Origin:

Howl was born in a very far away land, and lived there until she was five. Her mother (single) abandoned her and she was in different hands for ages. Eventually a martial arts master recognised her potential and sent her off to live in Konoha, with one of his friends. However, he couldn't take her in and she was, unfortunately, left to starve on the streets. Then a strange man named Rae took her in, and decided to let her train at the academy in Konohagakure if she worked for him. Howl, eight years old, agreed. She was given the katana in order to learn.

Howl was never friendly with the other kids in the academy, and strongly disliked the ones who made fun of her accent. She wanted to learn as much as possible so she could show her 'master' (she never thought of him as a father figure) what she had learnt and feel proud of herself. However, when she was about ten he started to hurt her. She'd come home from school in fear, and was often hit or beaten. She became even more reserved, and wouldn't tell anyone what was happening, even when she came into the academy half dead in the morning. But she couldn't do anything about her Master - he was really nice to her sometimes, like a proper father that listened and cared and took her out for ramen. She was made to study hard - if she didn't she would be beaten and abused, and passed her exam easily.

She was at her happiest when on a mission or training. Unfortunately, this was only a small percent of the time. She also had to spend a lot of her spare time at home, and was always fearful of her master. She knew she should tell someone - a ninja shouldn't even be afraid in the first place, but his shows of kindness made her falter. One day, she snapped. The abusive Rae had done something terrible to her, and without thinking she drew her sword and ran him through. She was then horrified at killing another human being - on all her missions she had never killed anyone, and now she had committed a murder right in her own home. She contemplated suicide a few times in the time she was alone, and attempted it twice, and it took all of her willpower to stay on top of things. Slowly, she started healing inside and decided to work hard as a ninja.

Blue cursed and circled round. Niko was in the way of her attack. She threw a kunai right in front of the horse to halt him, and darted straight at Mikura...

The duel hall is dimly lit. A rope ladder leads upwards to a trapdoor in the ceiling, and several flame torches light the hollowed earth from select places in the wall. Tree roots from the oak tree above hold the ceiling together. In the middle of the cave-like place, a white line has been drawn - barring the hall into two halves.

In one half of the room stands a young, 13 year old, girl and a startled black stallion. Both are standing stock still. The horse, because of the shock of the sharp knife suddenly appearing in the ground in front of it, and the girl...partly because of a fire-type jutsu, and partly of the shock of what has just happened.

In the other half of the room stand four people. Two are chuunin, also standing motionless - but in a bored, careless manner, leaning against the wall with half-closed eyes. They do not seem to be bothered at all by the scene laid out in front of them, instead daydreaming and half-dozing, probably wanting to be somewhere else at that time.

The other two people seem to be the centre of attention. One is another teenage girl, about 16 years of age, and the other is a man, much older than the girl. They are the stillest of them all, in a stiffened, paralysed stance. The man is leaning slightly forwards towards the young woman, who is shuddering ever so slightly. The male, a Jounin ninja, is holding a katana out to the side with his right hand, and the tip of the weapon is inches above the ground, dripping fresh blood onto the dusty floor one drop at a time. The floor below the point of the weapon is in a small puddle of crimson blood, but that is not the only place where blood lies.

The female, also a Jounin level ninja, has her fists pressed firmly against the man's stomach. Blood can be seen, flowing in a thin river towards the earth from the point where her body touches his. In the woman's hands is a weapon. A kunai. A kunai that is now at least four inches deep into the man's gut. A thin line of the red liquid trickles from the side of his mouth, and he stares unseeing with wide, bloodshot eyes.

He is in pain. So is the female Jounin. There is a long gash across her body, a little lower than her chest, caused by the katana in the man's grasp. The wound is shallow, but still painful. It is not enough to kill her. She is sweating a cold, cold sweat. She looks up into the man's pale face with her oddly-coloured eyes, and shudders involuntarily.

Slowly, the girl loosens her grip on the ninja knife, before dragging it out of the man's body - dripping blood as it slides easily out. He staggers, and - as if in slow motion, drops to his hands and knees. The kunoichi lets go of the kunai knife and it lands next to the katana, which is lying on the floor beside the dying shinobi. She sways slightly, and gazes at the man. He continues to stare blindly at the bloodstained floor.

A minute passes. A deathly silence washes over the hall like a tidal wave. The flame-lined bars trapping the Genin kunoichi gradually disappear. The man is now lying belly down on the floor, his head looking to the side where his killer is. She is still gazing calmly, softly, at him as the lights fade from his eyes. The light fades completely. He takes a final, shuddering breath...and is still.
