The Sharingan, the ocular power and bloodline of the Uchiha clan, a powerful tool that made many an opponent shit their pants at the mere sight of it. Before Hiruzen awakened his, he had been a fairly decent combatant and shinobi, regarded as a prodigy among those of his age, something that was to be expected of a descendant of the Uchiha clan. When his eyes awakened themselves during the fight for the scroll of the forest country, his chakra levels had spiked beyond what had been there before. When he told his uncle Hikaku about it, he said that it was only natural as the Sharingan was supposed to be paired with the unlocking of their hidden potential. Though this had happened quite some time ago, Hiruzen was still meditating as often as he could, both to see the full extent at which his chakra pool had grown since the unlocking of the Sharingan, as well as to show his monkey friends how to do it, just like how he had been teaching them how to accurately throw a projectile, set traps using wire and nature itself, even training them in some basic armed and unarmed combat. After all, these macaques were responsible for keeping him sane when his father bullied him in a liquor induced state of anger, blaming him for the death of his mother.

Luckily for him, those days had ended a long time before his father died the death of a hero, allowing the young Uchiha to remember his dad the way a son should, as a hero, not as the bastard that made his childhood into a miserable hell. Fitting nicely into his month of training, today had become his day of quiet meditation, a day that would prepare him for the next few weeks of exercise with his band of primates. Sitting in the center of a circle made up entirely of monkeys that had become quite interested in the things Hiruzen could do, the young Uchiha sat with his eyes closed and his arms and legs in a meditative position. Around him, the monkeys tried to do the same, some even succeeding in taking on the same position as their example. For as long as he had been with them, there had always been some kind of mutual bond between Hiruzen and his furry friends that made him learn from one another every time they did something together. Just like before, it was a marvelous thing to see how the animals were trying their hardest to copy what it was that he did, even going as far as closing their eyes, breathing quietly and opening an eye every now and then to see if Hiruzen had done something different they’d need to catch up with.

Slowly, the energy rose up from his core, gradually forming a gentle and soothing aura of green chakra. At this, the monkeys seemed both a bit frightened and captivated, some trying to get closer so they could touch it, only to find their fingers passing through it like smoke. Feeling the flow of chakra inside of his body, he could feel that whatever had been down there, there was more of it ever since the mission to retrieve and protect the forest scroll. Feeling calm, it seemed that the macaques around him also experienced a similar calm as his aura of chakra seemed to envelop them all in a shroud of serenity. For a Chuunin like himself, focusing on his inner chakra was not much of a feat, though the thing that took place in front of him was worthy of his admiration. Right in front of him, a single one of the macaques seemed to have grasped what it was that he was doing, the only one that did not focus on the way they had to sit in order to meditate but focused on inner calmth and control over their own energy. While faint, Hiruzen could feel that this single primate had been able to let his chakra flow through him, just like a human being. Of all the things he had been able to teach these monkeys, of all the things he had learned from them, this was without a doubt the pinnacle.

It made him realize that if monkeys such as these could be taught how to control their own chakra, they could also be trained to mold it and even utilize it in the form of Ninjutsu. Letting his chakra aura disappear shortly after breaking his meditative seat, the monkeys that surrounded him lost interest in what had happened a moment ago, retreating to their respective spots in the hot springs. Having meditated for over two hours, it felt like he had done more than enough for today. Still quite surprised at the skill shown by at least one of the primates, he wondered if there would be a time where he would be able to teach them more than how to set traps, build weaponry and throw projectiles, things he had already deemed beyond their level of skill. How wrong he was. With his meditative training being done for the day, Hiruzen returned home to get some dinner and prepare himself for another afternoon of training and studying monkeys, still aiming to understand and even speak their language. Whether that would happen soon or remain a distant dream was a worry for another day.
