| In his quest to become a powerful member of Kumogakure’s Shinobi, Hiruzen tried to do whatever he could to improve himself on a weekly basis. Believing that the aim of improving oneself on a daily basis to simply be too much, he stuck to truly improving himself at least once a week in a field he believes to be insufficient. As an Uchiha, people always had the highest of expectations of him, just like his father had when he finally stopped drinking. As a result of his death, Hiruzen felt a far heavier weight on his shoulders, pushing him to become a better shinobi that was worthy of the trust of his family. Hikaku always told him that he did not have to keep pushing himself to become better, though those were words wasted. He had already established that in order to do right by those that had fallen so he could live, he had to become better, stronger and faster than he was now. His physical speed had already been pushed quite far for someone his age, just like how his agility had become quite well developed due to the time he had been spending with the Macaques of the Forest of Sanctuary. For a bunch of monkeys that did not understand what he said or vice versa, he believed that things had gone quite well. Heck, they had even taken over some of his mannerisms and learned how to fight with sticks and accurately throw rocks with a velocity close to that of a flying shuriken.
Hiruzen had used their ability to accurately throw rocks and nuts several times already to train, only being successful the last time he had attempted to dodge them all. Speed and agility were two of the things he was known for, his actual other abilities being the kind of stuff no one really bothered learning more about. It was often the case that those branded with a title or a nickname were known only for that because one person copied the other, making it so that most people had no idea of what he was capable of other than just running fast and being quick when it came to dodging and evading attacks. Aside from the most common people that knew only his nickname, there were also the people that knew him as a member of the Uchiha clan, leading most to believe that he was also potent enough when it came to the use of ocular powers and the Sharingan. In Hiruzen’s mind and the eyes of the people that had actually seen him in action, speed and agility were the things he was best at, what made him stand out among his fellow Chuunin. That, and his Sharingan of course. Speed however could be gained in ways other than just running quickly and having flashy reflexes. To truly be fast, he had to be able to perform actions other than running and dodging at a higher pace too, making them just as fast as his feet.
The first and foremost thing that had to become faster was his ability to cast both Ninjutsu and Genjutsu, focusing his attention to the weaving of hand seals and the molding of chakra. Yesterday, Hiruzen had made an attempt at testing just how far he could take the molding of chakra when it came to formulating a powerful offensive technique. Feeling like his attempts had the result he hoped for when he burned away several dummies completely with a single fire style technique he had learned when he was still a child, showing exactly how potent a shinobi he had become. Because he had been working with fire chakra before, Hiruzen wanted to continue training with the same natural element this time. Molding fire chakra time after time after time, he could feel how he managed to increase the speed at which his chakra rose up to the point of molding through hand seals after repeating the same process for about an hour. While it was a tiring process, the prodigy felt his control over the molding of chakra grow inside of him, in turn making him feel like this training was truly worth pursuing. Causing his chakra to rise and molding it into a technique by increasing the speed at which his hands and fingers moved, Hiruzen effectively increased the time required to completely execute a ninjutsu.
When his casting time was gradually decreased, Hiruzen started thinking about different scenarios that might not allow him to use both hands in order to form a jutsu. Remembering that his father had once shown him that he could cast jutsu with a single hand as opposed to two, the young shinobi figured it would be worth trying. After all, if his father could do it, he wanted to do it too, just better. Attempting to finish the casting of a jutsu with a single hand, Hiruzen had quite some trouble with it at first, though he soon found the way around the problems he faced. Thanks to that, the Uchiha learned that he was in fact capable of doing such a thing as forming one handed seals, having the required amount of control over his own being, both in body and in mind to pull such a thing off. Finding that this saved quite a bit of time and effort, it was a good thing to be capable of wielding seals with either one of his hands so that he could potentially wield a weapon in his other hand. It went without saying that his ruthless training and the urge to do right by his fallen friends was exactly what he needed in order to awaken the power of his ancestors, their blood coursing through his veins, their ability to master whatever they set their minds to locked inside of his very soul. For now, just knowing that he could do it would be enough for now, being quite tired after a week spent doing nothing more than training his own skills. |
