| Clan Name: The Fuuma Clan Location: Kirigakure no Sato Symbol: Signature Traits:
The Fuuma clan is widely known for its special shuriken that have long ago become available to shinobi of all kinds. Nonetheless the clan itself remains a frequent distributor of this weapon. Craftsmen by nature, they maintain a good relationship with Kirigakure and most of its clans by providing them with quality weapons.
Clansmen themselves tend to craft their own weapons and take a great deal of pride in their creations. While they are true to their word and generally have strong feelings of loyalty towards both Kumogakure and the clan itself, they are also proud, stubborn and easily offended. It is said that Fuuma clansmen are known to keep grudges; any offense against them will be remembered and the offenders will be resented until the offense has been returned or the offender has somehow made it up to the insulted clansman. Members tend to be somewhat shorter than average, with wiry builds and lean physiques.
The Fuuma Clan has no true Kekkei Genkai, but rather a Hijutsu – Secret Art that is kept secret among the clan. Because of the rumors surrounding this art, the village of Kirigakure has tried to ban it as a Kinjutsu - Forbidden Technique several times in the past. The Fūma managed to fend of each attempt by threatening to stop supplying the village with their weapons, which would mean Kirigakure would have to import kunai and shuriken at a much higher cost. Nevertheless, Fūma clansmen are usually considered "creepy" for the art they practice and for their strange mannerisms, like their obsessions with weapons and their tendency to value weapons over people.
Kekkei Genkai: Misakiken – Spirit Weapon
- Spoiler:
The Fuuma is an unusual clan in that their Hiden Jutsu does not manifest itself in an element exclusive to them, nor in a special set of eyes or in a range of special techniques. Instead, the Fuuma are the only family who practice the secret art of crafting a Misakiken – Spirit Blade. These creations are, simply put, sentient weapons that the user has a mental link with. It is rumored that the famous Samehada is in fact a Misakiken. Whether this clan has connections to its creation or the secret is simply privy to certain individuals outside of the Fūma clan is unconfirmed.
These Misakiken are created through a rare metal found in a cave system that only the clan has access to. This material is a rare type of ore that is as hard as chakra-conducting metal and has the ability to contain souls. To gain a Misakiken, a clansman needs to capture an enemy shinobi and take them back to the clan compound. Through a collaboration jutsu with the clan’s elder council the victim’s soul will be sealed into the weapon, many of its past memories and most of its intelligence being lost in the process. The soul’s seal takes the shape of a single kanji somewhere on the weapon’s surface and becomes the source of the weapon’s chakra, in other words: the heart. The Fuuma clansman then links their chakra to the weapon, resulting in the shinobi’s mind dominating the more simple life form.
Misakiken come in many different shapes and sizes. While their name would suggest that they are limited to swords, this is merely a tradition alluring to the roots of the clan. These days, almost any known weapon can be shaped into a Misakiken, as such different Fuuma can have very different fighting styles based on the shape of their Misakiken. Swords, axes and sickles, but also staves, clubs and even bows are known to exist. That being said, there is a limit to what Misakiken can and cannot do.
What a Misakiken can do:
Misakiken are sentient beings, thus they possess their own chakra sources. They are capable of independent actions and can move by themselves. They can move at a maximum of a fourth of the user’s speed by themselves, although this can be increased through an ability. They can regenerate from most damage over an extended period of time, although standard-wise weapons cannot regenerate in the same thread as the damage was dealt unless through a special ability, either belonging to the Misakiken or its user. Each Misakiken can have up to three central abilities. This can be anything from in Samehada’s case chakra absorption to independent aiming to sensing enemy chakra to increased regeneration to sharing chakra with their user. The abilities can increase in power based on the user's rank. The second ability only becomes available starting with B-rank users. The third ability becomes accessable starting at A-rank.
Some Limitations:
• A Fuuma clansmen cannot have a weapon that is higher than their own letter rank. Weapons can be upgraded to a higher rank later on, increasing the power of their abilities.
• Misakiken cannot cast independent jutsu. Clansmen themselves can base jutsu around their weapons.
• Misakiken have generally limited intelligence. They can obey simple commands and can react on instinct, but are incapable of coming up with their own strategies. Their intelligence is comparable to that of a dog.
• Misakiken can be killed. While they can regenerate from heavy damage, each Misakiken has to have a heart which is also the source of their chakra. Should this heart become severely damaged, the entity in the weapon dies and the user will have to make a new one.
• Each Misakiken has about 1/4th of the user’s chakra. This has an advantage as the user can develop jutsu revolving around the Misakiken that consumes chakra of the weapon instead of the user himself. However, shinobi with chakra-detecting abilities will be able to notice the weapon, giving away its unusual nature and robbing the user of the element of surprise.
• Only one Misakiken per character. A new Misakiken can only be made when a previous one is destroyed.
• Naturally, each Misakiken has to be registered using the weapon template before they can be used.
History: The Fuuma have a reputation of being master craftsmen. Like many clans, they used to be independent in the days before the villages. During these times, they generally allied themselves with bigger, stronger clans. These clans would provide the much-needed extra manpower during wars while the Fuuma would provide them with quality weapons, such as their famous shuriken that are now used by shinobi across the world. This was back in the time where the Fuuma still lacked a distinct ability that added anything to their combat skills. While they could certainly fight and had some powerful shinobi among their ranks, the skills they employed weren’t anything beyond ordinary Kenjutsu and Bukijutsu. Thus they needed the help of more powerful clans in battle.
This all changed when Fuuma Ouda became clan head. Ouda was a powerful Kage-level shinobi who had developed the secret of creating a Misakiken or Spirit Blade. The ability was passed down through the clan, and the Fuuma quickly became feared on the battlefield for this strange but powerful ability. They no longer needed the protection of other clans, but with this victory came a downside. Instead of the allies they once had, they made enemies. Rival clans who wanted the secret of the Misakiken for themselves, and waged war on the Fuuma for it. Ouda wanted independence and power, and he got it. But it came at a price of blood. The blood of the Fuuma that died in battle against other clans, and eventually his own. For one day, he was defeated and captured by one of the clans that used to be the Fuuma’s ally. They tortured him, hoping to learn the secret jutsu directly from the master that created it. But to no avail. Ouda’s lips remained sealed until he succumbed to his injuries.
It didn’t take long for Fuuma to realize the error in their ways, and luckily for them it was around the same time the village system was started. So the Fuuma joined up with Kirigakure, using their craftsmanship to build much of the village and become Kumogakure’s biggest providers for weaponry. Many of its more skilled members have become famous shinobi in their own rights.

| My apologies for not getting to this right away.
To get a summary of the clan, you're putting a living soul into a weapon where you have a living, mental connection with the user. The item has chakra within it
I do not like assuming, but it almost sounds like a Zanpaktou in nature. Or, in Skyrim terms, it would be like the Daedra hearts to make those types of weapons. Nothing wrong with the idea, but in concept it couldn't be allowed on here.
Normally, I would see what I could do to make it balance or even try and help rework, but mechanically it couldn't work here due to the fact that a weapon cannot have it's own source of chakra or have the ability to have sentient thought and actions. Abilities such as regeneration of the blade or chakra absorption can be attached to certain weapons, yes, but the idea of putting a human 'soul' into a weapon is enough to consider this an absolute denial.
That isn't to say that I am unwilling to work with a rework. I will gladly help if you need it. |
