Hand seals - any rules on the numbers per rank of something? Vide
PostSubject: Hand seals - any rules on the numbers per rank of something? Hand seals - any rules on the numbers per rank of something? EmptySat 06 Aug 2011, 1:21 am

Having been insane enough to opt for my first character to have a new bloodline, I am now stuck having to create the majority of his jutsu from scratch. In the process of doing and looking at the existing ones for inspiration I noticed something - none of them list how many and exactly which hand seals are required! Yet I believe there was a reference stating that genjutsu users could only list the seals used to avoid meta-gaming (sensible idea in my book). My question is this: is there a rule (hard and fast or quick and dirty) about how many seals and which ones particular jutsu require? Also does the site have (or could anyone point me to) a list of those seals, their names, and pertient details (ex. the seals for Katon jutsu seem to always end on a particular seal).

Hmm that knocked another question out of my head. I also remember a number of Naurto characters not needing to use hand seals or speak the name for certain techniques (mostly kawarimi). Is there some rule to determine when (or even if) that such feats would be possible for characters? Maybe something like a special characteristic or a "no speaking for jutsu 2 ranks below and no seals for 3 ranks"?

From my understanding, there are no rules as to how many handseals one can perform in a post or how many handseals a technique requires. Obviously if we know the handseals for the canon techniques, then you're more then free to post the exact handseals performed. But in most cases people simply put 'performed the needed handseals' and it seems to keep everyone happy, also we don't offer a list of handseals or partial details on the site. We do offer some special characteristics that allow you to perform techniques faster or even with one hand if you wanted to, so that means you'll be able to release a technique faster then someone who didn't have the special char. The special characteristic you suggested does not exist, yet. But it seems like an interesting idea...

Quote :
One-Handed Seals
Name: One-Handed Seals
Rank: C
Type: Physical
Physical Requirements: N/A
Training Requirements: A 600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
Description: the ninja discovers a unique talent which allows them to mix chakra by performing seals with only one hand. With an ability such as this the ninja can fight while also performing jutsu, delivering surprise attacks to their enemies. Since those who can perform one-handed seals are naturally good at what their talents, they are even capable of performing hand seals behind themselves, leaving the enemy oblivious to the ninja's next attack.

Hand Movement
Name: Blurred Hand Movement
Rank: A
Type: Physical
Physical Requirements: Requires no specific specialization.
Training Requirements: A 1600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic.
Description: A skillful and convenient characteristic that is learned to those who have practiced in the art of hand speed movement in nearly all forms. There are many uses for this characteristic as it can enhance nearly all forms of specializations. It is essentially the practice of moving and manipulating your hands with expert efficiency to the point where they become a blur. With this special characteristic a ninja can perform any number of hand seals within seconds or instantly depending on the amount of seals necessary. This allows them to execute techniques faster than the opponent can perceive providing unsuspecting attacks. This technique also allows the user to draw seals and perform attacks with their weapons quicker. Lastly it allows puppeteers to maneuver and manipulate their puppets in extremely high speeds where their hands become a blur.

I noticed those - my character has the one-handed version for his starting special characteristic. What can I say - Haku is one of my favorite characters and I think he didn't get near enough screen time. Thanks for answering my question - now I can stop sweating about the listed number of hand seals in my various to-be-submitted jutsu.

Though now I am sensing a strong "please come up with some special characteristic submissions along those lines" mental compulsion. I will start as soon as my brain reboots. /bow
