Mission Objective: In order to keep accurate track of the various forms of wildlife in the forests of the fire country, Yoroi is sent out to stalk animals, find where they live and take note of whether they have younglings or not. This is to keep nature from being eradicated through means of poaching. If dens and burrows are to be found, they are to be put on the map so people will know where they are not allowed to go during breeding seasons.

Yoroi Kaguya

The mission Yoroi had been sent on today was one of the few he actually felt like doing. Unlike the ones he had been sent on in the past years, this mission did not involve the killing of other people, aiding lazy civilians with problems they could easily solve by themselves or covering up something for the higher ups of the village that could create chaos within the village hidden in the leaf. Because he did not want chaos in his village and somewhat liked the peacefulness of it all, Yoroi had done everything he had been tasked with without stating his opinion on the matter, knowing that no one would actually care about how he felt. After all, he had met with the Hokage when he was showing Ophelia the village, only to be treated like trash and get escorted out of the building. Normally, he could have dealt with it, though it was at that time that he had lost track of Ophelia, and that was something that really ticked him off a lot, something he blamed the Hokage for. Whatever had happened could have easily been avoided if he had taken the time to talk to one of his most powerful Shinobi and his friend. But no, it just had to be like this.

Shaking the thought, Yoroi prepared a small pouch with equipment he could use on his latest mission. His mission was to go out into the wilderness as a means of stalking the children of mother nature, to map the burrows and dens of the creatures that made the forests of the fire country their home. Whether this involved birds, reptiles or mammals, every creature had to be added to the archives of the fire country. Placing the majority of their dens and nests on a map, the village would be able to ensure the survival of it’s native wildlife, having no intention of letting the animals that live around them to die. The mission itself had been issued because Yoroi was one of the people that believed in the preservation of nature. If he had been living in any other village, he had most likely been turned away while they laughed at him behind his back, though the village of Konoha was one of the few that actually cared about it’s environment. After all, without its wildlife being kept alive and in check, a lot of Konohagakure’s stores and restaurants that thrived of them would run out of business, in turn damaging the economy of the entire country.

The reason why Yoroi had been picked for this mission was because of some extremely simple reasons, though the first and foremost one was the fact that he had grown up in the woodlands and spent the majority of life inside of them. He knew the kinds of creatures that lived in the forest, just like he knew where to find them and how to track them to their lair. Most of the creatures that lived here had already met their match against Yoroi, whether they were squirrels or mountain lions. Having totems made out of their bones to prove it, he set out into the wilderness with one specific animal in mind. The deer was one of the animals that was hunted for it’s meat the most in the fire country, for it was a delicacy reserved for the rich and privileged. Because of this, a large amount of Konohagakure’s restaurants wanted their meat on the menu, even if it were just to prove their status as one of the finer dining places in the village of opportunity. That said, deer meat tasted horrible without any salt, while it was also horribly tough to chew to those that did not have his sharp teeth.

Knowing why they were hunted, he also had figured out a way in which he could easily follow the example of the poachers by applying their skills with his own. Carrying a satchel of goods, he knew the kind of stuff that these deer would be drawn to, this being specially baked herb bread that he himself often ate for breakfast in order to get some healthy greenery inside of his body, being a fanatic anti-vegetarian. Already knowing exactly where he wanted to put out his food for the trap, he made his way towards a large clearing in the forest. Being surrounded by trees and shrubbery made it easy for the grazing herd to dash whenever one was to get close to them, something Yoroi had witnessed time and time again. After a while though, one got used to the mannerisms of his prey, which allowed Yoroi to capture several of the creatures in traps or through means of clever stalking. At the time however, he caught animals for the sake of killing them and sustaining himself out in the wilderness. Life was hard when one did not have the luxury of family and a community to help keep one from getting ill, underfed or dehydrated. Luckily, Yoroi’s wit had managed to keep him alive for a large amount of years, this being why no regular Shinobi could stand up to him.

Only when one could think and act like an animal could one survive in a world that was ruled by them. No ordinary human child would be able to survive as long as he had without adapting to their surroundings and becoming an animal. No one knew this about Yoroi outside of his sister and the people that had run into him in his bewildered state. Even though that was all behind him now, the experience of those years would never leave him, making him a better and more capable person because of it. Arriving at his destined location, he could tell that there were already several older deer walking around, probably hiding their fawn in the tall grass. Ever since he was a child, he could never bring himself to kill the ones he believed to be the mother of a fawn, something one could easily tell just by looking closely. Some looked after themselves while others would first set out to collect their young before rushing off into the treeline. Taking a big stick from the ground, he bent his arm back and tossed it as far away into the bushes as possible, creating a large amount of creaking, breaking and bending noises as it made contact with the foliage. Needless to say, every single one of the deer that heard this instantly responded, raising their ears and looking into the direction of the noises.

Thanks to the behavior of the mothers when they heard the rustling, he could tell that there were fawn involved here. Lowering themselves into the grass, he could see the fawn dashing out of the tall grass, heading into the forest that surrounded it. Shortly after the young were secured, the mother went after them to make sure they would not get lost. Every fawn had a specific scent to them that allowed the mother to sniff them out. If a human was to ever touch the fawn, their scents would mingle and the mother would become incapable of telling whether or not the fawn was hers, leading her to completely abandon it. Some smart hunters washed themselves in the river while rubbing the scent of a fawn over their body, after which they would then hide themselves from view. When the mother came to look for her child, she would be easily overtaken due to the sheer amount of surprise washing over her and rendering her incapable of running or fighting back in time, thus getting killed, skinned and taken in to be processed into food. Despite it being smart, it was somewhat tragic how the smart methods of finding lost fawn was used against the unknowing mothers.

Yoroi Kaguya

The more he took in about the things that were taking place right in front of him, it seemed like it had completely slipped his mind that this grazing area was in fact what served as a home to these animals. After all, deer did not sleep in burrows or dens, they just slept in tall grass or beneath the trees. This place had all of that, and with the large amount of fawn that were darting through the grassland, it became clear that this was the place that had to be marked on his map. The fact that he only figured all of this now was quite upsetting, believing himself to be quite the tracker, yet forgetting some of the basics about the animals he had stalked and hunted for years. Releasing a deep sigh, several of the alerted deer turned their attention to him, releasing the strange tones they made when they had seen a possible predator or another invader. Banding together into a large group, Yoroi lowered himself to blend in with the shadows cast by the trees. For a moment, he believed that the creatures had not yet caught wind of him, and if they had, that they might have lost him when he hid from their piercing gaze. What came next was proof that he was right about his assumption, proving that this was indeed their home turf. Hearing a loud howl coming from the treeline, the majestic stag came marching out into plain sight, ready to defend it’s fawn and it’s herd from the predator.

Knowing full well what it felt like to be impaled by the sharp protrusions on the antlers of a stag, Yoroi softly made his way back into the forest, knowing all that he needed in order to finish up this mission of his. It was not often that Yoroi got to see one of the majestic creatures up close, so this must have been his lucky day. A part of him wanted to stay and look a little longer, though he knew that he had bothered these animals enough already, leading him to take his leave and return to the main road. Once he returned to the Roiyaru road, he set himself down on one of the large rock formations standing at the side of the road. Taking out the map he had been given, he took out a large red marker and circled the area in which these animals had made their homes. While he did so, he could not help but think that if this map were to be used for the wrong reasons, it could lead to the eradication and processing of all the deer that were present in the grassy knoll. If such a thing was to happen, he was the one responsible for it, though he would also know exactly whom he needed to punish for it. Within the village, there were but a few people he liked while all the others were nothing more than trash to him.

If the village was to abuse the information Yoroi was passing on to them as a means of boosting their own economical growth, he would see to it that lives were taken for every animal killed. He would not kill civilians, no, he would kill the fatcats responsible for the slaughtering of the creatures, the ones who ordered it to happen and benefited from it the most. Despite his cynical nature, there had been no indication that this mission was to be anything else than what they had told him it was, a mission to protect the wildlife of the fire country. Keeping the thought in mind, he had just put down one of the largest inhabited areas in which these animals could live in peace, at least without being bothered by humanity. One could not stop nature from killing it’s own creations, though humans had released themselves from nature a long time ago when they gained their sentience and started building their cities and waged wars. With this information, he could see to it that no more nature was wrecked in order to expand the Shinobi villages. Clenching the map in his fist, it was time to return to the village so he could drop it off and collect his money for another completed mission.
