There was no rest for the weary, not with the way Saya trained. Up early each morning, those who lived on the outskirts of town were sure to see Saya running by. While Kiri was not the largest village in the world, the several miles of transit around its complete circumference made for a good jog by anyone’s standards. That run had been part of Saya’s every day life from the moment she moved to Kiri, but the jog was usually little more than a warm up.

A little over a week ago, however, Saya had taken steps to increase the challenge of, and results from, her work out. While on a voyage to her homeland for resupply, and the purchasing of new weapons, she had also picked up some heavy weights. They were advertised as the ultimate tool for increasing the potential of training, and cost Saya a pretty penny, but the functional design was appealing to her. They were slim and streamlined, each one attaching with a basic enough clasp that a child could work it. Once strapped onto the wrists and shins, they were comfortable, and almost unnoticeable, beyond the huge amount of extra weight they added.

With over 500 pounds added to her body her everyday routine was showing off all new challenges. The prospect of lugging the huge weight over a distance of miles and miles was dreadful, but she had yet to fail in. The first day she didn’t do much beyond jog the distance, but she still made it. The exhaustion and muscular anguish typically brought on by such overbearing and strenuous a work out was not lost on Saya, but she never let it stop her.

After even the first couple days Saya was back into her routine. After she finished her morning jog she would spend the rest of the day practicing with each of her weapons. She always began with her spear, as it was always on hand. Once finished she moved on to her smaller short swords, then her knives. Heavy though she is, she still keeps her body moving, constantly shifting position, hopping, spinning, and even managing to actually land the occasional flip.

The first time anyone could find something resembling a ‘break’ would be just after she was done swinging about her kunai. She manages a short rest from the endless motion of her combat practice, and just flings her knives, shuriken, and throwing axes at whatever she chooses for a target. This marksmanship practice buys her a good fifteen minutes of not being forced to jump and run around, but she still puts great effort into her work. In total she carries fifteen kunai and thirty shuriken. Throwing them each, one by one, gives her just enough time to ready herself for more strenuous activity.

In the afternoon, and well into sunset, Saya continues to practice with her more exotic weapons. Mastering the intricate movements required to fully utilize a Kusarigama while your hand has 150 lbs of weight hanging from it, is no easy matter. Throwing a chain, even flicking it in a circle to form a proper loop, is made exceedingly difficult with the abundant weight slowing Saya down.

To those who might watch her, some may have seen talent in her work. Others may have seen her as a little clumsy, and strikingly slow. The weight made her work out a good ten times more difficult than she was used too, but Saya could feel the weights working. Though she had always been in excellent shape, her muscles had grown even further toned and larger from her exertion. Not a single ounce of fat remained behind, and she was becoming nothing but toned muscle. After only the first week her figure simply radiated strength and power, and Saya has been pleased. As the instructions asked, she has hardly removed the weights. She only took them off once, on her first meeting with Demo, and even then, not for very long.

The extra effort required to accomplish even everyday tasks was paying off, and she was quickly surpassing even her own previous goals for physical speed and strength. Her normal work out was long, intense, and by most standards tiring. Saya, however, was not like normal people. She could jog home from a day’s training as easily as she could jog too it, but her training weights made all the difference.

When Saya’s daily work out is over, the sun has set. Business has stopped in Kirigakure, and for the most part all is quiet. Exhausted and worn ragged, Saya walks back to the apartment she keeps. After a good dinner she showers and sleeps. The next day has few options. If she had an assignment, she’d be forced to forsake her daily training, and get her work out on the trail. If not, she would repeat this same daily process once more, always growing stronger than before.
