So awhile back, I remade an avatar to fit the same size of the rank images, which went over perfectly at the time. Now, for whatever reason, it shows my avatar resized in my posts, while my profile shows the actual size. I'm just wondering why this is, considering the original size doesn't exceed the maximum size allowed by the forum. While this isn't an immediate issue, it is annoying the hell out of me, hence why I even brought it up. ._.

We were fiddling with some CSS coding in order to ensure members would stop breaching the avatar size limit and unfortunately we've been unable to come up with a proper solution to the problem. We apologise if any inconvenience has been caused by this. The width of the rank images is 124 in case you needed it.

Will it be changing back, anytime soon? I agree with Phantom Heart that it isn't a large issue, but it makes one's avatar look rather odd, especially if it was adhering to the 124px width. Currently, the style of images are 124px width and x length which I don't find intimidating considering that it really doesn't stretch the page.

Would it be suitable to set the limits to 124px x 500px, or something along those lines? Squares are rather restricting.

We aren't too fond of long avatars and the rules state it should be 150x150 maximum so no 500 in length is too long.

Since I'm part of the Graphics Team, I'll help explain the issue.

Long avatars are a no. Not only do they stretch the site tremendously, especially for anyone running a screen size smaller than 1366x768. This also causes annoying lag and our skin is specifically coded so that it loads almost instantaneously, because we don't have anything that could cause lag (heavy codes, web fonts, etc.)

As Adam says, the rules do state that 150x150 should be the main size of the avatars. We wanted to not only stop people from being able to upload an avatar bigger than this via using a url, but force all avatars to resize when a person posts + in their login widget.

If you take a peek at our page source, you'll see the CSS we have added. (:

However, forumotion isn't very CSS3-friendly and as such, it's kinda hard to do what we envisioned. Until we really do find a solution, we'll probably take the CSS out. As Darius said, we apologize for the inconvience that was caused with all of this mess.

And personally, I don't find squares "restricting" at all. A good designer with good aesthetics will be able to produce quality work, regardless of the size of the canvas, so to speak. ^^

I have no problem editing accordingly, I merely felt it was important to state my opinion. Considering you were also using a longer avatar, I felt you'd understand my reasoning a little more, but nevertheless.

But that's what I was saying... I also dislike huge avatars. But my avatar didn't exceed 150px in height or width...

Thanks, but don't apologize. You were just trying to fix a problem, you didn't know it was gonna cause another one. <3
