It had been years since Kiyomi had left the borders of the land of fire. The last time had been when she was a genin on a mission with Kimiko to discuss diplomatic relations with Kirigakure. The rest of her missions had taken place in the land of fire rooting out spies, bandits, and cartels. It was her comfort zone, but now she'd had to leave it. This mission was too important to refuse just because it was outside her favored territory.

She had some comfort though. She'd be joining up with her old team once she reached the land of lighting and she'd have a few people with her on the journey there. Kiyomi was likely the highest ranked out of all of them, but any help they could get in this mission. She had decided to have Fuuka stay behind. If anything happened to Kiyomi Konoha could not go without a communications head. Her info gathering abilities would have proved great, but they needed her at home.

Checking her ninja gear one last time she looked over to those from the village that had gathered. "This is the last chance anyone will have to be sure they have everything they need. Be sure you've got it because once we leave we will not be coming back until the mission is over." Her gear was all there so she'd wait for confirmations from the rest of the squad before giving out any new orders.

Yoru was leaning against a tree with not much on his mind at the moment, he tended to enjoy relaxing before starting a mission or even before going on a trip to a mission. Ever since he had come back Yoru had spent most of his time hanging out in the village not wanting to go anywhere. It had actually been a worry of his that he would run into Saito once again, but today he was requested to take part in a mission that would bring him out of the country. As such he had no choice but to follow orders and travel to another country with a group of Konoha ninja.

While he had arrived early in order to have time to relax, Yoru wished he had more time to finish the last bits of work that he knew he had to do. Yet it was at that moment Yoru got an idea for something he had tried to do once, but didn't get the chance to do it as he had been stopped. With a quick flash of hand signs Yoru created a clone that stood right next to him. While it was true that by doing this he was weakening himself considerably. Yoru felt that his clone could get everything done without having to worry about his at the same time.

Not even waiting for Yoru to say anything the clone took off, it knew what it had to do and staying there any longer would only waste time. Add to the fact that he didn't want anyone of his team to know that he was only fighting at half strength if it came to it. As the clone disappeared from site Yoru made his way over to the group that was beginning to form up for the trip. Almost instantly he noticed a few familiar faces, quickly noticing the woman that had brought him back to being a member of Konoha. Hiding his face form her as his face turned bright red. Standing in the group of travelers Yoru stood ready to take off towards their mission.

"This is the last chance anyone will have to be sure they have everything they need. Be sure you've got it because once we leave we will not be coming back until the mission is over."

Hitei sighed and tapped the heel of his foot up against a tree, the ninja who spoke exuded authority, and a quick glance could tell him that she was one of the higher ups. The whole situation seemed off to him, on one hand he felt as if he had been chosen for an important mission, but on the other hand, the presence of multiple high ranking ninja gave him the feeling of being mere cannon fodder.

Various people milled about the clearing outside the village gates, checking their gear and readying themselves, an air heavy with an uneasy anticipation hung over them. Hitei shoved a hand into his back pocket and produced a brief dossier on the mission. His eyes shortly skimmed over a wall of text and quickly gave up on the act, he decided he would simply ask whoever was in charge during their travels.

Shoving the folded paper back into his pocket Hitei went about checking his gear one more time. His typical, formal, all black suit clung to him, ever so slightly wrinkled from the walk to the village gates. He also carried a secondary outfit, the villages standard uniform, in case anyone complained about his attire. Hitei rummaged through his bag before deciding once again that he hadn't forgot anything, and straightened himself up before walking towards the centre of the group, indicating with his body language alone that he was eager to leave.

This would be the first time Hitei had ever left the fire country, and he could not deny that the mission he, and everyone else here, had been assigned to, seemed very significant. Worry of both leaving the village, as well as a typical fear of death, was quickly met with a surge of baseless confidence, as was typical of Hitei. A brief, elated grin spread across his face, the significance and difficulty of the mission was exactly the reason that he was guaranteed to succeed.

Since none of the shinobi voiced and qualms of leaving nor needing to grab any last minute objects it was time to move out. Kiyomi had been slowly walking around looking over the faces both familiar and new. Yoru, sadly for him had not gone unnoticed. She just hadn't let her gaze linger on him. Nor did she speak verbally with him. That didn't mean he was safe though. "Alright then let's move out. Genin stay closer to the center with me and the medical shinobi in squads of the three. Any with sensory or tracking skills I want at the edges of the formation to spot any traps or enemy activity. We will be operating under radio silence just in case the enemy can pick up on the signals. I will link us all together in a mind link if you feel the need to report something just think as if you are speaking aloud. Also not that if I hear any thoughts about my ass ,Renji," Her gaze went to a whistling jounin at the back of the crowd A few people laughed at this. "I will deduct from your pay as well as slap the shit outta you.

She made a signal for everyone to move out and soon the air was filled with ninja taking to the trees, some preferred traveling by the ground. Kiyomi though went into the trees with two jonin flanking her with squads of genin within shouting distance.

A moment after the Konoha shinobi took off Kiyomi made a handseal and touched each of their minds. "Alright this is what it feels like to speak mind to mind. Don't freak out and simply remember that if you wish to speak think as if you are speaking aloud." A moment later Kiyomi got a bit of a swarm of messages from the shinobi. It was a bit disorientating, but she told them to shut up and went to each sqaud one at a time making sure everyone could do it.

Finally she got to Yoru. "Hello Yoru. Only you can hear me at the moment. So I just want to let you know while I am happy that you've recovered yourself, but I'm warning you now. If you seem to be reverting and I see it...I will kill you in a heartbeat without a second thought. I know exactly what you did as your alter ego slash amnesiac self. I will not allow that to happen again. Am I understood." Her voice and face were perfectly calm, but the message was clear. If Yoru stepped out of line Kiyomi was going to correct him. Permanently.

Yoru could feel the ice in her words as it entered his mind. He wasn't entirely scared in her but more at the thought that that man would return. It had been his last words when Yoru had banished him into the depths of his mind. Even now he could almost hear Junjo's cries that he would return to take control. Yoru could not destroy Junjo as they were the same being. As Yoru gripped the sword at his side for comfort since he would not find it from the woman that could so easily enter his mind.

As Yoru took up his place with the group Yoru spoke clearly to the woman, "You have nothing to worry about Junjo. I hope that the day will never come that you will have to keep that promise." Walking along silently Yoru added to his statement. "Though I will thank you for bringing me back to my home. I definitely owe you my life." It could almost be said that in his last thoughts it was not also gratitude in his words as well as respect but complete truth. As odd as Yoru was his sense of honor was very deep to him.

With the last of his words said Yoru returned his attention to watching the outside of their group. He was intentionally avoiding the Yamanaka's eyes as he felt some what embarrassed at his own honesty. Yet the more important action was to look out for any enemies. Though he was no sensory shinobi in any regards yet Yoru would still be useful if a fight broke out. However at this point he needed to focus on chakra conservation. Gripping the sheath at his side Yoru walked along watching everywhere for any signs of trouble. Though he was very hopeful that they would reach their destination with no issues.

The various Shinobi stood to attention as the commanding Jounin spoke. She mentioned something about telepathy which immediately piqued Hitei's interest, he scanned his eyes over her, quickly coming to the simplest conclusion, she was a Yamanaka. His eyes were drawn back to the rear of the crowd, towards a whistling Jounin. Hitei chuckled a bit louder then his peers at both the joke, and the Yamanaka's following response.

As the group moved out Hitei took to staying on the ground, weaving between trees. At first he tried to stay in the centre of the group, but he found himself slowly drifting out to where there were less people in his way. He wasn't quite at the leading edge, but he was close.

Hitei steadied his breathing and tried his best to pay attention to the patterns of each individuals footstep, some were louder, some softer, some farther apart. He was no sensory ninja, not yet, but Hitei was confident that his continued practising of pattern recognition made him, at least, better than the average Shinobi.

At that moment the Yamanaka's voice pierced into his mind, it was an odd, new sensation, and Hitei took an immediate interest in it. He changed his path to draw closer the the leading squad of ninja. As he came within line of sight of the commanding squad, Hitei had to fight off the immediate urge to mentally project some insult, or perhaps something worse, at the Yamanaka, just to test her. He immediately scattered these growing thoughts and focused on something else.

The Yamanaka was likely busy handling multiple telepathic communications at the moment, so Hitei opted to wait a bit until he attempted to talk to her. For now, he leapt up into the trees to get a better view point of the group.

Yoru's odd gratitude and acceptance of her threat was a bit disconcerting. Her expression didn't change nor did her thoughts betray her feelings. If he truly felt that way then it was alright. He regretted his actions and would hopefully find a way to atone through saving lives. "Well then I hope I never have to keep that promise either. Good luck on your mission Yoru. Try not to die right after regaining your senses."

She kept leaping from tree to tree alongside the units from the village checking in at various intervals to make sure everything was okay. So far nothing out of the ordinary had been spotted. Perhaps the enemy hadn't had the time or manpower to set up traps or send an advanced party to meet them. That would be a great boon to them if they didn't have the time. Less people would be incapacitated or die before they reached the target.

[Some time later.]

The large group was nearing the land of lighting and Kiyomi was making her last batch of rounds. Her mind spoke to Hitei. She had memorized all those in the operations names and faces. Especially the genin since they needed someone to keep an eye on them. "How are you holding up Hitei? Are you nervous about the mission? Tired from the traveling? There is no shame in admitting any of this, I can assure you many of your fellows are feeling the same way. Even the jonin."

As they continued their little march along Yoru couldn't help but feel that the whole thing was taking a bit more time than it really should. While he was used to traveling alone a large group does tend to take longer. Yet that didn't help to relieve his boredom, yet even though he was bored Yoru made a point to stay alert. While boredom was all well and good he didn't want to become complacent and forget what he was doing. Still scanning the area Yoru let out a yawn that he had tried to suppress. As the group continued along Yoru began to rub his finger over the V on his sword.

Stealing short glances toward the Yamanaka, Yoru couldn't help but feel a little nervous around her. while it wasn't attraction it was more fear that she would find a single reason to end him. Even if he didn't revert back to being Junjo he felt she would kill him for acting up. Though that didn't matter she was not only a member of Konohagakure she was also a member of a respectable clan. Reaching into his bag Yoru produced a bit of dried meat he kept on him for long walks such as this.

It was always to keep not only hydrated but to make sure to have enough calories for the long walk. Yoru was no navigator and he had no idea how long it would take to get to lightning country. Though he had never been there he had read books about the village that was there. While it was obvious that the books were a little lacking due to village secrets Yoru still had an idea of what to expect. Finishing his piece of jerky Yoru continued to watch the area around him for any sign of enemies.

As the journey winded on and on Hitei continued to trail along within eyesight of Kiyomi, he had checked the dossier earlier to learn her name. At the moment that she initiated telepathic communication, Hitei happened to be in the middle of eating a snack bar. The convenience of being able to talk through your mind while stuffing your face instantly appealed to him.

“I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit nervous, though I would say I'm a fair bit more excited then I am scared”, that was a half truth, Hitei was hardly scared at all, confidence swelled within him whenever he thought about the immense odds he might face. Of course, he decided that Kiyomi might get the wrong impression if he made this evident. He knew that it was an unavoidable consequence of his personality to deny the likelihood of his defeat even when victory seemed impossible. However, others might see this as being simple recklessness when in reality it was something much more profound. He wondered if the fact that he was skewing the truth would be more evident in telepathy than regular conversation.

Hitei refocused on what Kiyomi was saying. “And yeah I am starting to feel pretty tired, but I can manage as long as I need to”. That was the full truth, as tired as he was, he wouldn't dream of stopping to rest or slowing down. He messily finished off the last bits of his snack bar, gulping it down and sucking the remains off his fingers. “That said, I have no idea where we are, do you know if we're getting close?”.

The long march was nearing an end thankfully. Kiyomi knew via one of the lead scouts that they would be reaching the land of Lighting in a matter of minutes. She had noticed Yoru looking back at her. He was no doubt nervous about what she had said, and she honestly couldn't blame him. Still, when she noticed his head turn in her direction she couldn't help, but to give him a pleasant smile as if she hadn't told him anything. "See something you like? Eyes forward Yoru. We're almost there."

Her telepathy was still focused on Hitei though. She'd continue to focus on their conversation for now. "That's understandable. I was the same way on my first mission out of the village. Hell I was the same way on my first mission despite it being gardening. Don't worry though we're about to be across the border into the land of lighting. I'll give you some advice though. Your basic academy jutsu are the best thing for you to rely on. Especially substitution and henge. They use little chakra and will get you out of many situations. Too many shinobi, myself included, rely on the big flashy skills to get the job done, when in all honesty a kunai and a simple substitution will work just as well. Also rely on your comrades and never be ashamed to ask for help. You do that and you'll be fine. You look plenty strong to me. You do well on this mission and your chances of achieving chuunin are fairly high. Rise up those ranks fast so I can retire early!"

Kiyomi was hardly two or three years older than Hitei, but she liked making the jokes about retirement. Most shinobi honestly didn't get to reach that lucky age sadly. Kiyomi could get lucky and be able to retire early due to status, but she wasn't holding her breath. Suddenly the trees ended and they group of shinobi was on the rocky terrain of the land of lighting. They had arrived. "Alright guys we've made it here with no issues. Just a little longer and we'll be at the rendezvous point. Stay alert even after we reach there. I wish you all luck on your assignments.

With that she fell silent save for relaying messages if the need came up. They'd arrive at the rendovous point with no incidents a short time later.

With Kiyomi's statement Yoru's face instantly turned red, while he wouldn't lie and would admit if asked that she was very attractive. Yoru had been glancing her way for other reasons. Now his only hope was that she wouldn't catch him blushing as brightly as he was. Yet following her orders Yoru kept his eyes forward looking around for any signs of trouble. Yet he did still feel a bit relaxed that they would soon be arriving at Lightning country. Yoru couldn't help but feel a little nervous, as every time Yoru was about to enter a new country he would start to feel nervous.

Yet any nervousness that Yoru had was quickly switched to excitement at the thought of a new place. However now they were heading for a mission not a vacation. SO that left Yoru with the only choice to suppress his excitement until after the mission. Once again Yoru stole a quick glance over to Kiyomi, though quickly catching himself as to not seem creepy. Once again his blush began to cover his face that he instantly tried to suppress. Yoru had no idea why he was acting this way yet maybe that was because she threatened his life.

When Kiyomi's voice entered Yoru's mind once again, he couldn't help but feel startled. Yoru was not used to someone entereing his mind so easily and whenever they wanted. Yet now was not the time for getting startled now was the time to listen. After Kiyomi finished speaking Yoru felt a bit happier knowing that they were almost to the rendezvous point. Yoru had been told that they would be splitting off into groups for separate assignments he just didn't know any of his team members. Now gripping his sheathe a bit tighter Yoru was ready for what ever this mission would bring to him.

Hitei sighed and calmed himself down. Whatever his state of mind, it was hard to keep from being uneasy one way or the other given the circumstances. They were approaching the end of the tree line as he continued to listen to Kiyomi's advice. What she said about the academy jutsu made sense, though it had oddly enough never really occurred to him. He looked at his right hand as he raised it and formed a fist, almost as if he expected to learn some new information just by glancing at it.

Hitei was, first and foremost, a taijutsu fighter, regardless of how effective he was at it, it was the style he was most comfortable with. Despite Kiyomi's advice, despite her experience, he somehow doubted that the academy jutsu would be his most powerful tool. Still, the principles of the advice were sound, remember to use the bread and butter techniques. His eyes narrowed ever so slightly as he acknowledged that it would be wise to compromise and rely on such regular techniques rather than the ones he had created himself.

Kiyomi's comment on retiring brought a sly grin to Hitei's face. It was both the idea of replacing her at such a high rank and the obvious cliché of someone’s death shortly before retirement. Not that he held any hopes, or even believed that she would perish on this mission. He simply found it amusing that she had invoked such a common cliché.

The trees came to and end and the group came leaping out of the dense forest. Hitei dropped to solid ground again and ran with renewed vigour as his blood boiled over with excitement. He could not possibly resist the grin forming on his face.
