| Subject: Nin/Tai Chakra Rates Sat 04 Apr 2015, 8:37 pm | |
| One thing I've frequently noticed, having taken on both Weaponry and Taijutsu users in the past, is that seemingly basic attacks consume the same amount of chakra as a ninjutsu technique. I think it makes sense for techniques which have an elemental component to them, but for those that do not, it seems slightly costly. I mean, if you think about it, Taijutsu users usually have a greater amount of stamina because they've trained excessively in the art, same with weaponry. It leaves me wondering
Even the most basic striking techniques have chakra costs that are equal, slightly above, and slightly below the cost of a ninjutsu technique (examples below).
Taijutsu
- Spoiler:
Name: Dynamic • Action (Dainamikku • Akushon) Rank: C Type: Taijutsu Range: Close (0m - 5m) Element: N/A Description: The user flips towards the opponent and attacks with a series of punches and kicks. Chakra Cost: 8
Name: Konoha Dai Senkou - Leaf Great Light Rotation Rank: C Type: Taijutsu Range: Close (0m - 5m) Element: N/A Description: The user charges at their opponent and unleashes a powerful lateral kick aiming at the head that will spin his or her opponent away. This technique can certainly cause a head ache. Chakra Cost: 8
Weaponry
- Spoiler:
Name: Kyūsoku Shotto - Rapid Shot Rank: C Type: Weaponry Range: Mid-range (5M-10M) Description: Focusing on speed rather than power, the user rapid-fires arrows one after another, up to three arrows in quick succession. Because the user is aiming to fire more arrows faster, some power and accuracy is sacrificed in order to maintain the pace. Chakra Cost: 6 CP
Name: Dengen Shotto - Power Shot Rank: C Type: Weaponry Range: Long (10M+) Description: The user briefly overdraws their bow, giving the following arrow increased penetrating power and range, easily capable of crippling a target with proper aim. Because the technique requires the user pulling back further than they normally would, this can be straining to the muscles of their arm. As such, without the Endurance SCs, the average user cannot use this technique in rapid succession (ie, minimum of 1 post between uses). Chakra Cost: 6 CP
Ninjutsu
- Spoiler:
Name: Goukakyuu no Jutsu - Great Fireball Technique Rank: C Type: Ninjutsu Range: Close (0m - 5m) Element: Katon (Fire) Description: Katon • Goukakyuu no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique utilizing the Fire Element. The ninja does the necessary hand seals, draws chakra from their mouth into their chest and them immediately exhales it. They then blow a stream of fire which erupts into a large sphere of flames. To better manage the flames the ninja will bring their hand to their mouth to control it. Chakra Cost: 5 (2 per post)
Name: Gansetsukon - Rock Spear Rank: C Type: Ninjutsu Range: Close (0m - 5m) Element: Doton (Earth) Description: This jutsu allows the user to take a small chunk of rock and turn it into the shape of a staff. The user can then use it as a weapon or throw it at their opponent. Because it is made of thin stone, it is very brittle. Chakra Cost: 5
Name: Suiben - Water Whip Rank: C Type: Ninjutsu Range: Close (0m - 5m) Element: Suiton (Water) Description: The ninja will create a whip of water which can strike and bind an opponent. The user can also funnel lightning chakra to shock anyone wrapped in it. Can only affect one target at a time. Chakra Cost: 6 (2 per post)
Given that each ninjutsu attack has the potential to do a significant amount more damage than a taijutsu or weaponry technique of equal rank, I don't think it makes sense that the chakra costs are equivalent, especially because Taijutsu and Weaponry users are at a natural disadvantage against foes wielding ninjutsu, puppetry, and genjutsu for the most part. Yes, select SCs have the ability to augment players taking on a taijutsu or weaponry path, but the same could be said for all aforementioned types of fighters.
A C-Rank taijutsu user can expel their chakra reserves in a matter of 6-8 strikes, despite their rudimentary nature. I mean, honestly, should a simple kick cost 6 CP?
I know it would be hard to implement, but here's the suggestion I make to help remedy the problem and make the two forms more desirable and adequate for combat:
If the technique is not elementally enhanced, it should cost half the CP of equal ranking jutsu.
D Rank: 1-2 C Rank: 3-6 B Rank: 7 -9 A Rank: 11 - 15 S Rank: 18- 22
While the change is minor, it is enough to allow users several more attacks, within reason, depending on their rank. All numbers are subject to change, as it is just an example, but I don't think the consideration to be completely asinine.
Lemme know what you think! |

| Hello, I will try to adress some of your claims as a Staff member (not a real one, just evals, but still...). First of all, yes, to some extent your claim that Tai and Wep techniques should cost less chakra than Nin and Gen is correct, Ninjutsu and Genjutsu are much more complicated techniques that focus on chakra manipulation far more than Taijutsu and Weaponry. That being said:
1) You have claimed that Ninjutsu of the same rank has potentially more killing power which is simply untrue: you can easily kill a person with a C rank weaponry technique which is simply "A very strong sword slash" while C rank lightning does not even leave burns, it is annoyance level at best. Lower ranked Wep/Tai is simply more damaging and costs less chakra however it places the user in close range (possibly unless it's a long range Wep attack which are bit weaker).
2) I will explain the simple canon logic behind why something as simplistic as a punch or a kick would cost chakra at all: Taijutsu and Wep techniques usually surpass your characters natural physical abilities, your Wep sword slash might be faster/stronger/in some other way superior to an ordinary sword slash which comes from some process that has something to do with chakra - chakra enhances your body to accoplish those feats and it is something I've tried to unsuccessfully convince people of. Contrary to popular belief in Narutoverse if you wish to surpass the natural human limits you need to master chakra manipulation because it is the energy that makes you cross the superhuman line. You do not cap the human line by lifting weights and then go superhuman by lifting them some more because that's just stupid
3) As for the chakra cost argument, I'd say that it is not entirely justified. Wep/Tai techniques are why we have ranging chakra costs for techniques. If you use a Ninjutsu/Genjutsu technique it should only be accepted if it costs maximum the required chakra cost and for Tai/Wep lower costs are justifiable because they do not use the complicated aspects of ninjutsu and chakra control like Shape Manipulation etc...
In other words, let's say a technique can potentially cost 2-4 CP, you can reasonably ask the Staff for your Tai/Wep technique to cost 2 or even slightly less than the actual minumum cost for the rank, while you'd probably have to have your Gen/Nin cost the maximum because of the complexity. I don't think that it would make sense implementing such drastic cost reductions however it might make sense to separate chakra costs of ninjutsu/genjutsu techniques and physical ones. Perhaps the physical ones would not be half the big ones' cost but slightly reduced minimum cost is IMO well justified.
I hope I helped you explain theleologically what was the basis for the current way things work, if there are still some questions I'd like for you to specify them so that Admins or real Staff members have more concrete questions and suggestions when they take their time out of their busy schedules to read this topic (not that it is not well written up and well argumented, well done on that!). |
