| Beneath the heavy cloak Saya was breathing hard. She had practiced all her life with at least some weight on her back, but this was too much. The cloak was cumbersome and warm and it slowed her down noticeably. The metal plates that covered the outside of the fabric would definitely keep her safe in the future, but their added weight was something of a surprise. In total there was close to sixty pounds of metal now covering her, and she could feel every ounce. The supple black leather the metal was fastened too clung well to her shoulders, a straight colar protecting the back of her neck from harm.
On her head sat another five pounds of metal, the conical hat that is typical of her family protecting her all around. Paired with her metal face plate, there was little flesh exposed to attack on the young soldier. Fully equipped she was training today, getting used to the encumbrance of her newly designed armor. She did feel safe beneath it, but she wasn't so sure she liked how much it slowed her down. In spite of the added weight, Saya does not make her exercise any easier to compensate. If anything she trains harder, pushing her body to master the new form of defense and weight.
To this end, Saya wandered out of town for some practice time, and has been on the move all day. Through the surrounding farm lands and forests, the swamps and mist filled wilds around the city all see her explorative foot steps. She sprints at top speed, moving as if pursuing a hated foe through the trees, leaping great distances in her hasty travels. Even in the air the cloak drags her down, failing to flail out behind her as a simply cloth cape would. Instead it keeps her jumps low and long, and crushes down on her legs with each landing.
Saya just grits her teeth against the her aching muscles and presses on. A little slower than normal she travels, covering many miles in her travels. All day long she continues, not resting until the sun has set. Without rest or recreation, the whole of the day is devoted solely to learning the new weight of her movements. With each jump she better perfects her movement, until by the end of almost nine hours, she's come closer to mastering her new armor. When she was finally finished running, and the sun had completely fallen from the sky, Saya would be right back where she started. She'd be back at the city gates and near home, exhausted and ready to sleep. Saya needed her sleep, because she'd be doing this again tomorrow.
