Random Popup

I'm constantly getting this "popup" asking for my username and login information. I don't really know what it is, but it's not from my computer, seeing as it happens on my phone as well when I log into the site. It pops up every other time I click on a topic. Has anyone else been getting this? Here's what it looks like:

I'm guessing it has something to do with the site, but I thought I'd post here first before deciding if I should go to the Forumotion forum to see if they know anything about it.

I've gotten it a few times too. I suppose it could be an image that has the underlying hyperlink left in it, or some sort of misplaced code on the very body/widgets of the forum that is causing this pop up to... well... pop up. Might be a good idea to look into it, because it's getting bloody annoying by now.

I get this on my iPhone, which has been giving me a few popups on weird places lately so I didn't think much of it. I don't get it on my computer or laptop but seeing as a few of you do I'll have a look around too.

I'd recommend that nobody enters their details in there and if you have already, PM me with a new password and I'll change it for you just to be safe.

This wasn't happening when I left so I doubt it's a problem with the forum templates, but it could be Serah's staff widget I guess.

I would guess it's worth taking a look at, regardless. All it takes is a simple search for the site's name, anyway.

EDIT: it could very well be a javascript code that's no longer in use, I'll check it out. If not I'll contact help forumotion.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever gotten the popup on the forum's index page, only on topics and/or posts. Has anyone experienced it on the index?

Because if no one has, then the chances of it being the widgets becomes slimmer, as they're active in the index as well, naturally.

That's a very good point. It's not javascript or the CSS or the widgets... so I'm at a loss, because the only other thing I can think of is that it's the topic body template, but that hasn't been touched since I added the theme and we haven't always had this problem. Plus I don't see how I possibly could've accidentally edited the template to do this lol. Unfortunately only Adam can check to make sure it isn't that because it has to be done with the founder account.

Yeah, exactly. I find it somewhat hard to believe that to be the case, as well, but who knows. This has only started happening one or two weeks ago, so whatever it is, it's recent. On the other hand I (and most, if not all of the other people reporting this, I assume) use adblock, so the chances of it being an ad are, as well, slim. Not only would it have to bypass adblock, which is relatively rare, but it would have to be an invisible ad, as none has ever shown up to me on US, whether this situation occurs or not.

Huh. That's interesting. I don't use the portal at all, so I wouldn't know. On the other hand, the portal does have some topics affixed there, namely the staff-created important ones, so if it is some sort of topic-related issue, it might appear through there. No clue, mostly speculating here, obviously.

Maybe THESE are our site defenses... annoy invaders and unwanted people to death. Sounds like a good plan to me, Adam should look into it.

On a second though, maybe it should be made it a bit more selective, though...
