Training | Iryou Ninjutsu | Uomohou no Jutsu

Spoiler:

Masquerade stood at the bank of the lake with his arms crossed across his chest and a look of supreme annoyance on his face. Surprisingly, the boy was not wearing his mask at the moment, leaving his insect-like, emerald green eyes exposed for all to see. Said eyes were narrowed as the boy gazed down into the lake, seeing only his reflection staring back at him. The cause for his irritation was due to an event that had occurred just recently. Having removed his mask to splash some water onto his face, Masquerade had opened his eyes to a crow flying off his with mask. After chasing it around the lake, the crow finally dropped the mask; straight into the bottom of the lake. And thus Masquerade stood staring at the lake’s depths in fury.

Sighing with exasperation, he pulled off his coat and upper clothing until he stood in nothing but his underclothing. Taking a deep breath, the boy dived into the lake, disturbing the still surface of the water as he vanished under the liquid. His head submerged underwater, Masquerade glanced around and below him for his mask. After several minutes of searching, he spotted it lying several yards underneath, too far for him to swim down in one breath. Frowning, the boy resurfaced and formed a series of handseals. He felt a slight tickling on the sides of his neck as a set of gills appeared there, and though he did not feel anything to indicate it, he knew his respiratory organs where undergoing a change to benefit from the gill’s presence.

Once he was ready, Masquerade pulled his head underwater once more and swam downwards towards the glittering object he sought. He clasped his hand around his treasure and swam back up once more, rising slowly out of the water, the gills on his neck vanishing as he did so. Slipping back into his clothes, Masquerade attached his mask back to his face. What a troublesome issue this had been.

Training | Iryou Ninjutsu | Sanketsueki no Jutsu

Spoiler:

Mosquitoes. Little bloodsucking insects that were even more annoying that a nagging older sister, or an alarm clock. They snuck up on their victims silently like ghosts, and before they were noticed they proceeded to pierce one’s skin with their serrated needle of a mouthpart and slurp up the victim’s blood as if they were drinking through a straw. And even if the victim managed to notice the leeching before it was completed, removing the bloodsucker still left one with an irritated mark. Mosquitoes. They were as annoying as flies.

Sitting under a tree, trying to read his book, Masquerade was under attack by the flying insects. Needless to say, the boy was finding it extremely difficult to concentrate on his book, owning to the constant attempts by the females of the swarm to feast on his body’s transport fluid. Not having any suitable flyswatter in hand, the boy was resorting to making use of his book and hands to defend himself from the invasion. Looking like a complete idiot attempting to execute karate moves, Masquerade soon gave up on warding off the bloodsucking insects and decided to go to Plan B.

Sitting back down onto the grass and wincing slightly as another wave of mosquitoes attacked him, Masquerade formed a series of handseals and spoke the words: “ Santon • Sanketsueki no Jutsu!” Lowering his hands, the boy leaned back against the tree and returned to his book as the mosquitoes attached to his skin suddenly began to drop like flies. The next batch suffered the same fate as soon as they pierced their mouthparts through the boy’s skin into his blood vessels. Masquerade looked up from his book and smirked as he saw the fallen swarm around him.

Training | Iryou Ninjutsu | Ninpo • Sarmarubijon

Spoiler:

Masquerade flipped through the book in his hand, his eyes narrowed in concentration behind his mask. The title on the cover read “The Wonders of The Eye”. He read silently, absorbed in the text that explained the functioning of the oculus. Frowning, Masquerade placed the book onto the table and leaned back in his chair, stroking his chin thoughtfully as he considered what he had just read.

While vision was a glorious ability granted to most living organisms, in the case of humans, it was rather lacking. Compared to other animals Man was essentially blind; there were many natural flaws and limitations in a human’s vision. But the one that worried Masquerade the most was a human’s poor night vision trait. In the dark, humans could barely distinguish their surroundings, and for a ninja, such a thing was dangerous. To be incapable of maintaining full awareness of one’s surroundings left one vulnerable to a sneak attack. But there was a way to get past this predicament.

Masquerade glanced down at the volume once more, his arms crossed across his chest. He then looked up and glanced around the store he was in. All around him were people, living, breathing humans, all with heat emanating from them. Practically everything in the world gave off heat of some degree, and if he could find a way to see this heat, then it would not matter what happened to regular vision. Any ninja worth his forehead protector could hide his presence to avoid detection; but hiding one’s heat signature was incredibly difficult. Smiling with satisfaction, Masquerade rose from his seat, picked up the book and left the shop, heading for a secluded spot to practice.

A few hours later, Masquerade was forming a series of handseals. He closed his eyes, and then opened them once more. Starting a little in surprise, the boy glanced around him, seeing the world in bright to dull shades of white, red, yellow, and blue. “Thermal vision: Success,” remarked Masquerade as he ended the technique with a satisfied grin.

Training | Iryou Ninjutsu | Iryou Ninjutsu • Masui Kouka + Kado no Shukketsu + Yuuhatsu Itami no Jutsu + Yuuhatsu Keiren no Jutsu

Spoiler:

It was quiet. Too quiet. It may have been a phrase befitting a fictional tale, but in this situation its usage seemed appropriate. Masquerade glanced down slowly from the branch he sat upon, the abundance of leaves around him providing him with cover as eyed the ground beneath him. It was the middle of night, just after midnight in fact; the star-strewn sky was clear and had a full moon tonight, allowing the dim glow from the celestial body to be cast unhindered onto the area. Said “area” was a large forest with widely-spaced trees and a substantial amount of foliage. Masquerade had been resting in the lower branches of a large tree, not high enough to risk injury by falling, yet not low enough to for any ordinary person to reach him. That said, it was not always ordinary people who came searching for him.

Masquerade’s eyes narrowed as he scanned the ground beneath him. As he had been lying on the branch with his eyes closed, he had heard a sound below him, in his vicinity. As he was in the middle of a wood in the middle of the night, he was bound to hear sounds from the nocturnal inhabitants of this woodland. However, this sound had been different compared to the rest. It was the sound of humans treading carefully yet with unsuccessful silence over the natural litter of a forest floor. Leaves, twigs, rocks, and many others were unintentionally being trod on by a pair of covered human feet. Masquerade’s gaze turned in the direction of the sound. It was approaching slowly, and judging from the number of footsteps he could hear, the source of the sounds were two humans. Pulling himself onto a higher, more secluded branch, Masquerade peered through a gap in the leaves at the line of shrubbery from behind which came the approaching sounds.

As Masquerade watched, two large, burly men appeared from behind the bushes, pushing themselves through noisily. One of the men, the one in front, was a brunette with heavy stubble on his chin, while his partner was a clean-shaven man with an equally bald head. The brunette was wearing a saber of sorts, sheathed in a scabbard on his waist, while his partner sported a large wooden club. The bald man also had a large, brown sack slumped over his shoulder, filled with some kind of bulky item. With a groan of pain, the two men slumped onto the forest floor. The sack was dropped in a slightly unceremonious manner, causing a softer sound than Masquerade would have expected. The two men did not speak to each other, simply pulling out some canteens of water and drinking from them.

As they sat, Masquerade moved to a lower perch to get a better view of the sack. As he did so, he noticed the bag shift slightly, as if its contents were alive. Curious and puzzled, the boy considered what was going on. His confusion was answered by the two men, who began conversing. Listening to their conversation, Masquerade learned that these two were hired thugs working a job for someone, and this job was a kidnapping. Masquerade’s eyes shifted to the brown woolen sack on the ground. A small child of perhaps ten years was inside the bag, currently unconscious and unaware that he was being abducted. Masquerade could only assume the employer of these two men had some sort of vendetta against this child’s guardian. Or perhaps this child was a ransom of some sort? There were actually several reasons as to why someone would want to abduct a child, all of which were quite gruesome. Fortunately, the two men answered Masquerade’s unasked question once more: the child was going to be used as a ransom.

Masquerade closed his eyes and hung his head. He knew life was not all sunshine and glory. Life wasn’t filled with butterflies and bunnies wishing you love and happiness; it was filled with snakes and demons which brought you pain and suffering. He had no reason to do anything about this situation. He did not know the child or the two men or even any of the people mentioned in speech. It was not his job to bring peace to this world. No, that was the work of “official” shinobi. He was a Nukenin, and thus did not have to save everyone in trouble… Masquerade opened his eyes and glanced down at the large sack once more. Still, just because he did not have to save the child, did not mean he wouldn’t. He was not heartless; he did feel pity. It was a cruel act, this abduction.

Smiling menacingly and opening his eyes, Masquerade leaped silently onto a tree so as to get closer to the abductors. Reaching into his utility pouch, he pulled out a pair of kunai and tossed them at the men. The unaware men leapt to their feet with a cry of pain as the kunai hit their mark, each weapon having jabbed itself deeply into their shoulder. Yanking the knives out of their bodies with a gasp of pain, they brandished their weapons and glanced around themselves, searching for the source of the attack. Unbeknownst to them, Masquerade rose silently from the ground behind them like a specter. Before the men knew what had happened, Masquerade had jabbed each of them in the thigh with his hands. The men yelped in pain and dropped to the ground, clutching their involuntarily bending leg. They looked up just in time to see Masquerade appear before them. A flash of metal and a spurt of blood resulted in the men receiving a painful cut across their chests. The boy’s hands then flew as they formed a series of handseals, after which he exhaled a light green gas at the men. The two adults howled in pain as the gas came in contact with the wound on their shoulder. As they continued to scream with pain, the brown-haired man instinctively swung his saber at Masquerade, who managed to dodge the fatal attack just in item, though he was badly grazed on the leg. Ignoring the jolt of pain rising up his leg, Masquerade once again formed a series of handseals and jabbed each of the men with his glowing hands, this time on their wounds. The slits widened and the red liquid seeping out doubled as the men continued to scream with pain.

Smirking, Masquerade limped back from the men and formed yet another set of handseals, which caused the wound on his leg to glow with a faint green aura. The pain he felt vanished immediately, and Masquerade turned back to the men in pain and knocked them out. He then moved to the sack containing the kidnapped child, and peered down with an emotionless face at the angelic face inside. The four-year old boy was still sound asleep. That was fortunate. Sighing, Masquerade placed the child in his arm and headed away from the unconscious men, aiming to return the poor child to his family.
