| It was not a nice day, rain dripped from the leaves high above the Konoha Experienced Genin’s head. Rin had been sent out on a mission of low importance. There were certain type of leaf that the hospital needed to treat a dying patient. Another problem with the mission was this, the only place to find these herbs was the forest of death. Having left Kuro alone back at his house the boy was alone. It was a nice tranquil place. He had heard many stories about the beasts that lived in this forest, but he would be in and out in no time at all. As long as he did not die in the process. But the chances of that were quite slim. Since he was fully equipped for action he felt like he was ready for the worst. Grasping the hilt of his sward Rin carried on. The plants that he was looking for were right in the heart of the forrest. So most likely he would be in and out in a few hours.
Walking over large tree roots the shinobi saw nothing. It was almost too quiet. Many times had he heard about how dangerous this place was. Yet on this day it seemed rather normal. Probably everyone exaggerated or all the animals were sheltering from the rain. Either way it would most likely be best if he got in and out before he had time to find out. The quicker he moved the easier it would be for the Genin to get there so he sped up. Soon he would reach the rank of Chuunin and he would be able to get to join the ANBU. From there the only way was up. He would reach Jonin quickly. From the various assassinations, of Nukenin and corrupt daimyo. He could not wait for these future days. They would be better than anything he had done recently. Still he had to think of himself as being very lucky. He had been on two A rank missions in his life so far, not many Genins could say that.
It had been a shame about his previous team. Since he was not happy with his current one he wanted to be back with Toshiro. While it had been fun while it had lasted he wished he could do one more mission with him. It would be something that he wanted to do before he died. Maybe, when he got to a high enough rank the shinobi would see if his former mentor wanted to do a mission with him. It would be fun, especially if by that time he was able to fight on equal terms with the snowy haired ninja. But that was unlikely to ever happen. He wished that Kuro was with him now, he would have liked to have the cat to keep him company. This place was too dangerous for his feline friend however. The only reason that he had been chosen to go was that he could be trusted to succeed. Over the past few months, despite his low rank, people had noticed his growing potential. Which was great, he hoped it would be able to blossom. Every day of training was one step closer to his dream.
Remembering the map he had been studying over the past few hours he remembered that he was half way there. Having been told to only collect twenty of the leaves he would be able to get out soon. These leaves were in a section of the forest on a group of bushes. He had been shown exactly where on a map the day before. It had been imprinted on his memory so he knew exactly where to go. He hoped that it was not long until he reached the destination, the boys legs were burning. Not been doing enough fitness recently was his excuse. Soon he would need to get back into the swing of things. Then he would be back to full strength and getting ready for more important missions. Although there were not many fun C rank missions about at the moment. He would have to wait until later when there were some better ones. As he made his way closer to the bushes he began to hum. It was not usual for him to be alone, normally his cat could be seen anywhere near him. Even after this short time he felt alone, but that might be due to the atmosphere of the forest.
Finally he arrived at the place where he was meant to be collecting the leaves. A large group of bushes sat in the centre of the clearing. They rustled lightly, probably from the wind. Stretching out his back and arms Rin started towards his targets. Making his way towards the leaves he started to roll up his sleeves. Picking the first few leaves he carried on until he had got more than half way to completion. Then something happened that he could never seen possible. No wonder he had not seen any animals, they were all sheltering. But now he certainly felt the wildlife. In terror he looked down at his arm. A long, black snake had it’s fangs sunk into his flesh. Letting out a yell Rin tried to yank it out but failed. After twenty seconds he drew his katana and cut the body away from the head. Then he prized the head away and discarded it. He was unaware whether the snake was poisonous. Turning away from the bushes he started to run with all his might. If it was venomous then he may be able to get the anti toxin. Stumbling in blind panic the Genin blinked back tears. What a stupid and pointless way to go. He knew that it would all be alright in the ned though. There was no way he would die, it was unlikely that the snake was poisonous anyway.
Sprinting at his full pace for fifteen minutes he finally had to stop. It was becoming almost impossible to breath. His saliva glands were working in overload. It was pointless going on. In the case with many poisons they acted faster the quicker you moved. He could cut off the area but he could end up bleeding to death. That and the toxin had more than likely already spread to further around his body. Sitting down with his back against a tree he screamed. Tears stinging his eyes, he did not want to die. He had plans, dreams for the future. But it must have been fate that this would happen. He should never have let Kuro stay at home. All attention was focused on his pet. Closing his eyes Rn started to wish him well. Then to his family in the Land of Iron. Finally to his mother, he would be seeing her soon. If he was going to die here he would rather make it quick. All samurai were taught to die in honour. There was no honour in dying, crying on the floor. Standing up he straightened his clothes. With a deep breath the Konoha born Genin withdrew his katan and put the tip to his wind pipe. Closing his eyes he pushed it suddenly into his windpipe. There the boy stood, choking on blood and metal. |
