| The young body of the female assailant fell with a slight thud as it hit the sanded ground. Kana slowly rose from the water his eye trained on her. His weapon was substituted by that of a kunai. His eyes were devoid of mercy. His friends had fought hard and all for the emotional instability of a one female. He knew of the scars of loss. He could give her that. He knew of the bonds that shinobi could weave in their short life expectancy. He could also give her that. What he would not give Sakura was the reason for which to avenge her lover and to Rias why she needed Sakura. Life is only as valuable as the user or those around you. If Rias had wanted Sakura because of what her master meant to her then he could understand that. Soft careful steps approached the fallen kinouchi. The ripples that his feet made as the weight of it disturbed the surfaces quickly dissipated into the lake as if made by a passing memory. Kana kneeled and placed an experienced finger near the carotid artery. The pulse was weak. Immediate understanding came to Kana. In order to speed his modified needle he had used a wind jutsu able to shift his body five feet. The power that it generated not only caused the young ninja to pass out it had been too much for her. She was dying. The small mercy was that she would pass on not knowing. Then again, every shinobi deserved the decency of knowing when they had been killed. Their life was a blur; death should at least hold some memory. Kana patted her head and turned her over. Unlike her master, she would not live. Unlike the student, the master would not know rest. Kana made his way over to the bird who was still prisoner of wires and hooks. Kana quickly pulled out the shuriken and turned to start healing the bird. He turned to the animal and patted the plumage. “I am afraid all I can do is healing the wound. Your feathers must sport the damage caused by the impact of the shuriken. I thank you for defending me. Though you may not have meant it.” He then headed back to the pair of dying and almost dead feme fatales. He checked their vitals again. A solemn hand made sure the young one had her eyes closed. The pupils would never again see the light of sun or stars. There was a sudden shudder from the older kunoichi. A small tear made its way down her face as if some aspect of her had somehow cared for the younger one. The tear streak was like a small shooting star in the night. It was there and then it was not. Kana looked towards the darkness. He hoped his friends would not disappear into the night too.

Unable to hear the outcome of the scuffle at the lake, Toshiro had only been able to hope that nothing else had gone drastically wrong. Especially when matters had finally sorting themselves out on his end. His threat had brought the third attacker up short and the air of defeat had almost been palpable around her. So much so that Toshiro hadn't had to do more than jerk his head and the fan which was poised to unleash another blast of wind fell to the ground as shoulders slumped in defeat. That had his first indication that there was more between these kunochi than just a mutual goal, and he gave some thought to the possibilities entailed as the conscious prison was bound by Saitou. A thoroughly battered and sore-looking Saitou whose state said that his unseen fight hadn't gone nearly as well as Toshiro's. Still they had won and that was what mattered. Right? As the two Leaf-nin casually questioned their conscious captive on the way back the jounin had begun to wonder if maybe a stalemate wouldn't have been better. Especially when the four left the trees and the aftermath of the second battle by the lake was visible. While Kanako had refused the proffered medical aid, explaining in her surprisingly lyrical voice that the only lasting damage was to her pride, before returning to her clan's home, the two downed figures were readily apparent and from Kana's posture it was clear that the third young kunochi hadn't been as fortunate as her sisters. She didn't break down sobbing but even in the waning light available the tears flowing down rin's face were apparent.
Just then four figures seemed to phase into existence in front of the Konoha ninja with a surprising level of stealth. Enough that Toshiro almost cursed until he caught sight of the masks each wore. Then he did curse, once but with great feeling. Now that the heavy lifting was over the ANBU had finally put in an appearance and no doubt would do whatever they planned unless the three battle-weary "regulars" were willing to fight about it. As for the four masked shinobi, none wasted time getting to their duties - two moving toward the lake where the battle had taken place and the other two to the deceased kunochi. The glow around their hands clear indication that they were up to something, and Toshiro waited for Kana. As Toshiro looked on that glow intensified and at its peak it he would have sworn that the body moved under its own violation. Whatever happened was clearly of importance to the ANBU, the two at the "body" now looking up expectantly at the likely squad leader who simply nodded. Then the pair of Black Op's medics, along with both downed kunochi, were gone in twin body flickers that sent fallen leaves into the air. That was when the other half of the ANBU squad approached, having finished policing the lake for whatever they sought and started "talking" to each other using the hand signs that most ninja learned at some point. Whatever the subject of their discussion, the two masked ninja finished almost as soon as they started and split up so that one each was in front of Toshiro and Saitou. It only took one additional "phrase" sent his way for Toshiro to figure out that the two remaining ANBU wanted the other two prisons to transport back. After a moment of deliberation the jounin shrugged and handed his burden off to the apparent squad leader while Saitou was relieved his load by the last member. Then the remaining ANBU and captives were also gone in body flickers, leaving the three ninja the only humans in sight.
Looking in the direction of Konoha, Toshiro found himself putting the mixed bag of emotions and thoughts in his head into words right then. "I have a feeling that whatever they did and its outcome is going to either be a large gain for the village, come back to bite me in the rear hard, or both. Probably more of the second." Despite his words the senior of the three Leaf-nin couldn't help but hope that the other two medics had succeeded where Kana had failed. Maybe he was going soft but the tale he was putting together from the bits and pieces had struck a cord in Toshiro's heart. He knew what it was like to lose a sibling - real or in all but blood - and he found himself hoping that the two would be spared that misery. Then he looked around at the battlefield, his companions through the fights waged there, and gave his last order for the evening to them. "Lets go home. We've done our part in cleaning up this mess."

| Kana looked back on to the battle field. This crater had always been a sort of bad omen for many in the village. Tonight it had seen death and perhaps a bit of betrayal or some sort of conspiracy by the black ops of his own village. The medic had always beheld those that hid behind masks as untrustworthy. He hope that the lack of answers and the lack of trust would in the end benefit the whole village but he knew that when people work in shadows it is hard to see the light in anybody. He shared his white haired leader’s belief that they might have been sent there to die but to weaken the enemy enough that the ANBU would take over and bring the Uchiha in. Such a noble clan in the status range of the village would be ashamed to have one of theirs defeated by another clan. Also, the eyes to be harvested were of high demand. Who knew what secrets the body would reveal? The young medic knew that certain high level medics could extract information from the cells themselves. It would be eons before he could call himself among those ranks but he knew that even then he may not truly understand the reasoning behind this. What he was thankful for was the fact that the medic or the one with medical skill of the masked group had seemed to have better success than he in resuscitating the eager young teen. A chance of life was better than nothing. Then again, he hoped the life she would live as a captive or worse of whatever division these masked operatives were from would be better than the peace utter peace death provides. Whatever the case, it was beyond Kana’s hands and he instead concentrated on fixing his friends. He oversaw Toshiro’s wounds, but the leader merely weaved him aside. He instead turned to his purple haired friend who seemed to have fared much worse. After a quick fix. The trio departed the now still watered lake and headed back home. The trek was silent as each was caught in their own thoughts. They had come here to settle lose ends but perhaps they had opened a new can of worms which would be theirs to deal with later… {thread exit}
