| So I had a though. We have a system for upgrading things from one rank to the next, but what about simply updating something?
Hypothetical examples: A jutsu that requires a no longer available SC, or else you've come up with a better explanation for how it works; altering a piece of armor to give it another feature for enhanced functionality (Say, taking a mask you previously used for simply covering your face, and giving the added ability of convex-edged lenses to generate peripheral vision).
In some cases, it's reasonable to simply give the change for free (See: SC example), but in others, it's a little murky. Giving a mask new functionality, say, while it shouldn't be free, seems like a raw deal to have to pay the full cost to add an extra little feature to a piece of equipment you already own.
Thoughts? |

| I thought we already did update the Jutsu that require a non-existent SC. |

| I guess the best way to go about it then would be to grade the piece of equipment pre-upgrade and then post-upgrade and pay the difference in rank as you would a jutsu when purchasing the next level. If you're adding minor functionality that wouldn't boost the overall grade then probably pay something like D or C rank price depending the equipment's rank.
As for upgrading the jutsu. If it's something related to the example you gave with an SC then yeah, it should be free but if it's you updating a jutsu's description then it probably needs to go through creations again and evaluated from the original to see how drastically it differs. If it's deemed to differ too far then it would be taken as a new jutsu and if you want it you'd need to purchase it like you would a new jutsu. If the updated description is minor though in that it won't really have an effect on the jutsu's performance in battle (meaning this is an update purely for the benefit of explanation) then I see no reason not to do a free update as one would do when updating their character sheets. |

- Updating/Editing where the effect remains the same = Free of Cost
This would apply to fixing the description, changing the wording etc.
Increasing the Rank = Pay the Difference between old and new Rank Updating/Editing where the effects change = Depends on the mod's opinion
i.e If Rank stays the same, no Cost is incurred. If Rank changes, then you pay the Difference between old and new Rank

I basically said all this except the last point. I don't agree. If you change the effect of your jutsu, it's a new jutsu. Pay the cost. |

Why? You have already paid for a C Rank Jutsu. You're not adding another jutsu to your arsenal. You're replacing a jutsu with another.
Since we don't have a refund system, mostly because I don't think anyone has ever wanted to "sell" their jutsu/weaponry, I figured replacing a jutsu would be cost-free. Either that or we need a refund system, or a rule that says that removing jutsu will not give you a refund.
If we do have a refund system, then the cost of the old "jutsu" (i.e. old version of the jutsu) would be subtracted from the cost of the new jutsu.
If we have a no refunds system, then it would be like a buying a new jutsu. |

| Agreeing with Kite. No one that ever wanted to lose what they knew about a technique suddenly learned another technique in half the time because he forgot the former. It makes no sense no matter how you look at it. In terms of refunding a jutsu you no longer want, I say "Deal with it dawg". You wanted it, you bought it, you keep it and don't complain because you want your points back. This isn't a Walmart. |

If we have a no refunds system, then it would be like a buying a new jutsu. Because a refund system doesn't make sense. Jutsu aren't "bought" IC. They are "learned". Plus the whole idea of a refund system just gives room for potential abuse. If you want a new jutsu then go get the points for it and buy it. It'll take you one or two topics max.
Altering a jutsu's effects changes the jutsu. If you want a new jutsu then you spend the points, not trade in old jutsu for new ones. This isn't Gamestop (JutsuStop). Think before designing or buying a jutsu. If you don't like what you bought then tough cookies. |

| I agree with your logic, Kite. I failed to consider the IC implications of a "refund" xD
Well then, to sum up, you are better off just making a new technique/item Travis. If the change to the description is done to clarify or to fix/improve the wording, then a cost won't be incurred.
A change of the "effects" however, will require you to pay for the technique/item as if it was a brand new custom.
So you might as well have the "old" and the "new" one.
That's my opinion anyway. |
