After the Sadao debriefing he gave the boys an opportunity to ask any questions or contribute to what Sadao had offered up thus far. Shikaruto seemed to be susceptible to what Sadao had said and simply gestured that he was ready to venture off to their destination. Saitou appeared a little bit more eager, or at least was more comfortable in showing it as the skinny purple-haired youth expressed his approval for what was said and questioned his teammates if they were ready to depart. Sadao took no offense to his enthusiasm to get going, though Shikaruto face told a different story perhaps thinking Saitou was out of place to be the one suggesting this.

Although it was common knowledge and as well as general manners to let your mission leader ask these sorts of questions, Sadao would be lying to himself if he wasn’t hoping these two guys would demonstrate good leadership out in the field. After all, in the coming years they would surely be the team leaders of equally as dangerous and important missions and it was good to have the experience under your belt as soon as possible. So long as they both remained in line when it was obvious Sadao was giving an order there would be no problems amongst the threesome.

“Yes Saitou, I think now is as good a time as any.” Sadao said with a smile as he pivoted on his right heel, turning away from Saitou and Shikaruto and facing the gigantic gates that blocked their exit. As Sadao began to walk, he could hear the steps of his comrades behind him obviously following the Jounin’s lead as they would begin their journey. Sadao would approach the booth besides the village’s walls where one of the gate guards sat waiting for the three to approach. Greeting the kunoichi who was unfortunate enough to be the person manning the inside station throughout the night shift, Sadao approached with a smile

“Good morning, how was your shift?” Sadao would ask exchanging small talk as he handed over his copy of their mission document for the ninja to inspect. The kunoichi insisted that her shift was long and boring but that was good because it meant no trouble for the village and she was just about finished. As the small talk occurred the girl would stamp his paper and wave the signal to the guards whose job it was to open the large gates. As their chat concluded, the kunoichi wished them the best of luck on their mission and a safe return. Sadao thanked her and gestured his comrades to move on as the doors creaked open eerily.

Allowing just a crack of light to glare into the village from the outside, the gates only opened one eighth of their full swing, allowing Sadao and his comrades to officially start their mission. Although there was a lot of traveling ahead from this point on they were all to be on high alert for any threats. At the ranks the three of the men were at however, they could do this without being too intimidated by the big scary world. Having travelled outside their village countless times by now.

As they journeyed through the heart of Fire Country, Sadao sparked up numerous conversations with both of his companions. Topics of conversation included what ninja arts they each specialized in, as well as their elemental affinities and preferred way to approach combat. Of course, Sadao knew a lot of this information before these conversations transpired but it was always revealing to see what people thought about their own abilities and how much confidence they had in themselves.

Both Saitou and Shikaruto appeared to be relatively confident in their abilities and spoke in a humbling manor rather than lead Sadao to believe either was overconfident in their own abilities or arrogant. Sadao really was just looking to apply some depth to these boys’ personalities. First impressions can only carry them so far and Sadao definitely preferred the conventional way of getting to know people: conversation. Of course, the themes of their talks expanded way beyond things relating to the mission. Sadao was asking each of them questions about their families, their favourite places to eat back in Konoha, their favourite country to visit outside of Hi no Kuni, he was just trying to make them feel as comfortable as possible him as their team leader and quite frankly he felt like he was doing a good job.

A day which consisted of nothing but talking, walking and two rest stops for lunch and an early dinner it wasn’t long before the sun was setting on the Fire Country and the squadron was arriving at their destination. The abandoned mining town wasn’t exactly beneficial to those who would seek refuge in it, the town was easily accessible and had little natural defences to any who had hoped to enter it. Sadao would leap up into the trees that were at the entrance of the town to do a little bit of surveillance, scanning the little village for any signs of life. He could see three or four people pacing up and down the streets as if they’re jobs were to watch out for any oncoming threats. Sadao anticipated the idea of this cult leader knowing that one of the boys in his possession was of much importance to the Fire Country and would have people coming after him.

Regardless, it was apparent they were taking certain measures to ensure they could go through with their plan. Sadao continued to look over the area before him. Seeing as it was mostly dark at this point, a few lights had started to come on around the town. A big compound on the north side of the town seemed to be illuminate the most light. In fact, as Sadao continued to watch the few individuals in the streets it seemed as if they were walking in patterns each which seemed to be situated to around the main complex. As they looped around their designated paths, Sadao noticed made note of the spots where they were completely out of sight from each other, the only exception to this was two of the four followers who maintained a position in front of the compound at all times and the window of time to take out without the other noticing was too great.

The Jounin dropped back down from his tree, calling his two comrades over to him with a quick hand gesture, the two quickly made their way to their mission leader. Sadao being ready for them to prepare their assault, knew that it was time to give a direct order. “The compound at the far north of the village with the most lights, it seems like that’s where our targets are held up. There’s four aggressors watching over the building from the outside. Shikaruto, you take the one of the far left and Saitou you take the one on the right. Do it quickly, do it quietly, cover your tracks and meet me at the entrance.”

Sadao didn’t stick around to hear if there were questions, as soon as he had finished he darted from his bushes towards his two targets, hoping the boys would act with as much stealth and speed as he expected from them at this point. It was time to test the mettle of these men.

If there was anything that surprised Saitou about the way Sadao acted, it would probably have been his attitude and actions towards not just the people he was working with but everybody around him. The small talk he engaged himself in with the person on duty at the gate was most certainly unnecessary, but highlighted how he treated all of those around him with respect, regardless of their rank or position. Let us imagine one were to write a tale of the adventure before them, or a minstrel to write a song about the events that would follow. Would the woman behind the desk stamping papers even be mentioned? It was most unlikely. And yet, this experienced, seasoned veteran of the Shinobi lifestyle was treating this person with respect. Perhaps it was a lesson to be learned. Or maybe he was just a sexual deviant attempting to build up the conversation so he could hit on her; Saitou really hoped that wasn't the case. He didn't mind journeying with two other men, possibly sweating and not washing much whilst sharing a tent or spending lots of time within their proximity. But if one of them was thirty and horny, then things were different. Very different.

Their departure was far from grandiose, the resplendent doors opening only a fraction of what they were capable of. Departing to traverse was never Saitou's favourite part of any mission, but the concoction of apprehension and anticipation made him feel rather proud to be a part of this elite group. There is nothing quite like the countryside of Hi no Kuni; the rolling hills and grass fields may appear ordinary to most but when compared to a barren wasteland of desert or an urban strip of grimy concrete, such views were majestic in their nature. Saitou lapped them up as they walked, enjoying them immensely. His visit to Kumogakure had taught him never to take the sun for granted. When it hangs so high above you everyday, you expect it to always be there, a burning bright nuisance at the edge of your eye's gaze. Yet it could easily disappear, or the weather could turn for the worst. Or, in a more morbid situation, you could end up finding yourself in somewhere that was ruled by the colour grey, pavements and dull buildings your only friends.

The journey was actually enjoyable. Saitou wasn't a particularly awkward person on a social front and in awkward situations he found himself becoming shy, but those things were far from present here. Sadao was clearly an expert on group bonding. Perhaps he'd underwent such an experience many a time before, with many people. That was something that came with being a high level Shinobi, after all; his conversations were fluent and easy coming, but probing. Questions were left on their doorsteps elegantly to be answered, but not fired with force as if they were shots from a cannon, as most of Saitou's Senpai's preferred to do. It was a nice change. Every time the ball came in his court he struck with precision, aiming for the truth and returning the question. Some were pretty simple, others he had hesitate and then think about. When the gentle interrogation headed south and went to the subject of family, the youth attempted to avoid dampening the mood at all. He didn't want to portray himself as a troubled, emotional Shinobi with a dark past after all. Instead he just glanced over the subject of his deceased father, moving to the more positive note of having recently acquainted himself with his uncle near Kumogakure no Sato.

And of course, when the questions were aimed about his abilities as a Shinobi, Saitou was not short of confidence. He tried his best to remain humble and speak about himself as little as possible, whilst also giving an accurate, honest account of what he was capable of. Nobody ever liked a brag. Whilst in some situations he could big himself up, the people he was with were elite in their fields and very experienced. Sadao had been close to the fourth Hokage himself, so Saitou did not doubt for a moment that he had seen large levels of power and skill many a time before, and he wouldn't blink an eye at the purple haired youth's abilities.

Sadly, the low pressure situation of travelling and conversing was soon brought to an end, and the youth realised their destination was where they stood, and they had business to be taken care of. Sadao routinely surveyed the scene, taking the lead that was unsurprisingly crowned upon his head. His plan was basic and required no explanation. Of course, it was the matter of execution that was the real difficulty, and Saitou began to wonder how he'd go about such a task; he did not excel at stealth based manoeuvres, and his general ability when it came to infiltration was lacking as well. He'd rather be in an all out fight, jutsu and explosions emitting a fiery hell from all angles, but in a hostage situation, that wasn't much of an option. Perhaps it was good practice that he learned how to do such a thing. If he cocked up, he was at least confident in the ability of his cell members to assist in cleaning up the figurative shit storm that would be spilling everywhere, like a soupy curry.

Nodding only to signal his acceptance of the task afore him, Saitou began to move. He took a small detour, finding a low wooden fence that he could vault to let him into an overgrown area, filled with shrubberies and weeds; it was ideal for allowing him to close the distance between him and his target without being seen. Unfortunately, the area of greenery ended before he reached the edge of the compound. But now he had a much better view of the situation and could certainly see the opportunity that Sadao had spotted and identified; the movements of the men about the area were stiff and probably rehearsed. They were identical every time, and although there may have been some unseen guards unaccounted for, the task looked rather simple so far. Any trained Shinobi would have been able to deal with this situation with ease, surely? It felt a little too easy to Saitou, but he went along with it. Smearing mud from the patch of vegetation upon his already slightly tanned skin, he approached a tree, swiftly finding himself a few metres off the ground and with an improved view of his target. He waited, watching the pattern, memorising it, thinking each round the guard made about when he would strike, how long he would have.

Unfortunately, Sadao hadn't mentioned if they intended to strike in unison, which would probably be for the best. Their inability to communicate and the distance between them meant Saitou would simply have to take out his target and hope the other guards would be incapacitated at a similar moment. The leaves of the tree shrouded his view of his allies and his hands were busy keeping themselves latched around the branch he was perched upon. You could say the building itself was large, a rather traditional construct with wooden porches about its perimeter, fences adorned with heavy lighting around it. It was a fair few storeys high, and very wide. When Saitou's man rounded the porch to the right, he chose to strike. He quickly lowered himself down from the branch, careful not to rattle the leaves about. Grabbing two rocks, his individual plan of action was more than formulated and so he kept low, moving purposefully, every step calculated but the noise of his movement always a bit cumbersome. There was a flowerbed a few metres from the porch. The youth had marked this as his hiding place, but he grabbed the head of a rose and tore, ripping it from its stem. It was an elegantly pretty flower, but he really didn't give a shit; he needed the lightweight projectile it provided. Throwing the flowerhead onto the porch, just behind the guardsman, he waited. Saitou had been crouched in the flowerbed for many a moment before the useless oaf made his round once more, a repetitive pattern of his. By this time, the purple haired boy had already worked his mischief, a sneaky but very basic genjutsu of his now changing the appearance of the flowerhead into something even more appealing. Money. And not just a small amount either; when you can change the appearance of an object so easily, changing it to appear like something of great value was always guaranteed to get attention. Thousands of ryo just sitting on the floor, all for that poor man to pick up. He probably had a family to feed, ambitions to fuel, and the opportunity to effortlessly do all these things lay upon the floor just beyond him. Of course he bent down to pick up the money, everyone would.

Unfortunately for the guard, yet another misgiving was about to befall him just before he claimed his grand prize. Saitou had been nervously sat at the edge of his... well, a flowerbed isn't a seat, but you get my idea; he was ready to pounce. And so when that walrus like behemoth bowed down every so ungracefully to collect this large some of currency, the youth sprang. Sprang like the spring that brought about the flowers around him, rocks in hand. The arse crack revealed by the useless guardian of the building showed just how unprepared and vulnerable he was at this very moment; so easy to deliver two rocks to either side of the temple, the thinnest part of the skull, with a large amount of force. Annoyingly for Saitou, the noise generated by the knocking out of his hunted animal was rather great. He hit the floor with a thud, but thankfully no groan of pain. However the other guards were a while away and hopefully unconscious by now, so perhaps the noise wasn't that disastrous. Constantly employing vigilance to keep him looking around, the youth began to tie up the boulder of a human, before rolling him off the porch and into the flower bed. At this point, Saitou removed his sandals and placed them in his pack, continuing on the porch whilst making much less noise and going round to check on the status of the targets of his comrades.

PostSubject: Re: The Flock P2 [Mission, P] The Flock P2 [Mission, P] EmptySun 09 Mar 2014, 4:59 pm

Sadao brushed off Saitou’s comment nonchalantly and with a smile, turning towards the gates and leading the squad. Evidently, Sadao was a more relaxed leader than Shikaruto had first anticipated, which was good to know. Shikaruto wanted to deduce Sadao’s leadership style, so he would know how to act under his instruction. Obviously, Sadao liked shinobi who were able to think and act independently, whilst still carry an over arching power that showed that ultimately, he was the leader. From this, Shikaruto assumed that Sadao had an ego that needed satisfying, and as he was too bothered about remaining well liked within the village to do it himself, he had to rely on others to satisfy it for him. Shikaruto wasn’t sure how he would converse with Sadao yet, but he knew he would know what to say when the time came.

The kunoichi who was guarding the gates looked tired, but she responded to Sadao’s small talk in a polite manner, as she stamped the mission document and carelessly waved for the guards to open the gate. Shikaruto noticed a moment of connection between Sadao and the kunoichi, as there were flirtatious connotations to their words. Shikaruto let it go, knowing that it was all part of Sadao’s act of being an effective conversationalist. Initially, Shikaruto had been envious and impressed by Sadao’s communication skills. Now, whilst he was still envious, he was somewhat wary, knowing that soon those tactics would be employed on him, and he had better be ready when they were. Complying with the kunoichi’s orders, the guards opened the gates partially, allowing Shikaruto and the others to slip through, before they were closed again behind them. It was early in the morning, so there was no need for the gates to be wide open, allowing anyone to enter and exit the village as they pleased. There had to be precautions in place. If anything, it made their departure from the village less than spectacular, but it wasn’t as if Shikaruto had expected much.

As they exited Konohagakure no Sato, Sadao struck up small talk between the team. As they travelled, Shikaruto got to see Sadao’s conversational skills in action, but he begun to discover that perhaps his motives weren’t as innocent as they originally seemed. Whilst all of Sadao’s small talk seemed polite and friendly, merely a way to make up the time between their departure and their destination, it became obvious to Shikaruto that he had an ulterior motive. His questions were often analytical and probing, like there was hidden information in his teammates that he was desperate to discover. Shikaruto didn’t like it. He asked questions about everything; from their combat skills to their personal life. Shikaruto knew Sadao already had background information on both of them, having received their files before accepting them as teammates, which was a customary practice within the village. Therefore, his reasoning for asking questions he already knew the answers to was unclear, but Shikaruto assumed it had something to do with feeling out how they felt about themselves as shinobi, as well as learning about their mannerisms when communicating. Still, he couldn’t object for the sake of the mission, so he smiled and nodded politely, whilst giving away as little information about himself as possible, without raising suspicions. He got the feeling that both Sadao and Saitou were intuitive people themselves. When asked about his abilities, Shikaruto spoke of himself factually, and without emotion, as if he were reading a file on himself to them both. When the subject of his family was brought up, Shikaruto glossed over the fact that his father was dead, and revealed very little, knowing his father’s dead would be a valid excuse as to why he didn’t say much about his personal life. Saitou’s also stated that his father was dead, which Shikaruto wasn’t surprised at. Death was a common theme in the shinobi world, and its claws gripped everyone eventually. However, it was Shikaruto’s aim to learn more about the others than he revealed about himself. The less he revealed, the more they could wonder.

By the time they reached the little mining town, it was nightfall, and Shikaruto was tired of talking. He stood, collecting his thoughts, whilst Sadao scaled a tree and carried out surveillance on the town, asserting his position as the team leader. Shikaruto worried that Saitou might try and engage him in conversation whilst Sadao was fifteen feet above them, but he didn’t, for which Shikaruto was thankful. He’d had enough of thinking about what he was saying. Once he dropped out of the tree, Sadao beckoned Shikaruto and Saitou over to him and gave them an explanation of the four guards protecting the town and how they were positioned. He gave direct orders for them to split up, showing his assertive side as a leader. Shikaruto was tasked with taking out the guard on the left. Nerves quickly built up within him, as he realised that this was the first time since becoming a shinobi that he had been ordered to kill someone. How he got to the rank of Chūnin without killing someone was beyond him.

The group quickly split up as they entered the town, and Shikaruto immediately wondered how they would cope with the lack of communication. It wasn’t obvious whether Sadao intended for them all to kill simultaneously, or whether they were to act independently. Given his behaviour earlier, Shikaruto assumed the latter. It appeared that this was the opening task for Shikaruto to prove himself to his comrades. Dipping behind a building to the left, he glanced up the street and immediately saw his target. Peeking his head out from behind the building, Shikaruto watched the man’s steps, and saw that he appeared to be walking in a predetermined pattern that he was very bored of. The guard’s steps were almost mechanical, and it was obvious he wasn’t paying any attention to what he was doing. Evidently, he didn’t think there was a reason for him to be out guarding the town at this time of night. Withdrawing a shuriken from his ninja kit, Shikaruto watched the guard repeat his patrol routine three more times before he felt comfortable launching the shuriken. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Shikaruto flung the kunai down the street. He could hear the metal shard whipping through the wind as it approached the guard, and as he had hoped for, the shrunken sliced through the man’s jugular vein, cutting halfway through his neck, partially decapitating him, before the man fell to the ground with a thud, unable to make a noise due his extensive injuries, which were a testament to Shikaruto’s accuracy.

Running quickly and quietly up the street, Shikaruto saw that although his target hadn’t made any noise, he wasn’t quite dead yet. The blood from his jugular vein was rapidly pooling into the man’s throat and choking him to death. Shikaruto stood over him, unsure of what to do. He had never killed anybody before, in all his career as a shinobi. Yet, here he was, half way through the task, and losing his nerve. The blood building up in the guard’s throat caused him to begin to gargle and cough, and Shikaruto knew he needed to silence him immediately, otherwise he was going to draw attention to himself and ruin the mission for his comrades. The guard’s eyes were rolling back into his head at this point, as his body began to fit in response to his asphyxia. In a moment of lucidity, the guard’s eyes locked on to Shikaruto’s, and he managed to gurgle out, “Just do it.”

Out of mercy, Shikaruto dropped to his knees and put one hand over the guard’s mouth, then pulled the shuriken through his neck, fully decapitating him. The volume of blood was unreal, but it soaked up into the dry dirt and Shikaruto managed to avoid getting any on his clothes. Dragging the body by the arm and holding the guard’s head by his hair, Shikaruto dumped them into a back alley, where he was certain they wouldn’t be found until the morning, when he would be long gone. the emotions surging through him because of what he had just done were unlike anything he had ever felt before. He felt accomplished and oddly satisfied, but also disgusted in himself and a little nauseous. Staring at the mess of a corpse, the smell of blood rushed over Shikaruto and he vomited down the wall. Steadying himself, he squeezed his fists together until he managed to get a hold of himself, taking an emotionless approach to the mission and realising that this was his job. It was simply something that had to be done. Having calmed down and completed his task, Shikaruto continued north to the building Sadao had previously described, hoping to find his teammates there and carry on with their mission.
