Name: Katon Master Rank: A Type: Chakra Based Physical Requirements: Must have Katon Prodigy Training Requirements: A 1600 word training post is required to gain this special characteristic. Description: The title given to those elite ninja who've become legendary for their power and skill over the fire element. Being classified as a prodigy during their early years, the ninja has now mastered the fire element and has attained great power from their continuous training. The ninja's fire techniques are now 40% more destructive, which is measured via the increase in heat and in size. The user can now withstand tremendous levels of heat with their accustomed fiery chakra, making them immune to Katon attacks weaker then themselves rank wise. In addition, their fire techniques gain greater explosive impact. Through such mastery they also gain the ability to access a sub-element from the fire element known as 'Smoke Release'. This allows them to create specialized jutsu under this sub-element.
The more powerful a shinobi you became, the more secluded you had to be when training yourself for fear of hurting anyone. And this was what brought Kimiko here to the extremely deserted corner of the Fire Country that she and her father had used for training six years ago. The surroundings were extremely familiar to her despite having not been here for over half a decade. The same natural cave protruded from a ragged cliff wall that provided shelter, and from over the top of the cliff streams of fresh, clean water tumbled down in a steady waterfall into a lake. Miles of grassy field surrounded the area, and forest was way off in the distance. At least there was no fear of burning a forest to smithereens with the training that Kimiko would be undertaking today. Ever since graduating to become a Genin, she had known that she was extremely proficient in her use of Katon Ninjutsu. She had picked it up easier than most children learning their elements, and every jutsu she used was even hotter than most Katon jutsu that she had experienced. As this was a main source of her power, she decided to take her use of Katon to the next level; mastering it. That was of course much easier said than done. Mastering an element took a lot of hard work and dedication, as well as many years using said element both in battle and in practise. Secluding herself from all distractions was only step one of her training process to try and speed it up as much as possible; Konoha wouldn’t wait forever for her to improve her skill. As a new Jounin, she had extra duties to uphold and must do as her village wished in order for her to prove herself to be worthy of her rank. That meant not taking weeks and weeks in seclusion in order to train; a real shinobi must work and train at the same time, and hope that both would tie together nicely. She was garbed in a new favoured outfit of hers, as it was both practical and flattering. She wore a khaki cropped shirt that showed her washboard flat stomach and short brown shorts. On her feet she adorned a pair of polished black lace-up military style boots, and to fit in with the whole military theme she had also donned a loose-fitting brown jacket which had been discarded along with all her other equipment that she felt she wouldn’t need.
“Alright…” She murmured, taking a deep breath in and focusing her gaze across the clearing on the horizon. She wasn’t quite sure how this training would work, and what she would do, but she guessed that by using and re-using her Katon jutsu while pushing her limits each time she would eventually push past that invisible line into the higher power level. At least she hoped so, anyway, otherwise she’d be without ideas of how to grow more powerful. She ran through a sequence of hand seals that were second nature to her now, and she swept an arm across her body to expel a great curtain of flames. “Hibashiri!” She called out, sweeping her other arm out as well from which a jet of fire erupted. She felt the chakra that she was using and closed her eyes, furrowing her brow until she almost looked as though she was in pain. She concentrated on that chakra, the chakra that she knew was currently of a Katon nature in order to perform this technique. She imagined expanding the chakra outwards, as if the shifting, glowing energy was at her chest and she was trying to extend it out towards her very fingertips. All the while, the intensity of the fire she was expelling continued to grow, the flames which had originally been red heating up to a mixture of yellow and orange, two definite colours whereas before they had amalgamated into one. The growing temperature in the flames became obvious as even though the jets of flames were quite a distance from the ground, the grass began to set alight. Sweat droplets started to trickle down Kimiko’s upper arms, passing over her bandaged elbows and dripping to the blazing floor. Meanwhile, back inside her mind Kimiko was indeed expanding the Katon chakra that she was moulding to make her technique, and it was giving her an intense mental and physical strain, although it was hard to explain why. All she was doing was pushing an invisible boundary, but outwardly her body began to shake, and her breathing started to rip from her throat. The jet of flames from her right arm grew to such a length that it struck the cliff, and the jet of flames on her left arm struck the forest which was a fair distance away. Finally, when she could take no more, her simmering chocolate eyes flashed open with an almost visible flare, and she saw her handiwork for herself. She gasped upon witnessing the distance and intensity that her Katon jutsu had reached through her current work, and dispelled the jutsu while exhaling deeply in relief. Her whole body was tingling, almost as though it was alight like the fire she had produced, and she couldn’t help the wide grin that spread across her lips like wildfire.
Whereas most would have probably stopped there in order to end on a high note in their training, Kimiko pushed on. “Kayuu Endan!” She cried out, making the correct hand seals and taking a deep breath in, expelling a large ball of fire that moulded into a dragon’s head. The more chakra she focused into the jutsu, the more defined its dragon-like features were defined. It opened its mouth wide in a fiery roar, and she started to make it snake out in front of her all the while mentally pushing the boundaries of her Katon chakra. The heat made the grass on the ground shrivel even though the distance between the jutsu and the ground was quite large, and it didn’t stop there. The sheer intensity and heat that continued to build in the dragon set the grass alight, making a blazing trail in the jutsu’s wake. Kimiko gasped and opened her eyes, at which point her concentration broke and she dispelled the jutsu. She panted slightly and wiped her brow with the back of her hand, grinning all the more as she started to get the hang of this odd sensation that was pushing her body’s boundaries. She clenched her fists and looked down at her arms. On a normal person, the intensity and heat of the fire she had produced would have scorched her arms to nothingness, but there they were, and barely even burnt. Even though there were numerous little burn wounds on her arms, they didn’t even hurt whereas one normally would cause a great deal of pain to somebody else. She had known for a long time that she was sensitive to heat, to the point where on freezing days she would wear no more than a shirt and a skirt and she would be perfectly warm and toasty. People she hugged and touched always commented on how warm she always was, and maybe it wasn’t a coincidence with her journey to mastering the Katon element. She hoped that this was a good sign, and with a few unspoken words of encouragement, readied herself for more training. She continued like that for the rest of the day until the moon had been out for hours, and she knew it was approaching midnight.
With an almighty sigh, and flopped backwards to the grassy ground where she had been stood previously, avoiding the burnt patches. She sprawled her arms out to her sides and gazed up at the stars, pondering whether she had really done it or not, ignoring (or rather choosing not to notice) the state of her clothing as it had been burnt to ruins. She could stand the heat, but her clothing apparently could not. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to invest in some flame proof clothes if this training and way of battle would continue, and she was sure it would do. As she inhaled and exhaled deeply, she blew out what appeared to be a few small smoke rings. She was startled and shot up, watching as the rings of smoke dissipated into nothing. Had she imagined that? Or had she really just blew rings of smoke from her mouth? “Wow…” She muttered, frowning as she wondered what she had done to do such a thing. She exhaled again, but nothing came from her lips this time. ‘Ah, I must have been imagining things.’ She concluded and lay back down on the cool grass again with heavy sigh, and as she did so she saw the same kind of smoke rise from her lips in a few smoky wisps. Alas, she had not been imagining things, and her eyes were not deceiving her! She was able to produce smoke?! Was it like an excess of her heavily fire based training session today? But even in the past she had used full days to fine-tune her Katon Ninjutsu, and she had never been able to breathe smoke before. Maybe it was a new trick as she was learning to master her Katon element… focusing on what she did before to make smoke come forth from her lips, she inhaled and exhaled again, mixing the slightest bit of chakra with her breath. And there it was. Wisps of smoke right before her eyes. “Sugoi…” And thus her journey to becoming a Katon Master had, in her eyes, just begun…
