Chakra, the most essential thing to any form of Ninjutsu and every single shinobi that utilized them. Being as important as the mental energy in the mind, chakra could be found in every cell of the human body. Once molded, it becomes possible to channel it through the chakra pathway system, which is to chakra as blood it to the circulatory system. Through the use of hand seals, the chakra could from that point on be controlled and let out in any shape or form the user can come up with and actually make it materialize as an elemental attack, a copy of the caster or the ability to walk on water. During most fights Hiruzen had ever been in, the need to form hand seals had always been something that held him back. While he had been at a point where he focused hard and trained even harder in order to increase the speed at which he could perform his hand seals, merely increasing the speed behind them was no longer enough for him. His Sharingan allowed him to copy jutsu by memorizing the hand seals performed by his adversaries while reading the exact ratio of chakra used and even allowing him to perform them when the opportunity would present itself to him. While this was a great way of using the powers and strengths of his enemies against them, the fact that he had to use hand seals was always a thing that bothered him greatly. Though it was not even so much the fact that he had to form them with jutsu he more or less stole from others, it was his own personal set of jutsu he wanted to have memorized to the point where he would no longer even need to perform seals, be able to do them at an extremely high pace or even with just one hand.

Over the years, the ability to form jutsu with one hand had become possible for him when the young Uchiha started studying ways in which he could keep one hand free during battle. More than that, he had also trained himself to the point where the weaving of his seals took place at such unfathomable speeds that the human eye in most cased only had time to register the forming of seals but had no way of telling which seals had been formed or how many. To say that he had become a master when it came to the use of hand seals and the various manners in which he performed them was an understatement. During the two months he had spent away from the Hidden Cloud, all he had done was increase his own expertise in the fields that had captured his interest. Aside from the fact that he had reached the final stage of the Sharingan by gaining his third tomoe and thus officially claiming the title of Elite Uchiha, he had started to further master the use of Ninjutsu, focusing mainly on the use of his fire style. It was the main elemental nature of his clan after all, so it made sense that he would focus his attention on the most destructive of all the five basic elements. While he had been relying mainly on the use of his earth style Ninjutsu up to this point, that had been mainly to use non-lethal force by making use of concussive attacks that would not always leave any nasty scars or lasting wounds on the people he had to fight. Now that he had gotten this much stronger, he wanted to show everyone that he was the most powerful Uchiha in the entire land of lightning before spreading his reputation all over the world so all would come to respect and fear him.

During the time he spent in the temple and the things he learned there, one of the things he learned were the Kuji-in seals. They were among the seals no one else in the world knew about, making them that much more interesting in the eyes of the young Uchiha. Things other people could not use were just that much more interesting to Hiruzen, though there was more that he had been slowly getting the hang of. Ever since he had graduated from the academy, he had been working hard on trying to get his hand seals and the molding of his large portions of chakra under control. Through the years, pushing himself to increase the speed of his hand seals, learn how to more accurately mold his chakra in various ways and learning new manners of forming the seals for his Ninjutsu techniques. Thanks to the clan and the village that pushed him into fighting with the skills he had instead of allowing him the time he needed in order to increase the skills he had for the sake of the future. The short sighted people Hiruzen had been answering to for the majority of his young life had set him back a lot, though that was over now. With the power he had received from his training in the temple along with the large amounts of free time he had, things finally started changing for him. Unfortunately, the training of his new tricks would only take him so far when all he had to practice it on were stationary targets such as large boulders and make-shift dummies. As such, the time had come for him to leave the temple behind and start heading back towards the village. On the way there however, he found something that was quite interesting to the young Uchiha.

Thanks to a group of bandits that had been raiding nearby and set up their camp a couple of kilometers away from the temple, Hiruzen had taken the liberty to test the skills that he was currently practicing. While three of them had been wanted murderers, others were wanted for kidnapping and selling children to the black market and making it so they would never get to see their parents again. In his opinion, taking children away from their parents and forcing them into slavery was just as bad as killing a person, which was why he felt no remorse when he broke into their lair and took them all down in mere seconds. With the power of his fully matured Sharingan, people like them had no way of holding him back or even harming him. By the time he had ensured that ever one of the eight men was bound with wire so they would not be able to escape and would have no other option than to face judgement, he started working on the execution of his jutsu without hand seals, as well as the execution of these criminals that made the chances of achieving piece in the lightning country that much harder. Taking one of the men away from the others, he sat him down while locking his eyes with that of his target. Trying his best to mold his chakra to form his Genjutsu without using hand seals, all he managed to do was burn his chakra without getting the desired results. Figuring that it was not yet ready to be used without any seals, he took the bindings off of the man and told him to run as fast as he could if he wanted to get out of this alive. While Hiruzen was obviously not going to let him do such a thing, he focused on his fire chakra and started molding it inside of his body without forming seals.

Facing in the direction of the man, he released his chakra and spat out a blazing fireball that chased him down and enveloped him moments after it had been fired. Resulting in a pained scream and a rather loud explosion, the ball of fire died down. Leaving the criminal on the floor with painful burn wounds and a large open wound on his back, it seemed that he was no longer in any position to run towards the freedom he had been promised. As expected, the use of the fire element chakra without the formation of hand seals came far more easily to him than anything else. He had expected as much because he was an Uchiha, and as a member of that clan, he had been born with a very powerful affinity with the fire element. While it had been a wild guess that would have ended up in him having to chase a runaway criminal in case it failed, his confidence had not been misplaced. Remembering the steps he had taken in order to mold his chakra without seals, he decided that it was not yet the time to give up for the day. Taking yet another of the bound criminals out of their den and tossing him on his ass in the open, Hiruzen tried to perform his Genjutsu again without forming any hand seals. When he failed at performing as planned yet again, he had started to get frustrated. Allowing yet another man to run away, he activated his Sharingan and set him free. As soon as the man had seen that the other person Hiruzen had given his freedom was still laying on the floor in a pool of his own blood while breathing slowly, it seemed that he was not going to try to make a run for it. Whether he would run or remain seated did not matter to Hiruzen as he would punish them for their crimes either way.

Trying again, he focused all of his attention on the forming and the molding of his chakra. As he opened his eyes again and locked them on those of his prisoner, it seemed that the jutsu had finally landed. Going by the things the man was trying to do, it became clear that by now, he had seen the massive fireball that was coming from the sky and slowly closed in on top of him. While it was only an illusion to Hiruzen, it was very real to the criminal that started running instantly as a means of avoiding certain death. As he ran, he trampled all over his accomplice and kicked dirt into his open wounds, causing him to let out an agonized scream. While it was a horrible act, the scream sounded like music to Hiruzen’s ears. Firing yet another fireball after the runner to give him the feeling that the illusionary fireball had in fact hit him, he left him on laying around just like the other one. Proceeding to injure the men to the point of breaking their spirit and their hopes of surviving by turning them into test dummies for his Genjutsu and the casting of jutsu without the need for hand seals, he spent the rest of the afternoon playing around with the men before he was happy with the results. Leaving the men behind to bleed to death, it was time for Hiruzen to start his journey back to the Hidden Cloud.
