| Preparations were well under way for Wolfe's day; she had lined up a trip to the fisherman's port to take on a mission. This mission only came once every three months; it excited her to be on a boat. Even though she'd heard of Fumou's reputation for winning these events, as he did share a large portion of his prize with the village, Wolfe chose to support him with this being the case. It would undoubtedly be a change of pace considering how Jutsu were banned, her physical prowess being all she had to rely on. Packing a bag of necessities including her Genin kit, Wolfe was unsure about how things would play out and what competition they'd have. It was reassuring that other teams wouldn't be as well supplied in any case. Wolfe locked her door and proceeded through the streets, buying some bait and a wire net along the way.
She hoped these items might come in handy although supplies were likely to be plentiful. People could be heard already, cheering on their favourite teams for the event and clapping wildly. Wolfe felt her heart skip a beat as she circled a corner, seeing the masses was definitely more intimidating than hearing them. She discretely raised her scarf to cover the lower portion of her face. It didn't cover much but it made her feel a bit more comfortable. Wolfe launched herself on top of some adjacent buildings; it would be far easier to reach her destination above the crowds. Kicking off building to building until she reached the port, Fumou was discussing his situation with the other shinobi. She did not recognize them, although she had not met everyone in the village. Something felt suspicious about the way he summed up her figure.
Thinking little of it for the moment and just wishing to get things under way, Wolfe patted Fumou on the shoulder to signal her arrival and boarded. There were many supplies on the boat, nets, rods, bait and even a periscope intended for looking beneath the ocean. Wolfe observed the surrounding fishermen; they had very similar equipment and it appeared nobody had a significant advantage. Fumou decided to board a few minutes later, he smiled and shouted confidently "Let's get started!" Wolfe moved in and released the sail; it flared open as a gust of wind began carrying it forward. Their competition did the same, sounds similar to that of a lion's roar filled the port, as hundreds of sails caught the wind. Wolfe made her way to the boat's starboard side, net in hand and a line attached to her.
She held the net's line and lowered it carefully as to position it correctly. Making note of the ocean's waves and taking the wind into account, Fumou controlled his boat in a very precise and expertise manner. Meanwhile the second ninja was in charge of the port side, with his own net and line. Wolfe looked over her shoulder for a moment to observe him; he didn't appear to be putting any effort into it. Worrying for a moment that he might not understand his job, she shouted out to the man. "Do you know what you're doing?!" Even though Wolfe shouted her voice was almost overpowered by the ocean. The man replied soon after, turning his entire body around as a threatened feeling came over Wolfe. "I know exactly what I'm doing.." |

| A strong fist collided with the back of Wolfe's head and knocked her out, she fell effortlessly into the water as her line caught the side. The ninja above proceeded to Fumou while drawing a kunai. The water beneath was cold and clouded Wolfe's mind, she instinctively refused to breath in it. As the waves shook the boat, her line tugged harder and shook her ferociously. Still she did not wake; Fumou began fighting with the ninja, taking the kunai to his left shoulder and being forced to the ground. The ninja kicked him in the face and forced him unconscious, removing a secret explosive tag which he set to the boat's wheel. Some time passed and Wolfe was almost out of breath, she couldn't wake herself from the blow that was delivered.
Small streaks of blood surrounded the back of her head as another tugging feeling came from the line. Suddenly she could no longer feel water as her head rose above it, a sharp pain came through her cheek as Fumou held her up. Wolfe's body was heavy but he managed to gain leverage with her line, pulling her back on board. The wheel had already been sabotaged and Fumou's chances of winning were almost extinguished. As the cold breeze hit Wolfe's face she opened her eyes, dazed still from her experience but alive. She looked over to Fumou who was checking his supplies; the ninja had already thrown most of it overboard. Struggling to even get to her hands and knees, Wolfe crawled over to the man and patted his shoulder once more.
If he hadn't come to her aid she would have drowned, her aspirations and everything that she built up to now would have been for naught. She smiled and fell back once more, staring at the sky as it all seemed lost. Without the supplies Fumou had attained, there was no longer anything they could do to win the contest, let alone the wheel being broken. Wolfe clenched her fists and in frustration began biting her lower lip. "I don't want whatever sack of shit that paid of that ninja.. To win this contest... Fumou." Hearing her clearly, the man dropped what he was doing and sighed in defeat. "We can't do anything for now, someone will be along after the event to help us back to shore." Wolfe slammed her right fist into the boat, gathering strength to stand up straight. "We're going to win, then we can both boast at the hospital as our injuries are treated."
Perseverance overcame Wolfe, taking hold of a kunai and slamming it into the wheel's core. "A few of these and you can hold onto them to steer, right?" Wolfe smirked, her determination filling the man with renewed vigour. He nodded and moved to the wheel again, Wolfe observed the kunai that protruded from his shoulder while installing the new 'wheel'. She remembered the man's face, a wanted criminal that had already murdered on several occasions. No doubt he would be a problem in future. Something was annoying Wolfe, she couldn't remember events earlier from the day but there was some extra weight. Reaching into her backpack there were some things the criminal didn't get. The net and bait that Wolfe bought earlier were still safe. It came down to the sail, a few shabbily made cuts lined its lower portion.
Wolfe stood up and began sewing it back together with a senbon and her twelve meter string. Regardless of what or who came between them and their victory today, nothing was going to stop her from trying anymore. With the wind picking up shortly after and new found hope, Fumou took control of the wheel once again as Wolfe positioned herself with the net. Plenty of fish were swimming near the top, even sharks that were attracted to Wolfe's blood. They had only two hours to catch as many fish as possible, although now it would be far more difficult with their lacking supplies. |

| Observing the situation from afar, crowds could not tell what had occurred to any of the crews. The event's controller hit the return signal, signalling across the open sea for all boats to return. Wolfe and Fumou took notice of the signal and secured their catch, rocketing towards shore with tired expressions on their faces. The effort and blood that had been put into making this mission a success was about to be judged. Showing up to the crowds were many boats, their nets held various types of sea creatures from all over the open water. Fumou's ship arrived beside another, both of their nets filled to the brim and the last to arrive. Wolfe was unsure about what they'd caught, it looked like a lot but this was still her first experience.
The man arriving beside them appeared smug; he was dealing with somebody behind a shade whose figure couldn't be made out. Sneering at the thought of it being the man that betrayed them, Wolfe launched herself onto their boat and pulled the shade aside. A fist immediately followed her action, striking her in the chest as she grabbed onto the receding arm. Wolfe fell into the water, accompanied by the one assaulting her. They came face to face as she recognized him; still in deep water nobody above could observe what happened. Wolfe exchanged blow for blow with the man, knocking the wind out of each other and turning into a battle of attrition. Their bodies became weaker with the lack of air although their motives stayed strong.
Wolfe's opposition pulled out another kunai but all of hers had been used to repair the wheel. The man she faced had already used Jutsu to blow up their wheel; if she chose to retaliate in the same fashion Fumou would be disqualified. Pulling out a senbon from her kit, it was better than nothing. Wolfe kicked vigorously and launched herself at the ninja, colliding with him as they both aimed for the neck. Fumou stared overboard as he waited to see the outcome. The bubbles that could be seen at the surface slowly came to a halt, Wolfe's body floated up with a streak of blood coming from her head. Ninja arrived to sort out the issue and swam to retrieve her. Fully awake and staring down at her opposition, her senbon had pierced front of his neck to the back of his spine.
Feeling relieved that the man was dealt with, the hands grabbing Wolfe posed no bother as they brought her to shore. Fumou stayed at the event to see the outcome, a medical ninja arrived to assist him. Wolfe fell asleep as her stamina was entirely spent, waking later to see the a figure standing over her. "The body of that criminal was taken and identified, the fisherman that hired him was new here and thought it'd be easier to take out the competition." He sighed and leaned back into a chair, Wolfe merely nodded as she gathered energy to speak. "Did we win?" Her sentence made Fumou sit forward; he looked at her in a very sincere manner. "We came second.. However, the man that came first hired that ninja. They decided due to the extreme circumstances, to grant us the prize."
Wolfe pushed herself into a sitting position on the hospital bed; she looked to Fumou with confidence. "I think we should celebrate this victory, what do you say to a night at the Broken Arms Pub?" Her idea amused the man momentarily bringing him to laugh offering an arm for her to lean on. "Sure, it will be my treat." |
