Um. New question.

So, I see that people are aligned with a village and I thought it would be cool to join one. When I checked, the villages said they were closed. How would I be able to join? Is it one of those where I need to ask the "Village Leader" if I can join?

The villages are all open for joining, no need to ask! All you do is put the desired village in your character application. You'd only need to ask the respective village leader if you wanted to try and get permission to start at a rank higher than genin.
