| Fear The Fever
Heat.
Heat was the first thing she felt. Her body was burning up, her blood seemed to want to boil her alive as it rushed through her body. She could feel nothing else, nor guess where she was and honestly she didn’t care. She just wanted this heat to disappear. It was too much than anyone could possibly bear and she was surprised she was still alive. For a moment she wondered whether she had actually caught fire or if it was just her imagination that was playing tricks on her mind. But then again such a strong sensation couldn’t just be ‘wished upon’ or imagined. This feeling was beyond imagination or compare to anything she had ever felt in her entire lifetime. She couldn’t really determine if it was pain that she felt or heat. It was so intense that it didn’t really make a difference either way. She was still curious though. Her mind was occupied by the heat, distracting her pretty much from anything else that would have otherwise reigned her memories. She barely even remembered who or what she was. She tried to move her eyes, but realized that it caused her eyeballs to burn up even more. It felt as though someone had taken them and thrown them into boiling water. She tried to open them but met resistance. It wasn’t like she couldn’t open them, it was more that something wouldn’t let her. She moaned.
Light.
The redness she was seeing now lit up considerably and brought more pain to her eyeballs, replacing the burning heat for a few seconds. It was a pleasant change and she wished it would have lasted longer but her eyes grew accustomed to the light and the heat returned even more penetrating than before. She couldn’t feel the light on her skin. She concluded it was technical light and not that of the sun, for she would have certainly noticed the difference. It would have felt kinder. Still she tried to feel a little bit more comfortable now and felt like she was slowly waking up from her slumber. A sudden stinging pain crossed her legs which caused her to inhale sharply, which in turn brought unbearable pain to her face. Her fingers contracted forcefully, grabbing something rough and cool in the process. She concentrated on that feeling and slowly twisted it around in her fingers, the coolness of it delivering relief for only but a moment before the heat returned. The fabric turned warm now for her hands were sweaty and burning up, leaving stains on it. She could feel warm sweat rolling down her temples, caressing her cheek until it reached her jaw and fell down onto her chest. She knew this fabric all too well. She was in a hospital.
Noise.
First, hasty steps rushing to her side and just standing there. She didn’t know if they were looking at her or at something else. She tried to move but found that she couldn’t for she was strapped to the hospital bed. What was going on? Why was she tied? The steps took hasty steps outside again, almost running. She could hear their anxiety and worry that came from them. Was it her they were worried about? She breathed heavily and started regaining her sense of touch gradually, for she could feel something inside her nose. It was cold and smooth, soft one might say. It was bothering her, but she couldn’t reach out to take it out so she just had to bear with it for now. The anxious feet returned with an additional pair of feet following them, heavier this time. It was a man. He neared her like the other feet had done before, which she now assumed belonged to a female, and just stood there. Slowly she could hear muffled noises around her at a lower volume. They sounded like voices. They definitely were voices and they were coming from the feet. They were male and female, just as she had suspected. She was starting to regain all her senses gradually as the minutes flew by when she heard “Lessen the morphine”. So she was on drugs. Funny, for she could still feel all the pain. It seemed the drugs she was being administered were nothing compared to the drugs she did at home, so she was immune to them. This was the one time she hated herself for doing any kind of drug. She usually didn’t regret any of her choices, but at this very moment she wished she had never laid a finger on drugs…or that they’d eventually catch up and give her stronger pain killers. Ice cold hands touched her eyes which made her want to scream in pain and sigh in relief at the same time. She felt a slight pulling at her eyelids as something came off them; the thing that was hindering her from opening her eyes. It was tape.
She opened her eyes and her pupils adjusted to the light as she looked around the room. At the feet of her bed there was a silver haired man standing, a Band-Aid over his right eye while his other one, brilliantly golden, looked at her with worry. Who was that? |

| Her red eyes focused on the person in front of her. Silver hair, brilliantly golden eyes, tall. Flashes of scenes of him and herself dancing jumped into her mind as she looked at him confused. His eyes worried even more as he turned to the doctor and whispered with him obviously about her. “…brain damage….memory loss…in a few days…don’t worry.” That was everything the red haired girl could manage to discern from the whispers, as she realized that she didn’t even know her own name. She started to panic; her heart rate rose drastically and the both of them turned to look at her. The doctor rushed to her side, calling over nurses. “She’ll go into shock!” he said loudly enough for everyone to hear, as the nurses started preparing the crash cart. The golden eyed man pushed himself through to the female and grabbed her hand, caressing it. “Ophelia, look at me, look at me.” He intensely said as he looked at her with tears in his eyes, smiling though. He caressed her hair. She turned and looked at him. Ophelia….my name….Ophelia…Uzumaki! memories of her childhood jumped back as she realized what and where she was. Her heart rate dropped back to normal as the doctor and the nurses let out a sigh of relief, never stopping checking her vitals, though. They were still concerned that she might crash.
The man took a deep breath. “How do you feel, Ophelia?” he asked her as he seated himself on her bedside, his eyes never leaving her fragile existence. She didn’t know how she felt. Well, she felt a little dizzy and nauseous but that was hardly what the man meant. He wanted to know if she remembered anything. “I…um” she started but stopped, somewhat embarrassed at what she was about to ask him, “…do I know you?” The man’s golden eyes retracted violently as confusion overtook his facial expressions for only a second, but still enough for her to notice and feel bad. He smiled so as to reassure her that it was okay. “I’m Akihiko Mizushima. Your friend. You’re in a hospital in the Lighting Country. Remember?” he said all the while smiling to make her feel safe and comfortable. He whispered. “Your mission to capture me? Remember?”
Ophelia’s eyes sprung wide open. “Aki…hiko..” she let out with difficulty as she remembered what had happened to her. Oh my god…she thought. He had lost his eye. She instantly felt terrible that she had cut out his eye in the battle. But the man seemed to be in no pain. “I-….I’m so sorry about your eye….I know that that doesn’t heal it but-” she was cut off with a movement of his hand letting her know that it didn’t matter. “The doctors restored it.” He said and smiled at her once again. “It is healing right now, so I keep the band aid on.” Ophelia smiled in relief. He would be able to see through that eye again, what a relief. Idiot….should have run when he could…..hahahaha…. a dark voice appeared inside her head which caused every inch of her body to tense up. The Sanbi. It wouldn’t let her rest for even a minute. It was always there, telling her what to do and how to do it. And she couldn’t even block it out anymore, she had to bear with its presence for the rest of her days. She panicked and her temperature rose abruptly and she started sweating and breathing heavily in and out taking deep breaths. “What what’s wrong?” he asked and stood up, anxious now about what was happening to her. He reached out to touch her forehead but his hand was thrown aside by the Uzumaki’s own hot hand. He looked at her confused as he turned silent and just stood there. “Maybe you should go.” Came out lastly out of her mouth, advising him to leave her side. He looked at her surprised. “What are you talking about?” he laughed uneasiness in his voice “I told you I wouldn’t leave you.” He tried to come near to her but she looked at him, panic in her eyes. “I’m never alone.” She finally said as she bent over, her arms holding her up sitting on the bed. She breathed heavily as she stared into her lap. What was happening to her?
We should finish him…
She pressed her eyes together as her eyes filled up with tears ready to fall. “I can’t control it.” She barely managed to say before tears drowning her voice. Akihiko’s face took on an understanding and sad expression as he walked towards her and took her hand into his only for her to quickly pull it away. He smiled. “I know” he said.
“Maybe you should go.” She repeated without looking at him. She was scared that she would do something to him. She was afraid that she wouldn’t be able to protect him, or anyone for that matter from the monster inside her. When she had made that deal with Isobu she never imagined having to face such severe consequences. Constant fear of failure in exchange for immense power. “I told you I wont lea-”
“It wants to kill you….it wants to tear you apart!!!” she shouted in agony as she breathed even more heavily, struggling to separate the thoughts of Isobu from her own. Akihiko closed his extended palm and sighed. What she didn’t understand was that he didn’t care. He knew about her and the Bijuu, but all he wanted to do was help her control it and get revenge on the people that wronged him and her. He wanted to be her friend and guide her through with this difficult task at hand. We’ll consume him…and then spit him out! Hahahahhahah!! The maniacal laugh reappeared and sent shudders down the Uzumaki’s spine. Tears dropped down from her chin and onto her lap as her hands curled into fists. She feared the fever for it meant that Isobu could roam free and unbothered inside her fragile mind. “I’m here.” He only said and remained silent.
Ophelia had had enough. Wasn’t it enough that it was hard to contain the Bijuu, now she also had to actually chase away the one person she liked? She didn’t like anybody. And then there comes this guy who is perfect but she has to make him hate her so he won’t be in danger. Could life get any more unfair? She pressed her teeth together as she violently stood up and approached Akihiko in a hostile manner, a red aura around her body. Her eyes had turned all serpent-like. She grabbed his arm with her hand and held it really tight, the aura poisoning the area and the pressure threating to break his bones. Suddenly he found himself in a dark room, underwater, but still able to breathe. He was not alone, for a dark presence hung in the air, approaching him as every second passed by. A pair of red eyes appeared out of nowhere, laughing maniacally once again, rushing towards him. A great fear made itself known inside the Mizushima’s heart as he closed his eyes thinking he’d die any moment now. However, when he opened his eyes he was back in the hospital room, Ophelia standing in front of him, her head hanging low as she breathed heavily. “Can you feel it now?” she hissed at him before feeling so dizzy that she would have fallen down if it weren’t for Akihiko to catch her. He looked at her with compassion; he had just been inside the girl’s mind and had seen the Bijuu with his own eyes and he was terrified. And Ophelia went through that every day of her life. How horrible. He helped her sit back on the bed and took a seat himself, brushing her hair from her face.
“Ophelia,” he started, “I’m here to help you. I won’t desert you and I won’t back down. Do you understand?” he said and searched her eyes. When he did not find them he reached out for her cheeks and turned her head gently towards himself. “I won’t leave you.” He repeated. She looked at him, tired and scared, as if she knew what the ending of this story was already. He would leave her, it was a matter of time. Ophelia had tremendous abandonment issues. She feared coming emotionally close to people because she feared that she would like them but they would not like her and leave her in the end. Too much pain all these situations, so she preferred avoiding them for good; even if that meant missing out on some fantastic people.
“You’re not safe here” she whispered, “I’ll only bring you down.” He looked at her with these big golden eyes of his full of compassion and understanding. Akihiko leaned forward and put his arms around her. “I will always be by your side. You understand that?”. The girl nodded. “I will always be by your side.” He repeated. Ophelia frowned in confusion.
“I know…” She said, lost in her thoughts.
“No, you don’t. I will always be by your side.” She turned serious now and turned to look at him.
“I know.” She said.
“No. Listen to me Ophelia. I will always be by your side.” He continued saying.
“I know that.”
“I will always be by your side.” She turned dead silent and closed her eyes.
“Don’t fuck with me Akihiko, not you.” She said as she pushed him away, her eyes misty already.
“I will always be by your side.” Tears strolled down Ophelia’s cheeks as she buried her face in her hands.
“I can’t! I can’t! I’m so sorry!” she cried sobbing. He rushed to her and held her in his arms.
Hahahahahahaaaa.....
