| The Kyosei
(Hello admins! While I've put a lot of work into this clan, I am but a newbie, so please go easy! I'm aware that there are likely some things that may need to be significantly tweaked or changed entirely. Most of the mechanics of this clan are to accommodate to a (hopefully) fun and complex character that I am making. As such, while I know it's an earful, I would really appreciate your assistance in making this clan work on this site! Some of the complex rules may inconvenience the staff and I would hate to be a burden, in which case I'm happy to dumb them down or maybe even remove them entirely. I look forward to working with you on making this clan a possibility, thankyou! ^.^ )
Clan Name: The Kyosei Clan
Location:
The leadership structure is located on a small oceanic island known as Sadachi island (For topic locations sake it would be in the minor nations). The Kyosei have recently begun to expand and settle in numerous hidden villages, primarily Kumogakure.
Signature Traits:
Physical appearance:
- Spoiler:
Due to an ever-growing population a Kyosei can be found with any number of physical features. However, the 'royal' family members are defined by dark green eyes, long and thick black hair, and facial features that tend to make them seem more mature than others their age. As such, a member of a higher family in the clan can usually be identified quite easily, according to how well they fit these traits. Due to strict tradition almost all Kyosei are raised under rigorous exercise routine from a very young age. Most Kyosei, even civilians, are, accordingly, very well built and athletic.
Functional clothing:
- Spoiler:
During their time of seclusion on Sadachi island, the Kyosei grew accustomed to being constantly prepared for battle. An effect of this is that Kyosei tend to shun casual clothing, instead always wearing light, tough clothes that would be effective in combat.
Rigid tradition:
- Spoiler:
Kyosei are still raised with specific obligations to their clans tradition. Clan members will almost always show respect to those who are evidently royals, identified by unique physical features. Kyosei are usually raised to be warriors, making it rare to find a clan member without some sort of combat experience. Kyosei members are obligated to be reserved regarding matters of their clan, in particular the clans secrets.
Born fighters:
- Spoiler:
Kyosei are almost always raised to be warriors. During childhood, Kyosei members are subjected to intense physical and mental training. Children are trained to be at the peak of their physical capabilities. They are raised to show rigorous mental discipline, being stoic, reserved, and above all else, without mercy.
Watchful inquisitors:
- Spoiler:
Upon the day that Kyosei were allowed to leave Sadachi island by the clan leaders, a secretive and powerful police force was created. This inquisition is the tool of the paranoid leaders who lead the clan from their island. Members of this organization are primarily A rank ninjas, usually working in pairs. The main goal of these investigators is to seek out Kyosei who are wrongfully using their Kekkei Genkai, and eliminate them by all means.
Weapon masters:
- Spoiler:
The Kyosei generally show no particularly abnormal talent in jutsu. However, due to their Kekkei Genkai, all Kyosei are trained to be masters of weapons. Initially Kyosei are taught techniques applicable to most weapons, eventually specializing themselves upon the first manifestation of their Kekkei Genkai. All Kyosei must have one of their specialties be Weaponry.
Kekkei Genkai:
The Kyokai Symbiote: The most evident, and by all means, the most useful aspect of the Kyosei's Kekkei Genkai, is the ability to rapidly 'grow' an appendage from their body known as a 'Kyokey'. These appendages take a wide variety of shapes and sizes depending on the user. However, all Kyokey function as offensive tools, and will tend to take the form of any numbers of different kinds of traditional weapons.
The reason behind this ability is an organism known as a Kyokai Symbiote. All Kyosei are naturally born with this symbiote living inside them. The Kyokai shares the hosts nutrients, and in return constructs a Kyokey for the hosts use. The symbiote itself is small, stationary, and harmless. With certain exceptions, Kyokai will die within hours if they are removed from the host or the host dies.
Symbiote Physiology:
- Spoiler:
The Kyokai is generally no larger than a clenched fist. It possesses no skeletal structure, instead bonding to that of its host for support. The Kyokai grows with its host, and will, as time progresses, construct a Kyokey. Consequentially, Kyosei tend to require a lot more food. Even with the necessary sustenance, Kyosei often have reduced muscle strength from having to provide for their symbiote. This muscle loss makes the rigorous physical training of a Kyosei all the more important.
The most remarkable function of the symbiote is to use the chakra system of other organisms to create unique materials not found naturally. These unique materials can hold any number of exceptional properties, from strong magnetism, to bursting into flames when moved fast enough. It is by using these materials that a Kyokey can be enhanced and made to outshine ordinary weapons.
To facilitate the forced assimilation of foreign chakra systems, the Kyokai possesses a sort of 'tongue'. This tongue will generally manifest through the core of an active Kyokey, to ensure maximum protection, however, it can also be protruded through the palms of its host's hands.
This tongue is pierced into either a living, or freshly dead (5 minutes at maximum) organism. After this, through a process that is not even remotely understood, the majority of the victims chakra system is absorbed. This process is completely fatal to the victim.
There are various aspects which control how much this affects the Kyokai. Generally, the absorption of plants and animals will have no noticeable effect. Absorption of humans who are not trained in the use of chakra will yield a subtle change. Absorption of ninja will, depending upon their relative strength, allow for significant changes to be made to a Kyokey. Another significant factor is the victims acquaintance with the host. This limitation is the result of complex mental bonds between the host and the Kyokai. The more the victim has interacted with the host, the more of their chakra system may be absorbed. If a Kyokai consumes the chakra system of another Kyokai, the compatibility greatly enhances the gain.
Symbiote Psychology:
- Spoiler:
The natural mental state of a Kyokai is quite simple. They are cunning, vicious predators. A Kyokai is driven entirely by the desire to consume the chakra systems of other organisms. As such, Kyokai are merciless and intelligent. A symbiote can adapt to many different circumstances, rapidly deducing the best means to consume their prey.
It has been theorized that, given enough time bonded to a human host, a Kyokai may eventually develop a personality, and goals separate from their defining instincts. However, this has never actually occurred.
Symbiote - Host Bond:
- Spoiler:
Physically, the Kyokai is generally located around the upper spine of its host. Small tendrils are spread throughout the body and allow interactions with the host in numerous ways, such as absorption of nutrients. The symbiote seems to naturally strengthen the spinal column of the host, it has been said that this is a by-product of the Kyokey construction process.
The Kyokey itself is assembled throughout the host body, the various materials permeate the host body until they are needed to manifest the Kyokey. The method of manifesting a Kyokey involves using chakra to move and shape the various materials into the chosen form.
The mental bonds between a Kyokai and it's host are very complex. The bonds have been genetically ingrained into the host, and act to block the Kyokai's natural tendencies. The primary bond is one that both limits the raw power of the Kyokai, and prevents the Kyokai's predatory instincts from manifesting, these two effects are reliant on each-other, one cannot last without the other.
Because of this bond, symbiote psychology evolves entirely in tandem with that of the host. As such, the desires and thought processes of the Kyokai are synonymous with that of its hosts, meaning that no mental presence can be noticed. Should the bond be broken, the natural instincts of the symbiote will rapidly take over. Due to the mental connection between the symbiote and the host, this is very dangerous. The bond cannot be remade once broken. A symbiote that undergoes this change is known as a 'vagrant'.
Vagrant Kyokai:
- Spoiler:
Possessing a vagrant Kyokai is considered a taboo amongst the Kyosei, and lingers as a constant risk in the use of a Kyokey. Vagrants occur when the mental bonds between a symbiote and its host are broken. This can occur, primarily, through severe mental and physical trauma, great changes in the mental state of the host, and by greatly over exerting in the use of a Kyokey.
A vagrant Kyokai is capable of using its power to its full extent. This provides the host with a variety of tertiary benefits such as increased speed, strength, intelligence, and more. These minor benefits, when combined, result in a significant increase in combat capabilities in the host. However, despite the increase in power, the cost is far too grave to be worth it.
Upon a Kyokai undergoing vagrancy, it's first priority becomes to assimilate the host. Vagrants use the close mental bond with their hosts to launch vicious psychological attacks in an effort to break their will and assume control. These attacks are incredibly brutal and occur almost without pause, manifesting themselves as intense headaches, pains, hallucinations, and immense feelings of dread. The burden of these attacks will in most cases immediately break the host. However, in rare cases, vagrant hosts may survive long enough to grow accustomed to the attacks. If a host does grow used to the perpetual mental assaults, they will still require constant focus to maintain full control of their body, as the Kyokai will regularly compel them to seek out and consume the chakra system of other organisms.
If a host is broken psychologically, the Kyokai exercises free reign over their body. In these circumstances, the Kyokai will rapidly reconstruct the body to its liking, transforming the host into a vicious predator. The Kyokai will then go on a rampage, killing and consuming as much as possible, if left alone these creatures can grow incredibly dangerous.
The primary task of Sadachi island's inquisitors is to seek out and eliminate vagrant hosts, they are given permission to kill their target if they see fit.
A distinct quality of a vagrant host is that they possess a thick, black, chakra aura. The opacity of this aura increases proportional to the level of control that the vagrant Kyokai has. A host can, with due time, learn to mask this aura, in which case the only evident aura is that which is natural to the host. However, even with much experience, it is impossible to hide this aura when the Kyokey is exposed. This black aura is the primary means for the inquisitors to identify vagrant Kyokai.
The Kyokey:
- Spoiler:
The Kyokey is a vastly complex and powerful weapon. Upon the first manifestation of a Kyokey, it's form is permanently set, and is incapable of manifesting as any other form of weapon.
The Kyokey, when first used, takes a from in resemblance of it's host personality at the time. An honor-bound warrior may find their Kyokey taking the form of a katana or sword. A morbid individual may create a scythe. The deceitful and treacherous can expect to possess a dagger.
A Kyokey is treated with the standard rules of a US weapon, with the exception of it growing in rank along with the ninja, and being able to possess up to seven distinct abilities, purchased by using consumed chakra systems.
The Kyokey is stored in the body, and will tend to grow out of the arm when manifesting, eventually detaching itself for use. A Kyokey generally cannot change its appearance once it has exited the body.
Rules for chakra assimilation and Kyokey enhancement:
- Spoiler:
This function is dictated by the use of chakra system points (CSP). Each rank of ninja offers a different amount of CSP. Enhancements are rated in rank depending on strength, and are purchased in a similar method to purchasing jutsu, each rank requires different amounts of CSP to purchase. A modifier is applied depending on how many topics have been made in which the character and his victim have interacted, whether they are player characters or not. Another modifier is applied for consumption of other Kyokai (Cannibalism). This is to prevent the random slaughtering of token npcs to quickly and cheaply gain enhancements.
Victim base point gain: D rank or lower: 0 C rank: 1 B rank: 2 A rank: 4 S rank: 8
Enhancement cost: D rank: 1 C rank: 2 B rank: 4 A rank: 7 S rank: 10
Cannibalism modifier: +50%
Topic number modifier: 0: -90% 1: -80% 2: -60% 3: -40% 4: -20% 5: -0%
History:
At the current point in time, the Kyosei live in relative harmony with their symbiote. The clan has spread its roots from the island that once trapped it. Under the watchful gaze of the leaders on Sadachi island, the Kyosei are becoming more and more entangled in the political affairs of the shinobi world. Elite warriors have searched the land, gaining new skills and knowledge to bring home and teach to their fellow clan members. Kyosei are becoming more and more recognized as powerful combatants, and are in high demand as mercenaries, a job most Kyosei are conditioned to gladly accept. It is a prosperous time for the clan, in great contrast to the vicious and bloody struggle of their past.
- The Kyosei's Exodus:
The Kyosei were originally a significant clan in Kumogakure. Without any sort of Kekkei Genkai, the Kyosei had worked their way into the political affairs of the nation through deciet and blackmail. The young clan was growing fast, rapidly becoming an economic powerhouse. However, rival factions took action, and slowly but surely, the Kyosei clan was undermined and damaged.
Beaten and damaged, the clan picked up its roots and left Kumogakure. With it's powerful ideals of solidarity and resolve, the large majority of the Kyosei moved as one, setting off in search of an untouched land they could claim as their own.
Word had spread of an untouched and isolated island in the sea near Kumogakure. While small, it was said to be abundant with wildlife and prime land. The Kyosei made a mass exodus to this island. Using their resources to bring livestock, crops, and building materials, the clan quickly took root in this little gem they called Sadachi island.
- Arrival on Sadachi:
The island was mostly surrounded by dangerous cliffs, with a single bay cutting into it. This bay became the initial settlement, and held the only viable entrance to the island. The Kyosei quickly explored and constructed, seeding farmland and small settlements across Sadachi island.
Rare and exotic creatures were abundant in this land, the most fascinating of all being the Kyokai. Early observation showed this creature to be capable of enhancing itself by attaching to its prey and consuming its chakra system. The more curious of the Kyosei had no time to study this creature amongst the rapid expansion and construction across the island, and so the immense potential threat it posed was not recognized until it was too late.
The Kyokai had, at a time, lived in balance with the island, their short life time and relative weakness accounting for their vast potential. The majority of creatures on the island had evolved with minimal capacity for chakra systems, meaning that the Kyokai could never become quite strong enough to survive long. This all changed when mankind and their livestock arrived on the island.
- The Kyokai horde:
Reports started off innocently enough, but claims of the occasional missing cattle or pet quickly spiraled into widespread reports of herds that had seemed to have had the life sucked out of them. By the time these reports were linked to the Kyokai, the first human casualty had already occurred. Two children venturing too far from their homes had been overwhelmed by the Kyokai who had been gorging themselves on the new animals. At this point the situation grew beyond control.
Compared to the token amounts of power a Kyokai could gain from animals, a human was incomparable. Enhancing and growing themselves tremendously, the Kyokai began widespread slaughter of fringe settlements. The situation rapidly spiraled out of control, panicked reports of deadly monsters flooded into the core settlement of the island. More than a quarter of the Kyosei were wiped out before they could even begin to respond. More than half had been consumed by the time the Kyosei fortified their central settlements enough to halt the horde of terrifying monsters.
Slowly but surely, the Kyosei lost their remaining settlements until they had only their initial bay-side village, now lined with palisades and large wooden walls. The Kyosei had never been combatants, instead relying on deceit and treachery to accomplish their goals. The shabby militia that was assembled was barely enough to hold their last settlement, which was rapidly becoming a fort.
For a time starvation and paranoia reigned over the unfortunate clan. The Kyokai slowly probed for cracks in their defenses, often breaking through and killing many before being stopped. One thing was clear to the leadership of the Kyosei: the Kyokai could, by no means, be allowed to reach the mainland. All outgoing traffic was banned, Sadachi island was forced into a state of total isolation. The fleet of ships they had arrived on the island with was dismantled and used to reinforce the walls. The Kyosei were now forced to hold their ground or die.
- The Rebirth of the Kyosei:
The Kyosei were strong willed, for years they were contained in that single fort, slowly training up their members to fight back. Over the course of these many years the Kyosei clan was reduced to only the most determined, the rest simply dying out or even committing suicide. Their ideals and traditions were rebuilt from the ground up. The clan practiced martial arts and ninjutsu from the small pieces of information they had on the subjects. Eventually the Kyosei emerged back into the island once more, an entirely different people.
Early missions back into the island yielded in upwards of an 80% mortality rate. It was rare for a veteran to emerge, but the ones that did returned with new knowledge and skills to teach their comrades. The Kyosei grew stronger and braver, finally fighting back against the Kyokai for the first time in decades. Rotten, abandoned settlements were reclaimed and fortified, some were lost shortly after, but some survived long enough to become bastions. The Kyosei slowly picked up pace, seeding new farmland and allowing their remaining livestock to roam free once again in reclaimed fields. Population grew, and the once small fighting force grew with it.
However, while the singular, military objective of the Kyosei produced powerful ninja, when these ninja fell it would give the Kyokai an even greater meal. It seemed eventually that the Kyokai were growing stronger at an equal pace to the Kyosei, neither side gaining an advantage, it became a vicious war of attrition, pushing both sides to their limits.
- Noga Kyosei:
This war of attrition persisted for more than a century. Eventually, a rare event occurred. A legendary Kyosei by the name of Noga entered a particularly frenzied battle. The powerful veteran watched his entire squad die, barely managing to land the finishing blow on the last of the offending Kyokai, but suffering great wounds in the process.
The experience and resolve of this soldier far outmatched any other, but he was helpless and immobilized as he watched a small Kyokai, most likely a newborn, approach him. While Noga would have made short work of the creature normally, he was too badly wounded to properly move. The Kyokai outmaneuvered him and latched onto the back of his neck.
It was this rare circumstance of a weak Kyokai attempting to assimilate a legendary warrior that created a unique occurrence. Feeling his very life force drained, Noga managed to use his control over chakra to somehow fight back against the invading organism. An internal battle ensued, lasting for a day, the legendary soldiers equally legendary resolve barely pulling him through. Noga emerged alive, though changed. He found that, in an effort to better attack him, the Kyokai had burrowed into his body, wrapping around his spine, it now perpetually attacked the mind of the soldier. If it hadn't been a newborn and he hadn't been such a strong willed warrior it likely could have won.
Noga returned to the villages core settlement, locking himself in a library and entering a state of constant meditation and study. He emerged with knowledge of a method of preventing Kyokai from assimilating a human chakra system. The revolutionary technique was quickly applied to newborns, special seals and medical procedures were performed in hopes that the famous soldier was correct.
Noga would not live to see the fruits of his work. In his old age he succumbed to the constant assault of the now mature Kyokai, managing in his last moments to call a dear friend to end his life before he became a monster. But the newborns who had been bestowed with the technique he had developed found themselves immune to the Kyokai. This meant the end of the centuries long war for Sadachi island.
- Victory and Expansion:
While the Kyokai were still capable of killing the humans through normal means, their primary food source was now unavailable. The Kyokai were quickly reduced to their original forms, and then exterminated entirely. However, the Kyokai were not extinct, rather, they lived on in a different way, somehow altering the genes of the Kyosei clan so that they would continue to be born through them. Over time both the Kyokai and the bonding technique were integrated into the genes of the Kyosei, and thus created their Kekkei Genkai.
For a time the Kyosei remained on their reclaimed island, the new-found ability of the Kyokey and the implications of carrying a Kyokai were thoroughly studied. However, the Kyosei were now a clan of warriors, and with nothing to fight, they grew uneasy.
Eventually the leadership of Sadachi island deemed it safe to construct ships to once again return to the mainland. Sadachi islands inquisition was established to monitor the fledgling groups of Kyosei as they spread into the world. The Kyosei set foot once again onto their long lost homeland, by now far removed and forgotten by history. The Kyosei had emerged a drastically evolved and different group of people, and were pleased to find an equally new and fantastic world waiting for them.
Clan Jutsu:
- Jutsu:
Name: Kanagata heiki no jutsu (Mold Weapon Technique) Rank: D Type: Weaponry Range: Close (0m - 5m) Element: N/A Description: The core technique for all use of the Kyokey. This technique can only be learned by those possessing a Kyokai Kekkei Genkai. By using chakra inside their body, the user is capable of moving the materials for their Kyokey through their body. This can be used to cause the materials to exit the body, at which point they will automatically assemble into the Kyokey. Once the Kyokey is assembled outside the body, the technique can be ceased. When use is done, the Kyokey can automatically return to the users body via skin contact. Chakra Cost: 3 (2 per post).
Name: Kanzen dōki (Full synchronism) Rank: B - S Type: Weaponry Range: Close (0m - 5m) Element: N/A Description: A technique that improves the level of co-operation between a host and his symbiote. This technique can only be learned by those possessing a Kyokai Kekkei Genkai. This technique can only be used while Kanagata heiki no jutsu is active. By greatly increasing chakra flow to the materials of a Kyokey, and by utilizing great focus and experience, the Kyokey's shape can be rapidly changed. Though this is within a small range as to where it still resembles the original weapon. The Kyokey can then be rapidly grown and recalled, capable of suddenly disappearing and reappearing at any point on the users body. At B rank this can be used to extend modified versions of the Kyokey for greater offensive capabilities. At A rank the Kyokai can be made to automatically fortify parts of the body to defend from incoming damage. The degree to which this can be done is dependent on how much of the Kyokey is currently in the body, and can only be done when the user, to at least some extent, can anticipate the attack early enough for the Kyokai to react. At S rank the complex materials that make up the Kyokey can be integrated into the users body. When the Kyokey is not outside the body, the users performance improves greatly, as well as they gain the weapons special properties. At all ranks there is a risk of causing the Kyokai to go vagrant if the user over exerts themselves. Chakra Cost: B rank - 10 (5 per post), A rank - 15 (7 per post), S rank - 20 (10 per post).

| What are the (exactly) materials and how do they work?:
I can't exactly answer this question, in much the same way that I can precisely answer what makes up the Chakra system. What I am implying, and I'm sorry if it is a bit of a leap, is that whatever complex, mystical material that makes up the Chakra system, can be re-purposed into a different, yet equally complex system. This new system being that which grants the Kyokey it's unique abilities.
How exactly does the kyokai increase strength?:
The Kyokai evolved as creature's capable of manipulating a host body in order to enhance their own capabilities. In the case of a vagrant Kyokai, it attempts to manipulate the host body into a powerful, mindless killing machine in order to further its own goals. While the host body can naturally resist this change, it cannot negate it entirely, meaning that the host body is manipulated to become more powerful, albeit slightly. |

| I apologize for the delay on this, I've been burdened by rather unfortunate real life problems of late thus my appearance on the forum has been rather minimal.
Im not really sure how to judge this given that the concept is something entirely foreign. I can't say that I would be comfortable allowing an entirely alien concept just for the precedent it sets.

| Fair enough, sorry for the trouble.
Is there any way I could salvage this into something that still follows a similar concept but fits better with the established theme? Or should I just give up and try something different? |
