| Yoru always loved playing board games as well as reading books, there was something about trying to out smart his opponent that appealed to him. SO when he was invited to take part in a four way chess game he was more than to play. As he approached the area he was supposed to play he was surprised to see the building was giant. It must have taken forever to build it yet now was not the time to be getting amazed by the building he had to focus on the game he was about to play. The thought that they had picked this building in order to throw off Yoru's mind had not been off of his mind. Yet even with his surprise Yoru was able to put it off his mind, right now he had to throw off his opponents minds by being so early. As he walked up to the large wooden door in front of him he noticed a large door knocker made completely of brass. Yoru had always found brass to be an interesting choice for anything yet he found it beautiful. Gripping the door knocker in his hand Yoru gave it a good swing making it slam against the door with a resounding boom.
Shortly after Yoru had knocked on the door it was opened up by a man much smaller than him that it was surprising he was able to move the door. "Yamamoto-sama I would have to guess. You are just on time follow me please." Again Yoru was surprised to see that he was not the first one to come up with the idea to be the first one there or even early. As Yoru followed the man he was thinking maybe he should ask him what to expect from his opponents. Finally Yoru spoke up, "So I don't know the men that I am meeting up with do you think you could tell me what I should expect from them?" The small man smiled as he turned to Yoru while still walking down the long hallway. "Well the first thing you should know is that these are not people that you would expect to normally see in a situation such as this. Also don't underestimate them simply because of the way they are dressed or look they are very skilled at this game and may prove to be to much for you. Ah here we are." With that the man and Yoru came to a large door that the small man opened with no trouble. As Yoru and the man entered the room Yoru saw a table in the middle of an observation room where people could watch them from above. With the lights all pointing towards the table it made it impossible for anyone to see who was watching the game. Sitting at the table were two men one was dressed as a fisherman while the other was dressed as a noble.
At that the small man spoke loudly, "Yamamoto Yoru and Himura Kenshin." With that the small man sat at the table with the other two. In the back of his mind Yoru swore at being tricked by the small man yet the entire time he didn't show it on his face. Instead taking his seat Yoru nodded to the other two opponents. He was going to have to keep his eye on this Kenshin man. With all the players now together the game could begin and with Yoru being the pure white pieces he began the game off with a simple move of his knight. With that the game was under way and each player began to watch and analyze every move that his opponent's would make. Yet even with the game in full swing it was no long until the first person fell to superior tactics. Reaching forward the noble knocked his king over and bowed to his three opponents and walked off. With one person gone it would prove a bit harder to survive against the remaining two people.
While Yoru could focus on Kenshin he also had to worry about the fisherman, as such he was going to have to play it a bit defensively and analyze the next set of moves. Moving his bishop back to his side of the board Yoru created a simple defensive wall around his king and began to watch his opponents for their next moves. First it was the fisherman who made an aggressive move against Kenshin. However he had been able to miss the next move that led to his downfall as Kenshin quickly moved his knight into position for the checkmate. Now all that remained was Yoru and his opponent Kenshin, as it was Yoru's move he began to analyze the board for any good moves. Yet Yoru was faced with the problem of Kenshin's queen. Any move Yoru would make with his wall would result in a quick checkmate. Yet in the end he saw a perfect move that would him to sacrifice his queen. Grabbing his queen Yoru moved it to where his opponent's knight was and said clearly, "Check." Leaving his queen open was painful yet it was important if he was going to win this game. Kenshin quickly grabbed his own queen and took Yoru's just as he had planned. Quickly grabbing the bishop from his wall Yoru took Kenshin's queen and once again said, "Check." Yet Yoru had failed to see his opponents bishop that was now in the position that it needed. Moving his piece Kenshin moved it and with a simple statement the man said, "Checkmate." Yoru was in shock he truly had been bested, yet he was not a sore loser as he stood and gave Kenshin a respectful bow. With that Yoru made his way out of the room, Yoru knew that you don't always win but you have to learn from your losses in order to become better at what you do. |
