It was as she broke him out of his reverie that he noticed the skull in her hand. And the multitude littered around them. "Gouka I'm sorry but look at these. This does not sit right with me at all. We have to keep going and be quick about it, I wish I didn't have to do this but I must urge you to get up and stay with me. Can you do that?" Gouka shook his hand, slowly climbing to his feet,t he little ball of lightning pulsing. "Yeah, yeah... Sorry, Kit... Kirima." Gouka eyed the skull over, gently taking it from her. It looked, for all intents and purposes, like the skull of a wolf, only much smaller. The sharp fangs, and the numerous ones decorating the area around his father's remains... Did not bode well.
"I don't like this one bit. My skin is crawling in here and my hair is almost standing up on ends." Gouka silently agreed. A closer look of his father's remains showed many a scored mark in the bones- the mark of hungry, biting teeth and ripping claws. Another thing caught his eye- a tattered journal, tucked in the remains of what might have been a knapsack. Gouka reach over, pulling it out and dusting it off, flipping the leather-bound book open. "Damn... Too damaged." Indeed, the pages were old and worn, some of them blackened by smears of what Gouka hoped was only ink, but was more than likely blood. All the same, he pocketed the journal, turning to face deeper into the cave.
The path lead off deeper into the mountain, quickly fading to darkness beyond the dim glow of his electric light. He turned to look at Kirima, noting how her eyes seemed to glow in the dim light, pale blue flames dancing on her fingers. Perks of holding a para-elemental cat demon of fire in your belly, as it were. Gouka spoke in a hushed whisper. "I'll lead, but keep an eye out. Your vision is much better than mine in this place. You see something coming at me, attack first, warn me later." He turned back towards the darkness, take slow, cautious steps forward, leading with his dagger. "This cave has been sealed up for nine years..." Gouka chuckled darkly, sourly. "But I doubt I'd be so lucky for these things to all be dead."
Gouka lead the way, leading deeper and deeper into the mine. The occasional torch sconce line the walls, the wooden sticks still in them too old and rotted to be of any use. Small side-passages occasionally dotted the ever widening main thoroughfare, and it made Gouka's skin crawl to pass by them unchecked- but then, it made his skin crawl just to be in the place, with only Kami knew what else. Creatures, wolfish little things. Trapped. Hungry.
A slow, agonizing quarter hour later, the dim light of his orb revealed their next sign. A broken skeleton, mounds of bones piled before it, a broken bow clutched loosely in its hand. "Yakata Orihime, weapons and fuin specialist." Gouka intoned slowly, recalling aloud the details of the mission briefing, which had included the ninja cards of the disappeared team. He reached down to the bones, kneeling to pick up a dusty, battered and scratched head-band. She had died in a cold, lonely place, but she had died fighting, as the piles of bones before her, some still strewn with worn old arrows, attested.
Gouka shined the light as he moved forward, revealing more and more corpses, more skeletal, grinning remains, some a little larger than the others- "Oh Hellfire."
Gouka stopped dead in his tracks, raising the light up higher as he looked on in stunned disbelief. There, laying splayed back across the ground, as if he'd fallen onto his back rather than tried running, were the remains of Hyuuga Yatsuo, the shinobi they once were clearly identified by the Caged Bird Seal, seared down to the bone, even in death, marking his brow. What shocked Gouka was the size of the skeleton collapsed before it, bony maw resting at the foot of the Hyyuga's skeleton, as if bowed in defeat. The thing was massive, the skull alone nearly as big as Gouka's entire body.
He walked slowly over, pausing to let his dagger hang loose from its clip as he scooped up the heavily scratched, rusted headband of Yatsuo, kneeling down to admire the skull. Reaching out, he gripped on of the massive fangs, careful not to cut himself along the still surprisingly sharp tips, a brief struggle ensuing before he tugged it out of the thing's skull. He stood up, bouncing the thing in his hand as he turned to show it to Kirima. The dusty, bone-grey thing was bigger than his hands, big as his daggers even.
"Soooo, Kitkat... How're you coming along on that tails training?" He said with a mock conversational tone, clearly anything but at ease, as he turned back to face the skeleton, his voice taking on a grim cast. "Because Kami help us if another of those things is in here, still alive, we're going to need it..." He paused, considering his next words. "... Fifteen more minutes. We don't find the remains of the others, we turn right the fuck around and get the hell out of here." Gouka was not normally one for cursing, but the situation certainly merited it.

A small sigh of relief whooshed past her lips as she saw Gouka snap out of his stupor (although she had noticed that the playful nickname had been striked out and instead he was using her name again, perhaps a sign of his distress? Or the overall seriousness of the situation?). She knew he would need time to grief and think of what had happened and why, but now was not the time. Now they had to find out -what- kind of creatures were inside of this cave, or at least had been in it. I do hope it is still in the past tense. She watched Gouka's expression as he studied the skull, before turning his gaze back towards his father's corpse. But now his eyes were professional and studying, he was truly settling into this role of being a ninja at this moment while he tried to find clues or anything really to go by. While he was searching the corpse, Kirima walked around in a small circle and glanced about. With her amazing sight (thanks to the small lights that were emitting from her and Gouka) she made a mental note of all the scratch marks and signs of a brutal battle on the walls of the cave. Something major went on in here.
"I'll lead, but keep an eye out. Your vision is much better than mine in this place. You see something coming at me, attack first, warn me later."
Her lips were pursed, but she said nothing. Sure he could lead, if he wouldn't trip and be in her way. "Alright then, but be careful mister almost-blind-as-a-bat." Surely she should be leading, but maybe he'd offer that himself (and allow her a great deal of boasting her ego) after he would walk into or onto something in the never ending darkness that lay ahead; filled with promises of things they might not even want to find. Her expression turned grim at his talk of luck, they were not lucky at all; either of them. We are gonna get attacked by something nasty, I just know it. And thus, her entire body was tensed up and she was ready if it would come to it, to reach out and grab Gouka before retreating at a much quicker speed than they were traveling at now. She could take the lead, arguing that she could see way better and that he was now moving at the speed of a handicapped turtle; but then there was also the fact that with her eyesight it would be much easier to escape if she would just snatch Gouka up. Plus she could easily see if there was something approaching the front, and she could also smell and hear if anything would try to creep up from behind. So things were okay for now... If she wouldn't soon stomp over him.
An alarmed and suspicious glance was cast at each sideways tunnel they past, but Kirima could not see anything. Not even a flutter of a movement, nor could her sensitive nose or ears pick up anything else but the old smell of death. Her nose was wrinkled as goosebumps crawled along her smooth skin, she hated this smell and this sense of 'warning' that was spreading all over her. Her legs felt stiff and like they were moving completely on their own, as her brain was screaming at her to get out of there now. The small hairs at the back of her neck stood up as yet another fit of goosebumps ran along her body and made her shiver and make a small sound that gave a good hint of how tensed up and uncomfortable she felt. She felt as tense and jumpy as a long tailed cat in a room filled with rocking chairs.
She saw the bones before he did, and the sight did not calm her nerves. Kirima felt like she was going crazy down in that cave, like the walls were just slowly squeezing the air out of her lungs. Did they feel the same? Did they die in absolute horror and fright? She would never, -never- die here, that was a promise the girl made to herself right now. The soft padding of her feet kept on as she moved a bit to the side of Gouka, careful not to step on any bones as she looked curiously and yet alarmingly around her, before now staring at the other skeleton, and sadness was then starting to fill her heart. This was just too much, to have to stay here for all these years and nobody out there to find you and bury you.
"Oh Hellfire."
Her gaze was locked onto the huge skeleton. Her breathing had stopped for a few seconds as she stared at the magnificent skeleton of a beast that probably could have swallowed up a whole village in a day or two. What on earth is this thing... In almost a wonder-filled trance, she stepped closer and touched the cool bones, her eyes were huge in her face as she turned to see the fang that Gouka presented. Her mouth could not even form a smile at the small joke about her training was presented, but then she herself wondered if she would actually have to resort to that power.
"... Fifteen more minutes. We don't find the remains of the others, we turn right the fuck around and get the hell out of here."
Actually, she wanted to get out of there right about -now-... but alas Kirima knew they had to investigate at least a bit more. What if there were more things alive and they would escape this cave? God forbid that. So she nodded jerkily, before now taking the lead while moving slowly further into the cave's darkness. If Goula protested she wouldn't pay heed to it, but only send him a simmering glare. Kirima didn't have to move for long (always making sure that Gouka kept up with her brisker walk) before she stumbled across more human leftovers. This time a charred over skeleton, which was surrounded by equally charred carnivore skeletons of all sizes. The teen swallowed a few times, her gaze flickering over to Gouka, but she hardly stopped for longer than to pick up the headband of the dead man. By now she felt like if she would stop moving her feet might start moving her in the opposite direction; straight out of there. Out of that disgusting, death filled cave that was threatening to eat them alive and keep them hidden from the world for years to come. I fucking hate this cave.
She stalked forward, feeling like all the hair on her head was rising up in the air by now. Kirima was sure that her silent breathing was echoing off the walls, and everywhere she felt like there were shadows watching them. The further they went down, the more she felt like she needed air and proper light. If she had not had the night vision, she would have probably turned around by now and ran back (and probably in the process of that run into a few walls).
"Oh Hell no..."
Her words were a shocked gasp. She could not believe this, would not believe it. Gouka would not be able to make out what she saw by now, whatever it was that she saw. Huge, huge bones. Something bigger than she had even feared to come across. "Gouka." Her whispered voice said it all, reflecting her fear clearly as they came closer to be able to observe the monstrous size of the skeleton. Kirima's gaze ran over it, then landed on the body on the floor. That body was missing an arm, and when she further investigated.. she frankly felt like she was in a graveyard of giants. More skeletons, equally big were scattered around and they were all badly burnt and beat up like the human being had truly given them something worth their time.
"The last.. victim. ...Gouka what is this? What the fuck is going on? This can't be right.. what the fuck are those things?"
She knew fully well that he would probably not have any answers, but her angry/fear filled questions were more thrown out there in a fit of fear than wanting to actually seek answers. If there were creatures like that still in there... they were truly going to get killed. I think they would even give the Nibi a hard time. Was it just her imagination or was there a soft rumble within her own mind, an angry growl of sort?

Kirima didn't even respond to his ill-timed attempt to lighten the mood, as shocked as she seemed by the size of the skeleton before them. When he made it clear that they still had to probe at least a little further into this hellhole, she had only nodded jerkily, clearly wanting to do anything else other than that. Nonetheless, she wordlessly took the lead, which Gouka relinquished without protest. In all honesty, he should have given her the lead to begin with; thanks to her feline tenant, Kirima had much, much better vision in this dark, foreboding place than Gouka could ever hope to have. If he were honest with himself, there was no logical reason Kirima shouldn't lead.
If he were honest with himself, he'd admit that as weak as it seemed, seeing his father's remains had rattled him more than he'd let on. He hadn't been in front to lead; he'd been in front, because anything that attacked, would have had to go through him first. Hanzoku Kirima was the closest thing Gouka had left to a family, and in his heart of hearts, he'd admit that protecting that superseded anything and everything else, even duty. But of course, Gouka couldn't admit that. Not even to himself. KYOBU did not have the luxury of deeming anything more important than duty. Jestre had no problem with it at all, and it was Jestre who followed behind Kirima, heading deeper into hell.
The next set of remains did not take long to find, though Gouka nearly missed the charred, blackened masses of bone, black and lifeless against equally charred stone. Powerful flames had consumed here, and from the looks of the human skeleton, consumed the user of those flames with equal measure. They passed the grave silently, Kirima only pausing long enough to scoop up a tarnished, charred piece of metal, all that was left of the long dead ninja's headband. Gouka noted uneasily that while the skeletons of the beasts were smaller than the one they'd passed earlier, they were still significantly larger than anything they'd seen at the cavern entrance.
"Oh Hell no... Gouka."
The shocked, fearful gasp broke, the quiet whispering of his name, filled Gouka with a steady, unshakable sense of dread. It was not the kind of blind panic and terror that would send younger, less experienced ninja running, but the kind to make old veterans grip their weapons tighter, to lament all the things they never did. It was the dreadful certainty that bad had just gotten worse. Gouka drew up, shining his light, revealing what Kirima had spotted first with her darkness-suited eyes, and Gouka bit off the vicious curse welling in his mouth. He was only peripherally aware of the what had to be the remains of the jounin, Tsugata Yoshiro, compared to what surrounded the remains.
Dozens of skeletons, all showing clear signs of blunt force trauma from all the shattered pieces. Many were as small as the ones they'd found at the entrance, several were as large as the ones found by what were now clearly Uchiha Garuga, the only other member of the team with a Fire affinity. Hell, there were even one or two skeletons the size of what Yatsuo had taken on. And they were all dwarfed by the tree-trunk thick bones of two creatures that had clearly been much, much larger. Gouka could see one of the skulls, a broken, jagged hole through the snout, wicked fangs as long as his fore-arms. He could have comfortably taken a nap inside the thing's maw, large as it was.
"The last.. victim. ...Gouka what is this? What the fuck is going on? This can't be right.. what the fuck are those things?"
Gouka shivered slightly. He had no answers, was certain he didn't want to have answers. The signs were all around him that going deeper had been a clear mistake, and under his calm demeanor and concealing mask, his instincts were screaming at him 'Fight is death, take flight! Run!' "I don't know what they were Kirima, but right now they're a tall glass of get the fuck ou-"[/i] Gouka halted, stiffening as a noise reached his ears. It's been so subtle, he'd almost passed it off as mere air passing through the caves. A rumbling noise. A hungry growl.
In the darkness behind her, two glowing orbs materialized within the darkness, reflecting the dim light of his lightning orb. Pure instinct took over as Gouka's prodigious speed carried him past Kirima, all but shoving her out of the way as his dagger lashed out. The snarling, leaping thing yipped in a painful shriek as it split across his dagger, blood splattering across his chest as it fell to the cold, hard ground with a wet thump. Gouka barely took the time to notice the thing, looking like some malformed little, starved mutt, as more and more eyes began to light up in the darkness, the growling, snarling clearly audible now. Gouka stepped back, trusting Kirima to keep her back to his, because from the sounds of the snarls and growls, it was clear they were surrounded.
Gouka spoke calmly, belying the tension running through him, ready to lash out at a moment's notice, knowing his quick reaction would not deter the creatures for very long. "... Got a light, Kitkat? I don't fight too well with just one han-" Gouka was cut off as an electric glow erupted in multiple places in the darkness around them. More of the creatures, bigger, the size of wolves, covered in yellow, electric looking protrusions as they snarled, covered in a glowing, crackling aura of electricity. Gouka wordlessly let the little ball of lightning in his hand die out, quickly palming his second dagger, gripping it tightly.
'For once when I say 'I'm not that lucky,' would it be too much to ask to be proven wrong?' Gouka had no more time for recriminations, as with an almighty shriek, the beasts began to converge.
Clickie:
Holding position would be suicide; they were both close combat fighters, would only get in each other's ways. Further, they'd have no maneuvering room at all to fight. They'd be packed in, and quickly slaughtered. If they wanted to have any chance, they had to take the fight to the creatures. Gouka trusted Kirima with his life, and certainly trusted her to draw the same conclusions, as he launched himself forward into the ring of fang-filled maws, guided by the light of the Omegas, as Gouka would in later times come to call them.
A snarling, lightless hound leaped at Gouka, only to be slashed aside by a whirling dagger. Three more quickly took its place, biting little fangs hungrily seeking Gouka's flesh. He ducked and tumbled, swinging his leg around in a kick, hidden boot-blade flashing out at it lashed into the side of another beast. The creature yelped in as it was knocked aside, sent flying into a pile of bones, jabbed and impaled on broken ribs. A weight slammed into Gouka's back and he dropped a dagger, leaving the weapon to hang from its wire coil as his hand flashed over his back. He cursed as he felt needle-like fangs pierce his palm, but he gripped the thing anyway, wrenching it off his back and slamming it into the ground. 'Too slow. Too damned slow.'
Indeed, despite Gouka's fierce and rapid assault, he'd only taken down three by the time the first Omega leapt at him. A bitter oath fled Gouka's lips as he was knocked onto his back, his arm locked in front of him to keep the snarling hound at bay. The electric aura covering it brushed against Gouka, sending not quite painful, but thoroughly unpleasant tingles of electricity through his body. Glowing fangs, sheathed in electricity, snapped at Gouka's mask, claws raking against his coat. It would not hold long, and further, the smaller beasts were quickly seizing on the opportunity, as Gouka could feel one, then another, biting into his legs. Gouka's free hand grabbed his dagger and slammed it into the hound's face, ripping off the front of its face, spattering his mask with the dying beast's blood.
He jerked up, tossing aside the corpse, kicking his feet just as a third beast latched onto it, knocking the snarling things aside. He moved rapidly to his feet, barely risen from his knees when he had to lash out and slash another leaping youngling out of the air, grimacing at the pain from the numerous claw-marks on his arm, the bites needling his legs. He let his daggers hang loosely as he flashed through the seals, back-pedaling away from the hungry cretins as he grip a single blade again, electric chakra running to coat it as he slashed out. " Engetsu Tachikata!" A crackling crescent of electric energy lashed out, the chakra-cresent lashing across four of the younglings, filling the air with their pain-filled shrieks and they were jolted, splashes of blood littering the ground from their new wounds.
Four younglings and an Omega down, five and one to go, the dim light of the remaining Omega's glow the only assistance in Gouka's fight. He could only hope Kirima was fairing better than him.

Training Requirements: A 1200 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic. Description: The second level in the art of speed accessible to those who have undergone intense training in high speed movement. The possessor of this talent has an increased speed of 40% which makes them considerably faster. Their movements become so fast and vivid that the ninja can create afterimages in motion. They're body is seen as a blur as they move swiftly and almost unmatchable to the human eye.
Name: Improved Perception Rank: C Type: Mental Based Physical Requirements: N/A Training Requirements: A 600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic. Description: The ninja trains their skill in perception and analyzing their environment to more distinct levels. Most physical motions are identified and picked up by the ninja whether its a movement in a leaf or a change in temperature. This skill is handy when faced with Genjutsu as it makes the user capable in identifying an illusion of C-Rank or lower. However although they can sense the Genjutsu they must rely on other methods of breaking the spell. The ninja also becomes extremely perceptive and observant when it comes to people, being able to pick out mood changes or better understand character. In addition, this skill becomes useful in combat, where the Ninja grows to understand the patterns, habits and the 'rhythm' of the opponent over periods of time.
Equipment
Spoiler:
Name: Raiju Fangs Rank: B Type: Close-Mid (0-10M) Appearance: A reforging of Gouka's previous set of daggers these blades are much the same as ever; two single-edge prongs with a half inch space down the middle, malformed hexagon crossguard, 10 inch length overall, though with slightly different proportions; now four inches of length are devoted to the hilt, with a small metal loop at the base of the blade, allowing for a wire to be clipped to it. The center of the crossguard features a hole in the middle, large enough to fit a finger through. The steel of the daggers has undergone more compact forging, making them slightly heavier, sturdier for close-combat, but still light enough for throwing. Of particular note is that the blades have had an additional ingredient added into them; the powdered fangs of a lightning-based summon Gouka encountered upon a mission, granting a few noteworthy qualities. Quantity: 2 Storage: Kunai pouch or a sheathe on each thigh. Special Abilities: Due to the additional materials used in the reforging, the weapons now possess chakra conductivity; Raiton in particular, to a greater degree, the other elements to a lesser degree. And while not particularly a special ability, the loop and clips allow for the daggers to be held in such a way that hand seals are possiblle without having to discard or sheathe the weapons.
Name: Knife Boots Rank: D Type: Weapon Appearance: A simple size 10 set of boots, made of polished black... whatever it is boots are made of, with a combination of laces and a bucklable strap across the neck, with thick, well insulated rubber soles. Oddly thick soles, at that. The secret of these boots however, lies within theses soles. Buried within them is a mechanism which, with the proper manipulation of the toes while in the boot, cause a short, 3 inch long blade to pop out at the toe-end of the shoe, parallel with the sole. While not particularly dangerous, it can add a nasty surprise to what at first appeared to be only a glancing blow. Quantity: 2 Storage: Worn on feet. Special Abilities: Only the element of surprise.

"I don't know what they were Kirima, but right now they're a tall glass of get the fuck ou-"
If Kirima hadn't been focusing too much on Gouka, and if she hadn't been so distracted by the way her body was yelling at her to run out of there; she would have noticed earlier the sounds of light paws thudding the ground. She might have noticed the stench which followed these soft sounds, and if she had looked around she would have noticed right away the multiple pair of eyes that had suddenly appeared. But she did so now, almost at the same moment as Gouka did; but he was still quicker to react as he burst forward and pushed past Kirima so that she almost lost her footing. There was no mistaking that his daggers had found their target, and yet... there was also no mistaking the fact that they were being rapidly surrounded. If she could have, she would have swiveled her ears around as the sudden intake of all the yipping and growling made her almost cringe; but instead Kirima stepped backwards and soon met with Gouka's back.
She felt his heat through both their clothing, his back was firmly pressed against her own as she slowly retrieved a kunai into her right hand from her pouch. Along with the heat, she felt like she was gathering strength from her friend; and thus she suddenly felt how her body calmed down. Her breathing was slow, her eyes moved steadily over the group of beasts; and her muscles were ready to spring into action as her well trained body seemed to know exactly what was going to be happening and knew how to respond. "Let us live to see another day." The words were muttered out as a fluttering prayer for both their lives crossed her lips.
"... Got a light, Kitkat? I don't fight too well with just one han-"
He fell silent, and Kirima also saw the same peculiar looking creatures as he did. Immediately the light in her hand died out, as she was now channeling fire chakra throughout her entire body. It was too risky to do anything with explosions, as she didn't know how strong the cave still was; and if she used fire attacks she would risk blinding Gouka. I have to be wise and careful in this battle, but it is a good thing my enemies will be providing me with the light I need. The electric covered wolves, bigger than those who looked now almost like mere pups; were snarling and snapping while foam of saliva dripped down to the floor. All of these creatures looked were haggard and skinny, like they had been trapped down here without food for a long long time. And now suddenly, two very juicy ninja had appeared before them like they were being served food on a platter. They aren't getting a bite out of me though, nor Gouka if I can help it.
As if sensing her resistance to be eaten, the bigger wolves let out a terrifyingly loud shriek as a sign for the battle to begin. If she and Gouka would fight this close together, they would surely hack at each other as well. We must move apart.. I shoul- But her old friend seemed to have exactly the same in mind, as he was already on the move; running into the darkness where flashes of eyes, fangs and claws greeted him. Kirima didn't dally at that, her hands flying into the needed hand seals before she too dashed head on into the clutches of death.
A ferocious growl was emitted from several hungry mouths as the beasts charged towards her at the same time. With fists clenched (and still clutching a kunai in her right hand), Kirima threw a powerful punch towards the first youngling that tried to take a bite out of her left thigh. For a moment, she felt like everything was moving in slow motion; she saw the others come closer and felt as teeth and jaw and then the skull of the creature simply let go underneath her curled up fist while at the same time the smell of burnt flesh whooshed up to offend her sensitive nose. Without a sound, the burnt and smashed youngling dropped to the ground, and already she was turning on her heel and delivering the same bone crunching punch to the rib-cage of another one of the smaller creatures. As before, her aim was true; but there were many of the enemies whilst she was alone. There was a tugging at her left leg, causing her to quickly kick it upwards so that the youngling that had latched onto her flesh was sent flying upwards into the air before Kirima's strong fist connected with its back; breaking the small spine in several places before the creature went flying.
Thanks to the Special Jounin's harsh and constant training, pain like this didn't matter to her and certainly did not slow her down or distract her. It was like she was simply being poked and pulled at as they scratched and bit wherever they could, whenever they could. Her other hand flew down into her pouch, retrieving 3 shuriken which were held between her fingers before she flung them with speed and power into the face of a youngling that screamed out before dropping down. That's four that are down of the smaller ones. She noticed that now the bigger, electrified wolves, were both circling her while encouraging approximately six more smaller ones to charge. I see how it is you bastards. She had no time to check how Gouka was doing, but could only hope that he was fine. There were several small scratches bleeding on her forearms, and her left leg had a small gash that bled constantly where the youngling had tried to tear the flesh off her bones with its razor sharp teeth.
Again she was charged, this time one of the bigger wolves following suit. They seemed to be a little scared of coming too close, obviously having seen and smelled the burning on the others who dared come too close to her feet or fists; but now their patience was wearing thin. With a fierce growl, the big one lunged at her while the younglings circled and came closer with yipping and snapping. As the wolf was upon her, she felt the slight tingling of the electricity in the air, but as with the smaller wounds didn't feel bothered by it nor slowed down by it at all. With a flashing kunai and a fierce growl that emitted from her own throat, she pushed back the attack and slashed off an ear of the big wolf. The animal didn't seem to mind it much, only slightly shaking its head before charging her again. When she moved to lift the kunai again, her arm felt heavy and slow; glancing quickly to the side she noticed that a youngling had attached itself to her arm, digging its teeth deep into the flesh so that she felt a small stinging sensation.
There was no time to get it off, as the wolf was upon her; sending them both crashing to the floor but giving Kirima a slight momentum to get her knees up underneath its belly and flip it over her head before she rolled up on her feet. As the slightly stunned wolf was gaining its feet again, the female reached over and grabbed the younglings throat before ripping it off her arm and sending it flying to the floor before stomping down on its head with a bone-crushing effect. Her arm was a bit limp, making her wonder if any muscles had been damaged. It could be a little bit difficult when you were numbed to pain, as then it was difficult to determine just how injured you were. A wicked snarl caused Kirima to spin on her heel, only barely avoiding having her throat ripped open by the wolf that was charging again. Its teeth grazed her neck, the sharpness of the fangs causing small trickles of blood to run down into her shirt.
As the beast turned to face her again, Kirima had already made the quick hand signs, and then drew a deep breath before bursting out a few small blasts of wind. As the wolf was close, it got hit right in the face and a howl of pain echoed throughout they cave as it got blinded on one eye; but the howling did not last long before Kirima's kunai had found the artery at its neck and opened it quickly up.
One big and five small left.
The gusts of wind had slightly injured two smaller younglings, but they were still advancing closer. The filths were quickly learning that she could see them perfectly, and that her fists and feet were something to stay clear off, so while Kirima was eyeing them carefully they did the same while making the circle around her smaller and smaller. With a fierce cry Kirima suddenly charged forward, jumping onto the back of a small youngling before hacking her kunai down into its head. Blood splattered all around her, painting her face with war-paint; making her fierce expression only look more dangerous and murderous. Her eyes were almost glowing by now as she reached backwards to grab a charging youngling, grabbing it by the scruff of its neck and flipping it over her head before aiming a precise stab into its chest, digging the blade of the kunai through the younglings heart.
Three small ones left.
Her breath left her in a whoosh as she was just getting up, when a harsh tug on her leg sent her sprawling on the ground and getting the air knocked out of her lungs. A quick glance backwards confirmed that the wolf had her foot in its mouth, and by the looks of it her ankle was either broken or simply twisted in a very grotesque manner. "You sonuvabitch!" The anger made her shout echo through the cave, slightly startling the creatures around her and giving her enough time to grab a hold of a youngling that had been just barely in her reach and without a hesitation throwing it at the big wolf. The animal quickly let go of her foot to avoid being hit by the yelping smaller body, and Kirima used that to her advantage as she quickly got up. If it wasn't her training now that kept the girl from feeling the pain, it was also the adrenaline that was pumping fiercely through her veins. And she decided to use that to her advantage.
There was no time to think about any further injury that she might cause herself, at this point she didn't even care. With a powerful roundhouse kick, she sent a youngling flying through the air and breaking almost every bone in its body as it landed on the wall.
"Just two more, and then its time for you and me to dance pretty little thing."
She stared at the wolf with a wicked grin on her face, the already drying up blood adding onto the effect, and the wolf stared back at her in a silent challenge with its fangs bared. The two younglings who were left seemed to be getting a little unnerved, and yet the hunger made them keep going.

Flashes of fire and yelping, piercing shrieks of pain were all Gouka need to know that Kirima was certainly giving her own set of opponents reason to fear. He stood with his daggers held out warily, the remaining creatures running in a fast, furious circle around him. Every now and again one would dart out, as if going for an attack, but as soon as Gouka turned to face it, one would dart at his feet, sharp teeth nipping at his heels, forcing him to kick the little mongrel back. Several of the younger ones were bloody from Gouka's lightning crescent, leaving spatters of blood everywhere they went. The Omega was hanging back, still covered in an electric glow, growling and shrieking. All the same, the beasts were cautious. They were not accustomed to prey so fast, so flexible, as Gouka was proving to be.
Suddenly, without warning, the prowling Omega's mouth split open, an electric hiss rushing through the air as it spat a bolt of electrical energy at the encircled Gouka. The masked ninja twisted over backwards, nearly planting his head against the floor, scars sending dangerous twinges along his spine as he ducked under the blow. Continuing his momentum, he let his daggers hand loose from their coils as he planted his hands against the ground, back-flipping and launching himself out of the ring of circling, nipping jaws. As he spun through the air, his hands flew to his pouch, palming a brace of kunai. By the time he landed on his feet, the beasts were coming at him again, But Gouka launched a triple set of the daggers.
One youngling stumbled with a yelp as its paw was taken out from under it, another was pierced directly in the skull. The third dodged the flung blade completely, and the final two continued undeterred. Suddenly however, something changed. The Omega let out a high pitched, keening whine, and the final three younglings stopped, glancing warily into the darkness. Then, as one, they turned from Gouka, clearly intend on joining whatever force was attacking Kirima. 'Oh no you don't, you filthy little sons of bitches.' Gouka's mind hissed angrily, the young ninja taking a step back as he prepared to launch himself after them.
That step may well have saved his life.
It was so fast, so sudden, he didn't even have time to react. A wall of black fur rushed across in front of him and a searing line of raw pain split across his belly. So shocked he was, he stumbled back another step, one hand instinctively going to his belly. He didn't need to look to know what the damp, warm stickyness coating his hand was. 'Blood... my... blood...' Only then did a new light flare into existence, revealing just what had so nearly gutted Gouka like a fish.
It was large. Much larger than the ones they'd been fighting. It's shoulder didn't stand much lower than Gouka's head, and it could have clamped its jaws around his face without tilting its head up. It looked like a massive wolf, but gaunt and thin from starvation, patches of black fur having fallen off. A crackling electric aura covered its body, much brighter, much stronger looking than what the Omega had managed to bring to bare. It snarled, vicious fangs glinting with electricity, claws crackling against the ground as it lowered itself, tensing.
'Shit.'
The beast launched itself forward, howling primal fury and hunger. Gouka's left hand remained clutched helplessly against his split belly as his right desperately brought his dagger to bare for some kind of defense, any kind of defense.
'Shit shit shit shit-' "SHIT!"
Gouka cursed loudly and openly as several hundred pounds of hungry, ravenous beast slammed into him, taking him off his feet. His dagger locked against snapping, snarling fangs as the pair flew through the air. Their momentum was so great, it carried them right into the remains of one of the massive beasts, Gouka howl of pain choked in his throat as both he and beast slammed through a near-decade old rib, leaving the pair trapped in the rib-cage. The ribs of the far side held however, and as Gouka's elbow braced against the sturdier bone, the creature's snarling, fang-filled mouth lunged forward against it. Gouka's teeth clenched shut as he felt the massive mouth ram onto his dagger, heard a metallic twang of what he knew was broken steel.
Just as the burning pain of the electric aura began to singe Gouka's skin, the light suddenly went out, the beast gurgling as its mouth went limp around Gouka's hand, casting him into darkness. He panted heavily, the rush of air moving past his left eye alerting some dimly aware part of him that a portion of his mask had broken off in the struggle. He weakly brought his arm away from his belly, gripping the head of the beast and, with a mighty heave that made him choke on his tongue in pain, pushed it off of him. His dagger clattered against the stone ground as he dropped it to hang from its wire, his hands shakily forming the seals. "K-k-kai... K-kaijūdentō." The little ball of electric light sprung to life in his hand, and it looked just as bad as he'd feared.
One of his daggers, his prized daggers, the last gift of his father, had snapped half off in the beast's mouth, locked against its fangs, leaving him with a broken nub of bloody steel. Gouka would happily have traded both daggers, however, compared to the dire straight he was in. The beast had raked across his belly in its first pass, a single, razor-sharp claw rending across Gouka's belly. He poked tenatively at the bleeding slit, and the wave of nauseous and pain confirmed his suspicions; nothing had been rent, thank Kami for the small blessings, but the fact remained he now had a split in his belly, and if he didn't find a way to close it up, he'd either bleed out long before they reached Kumo, or else he'd forced his own entrails out from any exertion.
Gouka slowly leaned his head back against the rib. It was quiet now. Had Kirima won? Or was she feeding the beasts now, even as Gouka lay there, knowing full well his little light would be a beacon to both friend and foe, knowing that if anything else came after him, he wounds would only lead to his death whether or not he resisted.
There was a word for describing situations such as this. It was "Fucked."

Both the younglings lunged upwards with impressive speed, their sharp fangs aiming for the vulnerable neck to make the woman bleed out in a quick manner as they would at the same time start feasting on her tender flesh; however, nimble as Kirima was, she ducked to the left side and struck her kunai into the stomach of one while the other flew over her shoulder and landed with an impatient growl. The howls of pain from the other youngling as the kunai slid through its intestines and spilled them to the ground stopped as soon as they had been emitted in the first place, and the limp body fell like a rag doll to the ground. The other youngling barely had time to snarl before the kunai got lodged between its eyes, burying deep into the brain and killing the beast within 2 seconds.
Standing gracefully up while wiping gore and blood off the kunai, Kirima faced the big wolf. They circled, slowly and carefully, both trying to see where the other could be injured and therefore a weak side to attack. When that didn't seem to be helping either, the wolf suddenly grew still and the electricity around it started growing bigger and stronger. He's up to something. He's going to get me with a Raiton attack. She had to counter that, since she didn't know just how strong he was with making elemental attacks. Bracing herself, she launched forward; the ground crackling underneath her feet as she used a small blast of Chakra to help her get even faster; the weaker ankle protested only slightly but the woman barely felt it, so far as she had estimated then it wasn't broken but only slightly sprained. The wolf growled out at her sudden charge, but she kept going even when the electricity was starting to feel more than just ticklish like before. With a rib-cracking force she thrust her elbow into the side of the wolf to send it sprawling down onto the ground, feeling as its teeth grazed her skin when it tried to catch her and defend itself. The electricity crackled against her skin, but with gritted teeth she kept moving. With luck, the rib she broke would puncture the wolf's lung and immobilize it at least a bit. She followed down onto the ground, straddling the flailing and kicking wolf while ignoring sharp claws that were scratching her face, arms and legs. Her kunai was raised up and thrust downwards to plunge into the wolf's stomach, but a mighty struggle of his sent her reeling a bit to the side so that her kunai only went through its side and got pinned into the ground.
With a growl as ferocious as that from the wolf itself, Kirima used the advantage of her already falling movement, plus the pain the wolf was experiencing from the rib; and as she landed on the ground she was not a full second to wrap her long legs around the bulky body, drawing the wolf closer until its back rested against her bosom. Paying no heed to the scratching of its claws against her legs, she gave the beast no time to react or think before she had wrapped her right arm around its neck like an anaconda about to strangle its victim. Grabbing onto her elbow with her left hand, she locked her arm around the wolf‘s neck and started pulling, and pulling, and pulling. The terrible sounds of the beast suffocating almost made her feel bad for a second, but then she only thought about what would happen to both her and Gouka if any mercy would be shown.
That thought alone made the young woman tighten her grip even further until she was surprised she hadn't simply broken the strong neck of the wolf who was still fighting for a breath with gasping and drooling and growling. The seconds dragged on, feeling like minutes; and then suddenly the wolf went limp with a final growling sound. Kirima held the grip for a few more seconds, shaking the head of the wolf a little to check if it was truly dead before she slowly let go and got up on her feet. As was the rule of Kirima, she knelt down and grabbed the kunai that had gotten plunged into the ground; pulled it free and shoved it into the beast's eye just to make sure it would not be coming for her again. Double tap; best rule ever to be made.
She hadn't known though, through the noise of her own fight, that there were more heading her way after leaving Gouka. Suddenly everything went black for a second and she found herself sprawled out on the ground, her limbs shaky and tingling slightly. Electricity? Had one of the fuckers managed to sneak up on her and used that damned elemental attack? Fuck. Even if the pain wasn't so much of a hindrance, then the electricity still weakened her whole body and made her limbs feel like jelly. She moved her head to the side, just in time to look into the gaping mouth of a youngling that was planning on starting its feeding. Kirima felt cold sweat starting on her brow as her hand snatched into her pouch, pulling out a new kunai with precision and speed that made her still weakened body protest. Before the small beast could do much more than make her almost gag with its foul breath, Kirima had plunged the kunai into its mouth and through the back of its head. The youngling was immediately replaced by two others that nipped and bit at her, trying to drag her around as the bigger wolf approached fast.
Flipping onto her back, Kirima's foot made one youngling yelp out as she kicked it away while her bloodied kunai scratched the nose of the other. Gaining her feet now, she started after the one she had kicked; but at the last second spun on her heel to avoid having her arm ripped off by the wolf that came rushing through the air. But at that same moment, a sound made her stiffen and her eyes turn wide with fear.
"SHIT!"
He's hurt! Kirima took the risk as she backpedaled from more attacks to glance in Gouka's direction, only to see her dear friend being whisked away by a big and bulky shadow. "NO!" She started to run, blind with fear for her friend; but the two remaining younglings and the wolf cut her path, making the almost hysterical female glare fire at them. You fucking pricks. You fucking disgusting pricks. Her hand dropped the kunai and went into her pouch, snatching out a roll of string that she wrapped around her hands before she turned on her heel in a quick bluff. The younglings of course fell for it, both already at her heels; but the woman pulled the wire between her hands so it would get longer, before she suddenly stopped and crouched down. Both the younglings were at a bursting speed, so while they tried to stop by using their claws against the hardened floor, they skidded a bit forward. With lightning speed, she maneuvered the string to each of her sides, catching both of the younglings heads in it's grasp before she jumped backwards and pulled with all her might. There was only a split second of yelping before a sickening 'plopping' sound was heard and blood sprayed all over.
The string was dropped to the floor as she looked at the last foe. Kirima's hand went back into the pouch, grabbing two kunai and holding them in each hand. "Come on, come and get me!" The wolf took a step backwards, its ears leaning down against its head while it snarled and snapped; making the woman smile darkly as she recognized fear in its eyes and movements. Her feet started moving, her breathing was steady; and her eyes were locked on the target. The wolf ran to the side, then seemed to make up its mind and met her in mid charge; they slammed their bodies together and went down in a flailing pile of limbs, fangs and blades. Growling and yelping mixed with cursing as they battled for a few seconds for control, but then Kirima's kunais found their targets, one into the underbelly of the beast and the other up into its throat. Satisfaction seeped through the veins of the woman as she felt the warm blood seep into her clothes and warm her face and hands; she had won.
Gouka.
She pushed the body off of herself, and ran towards where she knew they had gone; she could also see the faint light from Gouka's jutsu where he was waiting. It wasn't long before she saw the big body of a wolf, laying atop the legs of the man whom was so dear to her. "Gouka! Are you okay? Say something!" She skidded to halt next to him, dropping down onto her knees while staring with huge, deep blue eyes at his face. He looked.. well like shit. Just as bloodied as her, his mask broken almost in half, and a pained expression on the visible part of his face. With wonder she looked around, seeing what had caused the whole commotion and how he had killed the wolf, before her attention went back to the male. Her own clothes were torn, dried and still wet blood was smeared across her face and making her hair fall in lumps into her eyes, she was bleeding from numerous scratches and gashes everywhere, a steady stream of blood running from her leg... but the only pain that was in her eyes was through the fear of losing Gouka. She quickly pushed the wolf off of Gouka's legs, before checking out how he was injured. She would completely ignore any of his questions or comments in her frantic search, until she stared grim-faced at his wounded belly. I need to stop this bleeding.
Slowly her hand went into the pouch, pulling out yet another kunai before the young woman looked sadly at the male on the ground. "I'm sorry, this will hurt like fuck." She ripped a sleeve off of her shirt, and bundled it into a sort of knot before offering it to him. "Bite onto this, it might help and also prevent you from biting your tongue." Her voice was soft, oh so soft from fear that this might be something she couldn't repair. She then started up the previous jutsu of fire licking against her palm and fingers. If Gouka would accept the fabric or not, Kirima would next hold the kunai's blade against the fire in the palm of her hand until the blade would be cherry red from the heat. A small worry line on her forehead betrayed the woman of her own condition, as now as she had stopped moving and the adrenaline was starting to slowly fade out; she could feel how her entire body was starting to protest. Even the heat now that was leading up through the kunai managed to bother her, and make her have to clench her hand around it so she wouldn't simply drop it to the ground.
When the heat was good enough, she straddle Gouka's legs and let the fire in her hand go out. Kirima leaned over Gouka, her face only inches from his, her eyes looked deep into his own (at least that left one that was visible through the broken mask) while she whispered small words of encouragement to him, and also asked him not to punch her out. Then she moved a bit backwards, gingerly held the wound together with one hand before she applied the heated blade to the wound. A fizzing sound was heard, and she gritted her teeth together at the stench of burnt human flesh. Her eyes were wet with tears as she hated having to hurt him, but she kept going until the wound was properly closed. For a moment after, she only sat there and breathed deeply and slowly; dropping the kunai from her shaky hand as she went off of Gouka's legs and checked how he was doing. Checking if he was still awake, or if the pain had been too much.

Gouka would have sighed in relief when his red-headed companion burst in on him, if he hadn't been so certain the motion would hurt like seven kinds of hell. He did almost chuckle when she asked if he was alright. "Aside from... being curb-checked by a couple hundred pounds of wolf..." He spoke slowly and shakily, his hand rising up to pry the rest of his mask off his face, breathing heavily as he held the broken ceramic loosely in his hand. "... Yeah, not, today has been a shitty day." His father was dead, he was covered in wounds, his mask and dagger broken... No, today was most certainly not a good day for Takeshi Gouka, and it looked like it hadn't been good for Kirima either. From what he could see in the dim light, she was covered in her own fair share of wounds, and had a deeply worried look in her eye. Her face turned especially grim once she'd pushed the wolf off his legs, and assessed the damage to his belly.
"I'm sorry, this will hurt like fuck." Gouka nodded in silent agreement as she pulled out a kunai, ripping off one of her shirtsleeves and tying it into a knotted bundle. "Bite onto this, it might help and also prevent you from biting your tongue." Gouka wordlessly took the cloth in his mouth, his tongue recoiling slightly from the faint taste of blood, as Kirima lit a flame in her palm, holding the drawn kunai to it. Gouka was a smart lad. He knew what needed to be done, to make sure he didn't bleed out on their egress from this hell hole. Doesn't mean he felt any less trepidation as Kirima straddled in front of him, the kunai she held a red, cherry-hot.
She whispered a few meaningless words of encouragement, staring him in the eye as he took slow, deep breaths, focusing only on his breathing, on keeping the little orb in his hand going so she'd have the light to see by. Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, out, in... Though Gouka's eyes betrayed nothing, his jaw clenched into a mass or harsh lines and tightly locked muscles when Kirima began applying the knife, a choked gurgle of pain rising in his throat. As she slowly closed more and more of the wound, the smell of burning flesh made Gouka want to retch, nearly choking on the gag. Finally, mercifully, the deed was done, and Gouka spat out the cloth gag, wretching. "Right, that was fun. Let's never do it again." He spoke tiredly as Kirima looked him over, the lad slowly pushing himself to his feet.
His fingers prodded gently at the burned-shut slit, eliciting a pained hiss from him. He wouldn't bleed out, and it hadn't rent his abdominal cavity, but it was still going to hurt like five different kinds of hell until a proper medic could look at it. He saw Kirima looking over him worriedly, and he reached out, giving her shoulder a comforting squeeze. "I'll live, Kitkat, which is damned more than can be said for these uglies, or the team that got trapped in her a near decade ago." He turned from her, slowly crouching down, grabbing the dead wolf's head. Reaching into its mouth, he dug, cursing as he knicked himself pulling the broken shards of his dagger, what he could, out, and pocketing them.
Theme:
He turned back to Kirima, moving carefully so as not to exacerbate his wounds. "I would hope that was all of them. In either case, we should-" Gouka paused, brow furrowing in confusion. It had been subtle, so subtle he almost hadn't noticed it, but had the ground just... Trembled? When the roar, the massive, primal roar of fury and mad hunger ripped through the cavern, rattling the bones around them, sending shivers of fear- for the first time since he'd descended into the cave, actual fear. It was big, it was hungry... And it was coming. For one moment of terror and silence, Gouka looked Kirima in the eyes. "Run."
Gouka made good following his own advice, dragging Kirima along if he had to, setting as close to a blistering pace as his injuries would allow. Even then, he held himself back, keeping his speed in check, because he would be damned if he would live only to have left his best friend behind. The cacophony of yips and howls, punctuated by the occasional roar, was all the motivation they needed. Whatever was coming, it was bigger by far than any of these small fry, and it was most certainly coming with reinforcements. However many of them there might have been, standing and fighting would have been a sure death sentence. They needed to get out, and fast.
Gouka's little light was barely enough, the young shinobi only just avoiding tripping over the various scattered bones as he and his companion made it past one set of bones, then the next, driving for the entrance. Behind them, the wave of primal, hungry noise continued, drawing ever closer. He turned the last corner, Kirima almost certainly in tow, the light shining across his father's bones... And Gouka stopped dead in his tracks. For a few moments, he could only stare. Then he began cursing. He began cursing violently. He began cursing violently, vehemently, and would likely have gone on for a long time if another roar had not cut him off.
The entrance, their shining light to salvation and survival, had closed shut behind them. They were trapped. Gouka took deep, calming breaths, trying to rationalize. To think of a way out. 'Alright, be cool, be cool... There has to be a way out of this.' He ran his hand along where the entrance had been, finding not a crack or seam to betray the door. The stone was cold, hard against his hand, his brow furrowing as he did his best to ignore the growing howl. He considered his supplies, considered his predicament, his resources. How thick the stone door had seemed when it'd opened.
He turned slowly to Kirima, doing his best to keep a calm demeanor as a plan formed to mind. A plan he might not live to see the completion of. "... I've got enough explosives on me to blast a way out, Kitkat... But not enough to seal it back shut behind us and keep these things from escaping." He paused for a moment, letting the gravity of the situation sink in. If they didn't get out, they would die. If those things got out... Who knew what kind of havoc they could wreck on the nations if they had ample space to grow, breed... feed."So, here's the plan."
He twist his remaining dagger in his hand, knowing Kirima would be none too pleased with it. At all. "You're the Nibi container. You have access to... Fantastic, amounts of power. You control a primal beast of hatred, anger, and fire." He let his dagger hang loosely at his side, staring her in the eyes. Hanzoku Kirima. His best friend. "Tap into that. Bust a hole right through that wall to get us out of this hell hole. I'll set up my tags, and once you get us out, I'll blow them and collapse the entrance behind us. While you work on busting down the wall, I'll work on keeping those things off your back."
Gouka's eyes took on a softer, resigned light as he'd reach out, clasping a hand to her shoulder for a firm, reassuring squeeze. "You're not going to like this part. At all. But..." He leaned in, and one could have been forgiven for mistaking him for having romantic intent. But no, Hanzoku Kirima was like a sister to Gouka, and as he'd done with his sister Tsume so many times before, he'd simply place his forehead against hers, one of the only genuine physical displays of affection Takeshi Gouka had given in six years. "I need you to promise me, Kirima, that whatever happens, that no matter what you hear, you won't stop. You won't turn around." A hint of steel crept into Gouka's voice. "Don't stop for anything. Bust the wall down, get out, and just start running." He gave a small smile, pulling away, a bit of cheek in his voice now. "Slow as you are compared to me, you'll need all the head start you can get to keep out of the blast range when I come tearing behind you, setting the tags off."
Gouka would do his best to reassure and calm her, but he would brook no arguments to the set-up; as soon as she'd stop looking, as soon as she'd start to set herself against the wall, the grin would slip from his face, the light would go out from his eyes, and settle into grim determination as he began to make preparations to face whatever may come from down in the depths of this hellish place. If only one of them made it out of this situation alive... Well, Takeshi Gouka would burn in hell before he became that one.'You will live, Hanzoku Kirima... Even if it has to be over my broken corpse, you will live.' Was the silent vow Gouka would make. He would not lose his precious person to a monster. Not again. Never again.

"I'll live, Kitkat, which is damned more than can be said for these uglies, or the team that got trapped in her a near decade ago."
Her tired eyes were watching Gouka with relief as she nodded slowly. He would be okay, he would live and she wouldn't have to loose a dear friend. A family member, someone whom she would protect with her own life. Thank... God. It worried Kirima how bad their shape was though, it was certainly not a part of the training they received to fight so many opponents at once; and that was clearly to be seen. Well if she had been alone in that cave she could have relied more on fire jutsu and used her unique eyes to out best the beasts as she would have blinded them... but alas, she couldn't have risked blinding her companion also. In no way would she ever blame him at all though, what mattered now was that both were alive and both had still all of their limbs functioning somewhat. All Kirima wanted to do now was to get home, take a long warm shower and sleep for a day or two.
"I would hope that was all of them. In either case, we should-"
She had almost managed to lower herself down on the ground to take a breather, to let her sore and protesting muscles rest for just a few seconds.. but it wasn't like she and Gouka could allow themselves any sort of rest this day. She had heard it as well, and her body once again tensed up as she sprung up on her feet. A roar. A very..loud and powerful roar. What the heck was coming -now-!? She shared the few moments of terror as her eyes locked with Gouka's, before he uttered the one word to send them going. "Run."
She had known that he was faster than she was, painful as that had always been to the pride, so she easily noticed that he was deliberately holding himself back in order to not leave her behind. That certainly made her feel happy, even if she was almost at the verge of shouting at him to just go on and leave her behind. She didn't want him to sacrifice himself for her. So instead of doing that, she only pushed herself farther and farther; running at a speed that she didn't even know she had, while her sprained ankle made her limp only the slightest. She could see of course perfectly due to the small light in Gouka's hand, although it was clear that the male could have used some bigger light in order to help himself and his human eyesight.
Just gotta keep going, just gotta... keep running. Her legs were protesting, her lungs burning as she sprinted alongside Gouka while occasionally glancing backwards with a grim expression. She could hear them easily now, coming closer and closer; a mighty roar and growling mixed with the yipping and snarling of a herd of smaller ones. We have to be quick to close the entrance. They can't get out! If they would get there in the first place, as she was sure her legs would give in at any given moment now. She felt a strong grip on her wrist as she was literally being dragged along, and somehow that gave her a bit of an extra strength to keep going and turn at that last corner, where she expected to be able to breathe a bit more freely and be able to bathe in daylight. But there was no opening anymore. No hope anymore. Nothing. They were trapped. Trapped in this darkness, to be eaten by ravenous beasts. The female barely even heard Gouka's cursing, as she walked closer to the wall with her eyes wide with wonder, broken hope mirrored in her gaze. Was this it?
Gouka started talking to her, forcing the woman to stop her plan of panicking just a little bit. A plan? He could think up a plan at this moment? Man was she glad, as at this point all she could feel was the dread of being trapped in there. "You're the Nibi container. You have access to... Fantastic, amounts of power. You control a primal beast of hatred, anger, and fire." A frown came instead of the lost expression, her eyes turning sharply to Gouka as she was none too pleased with where this was going. Her mouth was set in firm lines as she listened, while her eyes were glaring into his own. Was he really, seriously, suggesting that she would use -that- power in here? Trapped in this cave? Last time she could barely control herself, she had almost .. killed Kaze. How could Gouka ask this of her? No I can't... no.. Her gaze flickered away from his as she clenched her fists.
"Tap into that. Bust a hole right through that wall to get us out of this hell hole. I'll set up my tags, and once you get us out, I'll blow them and collapse the entrance behind us. While you work on busting down the wall, I'll work on keeping those things off your back."
Her wounded gaze met his again, and she knew that he was right. Kirima knew she would have to contact the beast within and use that power to help them. But she was scared of it. Scaredy cat. I'm a scaredy cat. Why was she always so scared? Why was it Gouka that was always taking charge and thinking for them both? Why was she so hesitant? I have to do this, our lives... depend on it. I can't let them just kill us. I knew it would come down to this some day, that I'd actually have to use that power when in trouble... but, will she work with me?
"You're not going to like this part. At all. But..."
Gouka leaned in closer, catching her attention completely as she was not used to him being ... well affectionate at all in any manner except perhaps with his small jokes. She was honestly not sure what he was going to do, but didn't back away; only looked at him with wide eyes until she felt his forehead leaning against her own. A burst of emotions flared from within her as she closed her eyes and treasured that short moment. He was her best friend, and he certainly was a big part of her family. He was the one she could lean onto, and as she could feel now .. he was the one to help her not to be afraid of her own powers. Like a dry plant, desperately trying to suck in the moisture and life from the earth; so did Kirima desperately cling to the feeling of bravery he had provided her with with his small gesture of affection. She heard his words, and greatly disapproved of them... but she also knew that once again he was right. She was slower than he was, she couldn't afford to slow him down. For a moment she even wondered about if she could fight the beasts in the tailed form, but knew better than that. She had only once before used it, and it had completely exhausted her... and seeing the state she was in now .... Best not think of it. I will get us out, and I will run... but I will look back and I will wait for him when in a safe distance. I will never ever leave him behind.
So she nodded, put on a brave face and gave him a timid smile. "You can count on me, I will make that cat help us out and we'll get away from here." Her voice was stronger than she thought it would be, as she gave him the last reassuring look before turning towards the wall of stone that was seperating them from the rest of the world. Slowly, she rested her forehead against the wall before emptying her mind completely. Can you hear me? She ignored any noise from around her, she ignored that she was tired and her forehead felt like it was freezing as it lay against the cold stone. All she was focusing on, was the image of blue fire. Warmth. A snickering grin with a row of huge fangs. Can you hear me? Her mental call was growing stronger, fiercer. She growled to herself, focusing on keeping the focus on the Nibi. Listen to me, we both know that unless you help out then I'm not walking out of here. And if I'm not walking out of here, then you aren't going out of here either. Still there was nothing, and she was starting to grow a bit desperate... and angry.
"Listen you fucking bitch! You better help me out now or so help me God, I will -" Her loud shouting echoed throughout the cave, but before she could finish the sentence a growl echoed in her own head. A rumbling sound sent a shiver down her spine, and her knees suddenly just buckled from underneath her own weight. Her head fell slightly backwards, her eyes remained closed; but her mouth was wide open.. and was it just her imagination or did another growl come from her own throat?
"You called?"
It was loud inside of her own head, loud enough to make Kirima groan loudly out as she clutched at her head. There was that feeling again, this ... terrible feeling of power and anger.. this feeling that pulled so tauntingly at her and made Kirima want to bathe in it and never let it go. "I must... keep... control..." Her pained voice was barely a whisper as she suddenly noticed that she was ...literally glowing in a dark blue hue, all of her body was enveloped in it and that blue hue was slowly starting to look like small sparks of fire... and yet she knew that it was the Chakra that would give her what she needed.
"Use it well, but I'd prefer if you wouldn't kill us both. Try to do anything cute, and I will make sure your friend will not live another day."
The threat made Kirima grimace, but slowly agree within her own mind. She knew that any tries of attacking the beasts now would result in Gouka getting in the way. "Just.. give me.. your power .... and shut... the fuck up." Her hands were pressed against the ground as she stayed down on her knees, her head almost touching the ground as well when suddenly the burst of power made Kirima scream out. It wasn't any normal scream, it was completely out of this world, a shriek that almost split her own ears; something to make anyone feel shivers of horror down their spine if they would hear it. She grit her teeth hard, and felt as the fangs started growing slowly as the power of the Chakra was weighing her entire being down to the ground. Too... much.. I can't.. She drew in a shaky breath as she tried to keep her own mind guarded, but it was so hard. So fucking hard. The Chakra was bubbling around her, dark blue and glorious; yet dangerous. The tail grew and grew until it was proudly sprouted out and flickered around with annoyance. Her eyes opened slowly, and a roar that had nothing to do with her being a human erupted from her throat. Her clenched hands dug into the ground before she slowly stood up, swayed only slightly, before looking wildly about. Everything was so.. clearer and smelled stronger. It was still difficult to keep her feelings and mind at bay, but it was easier than last time.
Her fist came into contact with the wall, a loud thumping sounding. She was going to break this wall into pieces, all the anger was going to be directed to this... damn.. wall. The female backed slowly, her eyes barely blue slints in her face as they glared at the wall. The Chakra flames were burning wildly around her body, giving quite the bright light into the cave and far into the tunnel; most probably providing Gouka with some more light to help him out with his own eyesight in the dark.
Not even knowing herself how to manipulate the power that was bubbling within her, Kirima only followed her instincts. Her mouth opened slowly, wider and wider and she felt as a great deal of power was starting to gather there. The Chakra was seeping into it, making her already tired body shiver; but the woman was unaware of that as in the state of the tailed form, she was hardly aware of the fragile state of her own human body. Suddenly a big ray of blue Chakra burst forth from her, exploding against the stone wall that was only a few meters away from the young female. With crackling and loud sounds of explosions, an opening was there; but as Kirima was already starting to feel herself letting more and more go, she felt as another orb of power started forming in her mouth. It's too .. quick.. She took a step backwards as the other blast went from her, the ray of Chakra tearing through stone and burying itself through the wall of the building and slightly into the mountain itself. Large boulders started falling down, threatening to close the cave and even threatening to land on Kirima. Her protesting scream echoed as she took another step forward and raised her arms outwards as if she could stop the collapsing of the rest of the entrance. And as soon as she did that movement, she felt as Chakra was swept away from her and long arms of Chakra went ahead of her, reaching where she could not reach. The boulders were thrown, blasted and crushed away as Kirima walked slowly onwards. She felt it, she felt that the Chakra was going too fast away from her untrained body, but there would be time later to worry about that.
As she was finally inside of the forge, after being done clearing the way enough for Gouka to follow, Kirima now had to fight to repress the power once again, and that was more difficult than anything she had experienced. It was painful, and so difficult. She was clutching her head, groaning and moaning out as she fell into the walls and banged her own head even against them. It was like there was something simply stuck inside of her head! She let out an outraged shout, kicking a boulder out of the way before leaning heavily against a bigger stone. It was only due to her strong willpower and also the will to live on that she managed to push it slowly back; exhausting herself greatly in the process.
When the last drop of Chakra disappeared, everything went black and Kirima tasted metal on her tongue. She had probably been out for just a few seconds, as her eyes opened quickly and she found herself laying on her stomach on the floor. As she had fainted, she had hit her head rather hard on one of the small boulders that were scattered about the floor; and now blood was trickling into her eyes as she struggled to get up. Her arms shook like leaves in the wind, her legs simply felt like they were no longer there as the female dragged herself painfully onwards. Her breathing came in short gasps as she clawed herself onward over the floor, the beating of her heart threatening to make her deaf.
Must...keep.. going...
She managed to get out of the forge, and slowly standing up she was swaying like she was walking in the ocean and having the waves crashing upon her body while she took one step... another step... Her eyelids were growing so heavy, but she kept stubbornly walking onward while trying to get away.

Gouka took a few deep, steadying breaths as Kirima set herself against the cold, cruel stone that barred their escape. The howls were growing louder and louder, and he knew he wouldn't have much time to prepare. Further, he knew Kirima would not be able to simply draw on his Nibi's power at the drop of a hat; she would need time, ample time. Gouka tossed the little ball of lightning, letting it stick to the sealing. It would hold for a bit, enough to light his way. Swallowing nervously, he performed the seals for a jutsu he had come to dread resorting to; Kage Bunshin. With a burst of smoke and a rush of chakra, the dopple-ganger appeared, looking as grim as Gouka felt. Wordlessly, Gouka dug into his supplies, forking over any explosives he had on hand to the clone. The clone would move about, setting the explosive around the cavern, prepping them so they'd detonate all at once, hopefully collapsing the entrance behind them.
While Kirima meditated and his clone prepared, there was little else for Gouka to do except prepare, and ready himself. He steadied his dagger in his hand, pulling a kunai from his pouch, taking slow breaths. His feet shifted as he spread them into a ready stance. In the back of his mind, he could remember one of the many lectures he'd received from his KYOBU mentor, Shoru. 'I call it the 'Soul of Ice.' It's a state of absolute, objective determination. Nothing matters but the goal. Nothing is relevant if it does not work towards the completion of the goal. A mission objective, protecting someone you care for... with a Soul of Ice, nothing supersedes that goal. Everything you do will be directed towards that goal.' The howling grew louder and louder, drowning out a faint murmur from Kirima. The clone finished setting up the tags, placing the various explosive senbon and kunai, and took a ready stance beside Gouka, drawing its own cloned-blade.
'Soul of Ice. Soul of Ice.' Gouka repeated the mantra over and over, the howling, roaring rising to a deafening cacophony of noise. Deep within his prison of ice, Gouka did not hear it. It did not disturb him. Slowly, his face settled into a cool, expressionless mask, his eyes like frozen chips of obsidian in the dim light of the electric orb. The goal was set, the duty was in sight. '... Hanzoku Kirima... will live.' The first gleam of a hungry eye appear, and a single youngling launched itself through the air at Gouka, reckless in hunger. He did not hesitate, barely twitching aside as he let the beast's own momentum split itself across his upraised dagger, blood splashing across Gouka's face. And then the horde was upon him.
They came in twos and threes, youngling after youngling, reckless in their ravenous hunger, throwing themselves at the Black Reaper one after another. Gouka twisted and turned through the heaving bodies, dashing back and forth as he slashed them down, one after another, coating his arms in gore as kunai and dagger rended creature after creature. Others tried to stay low, trying to attack his feet, but they were too slow, far too slow, as Gouka danced out of their reach, striking down upon them like a mongoose on a striking snake or else kicking them aside, the dagger in his boots splitting their weak bellies. Others tried to bypass him entirely, driving instead for the seemingly weak, vulnerable form of the meditating Kirima. His clone would brook no such interference however, quickly bringing down each one that tried to sneak past.
He killed five. Then eight. Thirteen. Twenty. By the time he'd slain his twenty fifth beast, his clone had slowly moved further and further back behind him, closer and closer to Kirima, needing more time to react to the ones bypassing Gouka and having less with each passing moment. The front of the original was completely coated in gore, and more and more floor space was obstructed by tiny little bodies. His muscles screeched in protest at their continued exertions, each body weighing a little more heavily against his blades, but he relentlessly pressed on, face set in icy resolve.
Still, as busy as he was, the first Omega to leap from the darkness, fangs alight with the promise of an electrified bite, a slower shinobi would have lost their life then and there. Gouka jerked to the side, his kunai hand flying up to nail itself into the side of the passing beast's skull. However, momentum, and Gouka stumbling on one of the smaller corpses, caused the beast to wrench his kunai from his hand. Before he could recover, or reach for another kunai, another Omega had launched itself at him from the dark. Gouka cursed as the beast knocked him over backwards, fangs snapping and snarling at his exposed face. He dropped his dagger, letting it hand from its cord as he grabbed the beast's snout, keeping it back. Quick as he could, he pressed his feet into its belly and kicked, boot blades ripping through its stomach, pouring its entrails onto Gouka. The beast howled, and then fell silent.
It took Gouka a few seconds, as he lay there panting, covered in gore and blood, for him to realize he was not yet under another attack. He jerked upright, looking around wildly, fearing the beasts were simply bypassing him entirely to take on Kirima. But no, he could see them, gathered at the edge of the darkness, crouched low, growling lowly in... Fear? It was then that Gouka noticed it was much brighter in the cave. Far brighter than the light of his Flashlight jutsu could account for. Moving unsteadily, he turned around slowly, facing the bright, flickering blue glow.
Kirima radiate bright blue chakra, letting out a piercing, roaringly angry shriek as the chakra erupted, coating her body in bright blue flames. Gouka could only watch in dumbstruck awe, barely registering that scattered sound of scrabbling feet and terrified yips as the beasts began fleeing back from whence they'd come. 'This... is power.' Gouka thought dimly, watching as Kirima thumped her fist against the stone barrier. He watched as she stepped back, mouth opening wider and wider, first a seemingly angry snarl, then unnaturally wide. Then, a furious eruption of pure, raw energy blasted from her mouth, shattering a hole through the door, glorious daylight seeping in.
Gouka did not have any time to begin to feel relief as the ground rumbled beneath him, chunks of stone dropping from the ceiling. He could only watch helplessly as Kirima unleashed another blast of chakra, digging an even greater hole, great heaps of stone crumbling from the ceiling. Gouka and his clone dodged frantically, rocks clattering all around them, fiery arms of chakra lashing out from Kirima to crush the ones falling near her in mid-air as she slowly made her way through the hole she'd created. Finally, just when Gouka feared the entire mountain would collapse atop of him, the rumbling stop. He didn't see any sign of Kirima. He and his clone shared a look, and both took off running for the hole, hopping over various scattered rocks.
They arrived through the hole to see Kirima taking slow, shaky steps through the forge, swaying on her feet. The clone was quicker and closer, darting forward, quickly taking her arm across his shoulders if she would allow it, helping support the tired kunoichi. Gouka breathed a heavy sigh of relief. 'It's good. It's all good. We're safe. We're-' The thought cut off as a furious roar echoed from the cavern, rattling Gouka's teeth in his skull. Almost immediately, a blinding flash of light ripped through the air, a beam of raw electricity sundering through the mountain side, sending down a shower of rocks. Had it been lower, it full well might have ended both Gouka and Kirima.
The clone continued supporting Kirima as Gouka threw himself back to the hole. Seeing what lay within, he could feel his heart drop into his stomach. The beast was massive, so much so it could only just barely fit in the tunnel, claws raking madly across the floor. Its fur was white, but dirty, large patches fallen off, taut skin and bone visible, clear signs of the beast's starvation. The mad desperation that drove it to try and fit through the hole, to launch the bolt of lighting as it had. Time seemed to slow down as Gouka turned to his clone and Kirima, the gears ticking inside his head.
It was perfectly rational, logical, what he did. There was no other choice. The clone would not have lasted long enough to distract it. Kirima was tired and weakened. The beast's lightning blasts would have allowed it to make short work of any rubble, quickly allowing it escape. They needed time. Kirima, needed time. It was the only option, the only logical course of action, but deep down in the Soul of Ice, Gouka could only hope that one day Kirima would forgive him.
The clone would drag her off, using its greater speed to get them both out of range. Gouka threw himself into the cavern, dashing towards the monstrous beast. Its eyes widened in mad hunger as it snarled, a bolt of lightning beginning to build in its jaws. Gouka clasped his hands into a single seal, sending a tiny burst of chakra out. Amongst the tags set up and deployed, 3 sparked to life, the sound lost in the beast's roar. Almost immediately, they lit the tags near them, and the tags near them. The explosion rapidly expanded, consuming thirty four notes, twenty four pouches, sixteen senbon, and two kunai. In other words, one very big boom.
Gouka coughed as he pushed himself to his feet, groaning in the darkness. The explosion had knocked him clear off his feet, but it'd done its job; he was sealed in with the Raiju, as he'd taken to calling it now. It would have no way out... And he would buy Kirima the time to make sure it couldn't get out. He grunted as he stood up, facing towards where the massive thing lay still wedged inside the passage, the too small passage it had clawed into in sheer, ravenous hunger. The glow of it was dim, and it seemed dizzy. Perhaps a few flying boulders had knocked it a bit. It wouldn't last, Gouka knew.
He slowly reached into his pouch, withdrawing the single Raiju fang he'd taken from the skeleton earlier. It was with casual, almost bored ease that he unspooled his wire, wrapping the fang tightly in his hand. A better, more fitting make-shift weapon could not have been had. Gouka was very, very calm, for a man who was utterly confident he was going to die. 'Kirima will live... Whether because I prevent this thing from digging its way out, or buy her the time to escape...' He closed his eyes, taking a deep, shuddering breath. 'She will live.'
The Raiju was beginning to recover its barings, growling fury increasing moment by moment. Gouka's boots pushed off the ground, time slowing to a crawl as his daggers came to bare. In those final moments, a poem drifted across the icy, cold calm of his mind. He could not remember where he'd heard it, but for some reason, it brought to mind his short-lived, deceased mentor, Vandheer Lorde. 'Once more into the fray, into the last good fight I'll ever know.'
The Raiju screeched in fury as its eyes locked on the darting target of Gouka, an electric glow beginning to build in its mouth. 'Live and die on this day... Live and die, on this day...' Gouka leaped into the air, twirling twing blades of fury, the dagger of his father's forge and the fang of his revenge.

Jutsu/Chakra Usage
Spoiler:
Name: Kage Bunshin no Jutsu - Shadow Clone Technique Rank: B Type: Ninjutsu Range: N/A Element: N/A Description: Similar to the Clone Technique, this jutsu creates clones of the user. Unlike the Clone Technique, these clones are actual copies, not illusions. The user's chakra is evenly distributed among every clone, giving each clone an equal fraction of the user's overall power. The clones are capable of performing jutsu on their own and can even bleed, but will usually disperse after one or two solid blows. They can also disperse on their own. The clones will be created in roughly the same condition as the original. Because the chakra of each clone is evenly distributed, the user and each clone will contain the same amount of chakra after deducting the initial chakra cost. All remaining chakra on the clone after it is dispersed is refunded to the user. Clones automatically disperse if their chakra supply hits zero, but are not influenced by the 10 chakra minimum for survival. Chakra Cost: 15 (Per clone)
Name: Explosive Tag: Activate Rank: E Type: Fuuinjutsu Range: N/A Element: N/A Description: This technique allows the user to activate an explosive tag they have planted somewhere. Preferably they should be within close to mid range and visible to the user. You cannot activate another persons explosive tags unless your chakra has been channeled into them beforehand. Chakra Cost: 1 (per 3 explosive notes)

Through her dazed state, Kirima noticed that suddenly she was moving a lot faster without much effort over the ground. Her heavy eyelids opened more than before, giving Kirima the view of Gouka's clone (although she didn't know at that point that it was a clone) which was helping her out of range from the explosion to be. Blinking slowly as a thundering headache (most probably caused by lack of blood and exhaustion) made the female cringe slightly, she licked her cracked lips and spoke out in a hoarse voice. "Gouka? Is it done?" There was no answer as he kept running onward without paying her much heed, and a frown slowly went across her features. With a glance backwards, she noticed that there was no smoke, there had been no blast and that only meant that the deed had not been done yet. Wait. What's going on? She started to struggle a little now, letting out a soft protesting sound as she started to strain her already sore and weak muscles.
"Hey.. let go."
Her mind was starting to clear a bit as they had gotten into the fresh air, and so she felt like she was slowly getting a bit stronger. However, there was no denying the fact that she was aching all over and she was getting close to having lost a dangerous amount of blood; and last but not least, the fact that she had had to force the Nibi Chakra back was probably what had done if for the her already tired state. That fucking bitch. She probably wanted to have more fun. By now Kirima was struggling and grumbling against the hold on her, furiously starting to flail while growling out. "Let me go! If the tags didn't go off then what? We have to go back! Let me GO!" Her flailing ended up with Kirima elbowing the clone hard in the chest while also somehow managing to tangle her own legs with his; making them end up falling down a small hill before stopping. Just as they had stopped, the Gouka who was helping her suddenly disappeared in a poof of smoke.
What the?
A cold hand of fear grabbed her heart and squeezed it tightly until Kirima thought it would simply burst. Where was Gouka? Why had that clone been half-carrying her away? And last but not least, where was that damned blast?? Kirima half crawled/half walked up the small hill she'd rolled down, while making her way slowly back; her gaze fixated on the forge as she came into view of it again. She had barely taken a few steps when suddenly a terrifying roar made her stop and inhale sharply. This sounded louder than -anything- they had met down there, and was it now getting out?? Where the heck is Gouka? Even when she was wondering, deep down inside Kirima knew. She just knew that there was no way he was making his way out. He had sent that clone after her.. and now... now what? Was he planning on sacrificing himself? Not on my watch.
She forced herself to start running, tripping only a few times before suddenly there was an earth shattering blast that sent the female reeling backwards in the air. She landed with a soft thump, and immediately curled into a little ball to defend herself from flying shrapnel and rocks. Luckily she seemed to have been far away enough to escape most of the blast, but that wasn't really what was in her mind.
..Gouka had never come out.
"NOOOOO!"
Her scream split the air. What had he done!? There was just this terrible silence now. No one calling out her name, not even a small groaning to indicate that there was alive human being anywhere. The redhead barely remembered getting to where the hole into the deep tunnels had been just a minute ago. Suddenly she was just there, kneeling on the ground while desperately pulling at rocks and digging into the dirt even when she clearly saw that the explosion had done a fair job to the entrance. Heck there wasn't even anything to tell about left of the forge or the hut. Why did he do this?? Her mind was in pure chaos, sadness got mixed with anger and then hysteria as she started crying loudly while keep digging. Her fingernails broke off, her fingers soon started bleeding; but Kirima just kept sobbing loudly as she fought against the boulders that kept her away from rescuing Gouka.
She was bruising her shoulder against a rock she was trying to push out of the way, when the world started spinning and she fell down onto her back, sucking in the air like she had been deprive of it for hours. I have to get help. I have to go back. I can't ... I can't do this without help The thought of leaving him in there.. it was unbearable. Kirima truly believed he could still be alive, and she would not give up until she would get him out of there.
"Do you hear me? DO YOU HEAR ME YOU SHITTY CAT!? GIVE ME YOUR POWER AGAIN!"
Her fists pounded against the rocks as she yelled furiously out, fully knowing that the beast would most likely only grin at her. Both knew that Kirima didn't have the power to withstand more at that moment, and if the Nibi would lend her the power again, then Kirima could not be sure that the demon cat wouldn't do so just to be able to get out. There would be little of defenses from the human girl in the weakened state she was in. So the ending result was simple, she had to go back to the village and get help.
Kirima's shoulders shook with suppressed tears as she leaned her forehead against a cool rock, remembering the gentle touch of Gouka's forehead against her own as he had given her his own strength. "Wait for me. Don't give up.. just.. wait for me." She pressed her palm against the ground, digging her fingers deep into the soil as her teeth were bit tight together; before standing up abruptly and starting on the travel back home. She would not rest, not eat, and not drink until she would get back to Kumogakure and alert the others about what had happened. The ragged state of the young woman looked stronger than ever before as she all but flew over the ground while making her way down the steep path of the mountain. Whenever she felt dizzy, all she had to do was remember Gouka's forehead against hers; and she felt her willpower get stronger and stronger. I am not losing a family member today. I am not losing my best friend today. She had to force herself not to stop and look back with sorrowful eyes, but keep going while her heart felt like it was sinking into her stomach and her eyes kept threatening to water up.
"I will not leave you there. I will save you, I promise. Please just stay alive and wait for me."
[Exit for Kirima.]
