Because of their strength, everything including their weapons becomes lightweight, and they can perform quicker assaults with their weapons. They can also now naturally deliver more powerful physical blows that can shatter bone.
Today is a good day. When Heiki open his eyes this morning and felt the sunshine pressed warmth on his skin, he knew that today was the first day for the rest of his life. He pulled the covers off of his bed and got up from the bed. The curtains that were draped over the windows had once darken the room entirely so that the moonlight didn’t come in that night. With a small slit, there was a creak of sunlight that made a pathway towards his bed and onto his face. It must’ve moved just a tad bit. It was almost as if someone purposely did it and wanted Heiki to wake up at this time. He slid the curtains from its position and saw that the outside to the vast space of the open mountain plains. He could grasp that the plains held a green that no artist could copy with clear skies that made it appear as clear as the bluest ocean. Next to the window was a sakura tree, planted by his mother a few months after he was born. The petals began to fall softly as a mild wind past it. His eyes trailed one of them that set slowly on the outside window sill of his room.
“Heiki!” he heard his mother’s voice through the closed door “Your sensei will be here in five minutes. You better be up!” She heard her walk away and into the kitchen. Heiki hit his forehead with his palm. That was right, today was the day that he would be learning a few things from Jiyuu-sensei. Oh crap, he thought it was tomorrow. He has a horrible sense of timing. There were moments where he would sometimes be too early or too late for an event and he leaned towards the latter than to the former.
Heiki had only five minutes. He looked around his room and saw the pile of clothes that he forgot to put away in his dresser and closet. He did a little hop and dove into the large pile of clean clothes. Clothes went flying everywhere, on the bed, on the dresser, on his awards, on his-well everything. He found his training garb, a loose and baggy pants and just a tank top. It was going to be a hot day today. Did he need his ninja boots? He contemplated about it and then thought against it. He took off the socks he was wearing and threw it with the dirty clothes that was piling up next to his nightstand.
He open the door and ran out the room and passed the kitchen. He could hear his mom washing dishes and with that mother intuition, without even turning around, said “You’re going to clean that room when you get back young man. I mean it too.”
“Ok mom” he said, the only response that he says automatically whenever he is in a rush. Of course his mother would nod her head each time expecting Heiki to finish cleaning his room but of course whenever he got home either her husband, Seishin, had tired him out to the point where his body is non-responsive or Heiki’s sensei who was just like her husband and did the same thing. Heiki always thought she didn’t take that into consideration but when looking at it, she does and she never expected him to clean it up anyway.
Heiki was already out the door and on the path out of the house. He came across a few of his clansmen; young men, boys and older men training each other through physical and intense combat that seem to never end in this household. From a perspective of someone who has never seen the Kurayami trained, it looked even just as intense as the villages’ black operation training. Some may compare it to be harder seeing the young boys fall over when their bodies just couldn’t go on. Heiki has gotten use of the looks his friends on his squad who came to visit the clan compound once every while. The looks on their faces was indeed classic out of the simple misunderstanding of their teaching methods.
But there was time later to think about that. Right now, he was getting to train with Jiyuu-sensei, the only person he knew who thought the training regimen of his clan actually looked like an interesting challenge. It was forbidden for anyone of the clan to tell someone of their secrets for it had been past down from generation to generation, blah blah, yadda yadda. Heiki didn’t care at the time and that was far behind him as he didn’t really see the consequence of such actions. He only thought how interested Jiyuu-sensei would be seeing he was also a prominent user of taijutsu itself. He was always excited when he took the time to train Heiki seeing that had taught him two styles that were also secretive so Heiki thought it was fair trade in telling each other secrets.
He had passed through meters of open plains seeing only the occasional farmer or travelling salesmen. It was a lengthy way to Kumogakure. He could see, at a distance, the vague shapes of buildings in the mountains. It was beautiful at sunset when the sun was behind the mountains and the slits of light move passed the large gaps of the mountains into the village. He wondered if anyone ever took the time to just notice a small thing like that.
Heiki saw in the distance a man walking along the middle of the road. With that movement, the way he had one hand in his pocket and one hand holding something, he knew it was his sensei. He had an eager smile on his face. He quicken his pace to Jiyuu. Heiki had reached him in that short distance and Jiyuu wasn’t prepared for him. His eyes were focus down on a copy of Icha Icha Paradise that he was into at the moment. He was reading a paragraph where the two were about to make sweet love. He was momentarily interrupted when Heiki peered over the book “You reading that boring book?”
Jiyuu closed it and sighed of heavy disappointment “When will you learn that this is not a book for young children to read and besides it’s not boring, it’s very entertaining.”
Heiki made gagging noises grabbing onto his throat in a gesture of how disgusting it was “Please, that stuff looks boring anyway. I don’t care if I am a kid or not, that stuff looks absolutely bland.”
“Tch” he waved him off with a hand moving on to the next subject “I suppose you were woke up by your mom again?” he points to Heiki’s clothes which were wrinkled. Heiki nodded but shrugged mildly. Jiyuu crossed his arms “Well, I suppose we can get those wrinkles out. What do you say we help you with your training eh?”
“Sensei, you don’t have to tell me twice. I’m all ears…or eyes…or body…err whatever, I say let’s do this!” he pumped a fist into the air
“Whoa, looks like somebody has some excitement running in their blood. Don’t get too excited or else you’ll start hurting mid way through this”
Heiki had raised an eyebrow, one side of his mouth sneered with a “really?” gesture. If there was one person who didn’t get the fact that Heiki doesn’t, or rather can’t feel pain it was Jiyuu. He wondered what he thought about when Heiki’s body suddenly just collapsed and Heiki never said ‘ouch’ or “this hurts a lot” in any of those cases. He just laid there, body tired and strained waiting to recover and adapt.
“What?”
“Nothing” Heiki just walked past him “Let’s get this party started.” Heiki trailed off but Jiyuu was right beside him moving into towards Kumogakure.
They arrived at the grounds only twenty minutes later. Heiki sat down with his legs crossed underneath and his hands on his knees, looking as if he was a monk ready to meditate. Jiyuu just shook his head at this gesture. Jiyuu went over beside a tree and pulled out something that appeared to be a vest but it wasn’t even closely that of a vest, it was just the only thing Heiki could think of. The vest was rather intricate looking from Heiki perspective. He saw that it had sleeves that were meshed together by something sturdy, the vest was roughly the size of Heiki’s chest which was getting more tone and wider. He saw that it also had leggings which were also comprised of the same material. Heiki stood up. Jiyuu immediately threw the vest at him the moment he did and the unprepared Heiki fumbled with it. His mind quickly realized that this thing was extremely heavy and it fell to the ground making a large thud. Heiki fell on his butt and just looked at the piece of equipment.
“What in the balls was that?”
“This is a weighted uniform. This will help you progress in your training as a taijutsu specialist and eventually a taijutsu master. But there is no point of you being a specialist if you can’t be strong enough to be able to damage your opponents quickly. We’re going to build on your muscle strength and your endurance. So put it on”
Heiki stared at him. It was an open eye stared, the stare a person gives when they just heard a very crazy statement. But Heiki eyes glisten even more and he grabbed the suit. “Uhh, should I take off my clothes”
“If you want”
Heiki looked around to see if anyone else was watching. The only living creature with them was Jiyuu and the animals that have made this training ground their home. He took off his tank top and his sweat pants leaving only his undergarment on. He put this vest or rather suit on and zipped it up. He felt an instantaneous heaviness when he tried to zip up the zipper. Good lord this thing was damn heavy. When he finished zipping it, his forefinger and thumb touch. Whoa, wait, what? Heiki looked down and saw that the zipper had disappeared, completely and utterly disappeared. Panic, he patted around his neck area trying to find the feeling of a metallic object pressing against his skin. “Is this some kind of joke?” Heiki said mustering all the calmness he could bear. “If it is-
“Oh no, it’s not a joke. You see, this suit was design to be untouched by you or the one who has control over it for a limited time. You see this marks?” he points to Heiki’s shoulder. Heiki looked at the shoulders, then at the gloved hands, then at his thighs. They were seals. It read “Weight” within those locations.
“Kumogakure wanted a test dummy to try this bad boy out, to see if it was possible for taijutsu users to go through strength training via weighted vest. They made only one and it was perfect for your size so I volunteered you” Heiki was in disbelief at this point and had every urge to try to rip this thing apart but before his hands could even grasp the fibers Jiyuu continued “This thing cannot be removed for-“ he looks at the watch on his waist “A good month or so. Now don’t worry, it isn’t as bad as it look. See, you have a place where you can take a dump and take a piss if that is what you are worrying about”
Heiki grabbed Jiyuu’s collar, as slow as he was moving with the heaviness in his arm, he grabbed it anyway pulling him down to his face “You mean to tell me that this thing is stuck on me for a month!? Do you have any idea how bad that sounds at this point!?”
Jiyuu just laughed and raised up one finger “There is also one more condition. Those seals you saw? Every two days they begin to make it heavier and heavier. If you don’t adapt to it quickly, then well…you’ll be bed ridden for a long while so-“
Heiki looks at him, past the point of bewildered and now at the point of sudden and absolute denial. He didn’t want this happen, he didn’t want to believe this was happening. He felt so betrayed and utterly- for the first time, he just wanted to punch his sensei in the jaw or in the shoulder blade just hard enough to tear this his rotary cuff so he would have problems that that shoulder as long as he lived. He went through those stages of grief in a matter of seconds. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and then just sighed in acceptance. Jiyuu saw this and patted his head “Don’t worry; I’ll be here with ya for that month. I get to see you progress in this and make sure it doesn’t-you know- crush you”
“Oh joy, what my luck to begin with seeing that my sensei gets to watch me suffer.” He lowered his head. His sensei tapped the back of his head. Heiki turned and saw that he was moving away from him. Heiki began to walk slowly following him.
Heiki remembered that month of training his sensei and him had. He was told that he couldn’t return home for that month otherwise seeing that 1) his mother would have an initial freak out on him and Jiyuu and most likely the case his father seeing that he was probably informed about this first and never seems too fond on telling mother about his situation. He couldn’t comparatively say that it was the hardest thing he had ever experienced in his life. He could come to the conclusion that it was probably, at the time, a hell of a challenge to complete.
Jiyuu’s training regimen was somewhat similar to Heiki’s father regimen only it was just Jiyuu that replaced his father. During that month he performed more squats than he ever had to do with large rocks tied to him. He had to drag up more rocks (again up that same hill his father made him do. He would drag them up the hill from day break to dawn. If Heiki hadn’t fainted, Jiyuu would train him some more which was the case every day of that month.
He would force Heiki to run in water. Not on top, in it. Jiyuu wanted him to adapt to something like this just in case there was ever a need of him running out of chakra and he was in dire case of treading through water. When that seems to go well, Jiyuu would force Heiki to carry a large heavy long over his shoulder so that he would be able to do it if he had to carry a group of people all at once. Though why Heiki wanted to carry a group of people, he had no idea but whatever the case he followed and listen without much compliant.
What was truly amazing was how each time he got heavier and heavier, Heiki began to feel the effects for just a few little bit, maybe a few hours or so and then he would adapt to it pretty quickly. He wondered if this had anything to do with his ability to adapt to things quickly without getting himself broken in a mess. He realized at this age that Jiyuu took the opportunity to use Heiki as an experiment seeing that he was probably the only one who knew what Heiki’s full potential was. Indeed, Jiyuu was one brilliant man who never underestimate Heiki for a second. He probably would’ve never done the procedure otherwise. Well, Heiki did have second thoughts seeing that Jiyuu was crazy enough to shove a book into someone’s rectum while singing the song to his favorite single. Either or, Jiyuu was insane.
The month was up. Just as Jiyuu promised, the zipper returned out of the seal. Heiki grabbed it and zipped his the vest down. Heiki’s skin had finally breathed in air that wasn’t confined in a skin tight prison but the sensation of unzipping himself felt odd to him in a sense. He took his legs out of the leggings and grabbed his pants and shirt that he was going to wear that day.
“All right.” Jiyuu said “Let’s see what has increased. I want you to punch in that tree” he points to the tree behind him “Hit that baby as hard as you possibly can”
“As hard as- “Yes, as hard as you can.” He smacks the bark of it, rubbing it down at the spot for him to punch
Heiki looked at spot where Jiyuu wanted him to punch. He walked over the tree. He cocked his hand back and released it in a powerful fist into the tree. He expected his hand to cause a bit of a dent into the tree, maybe just a crack or so. What surprised him was that his hand continued into the tree creating a hole until Heiki’s hand reached to back of the tree. He made a perfect circle though it wasn’t a clear cut inward. Heiki pulled his hand in and looked at his hand “Whoa” was the word that came out of his mouth and it was the only word that came out of his mouth.
