Mission Title: Infestation Removal
Mission Type: Generic
Mission Location: Fire Country
Shinobi Requirement: Genin+
Mission Rank: D
Mission Objective: Due to a recent accident on the part of local fishermen, a species of fish that is not native to the area has been released in the village's waterways. This needs to be addressed as the fish is known to devour the native species which are vital to the village as a source of food. A crate of these fish were released, they need to be tracked down and removed, preferably alive.
Mission Time Limit: 2 weeks
Min Post Count: 2

A small time mission to start the week. Not that exciting but vital to Konoha's upkeep, as the piece of paper folded and crumpled from the force of the gale ahead, causing a great deal of frustration to the young Mio, attempting in vain to hold the paper still and keep her out of her eyes at the same time. Eventually, she gave up, folding it and shoving it in her bag, hooking her arms through the straps.

So, fish. Where would these fish be, then? Most likely the village outside Konoha that supplied most of the water to the village but that could take a while to fully search, as it ended up in the mountains to the north, though she didn't think the infestation had expanded that far. The river started at the Eastern wall of Konoha and snaked it's way northward according to the map she had been given by her father. It would be best to simply run the length of the river until the infestation died out, using her Juuken to disable the non-native fish and then let it float down to Konoha, where the fisherman who had contracted her was ready to catch them and place them back in the crate the came from. Also, to make sure no one caught the fish as they floated down the river, she had fitted ten of her kunai with red flags, which she would use to mark areas where the people of the local towns usually fish, telling them not to fish there today.

From the gate, she ran around the edge of the walls, towards the eastern dock, there she would start her expedition. It took her several minutes but she eventually got there, to find the guard and the fisherman talking casually as they waited. She stopped running and signalled the two of them by waving her arm in the air. Both of them waved back, a casual smile on their faces.

"So, you're the Genin that was assigned to this task then?"
"Y-yes sir!"
"Well, I assume you have a plan then?"
"Yes, if Kojima-san would stay here and catch the fish that float down the river, I will run up the edge of the river and disable the fish using Juuken techniques, also, to prevent the catching of the fish by locals, I will secure the popular fishing spots by placing a red flag there, so they know they are not to fish in that area."
"Alright, you seem to have this under control, Mr Kojima if you could comply with her plan you two may begin."
"Ah, of course, young Genin."

Mio and the fisherman Kojima exchanged luck wishes and took to their assigned positions, Mio beginning her run and Kojima happily staying behind with the guard.

"Byakugan!"

Veins pulsing around her eyes and her lavender eyes becoming much more intense, her clan's legacy, the all-seeing Byakugan given a practical use rather than simple combat. There were fish in the water with irregular chakra systems, the chakra systems of well-built predators, made to bite and kill fish with ruthless efficiency. They were easy to spot, easy to incapacitate and yet highly dangerous all the same.

There. One 50m up-stream, long with others with chakra systems that were more docile. She could see one of the docile chakra sources flare in panic for a mere second before it disappeared completely from her site. Another fish falls prey to these predators. And several seconds later, she was standing right next to it. It sensed her and attempted to swim away, to which she responded with a swift downward strike to the main tenketsu point of the fish, completely disabling it's movement. She watched as it floated down the river, back towards Konoha.

Continuing up the river, there were several more ahead, feeding on the local sea-life. Two more 37m ahead of the first and a whole group of them 57m ahead of those. The two never stood a chance, Mio cutting them off before they even knew what hit them, however the large group were alerted to her presence as soon as she got close, swimming as fast as they could away, Mio following in close pursuit.

"Chakura Hari no Jutsu!"

Forming a needle of chakra from her fingertip, she shot it forth, striking the water directly in front of the pack, startling them and pausing their movement for a second, which was more than enough for Mio to catch up and pick off several of them before the others continued forward. Using the same tactic, she managed to the clean up the rest of the group rather quickly, stabbing a kunai flag into a nearby tree trunk to warn the locals.

This was going to take a while...

It took her another hour but eventually, Mio was able to stop the infestation, checking off all thirty four non-native fish. Though now, there was another problem. Several of them had released their spawn further back, Mio missing them by merely by overlooking them while looking for the larger fish. She would have to get them on the way back to the village, along with re-collecting her kunai flags and letting the local townspeople that all was well to fish again.

She rested for a moment to regain some chakra, sitting against the large trunk of a nearby tree, her head back against the hard bark and lavender eyes closed shut. A dream passed before her vision, of a man she recognised as her Uncle, smiling viciously at three figures in the dark, two lying on their backs and one kneeling next to them, holding the hand of the one on the right so tightly and burying her face in his chest. Several glistening tears fell from the young woman's face onto the dead man's clothes, a sad portrait of death and mourning. Yet something seemed so familiar about all of them... something as if she knew all of them...

Snapping back to reality with tears on her cheeks, she wiped her eyes and stood. Why was she crying? Why had the dream affected her so much that she would shed tears at the man's passing? Her hands were shaking and her legs would not move, no matter how much she tried. She just stood... and cried... and she didn't know why...

It was several minutes before she came to her senses, quickly rubbing her eyes to remove the tears yet the shock still caused her to be unable to move very fast, walking in individual steps as if she was wounded. Gripping her arm hard she started to regain feeling in her legs, moving slowly faster and faster until she was back to running again. She had almost forgot about the mission as she passed the first spawn, going back several seconds later as she realized she had seen it. Using a kunai she cut through the middle of the eggs, killing the spawn before they were able to hatch.

About 50m ahead was the next one, as Mio jumped up and started sprinting to the next one, still puzzled about the dream she had experienced. It had felt so real, as if she was actually there. And why was her Uncle Yuutei in her dream? He had only met the man once, several years ago when her father took her to one of the clan meetings, a conversation between the two that father was evidently uncomfortable for some reason or another. She remembered her father's expression as being one of absolute rage, as if he intensely hated this man yet he was trying desperately to hide it, most likely for her sake. After a moment, she realized she had forgotten to take back her kunai flags, turning around and running back to the kunai stuck in the tree and pulling it forth with a loud 'chunk', before continuing her travel back to Konoha.

Reaching the next spawn, she struck the eggs with the kunai in the same manner, cutting several hundred lives short, simply for the good of the village's food. She felt kind of bad now ending the lives of so many little fish... yet... it was important, so she would do it, for the sake of the village. Only 348m until Konoha's walls, and three more spawning pools as well as the five kunai flags to collect. Removing the kunai from the bark with a bit of struggle, Mio continued on her way yet again, as the river bent westward towards Konoha.

Several minutes later, Mio arrived back at Konoha, exhausted from her travels, greeted by the fisherman with the box and the guard from earlier. The two greeted her as she stepped over to the flood gates with the guard booth.

"I see you've completed the task, Mio."
"U-um yes..."
"Here is your payment young lass, as well as my thanks for completing this with such haste. Did you remove any spawns also?"
"Y-yes, there were four spawning pools, I got rid of all of them."
"Good work!"

Having completed this mission, Mio retreated into the village to rest herself and prepare for her next assignment.
