A leisurely stroll

Something so interesting about taking a walk was the people you saw. Hisoka saw shinobi, merchants, tourists, and people of many different levels of social class. Sometimes it was nice to just enjoy a peaceful day around town. No tedious chores or training to complete, the only restriction to the freedom would be time. It was mid-afternoon and the streets were filled with shoppers, a pleasant sign, given that war was now over. Though, this meant less action and salary for the shinobi of the village, who in fact made up the majority of the economy. Regardless, one had to appreciate the serene atmosphere the village now had as the citizens made efforts to repair what was formerly lost due to the chaotic times. Hisoka couldn’t tell whether the stores were actually staying open later into the evening, or if it was his own imagination, conjuring up a pretty little idea to go with the notion that times were better now.

Yet all was not pleasant. The day would have been perfect if it wasn’t for the humidity. Honestly, of all types of weather it had to be humid. The sticky, heavy air was very unappealing to the Genin and he pondered on what could quell the uncomfortable feeling that the weather produced. Rain, he concluded. Rain would feel so nice wetting his head, cooling off his body, Hisoka wouldn’t mind getting a little wet so long as doing so made him feel more comfortable. He wasn’t above running in the rain either, as cliché an action it may be. Despite the craving for rain, the Genin wasn’t dressed for such a change in weather. Walking swiftly through the streets, wearing a simple Prussian-blue and white kimono, with nothing else but a practically weightless Montsuki as an added layer, the youth could easily get drenched to the bone, and yet, he still wanted a downpour.

Much to the Genin's disappointment, the overcastted sky refused to let even a drop precipitate down onto the dry dirt streets that ran in a maze-like fashion through the village. Though Hisoka had walked extensively throughout the village in the past, the youth still took interest in observing the two-story apartments wooden structure, the small one-floor restaurants, and the stores sporting bright signs as a means to attract customers. There was a buzz that radiated from these streets, of many conversations occurring, many people interacting with friends, collogues, and completes strangers. Overall, Konohagakure was really a fine place to live, though there were times where Hisoka had been enticed by the sights and sounds of other villages.

With the current road he was walking on diverging into two, the Genin was forced to make a decision. One road was primarily residential, and venturing through it would prove to be quite a peaceful escape from the crowds on the wider streets. On the other hand, the next road had many food stands and various forms of entertainment which Hisoka might enjoy observing. Not that this was a very important decision, but even a leisure stroll could be eventful, and the youth needed to consider all possibilities that would come with walking on either of the two roads.

Hisoka's stomach provided the answer, its growling was fiercer than the strongest Jounin, and drew attention to the Genin from other pedestrians. Placing his hand on his stomach, the long sleeves of the kimono slipping back to his elbow, revealing the youth's light complexion, an unconscious rubbing of the untamable stomach occurred. It took only a moment to decide what food he wanted, and the Genin skillfully moved through the crowd, dodging people as they approached. A small opening presented itself and with nobody around to fill the area, Hisoka gracefully broke into a light jog, stopping in front of a stand where an older lady was selling Kakigōri. Ordering a green tea flavored one, Hisoka waited, somewhat impatiently, for the cool refreshing snack. He watched as the ice cone was sweetened with condensed milk, and as the wrinkled hand of the gray-haired lady passed over the delicious treat, Hisoka dropped the proper amount of currency into her hand. Giving a brief thanks, the Genin wandered back into the crowd, though more focused on his sweet than what was around him.

A savage look in the Genin’s dark eyes expressed his hunger, as his mouth plunged towards the mid-afternoon snack, taste buds received a shockwave of flavor as he did. Eager to finish the entire thing, Hisoka forced himself to wait at least a minute before each taste, allowing himself to savor and become enveloped in the cool sweetness of the Kakigōri; he could easily see himself becoming addicted to it as the weather got warmer. However, now the initial feeling of ecstasy was gone from the moment, and what once looked so enticing was melting slowly in his now cold hand. Finishing the snack without receiving a higher level of enjoyment than that of which he had when he took the first taste, Hisoka’s eyes narrowed slightly, the excitement which they contained lasting only while he had the delectable food. It was in fact, the highlight of his afternoon walk, though perhaps that day would get more eventful so long as he remained walking on the busy streets of Konoha. Surely there would be something, or someone who would arouse interest in the Genin.
