| I never understood why this was a thing, but it's completely unnecessary to not allow people to see what is happening in the other villages. Activity wise, it must seem (for people from Kiri and Kumo) like the site is dead xD For Konoha-ians, it must seem like no one else is doing anything. For guests or grey-members, it must seem like no one is roleplaying on the site, period.
Point is, if you can see other people roleplaying:
a) You can enjoy everyone else's characters + writing.
b) If all the other villages are roleplaying, it shows that the site is active and hopefully, it inspires members to roleplay.
c) If the site seems more active, it's more likely people will join it.
If you want to do super-secret evil planning, do it over pms or skype. (especially since both Zack and Amy/Darius are staff members so they can see said evil plans anyway)
And if you're absolutely paranoid about people posting where they shouldn't be, make it so that you can't post but can view. It's not exactly hard to do so. |

So uhm... I guess you guys can count me as proof to everything that's been pointed out about activity. Especially:

Someone from here invited me to join some time back at another Naruto board. But it never seemed like the place was active. Which left me scratching my head because the place "seemed" really active everywhere *except* for the roleplaying forums. Thus I never made a character since it looked like the roleplaying forums combined got like... half a post every day. Never had a clue it was because I just couldn't *see* what everyone was doing.
Hell peeps. If I could have seen that the place was active, I would have been roleplaying here like... a year ago. Possibly the same for others too. ^^; |

Just wanted to add my bit :3 |

| If I am totally honest, I like things the way they are.
I mean, we have some cold war shit going on, while the Missing Ninja are growing in numbers. I think it's only fun for everyone to not know anything about what's going on outside of the village they are in. It means people will need to sneak in and do things by themselves or go elsewhere to spy on people, rather than already knowing. Besides, giving everyone viewing rights simply allows for too much Metagaming, so lets just keep it the way it is. |

| .-. people metagame regardless. If you allow a tiny bit more of metagaming in exchange for a swell in numbers, it's a good trade. |

| What the heck does it matter about people knowing stuff? Hardly anything is secret on this site, since everything gets chatted about in cbox. You said that yourself earlier, too Rookie... |

Exactly how would something trivial like this cause a "Swell in numbers"? You act like this will bring 50 people to the site, just because they can see things now.
And Sora, I was talking about people sharing their plans with others in the Chatbox. Besides, one person saying something and having flat information gained through the reading of whatever the hell one wants to read is a big difference. |

I'm used to hidden forums because I've been on sites that used them even more excessively; but many people (especially the 'new generation') is used to very simplistic forums. Indeed the vast majority of Naruto sites have open forums, so that everyone knows what's happening everywhere and newbies can gauge which village is active, which village has the best writers, the most interesting topics etc. At the moment, when someone new joins , he can only base his decision on what people post in his introduction topic or rely on his personal preference (which tends to be Konoha). And anyhow, it's stupid how there is about 30 of us, but we can only enjoy the writing of a very limited number of said 30. |

^ all that.
So what if people know things? If they try to meta-game, I can assure you that either staff or the more active and loyal members would be quick to catch that and do something about it. This is one of the very few sites I've been on that doesn't allow people to see everything that is going on everywhere, and I gotta say there has never been a problem with meta-gaming on all the sites I have been on that allow members to see eeeeverything.
People like being able to see what is going on in each village, and as said before by other people, then it really affects new members when they come to this site and perhaps don't see any activity at all. I know I often get thrown off when I only see activity in introductions and OOC threads.
And this whole 'war thing' that is being talked about.. like really, I don't think there is any information classified anywhere because people talk. A lot. xD |

| Personally, I'd rather run the risk of occasional, increased probability of metagaming, which the staff can always keep an eye on, if it means members would be able to make more informed decisions about where and whether they want to roleplay here, which could potentially increase the number of active roleplayers here on US and create a richer roleplaying experience for us all. |

| What in the hell are you going on about now? Stop wasting my time. |
Pretty much everyone metagames at some point. Our duty as staff is to step in and thump people when they start getting too blatant about it. But I digress, it would be much more beneficial to the site if you didn't have to already possess a character in order to know how active it is. |
