It was early in the morning when the first rays of sun peered in through the window curtains, dancing on the young boy's eye lids. Today was the designated day of the mission he had taken, the scroll of said mission laying on his desk, half-opened and scribbled upon. The task was of a low rank and was an easy one at that, entailing physical labour coated by the nagging and rather annoying conversations, from women triple his age, whose lives have been spent among books instead of people. Enma wasn't an avid reader himself, although he could and enjoyed the activity from time to time, even though the idea of entering a library was a potentially scary and daunting one. As such, when the sun had finally got its way, it was a rather unhappy, scruffy-looking figure that rose from the bed slowly, yawning loudly. With a slow, blissful gaze that analysed the room he was in, Enma's emerald eyes finally settled upon the clock that told of his rather early awakening. The day was still young and he had at least an hour or perhaps even two before he had to arrive in front of the library, where he would meet his partner for this mission... and that was the most interesting part of the event, since stacking books in itself was horribly tedious. It was the fact that he would meet someone new that made him get out of bed, and go through all those mundane, albeit necessary activities. A quick shower, a quick meal, put some clothes on and try your luck with your messy hair. That was Enma's daily routine. Add to that list yawning a number of times, checking through a few jutsu scrolls, wrapping the genin kit around his leg and yawning a couple times more. Then he was finally ready and it was with a slightly forced, sleepy smile that he opened the door.
That very same smile flickered on and off, as he journeyed through the village that was still sleeping soundly. The streets were mostly empty, in lack of persons, whether citizen or shinobi, and as such, it was a rather boring and yet relaxing stroll that Enma had took. With the occasional spotting of a fellow yawning man or a happily humming lady, the youth hardly stood out at all, as he reached the destination and sat down on the large marble stairs leading to the entrance of the Library. Wearing his usual green jacket, brown trousers and a lazy-ish look, he ruffled his brown hair chaotically, in belief that he was making his appearance slightly better at least - that wasn't the case however, as his usual, strongly ordinary-seeming impression remained. As a shinobi, the youth lacked any particularly iconic features and as such, stayed quite anonymous amongst the crowd, even with that common forehead protector sitting neatly beneath his hair. However he still hoped that his partner-to-be would recognise him as the boy he or she would be spending the majority of this beautiful day with... which was a great shame. Working inside was always much better when the weather outside included plenty of wind and rain. It definitely removed the complaining aspect of the job. But that was not the case today. tied together with a smile but you're coming undone All seemed silent, except for her occasional rustling around within the covers of her bed. She hadn't noticed it just yet, but the sun was desperately trying to wake her with its bright rays. Not even the curtains could veil her from the light, as her rustling came to a stop just before she sat up sleepily. Mira rubbed her eyes, seemingly annoyed. That's when she realized she had slept in, and on an important day nonetheless. Her eyes grew wide, as she shot out of her bed to look for a change of clothing. How could she forget? And why didn't either of her parents bother to wake her? Today she was supposed to partake in her first real mission! Sure, it wasn't a high ranking mission, so it was more like grunt work, but it was still very important! And if the scroll she had received was correct, she would be aiding another fellow Genin of the village during this mission. Her stomach churned as she thought of her partner probably already on their way to the library, where they were supposed to meet. Unlike herself, they were probably there early. She frowned as she began to recall last night. She had arrived home late, as usual, from training. Her father was sitting at the dining table, with a scroll in hand and a smile on his face. The smile was enough to make her nervous, and the scroll made it obvious what was expected. She read the scroll, a mission assigned to her and another Genin. The details weren't even important at the moment, because she was just so shocked that she had finally been given a mission, and with a partner. The excitement itself was enough to keep her up the rest of the night, and by the time she had actually fallen into a deep sleep, the sun was already beginning to rise. It was no surprise that she slept in when she remembered these details. Fortunately, she didn't really feel tired. She assumed it was probably because she was anxious, especially considering her partner was likely someone she hadn't yet met. Mira only hoped that she would at least make a good impression, and so far she was already looking at concern of the great possibility of being late. With a new change of clothes, and a small but filling meal to get her out the door with a boost of energy, she practically ran as she made her way for the library. Her heart beat like a drum as she raced against time. She wasn't yet late, and if she wanted to make a good first impression, she would make sure she was right on time. There weren't many people out and about the village at all. She didn't blame them; she obviously wasn't much of an early bird herself. The lack of people did make it much easier to maneuver through the streets, and for that she was grateful. Her pace slowed down to a walk, still rather quick, but she wasn't running anymore. Mira made sure to breathe easy, as she approached the steps just before the library doors. She stopped in her tracks. There sat a young boy about her age. He wore green that complimented his eyes, and had rather noticeable, shaggy brown hair. It almost amused her because she was wearing her usual red robes, and her hair was rather untamed as well. She just stood there for a moment, observing him before she realized that he was most probably the fellow Genin for the mission. In attempt not to make their meeting anymore awkward, Mira straightened up in an instant before following with a greeting. “Ah... Hello. Are you here on a mission by chance?” Her tone was light and friendly, as always. She even managed a smile, though mostly shown through her eyes rather than on her face. She was happy and nervous at the same time, that much was pretty obvious whether she liked it or not. Regardless, she had high hopes for this mission. Mira not only looked to complete this mission without a hitch, but also hoped to make a friend... © Phantom Heart |

Falling asleep on the stairs of a library seemed like a rather tempting idea, especially since the circumstances demanded, that his body received a few more minutes of blissful rest. Enma had always been against waking up early although at the same time, he lacked the motivation to sleep more than was necessary, so whereas perhaps a truly lazy person would sleep forever and do absolutely nothing, the green eyed youth was only lazy in theory. In contrast to a real lazy-bones, Enma trained a lot and spend his time socialising, if socialising was the word for it, which namely included trying his best at conquering the hearts of girls with his experimental pick up lines that often went wrong (oh he had a million of those!) and generally messing about with his friends, whether new or old. Many of his academy class mates still kept in touch, and eating a cup of ramen together was customary and the polite thing to do. On the other hand, making friends amongst shinobi was strangely easy, for genin seemed to be drawn to each other as if magnets, demanding friendship as well as rivalry, or just an adrenaline filled spar, as many of them wanted. As such, his days weren't exactly idle or boring in any way or form. Except for the days that included a mission (or two, if he happened to be extremely unlucky!).
However he hoped earnestly that today would be different, that his partner would turn out to be a person that he either knew and liked, or someone brand new to add to his little list of contacts and acquaintances. Enma simply needed more and more people in his life - they made said life colourful and interesting. Every time he met someone new, that life grew brighter and he looked forward to the next day with increased passion, wanting to see for himself just what another sunrise would bring. Today, that sunrise brought a lone figure of a petite-looking girl rushing towards his half-asleep figure. She was indeed rushing, racing, running almost, though she slowed her pace down to a walk as she drew nearer, looking around with interest and most likely noting that he was probably the only other person around... which wasn't exactly true, but then he wasn't going to argue.
From afar, the petite girl looked quite pleasant, with her long, mostly straight brown hair and her contrasting choice of clothing, contrasting to the boy, who looked up from his slouched position, hoping that she was his partner. That and because he was naturally curious about her. As said, her choice of clothing was indeed was almost the opposite of his, for she wore an almost traditional looking kimono, a fiery red one at that, and what looked like a flower in her hair. That was typical of most girls, decorating themselves with either jewellery or accessories such as flowers to augment their beauty. Of course Enma was an avid believer of the idea, that beauty was on the inside, although... well, the outside did matter too. Just a little bit.... maybe.
As the girl came closer, did the youth notice more about the mysterious girl. Her hair was in fact not simply brown, but slightly auburn, which complemented her choice of red clothing. The look on her face was a little flustered, probably because she had been running and was no doubt a little anxious about this mission, a little like Enma himself, although he failed to put that impression across. Her skin was of a pleasant and healthy colour, much like Enma's, although that was hardly worth noting. On the other hand, the fact that her eyes were of a greatly unusual colour caught his attention, as his deep green emeralds stared briefly into her sparkling, warm ambers. Again, he looked back on her as a whole and came to the conclusion that he had misjudged her. She was in fact, an extremely pretty girl, which would make this task so much more harder than it had to be.
Missy-chan stopped in front of him, quite a few steps away, uncertain as to his role in all this and whether he was actually involved or even aware, that they were supposed to be on a mission together. Enma had already noticed the forehead protector, which the girl wrapped around her waist, as if a belt of some kind; the symbol of her village was reflected and mirrored on his very own headband, that spoke and declared proudly, that he was her peer. In rank at least, although it was likely, that they were of similar age.
Smiling automatically in response to her own smile, but also her light tone (reminiscent to his own. Enma got up quickly and rushed down the steps, stopping two feet away perhaps. He outstretched his hand and offered it to her, so that she could shake it, although was that what a girl and boy did? That was a gesture mostly reserved for two males, but he felt that it was appropriate for the occasion. "Hi!" he returned the greeting in a warm, melodic tone, almost mimicking her in the way she spoke. "I'm Enma but you can call me En-kun." he declared and encouraged with a wider smile. "What's your name? I think we are supposed to be partners for this book stacking mission" he asked and contemplated, his hand still extended. The youth could be so vibrant and slick, when he wanted to be. Word Count: 920

tied together with a smile but you’re coming undone It seemed he had been observing her as well, as he stated back from where he sat. She was almost taken back when he immediately got up, and stood before her. He then extended his hand with a greeting of his own. Her surprise might have been shown by her slightly widened eyes and half opened mouth, but she quickly recovered. He introduced himself by his first name, and naturally asked for hers before practically answering her previous question. She paused a moment, taking in the information. “A pleasure to meet you, En-kun. You can call me Mira.” She responded accordingly, and was sure to call him by his nickname like he had suggested. She was already being so careful not to say or do anything wrong. Directing her attention to his hand once more, she finally took his offer and returned the handshake. She would realize her grip was probably a bit stronger than most girls, and worry that alone might seem rather strange or intimidating, she couldn't be sure. Therefore, she would quickly but casually try to take her hand back with a light smile, and lead into her next response to his late statement. “Oh, good! I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long.” So far, this young man had proven to be kind and rather straightforward. Mira trusted they could easily work together to finish this tedious mission, and maybe get to know a little about the other in the midst of doing so. From how things were looking, she had a good feeling about her partner. She just hoped that she would be more of a help than a burden. She didn't want to mess things up, not when she was finally given an opportunity to prove her worth to the village and her fellow ninja. She especially didn't want to bring disappointment to her father, and almost shuddered at the thought. It would be foolish of her to loom on these thoughts, she needed to focus. If she could simply finish this mission without causing anymore trouble to the exhausted librarians awaiting them inside, she would feel accomplished. That would mean that she successfully finished her first mission, and proved that she could work with other people. For all she knew, this could be a test to see how well she worked with her fellow shinobi, and whether or not she would be fit for a team. But above all that, she would be one step closer to her goal. A lot of possibly important future series of events depended on this small task she was asked by her village. It was only natural that she would want to pass what she believed to be a test with flying colors. So she pulled herself together, and convinced herself that she could do this. Her usual worries flurried around in her head, but she was finally able to drown out all that noise, and begin to focus on the task at hand. After taking a deep breath and returning a smile to her face, she started up the steps rather quickly. As she reached the top, she spun around to face Enma once more. “Shall we?” Despite all her small insecurities, she was still anticipating what awaited them inside. It didn't even matter that the librarians were probably lonely, old women, or that they would probably scold her for having so much energy. For once, she was able to convince herself none of that really mattered. Sure, she would probably settle down if they wished, only because of her obedient nature. But they wouldn't get her down. Her sheer excitement beamed from her face and shown from her eyes which had a light of their own. As of right now, nothing could bring her down. Or so she hoped... © Phantom Heart |

Mira, what a beautiful name, was indeed Enma's mission partner just like he had assumed. Although assuming was something he did a lot lately, living in his head more than he lived in the real world. Perhaps it was the early training followed by too many random occurrences, which usually ended up (at worst) with a spar or (at best) with a party, which lasted till three in the morning. Unfortunately the best never came to Enma who was not an only child and as such, instead, had two brothers, who received more quality time in a day than he could amass in a week. He was such a poor thing in need of a long, friendly hug from an amazing, lovely creature such as Mira-chan, standing before him with that forlorn expression on her face... and she had called him En-kun, which was a nick name known to only his most trusted friends and the most prettiest of girls. How wonderfully quickly their relationship was forming! They were pretty much already the best of friends, only she didn't quite know it yet but no matter, he only had to arrange a few ramen eating sessions, maybe a bit of walking together in the light of the moon, followed by a romantic dinner and a sleepover, followed by a karaoke night and bowling... If only! He was just dreaming away, as always. Silly child.
Shaking away those ridiculous thoughts - Enma literally shook his head and at a very opportune time as Mira-chan said something about 'hope' and 'waiting', which the youth's head quickly transformed into a marriage proposal, until he dispersed these thoughts again, this time internally. "Not a problem" he assured her, smiling his little smile and using that melodic, light tone, as he watched her move away, up the stairs towards the great doors. As Mira walked, the boy bend down to pick up a little plastic bag that had been out of sight for a while, having placed it away from himself, resisting the temptation to devour its contents. As he looked inside, he reminded himself of why the temptation had been sitting inside his stomach in the first place, for the bag contained a bunch of foods he picked up on the way here. All of those were wrapped up neatly, so that the bottles, which contained some form of a non-alcoholic drink (he would have got them wine if he knew that it was Mira-chan and not some bloke) for later. Smiling at his thoughtfulness, he lifted the bag with ease and chased after the girl, all the way up to the doors, although she was there long before he got there. "This should be a piece of cake" he declared boldly and opened the door for the girl, like a true gentleman.
~~~~ After a short briefing, the boy was shown his pile, the girl was shown hers, and they were left in a row of empty shelves and a complete silence, by a rather cranky lady, who stank a bit of cigarettes, although her face was young and she looked to be comfortably in her thirties. Having placed his plastic bag down away for later, the boy scratched his hair absently, and whistled in surprise at the towering piles of literature waiting for him and Mira-chan to sort out. At least they had been put in to alphebetical order... right? RIGHT?! This was going to be a long day. Word Count: 570
tied together with a smile but you’re coming undone Enma reassured her that he wasn't bothered by her almost tardiness, and opened the door to the library for her, like a gentleman. She smiled sheepishly, he certainly seemed nice. Both his words and actions were building her hope that they might actually become good friends in time. It was no surprise that with such thoughts on mind that she couldn't seem to stop smiling. In fact, as they walked in and quietly briefed with the librarian who had basically summoned them both here, it was obvious that she wasn't fully paying attention as she would often find herself spacing out. It couldn't be helped, the girl was a dreamer. She was quickly awoken from her trance when the grumpy lady showed them to the piles of books they were to sort and shelf. In fact, her jaw dropped as she stared at the towers of paper and binding. There were several stacks, each as tall as the next, some just inches from the ceiling. It was amazing, but also intimidating. She was amazed at the fact that so much information was stored in the village library, and intimidated by the fact that she and her partner were expected to organize all of it. Mira could only imagine the time it would take them. With that in mind, she walked toward one of the taller piles and looked intently to the top. Being as small as she was, she might have to climb the books like stairs to take some from the top or carefully pull some from the middle. The former sounded safer at the time, and so she began. On the very tips of her toes, she reached high for the book on top and slowly pulled it from the pile. She trembled as she began to feel the stacks wobbling ever so slightly. Fortunately, she managed to keep her balance and gracefully step down from a few bottom books she used as a stool of sorts. However, when she got there safely, the top few books started to lean too far to the side. Too quickly for a sufficient reaction, they toppled over, and she cringed at the sound of them landing around her. Grateful that not one had hit her, she let out a sigh of relief and placed the book in hand on the shelf before her. One down. She was counting to herself ever so nervously as she repeated her daring actions, being even more careful than the last time. It was already clear it was going to be a long and exhausting day. Mira braced herself for the worst as she continued to place each book on the shelves, desperately trying to keep them all in alphabetical order. After placing so many books, she glanced over at Enma to make sure he didn't need any help. It wasn't that she didn't think he was capable of handling a few books on his own, but that she wanted to be a good partner and help if he really needed it. They were both sent on this mission, so it was expected of them to work together. She was just rather confused as to how they might help another in this situation. Mira stopped to think a moment, before coming up with some order to their dilemma. She turned to Enma, as her face lit up in reflection of her thoughts. “I think I might have a really good idea, and it may even help us complete this mission quicker. That is, if you're willing to listen.” A sly smile appeared across her lips as she thought of her possible accomplishment. If Enma was willing to work with her, the system she had in mind could make this tiresome work so much easier for the both of them. In fact, they might even finish in record time. Oh, what a pleasant thought that was... © Phantom Heart |
Once the work started, Enma paid less and less attention to the attractive girl, sometimes glancing at her from time to time to make sure that she was fine. And she was for the most part, and although she struggled, her independence and pride didn't allow her to ask for help or so he thought. At one point when she almost fell, Enma moved instinctively ready to catch her and protect her, but she was too far away and by the time he reached her, it was already too late. Luckily she hadn't been hurt and with an awkward, apologetic smile, he returned to his post, stacking books slowly, like a machine. Whilst his eyes scanned the title, found its order in the shelf, and his hand placed it there, Enma's mind was working furiously to think of a way of making this a faster process. He hated this monotone routine, and the fact that he had a partner to help him out in this mission was a sign and a hint, that there was a way for this task to become much smoother. However no matter how hard the gears in his brain turned, Enma was unable to make up a decent enough plan, the lack of knowledge about the girl except for how pretty he found her, nagging him to no end, stopping any plan in its tracks. At the same time, he didn't want to be too intrusive and was perhaps, not brave enough, to simply go up and ask her if she could think of a way of making the stacking process faster. Hopefully, the girl had the courage to do so and asked him the question, before the youth could gather up the strength to do so himself. She had beat him to the punch, and it didn't feel good to be out-confidenced, if here was such a word.
As he turned to face her, the youth smiled and nodded his head eagerly, answering simply to her request "Of course Mra-chan, what have you got in mind?" he asked simply, curious to know what her idea was. Despite her slightly sly smile, the youth decided to ignore this unusual change of expression, unsure what the gesture meant or what was going in his partner's head to produce it. As much as Enma was curious about her idea, he was still a little spiteful about the fact that she was taking lead in this mission, although it was never exactly decided who if either them, was to lead the other. He was a free soul and orders were not his thing... though a pretty girl such as Mira-chan could convince him with a simple smile, even if it was a sly and mischievous one. Word Count: 458
tied together with a smile but you’re coming undone His answer was no surprise to her, considering how eager and overall friendly he had been since their meeting mere moments ago. And when he smiled as he nodded his head, she did the same in response. After taking his thoughts into consideration, she continued where she left off. “I was simply thinking that maybe if we worked together in some manner, it could make this mission a lot easier... And I had an idea in mind...” She certainly had a habit of beating around the bush, as was obvious the moment she repeated herself. Mira paused to collect her thoughts once more, and she tried again with the pitch. “Well, maybe since you're taller and such... You could pull the books from the stacks with more ease... Then, I could sort them alphabetically into smaller groups... And we could finish by simply putting those groups into order on the shelves...” She started to feel like she was rambling again, and even began to lose confidence quickly the more she spoke. In an attempt to save herself had he thought her words foolish, she instinctively went back to her blathering. “I don't know... I was just thinking it might make our work more organized and efficient...” A flush of red began to rush to her face. It was as if her heart was rattling in its cage, as it began to beat faster. Embarrassment and diffidence was a feeling she knew all too well, and her weakness was beginning to show. This was yet another reason she needed to do more missions and work with other people, whether she realized it herself or not. With all the time she spent by her lonesome, completely focused on her studies and training, she lost a lot of her communication skills. She may have avoided problems with this in the past, with her classmates, but it was obvious now that she was lacking experience in something as simple as interaction. Nonetheless, it was enough to pull her from that throne of confidence she had built in the process of thinking up this small plan of hers, naturally making her lose her ground. “I’m sorry...” She muttered only these two words, a phrase she used more than often. Not even she was ever sure of whether she was apologizing to others, or to herself. Mira just stood there, a frazzled mess of her own thoughts. Her stomach twisted as her mind endlessly stirred. It almost made her dizzy. How pitiful it was, that as quickly as that small amount of pride was conjured up from within, it was torn to shreds by none other than her own self-doubt... © Phantom Heart |
The girl certainly liked to linger a little before she actually cut to the chase of what it was that she was trying to say, not that the trait was annoying Enma, who had been expecting high class leadership from his partner. Now however, he was somewhat happy to understand that in fact Mira-chan wasn't taking away his job as the leader of this task (a post which he was strangely obsessed about) and that he still had his chance to prove himself to her. Excited about that little fact, the boy listened intently to what the pretty girl had to offer, smiling at her moment of shyness, for she quickly lost track of her idea, which was normal and nothing to be ashamed of. Not everyone had the courage to even try to speak to a stranger, and even though they were partners for this particular mission, Enma realised that he hardly knew anything about Mira-chan. As such, it was here and then, that he decided that he would make it his sub-task to understand his friend a little more... but until then, with his encouraging smile and that light, melodic tone the boy spoke quickly, his mind rushing through his very own plan, "That's a good idea Mira-chan" he reassured her simply, nodding his head eagerly to further emphasize the fact that he agreed with her way of thinking. His lift his finger however and asked her to wait a few seconds, then dashed for the main hall as if a bullet fired from a gun, shouting at the top of his voice "Miss Librarian where is the toilet!?". It might have seemed a little crude, especially since Mira-chan would hear him shouting such a rather rude thing, but Enma wasn't actually in need to answer the call of nature. He had a plan.
Two minutes later, and the figure of a grinning boy returned to Mira's side, water dripping from him as if he was the embodiment of the Niagara Falls. Smiling from ear to ear, the youth failed to explain his sorry state of soaked clothing, as his hands clasped in a quick series of hand seals, that caused the water from his garments and hair to flow outwards and form into two humanoid shapes rather all too quickly, his bizarre drenched image returning to that of his normal usual, still-grinning persona in a matter of seconds. Slowly but surely, those shapes turned into him, mimicking his appearance before he decided to pour litres of water upon himself. One could call that an absolutely mad thing to do, although Enma personally believed the idea to be completely genius.
Once the clones had formed, it was then that Enma began to explain himself, still using his soft, sweet tone of a voice. "I thought that we could get through your pile whilst the clones went through mine" was the only reasoning he offered, grinning again as he jumped up lightly on to the mini stack of books, that Mira-chan had used as a stool of sorts. From there, the genin could easily reach the very top of the stack, although the use of tip toes was necessary to perform the feat. "Are you ready?" he asked, smiling in anticipation, as if he was about to prank the adorable girl before him. Hearing her answer was like a gong to him, the clones rushing into their jobs as if this was indeed a competition or a race of sorts. The youth grabbed the first book, then twisted swiftly and passed it to the girl in a matter of a second. "Bring it on fake Enmas" he shouted to the enthusastic water creations, causing the Librarian that was standing nearby reading, to look up startled. With a shake of her head, she muttered something unfavourable about shinobi, and left the team to their work. Word Count: 645 - Spoiler:
tied together with a smile but you’re coming undone He immediately liked her idea, and this made her eyes widen just a bit. Enma just smiled and responded in harmony at everything she said. It was reassuring, and made her conjure a small smile herself. But soon after, he ran off in search of the bathroom. It was normal for people to use such facilities, but the longer she waited, the more she wondered if he was trying to escape her presence. She was her own worst enemy at times, always paranoid and worrying what others thought of her. For once however, she managed to keep positive and tell herself he would be back. He had to come back, it was his mission too. With this thought in mind, she kept ever so patient until he returned. Enma was dripping, his clothes soaked from head to toe. Mira almost tilted her head at the sight of him, pondering what might have happened to him. She even found herself taking a step back, slightly repulsed by the water. Oh, how she hated water, although she herself wasn't entirely sure why. Staring at him, she couldn't imagine why he'd be smiling when he was that wet. Then suddenly, all that water began to float before him and take on its own shape. And eventually, those shapes began to look like him. Her eyes widened once more, having never seen such a thing. Due to her dislike of water, she generally stayed away from large bodies of it and anyone who was affiliated with the element. But for the moment, she was simply amazed at how easily he could morph it into such complex figures. She was both utterly bewildered and slightly intimidated by these clones he quickly created with such ease. He further explained his intentions, leading to a plan that assisted hers. His clones would gather books from the other piles, while Enma himself helped her finish gathering and sorting her stack. He immediately climbed her makeshift stool, and began to hand off books one by one as soon as she was prepared. She separated them first by their beginning letters, as it was easy and quick. Then when they finished pulling literature from a pile, she would further sort them into more alphabetical groups. As soon as she finished with her stack, she could now continue to sort the rest of the piles gathered and grouped by the clones Enma made. As she had hoped, with the additional teamwork, everything went smoothly. Before she knew it, Mira was placing the last few books on the shelf. All that worry and everything went as planned. She couldn't be more grateful. As they finally completed their mission, she found herself carelessly chatting away over a shared lunch, with her partner and new found friend. So it seemed everything had actually gone better than planned. It was no surprise that she was smiling ear to ear, ecstatic about her accomplishments. It was a great feeling, to complete her first mission, and with a partner who had quickly became a friend. Naturally, she wanted to express her gratitude. “Thank you.” Two sincere words that escaped her lips, although she felt it would never be enough. Little did he know, he had given her a small boost of self-esteem, something that was long past due. No one else had done that for her. They only pressured her and pushed her to do better, rather than giving her the support she needed. It was strange how things worked out. This boy, practically a stranger to her, had given her more than her loved ones had in years. A genuine smile was placed on her face as she thought of this. How strange, indeed. But she couldn't be any happier... © Phantom Heart |
The two kids worked well as a team, flying through stacks and piles with great enthusiasm, making small talk along the way, finding out bits and pieces about each other throughout the task. It was clear however that with the limited time they had, nor Enma nor Mira could possibly even begin to understand each other, hardly making any significant discoveries along the way. The task took priority and although they had what one could possibly call a 'good time', the constant threat of the youth's creations being quicker and more efficient to them, caused the two to often pick up the pace. At the end of the task however, the green eyed genin was content with how well this mission went. It was then over a shared lunch that was in a way, a reward of sorts for all this glorious work they had done, that Mira said something rather unexpected. It confused the boy and nagged him to no end, although he didn't want to push her. They were still far from being good friends after all.
Thank you. Those words were a mystery to young Enma and yet they simple further increased his curiosity in the girl that was sat next to him. She had been smiling and chatting carelessly, but now that she said those two particular words in that order, the atmosphere and things suddenly became quiet, that eerie silence that libraries were famous for kicking in. And he didn't know what to say, because how could he when he didn't know what she was thanking for or perhaps, who exactly was she thanking. The most obvious thought was that Mira was simply happy just how quickly the task was carried out, but Enma already guessed that she was much more than a shallow girl of clear emotions. His mission partner was a deep mystery, and he was rather keen to take a peek inside that head of hers.
As such it was with a smile and a good, little act from the boy that he picked up the mood. The youth's theatrics were a nice touch - they included him closing his eyes, his right hand venturing over to the back of his head where he ruffled his hair in a nervous nick, whilst he laughed out sounding a little embarrassed. "No need to thank me" he assured her, his eyes opening slightly just to see her reaction, although the impression remained intact. The laugh was short lived and when he stopped, his grin also subsided as his face took on a 'matter-of-fact' look. "Or maybe you could eat lunch with me tomorrow?" he asked innocently, in his more usual, merry tone. "I know this great place! It's called the Mango Tree and it's really cosy, and the food is amazing" he added, trying to convince her as best as he could, not that Enma was particularly good at it. Then again, the youth wasn't blushing, stuttering or anything of the sort, calmly and slowly trying to persuade the girl. What would she say? Word Count: 510
tied together with a smile but you’re coming undone He replied with his usual smile, but this time closing his eyes and rubbing his head in what she thought an almost nervous matter. She immediately became attentive as he spoke, insisting there was no need to thank him. Mira simply smiled brightly, though she had no intentions of taking back what she said. He laughed a little. She was unsure why, but he kept the same expression. Then he continued from where he left off. It took her awhile to catch on to what he was saying, or more so asking of her. And as she began to put her thoughts aside and pick up on his words, her attention only grew even more. She came to realize that he was casually asking her to accompany him to lunch the following day. Mira wasn't exactly sure as to how she should respond, considering that most people their age would call it a date. She wasn't so sure that was what he was implying, and she didn't see any harm in an innocent lunch with a new friend. Besides, how else would they get to know each other more, or improve their friendship for that matter? It was perfectly normal for friends to go to lunch together, and attend other means of 'hanging out'. It was totally normal. For normal people that is, and that was it, Mira wasn't very normal. This would be the first time since her days at the academy that she would spend time with someone other than her lonesome self. It was understandable that she was nervous and even intimidated by the idea, but even she knew she was in desperate need of a friend. And his enthusiasm only encouraged her even more. Then she thought of what her father might say, and she froze. Surely if she said she was going to meet a boy for lunch, he would suspect that she was dating. And just how he might react to this, she had absolutely no idea. Her mother would probably get all giddy and insist on picking out an outfit for her to wear, or do her hair up all nice. That was like her mother, always overdoing everything. But she was also always positive about everything Mira did, and trusted she would make the right decisions. That or she figured Mira would learn from her mistakes. But all that was far from her current worry. If there was anything she was sure of, it was that her father was a mystery. She absolutely dreaded the thought of disappointing him, or otherwise upsetting him by any means. But she honestly couldn't be sure that he would even care who she associated with, seeing as for the longest time she didn't associate with anyone at all. Before her worrisome mind could talk her out of it, she quickly gave him her answer. “That sounds very nice... I would be glad to join you...” Although her hesitance made her response less enthusiastic than she had liked, she was sure to smile so that she wouldn't seem anymore awkward than she already was. She nervously tucked some of her hair behind her right ear, waiting for him to tell her what time they should meet and any other important details. Mira knew she made the right decision, but couldn't shake that anxious feeling that her decision might hold consequences elsewhere... © Phantom Heart |
The youth smiled from ear to ear, his heart jumping and clapping loudly in joy. Enma earnestly wanted to jump up and do a little dance of victory, though the idea was hardly appropriate for the situation. Or was it? This was a date of sorts after all, and the girl accepted his coy invitation with a smile. And that of course, meant a whole lot more to him than it was supposed to. With increased energy, the youth chatted a little more, acting his addictive lively self. He smiled more often and even whistled to himself when he thought she wasn't looking. Even though there were a few left over books to place somewhere in the neatly sorted out shelves, Enma did so whilst humming some merry tune and twirling around gracefully, moving around like a busy bee, pushing in one book there, and replacing another here. It was all well, but the mission was over and even though the youth wanted to linger, the library was closing and it was getting a little late.
Still, the sun was up in the sky when the two finally left those silent halls, onto a street that was now so much more lively. At this point, his wild energy had dampened greatly and Enma even yawned before he quickly covered up his mouth, and laughed out, apologising for his rudeness. But then, they really had to part and he knew there was nothing else that could keep them together. And so it was with a quick flurry of hands that Enma took out some scrap piece of paper, and noted down his address quickly in a slightly messy, but at the same time quite stylish handwriting, which somewhat reflected his persona. "Here is the address of my house" he said simply, pressing the little note into her hand. "Just ring the bell and ignore anything that my mum might say" he said smiling, although a slight blush formed on his cheeks as the youth suddenly realised just what kind of danger he was putting Mira-chan in. If his mum got her hands on her, she would talk for hours about how beautiful she was and why in the world, had she ended up with such a useless fellow, that was her son. Such great parenting skills that woman had.
"Just feel free to come any time in the afternoon. I will see you then!" he told her, beaming proudly, although the impression was a mixture of happiness and embarrassment. Swiftly after those words were said he waved goodbye as the boy slipped into the crowd before them, disappearing quickly although not for long. Shortly after his leaving, a boyish voice much similar to his broke through the everyday ordinary noises of the street, with a wild cry that sounded a lot like some kind of victory cheer, which sounded a lot like "Yahoo!". The source of the sound was however, never located.
tied together with a smile but you’re coming undone Although Mira couldn't properly express her joy at the idea of having lunch with a new friend, Enma seemed rather happy and energetic, even after a long day of work. A tired smile shown on her face, as she watched him help put the last few books on their shelves. She even heard him whistle or hum a tune here and there as he worked. He seemed to be keeping himself busy for the remainder of the time they had before the library closed. With that said, she knew it was getting late, even if the sun was still in the midst of setting. She even wondered if her mother was waiting for her with a home cooked meal, and a warm hug. And whether or not her father would congratulate her on successfully completing her first real mission. She also contemplated on whether or not she would mention how helpful her partner was, and that they became good friends during their mission. These thoughts perished as time seemed to vanish into thin air. She found herself walking outside after Enma, where he gave her a piece of paper with his address, and advised her to ignore anything his mother might say. This made her smile once more as she let out a small giggle, but instinctively tried to hide it with her hand. He told her she was welcome to meet him anytime after noon, then waved goodbye and slipped into the busy streets where he faded away with the crowd. She glanced back at the note, surprised that she could read it. His handwriting wasn't nearly as messy as any other boy's she had seen which seemed to astonish her. The shock subsided as she placed the note in a safe place so she wouldn't lose it. Then she turned to walk the opposite direction, toward her own house. What a busy day it had been, and her face made clear she was worn out. Her eyes were heavy, and she often found herself yawning as she let her feet guide her home. Mira began to think she needed to get out more and make even more friends. Since her mission went well with Enma, she was unusually optimistic regarding the topic of meeting new people. Maybe she was being naive, but that didn't matter. She was happy. Sure, she was tired, but she couldn't be any more satisfied with a day well spent. In fact, the more she reminisced about the day, the more she found herself smiling to herself. Finally, she approached her door, where her mother greeted her with a smile in return. Mira happily attended dinner with her family, and told her parents about her day. Like she had thought, her mother was excited about her socializing again, and her father didn't have a care in the world. He was just pleased she completed a mission, and in the process, didn't entirely embarrass herself. It was enough to satisfy her, and she went to bed with a full stomach. She laid down, comfortably fitting herself between the soft sheets. Then she stared at the ceiling as she usually did, deep in thought. As the day came to a close and she drifted off to sleep, she dreamed of even better days to come... [ Topic End ]© Phantom Heart |
