Perhaps one of the lesser known areas of Hi no Kuni was the bridge leading to the temple.

There were many temples in Hi no Kuni, and many of them had a bridge leading to them. This particular temple, however, was unique amongst all of its brethren: the bridge to get to it was completely straight and very long. The bridge was made up of a sort of marble mixture and was gorgeous, cleaned every day and simply held up to a higher standard than most other objects. It was wide enough for four average people to stand side by side and still not reach the edges, though five would be too much. The bridge that lead to the temple of the moon was where Eta-Naru Viridian, the eleven-year-old red-haired and green-eyed kunoichi of Konohagakure no Sato would be training.

Due to its length, the bridge itself was actually a very good way to train endurance - simply jog back and forth over it until you can't move anymore, and then keep moving. Viridian wasn't here to train her endurance, though, she was here to train something much more important - her speed. The girl had spent most of the day preparing, and now that there was nobody else on the bridge and nearly nightfall so that it would be cooler and easier to run, she was ready to begin. Standing at the edge of the bridge closest to the temple, she made a mental countdown from four and waited until she hit zero to take off, sprinting as fast as she could to get to the other side.

One, her mind counted. Two, it continued. She made the count in her head as she controlled her breathing and continued as fast as she could trying to reach the other side. Her feet slamming on the stone below her with every exhale was a nearly soothing sound, the training something she loved. Her arms pistoning back and forth, Viridian moved as fast as she could, until she reached the very end of the stone bridge. Completely out of breath, the girl leaned over and placed all her pressure on her knees to support herself, gasping for air. Forty seven seconds...

Shinobi were trained to be faster and stronger than civilians. It took her one-hundred and eleven to walk from edge to edge of the bridge, and sprinting was apparently just below one third of that time. She could go faster, though, she knew she could. As she continued panting and trying to regain her breath and fill her lungs with oxygen, she girl stretched upward to allow her body a moment more to rest.

After catching her breath, the girl walked to the other side of the bridge again, keeping her mental count as she did so. When she reached the end, the count was identical to the one before it; one-hundred eleven seconds. Leaning over and shifting her weight, she prepared to run again. Her legs twitched with readiness; a bead of sweat embraced the curvature of her cheek and rode all the way to her chin, dropping off onto the ground. This time, she made no mental countdown, simply preparing herself until she took off and started down the bridge once more.

One, she counted again. Two, it continued. Each time the ball of her foot was just about to leave the ground, she forced all her might into it, increasing her stride as she brought the other leg into place. Each time her arms moved back and forth, her legs did the same and she made her way towards the end of the bridge, until she finally reached it right as she counted the last number; Forty three.

I'm getting faster then, she stated calmly in her head, though physically she was on one knee trying to catch her breath again. Despite her rather decent endurance, sprinting at top speed - or, rather, sprinting past her top speed - wasn't something she was used to, and did a number on her body. I can still do faster. I know I can.

Getting irritated at herself, she got ready to run again though she was still breathing fairly heavily. Getting ready to count, the red-haired girl took off again towards the opposing end of the bridge. Her feet slammed on the stone below her as she ran faster and faster, her mind keeping track of each passing second until eventually she reached the end, only barely managing to slow down and stop before she crashed into the wall, laughing to herself as she fell onto her rear end and laid on the stone. Thirty nine.

The girl wasted no time. She crossed her legs and brought herself to a sitting position, closing her eyes and clenching her hands shut softly. She lowered her head and let it rest as she continued trying to catch her breath. Sitting there on the stone under the red light of the sunset, the girl looked nearly peaceful, and not unlike a statue.

With her mind's eye, Eta-Naru Viridian pictured the diagram of her chakra flow as seen in a picture from her time in the academy and watched it flow while she meditated. It was going everywhere in her body, reaching everything that it needed to and sometimes slowing down or speeding up. This confused her, because there was no reason she could think of for the flow of her chakra to slow down or speed up, but instead it should remain consistent. Focusing on the actual flow of her chakra instead of the picture of it, the very young genin kunoichi attempted to refine the flow, but could feel no difference.

"This is stupid," she muttered under her exhale. Meditation was something she had always admired in those who could do it, but it wasn't something she herself could do. "Maybe if I had someone showing me what to do..." As if a godsend, a voice was heard right behind her.

"Trying to meditate, little girl?" Viridian knew full well she could handle herself in a fight against a single person, and she didn't sense anyone else around her except for him, so she didn't open her eyes. She nodded and confirmed his thought, instead trying to focus on her meditation. "If you're trying to focus on your chakra, might I offer a different solution?"

Opening her left eye and pushing it as far as it will go, the girl watched the man in the white robe behind her as he kneeled down and sat on his heels - a standard position for anyone to sit in - and placed his hands together at the fingertips, exhaling slowly and inhaling slower. She could almost see the waves of chakra through him just in his meditation, and she suddenly realized that this was the very man she'd seen just over a month ago in the forest when she was first training her endurance. Whoever he was, he was no civilian - he had to have at least some training in Ninjutsu to be able to contorl his chakra like that.

Once again he spoke to her, though the girl remained quiet throughout the ordeal.

"Sitting with your legs crossed as you have them disrupts the flow through them and caused unnecessary conflicts. Sitting like this while meditation, on the other hand, will produce a nice straight flow of chakra and nothing will be disrupted." The girl nodded and shifted to sitting in his position, now directly in front of him and facing him. She placed her fingertips together and exhaled slowly, controlling her body and feeling the chakra pulse through her system. "In order to truly be able to unlock the secrets of your chakra, you must meditate at least once a day, though the length is up to you. You'll simply know when you've meditated long enough for the day, if you pay attention."

Keeping her eyes closed, Eta-Naru Viridian continued her inhaled soft and exhaled soft pattern of breathing, her legs not even being strained by her small weight on them. IT had felt like only minutes before she heard the birds around her and opened her eyes softly to see the sunlight creasing over the horizon.

"Wh..what?" She stated quietly, noticing the rays of warmth feel like a soothing blanket around her. The man in white was nowhere to be seen, though common sense told her he had simply gone inside. She stood up, surprisingly not aching from the position she'd apparently slept in, but then she noticed that, unlike when she normally slept, she didn't feel tired. This was something... new. She felt energized, like she'd just finished training physically, and still aside from that something else was there, something different.
