Here's a sneak peek at what I've been devoting a lot of my spare time to lately, an all new original electro/synthpop album called Lone Rider. This particular song is called Road Warrior and is the first completed track of the album(several others are in development). I plan to make it consist of at least a full 12 tracks; all a minute long or more. The whole album is sort of based around film scores of the 80s, lots of synth and drum machines. So here's my first song ever guys. I hope everyone enjoys it and if you have any criticisms or suggestions please let me know in this topic.
Edit: I just realized how completely different/worse the song sounds when listening to it with speakers, since I mixed it using a headset.. I'm going to try to fix it. D:

Not bad; the intro (0:00-0:40) was an exciting thrill ride but from then on, it did a slight U-turn and went a tad downhill. Course, I know very little about this type of music.

Thanks Miggy you're actually not the first person who said they didn't like the synth at the end, so I'm definitely going to change it. I wanted to give it sort of a futuristic feel but it didn't work out so well.

I dont really enjoy this kind of music but I thought for what you were trying to do with it it was really good, I liked it. I Liked what you had going from like 0:00 - 0:25 It was pretty cool, keep it up. I would say longer songs, short stuff like that is fun to write and its a good way to see what your style is like but I feel if you give yourself a longer song you can be able to pull off more sounds and styles, know what I mean?

Yeah I get what you mean, it isn't always a good idea trying to shift different styles in the same song though, and the problem with electro music being long is it starts to get a little tedious when you hear the same tune playing over and over again.

Yeah, I can dig that. I think it would be a challenge worth taking on for any musician though to try and blend different rhythms and fading them in and out

A demo of my next song "Black Rain", I realize that again there's quite a shift in ambiance toward the middle of the song, this was done on purpose and has to do with the title, which I would gladly explain to those who're interested. I'm still having trouble with the mixing hence this being a demo, but I think it's pretty epic so far. :3

These are awesome <3 an I like them both, but I enjoyed the second one much more than the first. I think my problem with the first track was that it was this exciting build up to a climax that never really came, the track got a little boring afte a while when it didn't change. The second one however feels like a more complete story to me. Keep up the good work! You really do have the lions share of talent John xD Leave some for the rest of us damnit!

Thank you very much Jelly I'm glad you liked Black Rain, it's definitely my best one so far in my opinion, both in how it sounds and the story behind it. It's named after the aftermath of the atomic bomb going off on Hiroshima/Nagasaki. The beginning, horror-type sound symbolizes the bomb going off and the softer violin towards the middle/end is supposed to symbolize the sorrow that came after. Radiation and dust mixed to create a radioactive black rain, which then affected people well beyond the blast radius. We (America) basically made it rain poison.

Thanks Britt! yeah that would be great if you'd like to give a cover a try. For the last two I made I was trying to go with 80s neo noir type stuff so try to stick with that theme if you could. <3

Hm. Well the first one came and went past me so fast I hardly recognized it was there. It would be good background music for something going on in the foreground to add ambiance leading to a climatic scene. I mean they are both good but from here on out it'll sound like I think your work is a piece of shit. Which I don't mean for it to. You did good but there is always room to improve (I totally shouldn't be talking when I say this). I think you could learn a bit about the rise and fall of the music from OSTs personally. I like the whole instrumental feel you're going with this so far though.
I'd suggest listening to a few of these.

To me those all paint a sad story especially the last one. The first one is not so much but the intro does. I'd suggest just really trying to ease into the theme you have. I've re-listened to your demo and I understand it is a demo but it feels like you try to force it upon as fast as you can. Which you may or may not be doing. Mostly around the :27 mark I feel like something bad is gonna happen but then the other noises make me mostly just get distracted from what I am supposed to hear. It gets better after that but mostly the constant "humming" from the instrument (can't tell you what it is for the life of me) kinda distracts me and makes me try to block it out to hear the others.

Yes, please leave some talent for us... Anyways, these are wonderful, John. I didn't realize you liked making music on top of graphics. And just like your graphics, your music is absolutely beautiful. <3

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. ^_^
@Jerry - I appreciate that you took the time to re-listen and analyze it. You've brought up some interesting points especially that abrasive humming sound which definitely needs to be lowered so that the violin is more easily heard. I'm going to keep all your suggestions in mind.
@Adam - Yeah lol, it does sound very TRON-esque doesn't it? Or at least the first one does. TRON was scored by Daft Punk which is one of my influences so that definitely makes sense.
@Megz - It's because I just started making it very very recently. xD I play a little piano/keyboard, but could never afford a top of the line synthesizer or drum machine. After some research of various electro bands I was surprised to learn that many of them don't actually physically play the instruments, it's all done electronically via software and plugins.

Yupp. It's really awesome though! I play a bit of keyboard as well, but not anything to brag about. If anything, I have a 'good' singing voice. On and by they way, I like Daft Punk too. Recently heard one of their songs, Face to Face, and liked how it sounded. I may have to look into more of their songs when I get the chance. Anyways, keep up the good work! <3

Archived for now. Until then consider "Lone Rider" an EP
