The hours immediately after midnight were one times when Konohagakure no Sato was at its most quiet. With the vast majority of the inhabitants asleep, working the graveyard shift, or blowing off steam it was entirely possible for an individual to walk across the entire length of the village and never see another soul. That solitude suited the cloaked figure heading towards the village gates just fine. The heavy fog that shrouded the village didn't hurt either - as far as the solitary figure was concerned the fewer people that saw him about right now the better. He had already left notes where the ones he cared about would find them and the rest would worry or not depending on what they read into his absence. The last obstacle to the figures exiting the village for an unknown amount of time was the gates that were visible even in the gloom and the chuunin who guarded them around the clock. Even those impressive gates were a flawed means to keep someone inside the village if they had the right tools - tools that rested in the pouch at the figures back covered by the cloak.

What that tool was would become apparent as the figure stepped up to the gates and one of the guards moved to block his path. The other guard however never even left his chair or took his nose out of the book it was buried in when he spoke. "Late-night mission Toshiro?" Pulling the hood of his traveling cloak back to expose damp white hair, Hinamori Toshiro returned his distance cousin's laconic greeting with a smirk. At the same time he ignored the other chuunin's snort and muttered "lazy bastard can't be professional just once" as he handed over the mission scroll that was his passport out of the village and back in again. "Naturally. Places to go and people to kill but it does pay the bills."

It was just a matter of minutes for the two chuunin to confirm that Toshiro had the proper papers and other requirements to confirm that he was authorized to leave the village alone. Formalities done the three chuunin exchanged quick "good luck" and went back to their tasks - two fighting boredom while guarding the gates and one to traveling to Rice Country to put down a group of bandits. Giving the gates of his home one last look before he was swallowed up by the forest that gave it its name, Toshiro hoped that he would be back sooner rather than later.
