I think the new theme makes the site look like it's one emo-fit away from resorting to cutting. Also, the new Kumo color is shit. No, literally. It looks the exact color I expect the toilet paper to be after wiping.

You do realize that the color has already been talked about and is being worked on. You were told this in the cbox, so why you had to post about that is unbeknownst to me.

When you criticize something, how about you give some information that will help fix these things. Don't just come state how badly you hate it and how it makes you want to cut yourself.. Because frankly that is just rather rude. (Several people have done it.) They worked hard on this theme, not only to make the site look better and new, but for us members as well.

So offer something constructive.

I'm not sure if it's just me, or if the little icons that show the newest post always make it seem as though there's a new post. For some reason I tend to look on that side of the forum frequently (while looking through new posts) and that just struck me as odd. I mean how the little paper icons are always that red-orange color.

It could just be me, though.

I noticed that too Razz Maybeh it's a ploy to get more post views. If so, read all of my topics!!! ^^ I can get sponsored, and mention Axe in all of my posts or something.

Ditto! I also noticed one more thing. The sidebar being on the right is totally throwing me off. Lol. It'll take some getting used to. xD

Constructive criticism is for people who WANT to be helpful Beta Testing the New Theme - Page 2 287405 Also, this?

If you don't want to be helpful, your opinion about it isn't going to matter to us. I appreciate everyone who was civil when listing what they don't like about it. Setsu and I put many many many hours into making this and so naturally, we're a tad defensive about it. But to everyone who did remain civil, we'll take everything you said under advisement and attempt to make the changes so that everyone's happy. ^^

PostSubject: Re: Beta Testing the New Theme Beta Testing the New Theme - Page 2 EmptySun 03 Feb 2013, 2:20 am

Alright, so I figured I'd throw my forty cents in 'cause I'm that fuckin' rich.

Overall, I do appreciate the new theme. It looks nice and I like the fact that you were able to find a balance with the blues and reds to the point that a singular color was not overwhelming. The gradient style on the borders is nice and I enjoy the 'hover for staff' and all that jazz. I do have a few issues though. For the sake of showing my support for a few that have already been mentioned, I'll briefly agree with them.

  1. The width of the forum: As everyone mentioned, it does clutter the place up.
  2. The 'hover over the spotlight: Half the time it doesn't work for me.
  3. The bright red navigation bar: I agree; go with a deeper red/mahogany for it.
  4. The Important Threads Widget: The writing is incredibly small and without my contacts, I can't read it.
  5. Profile Navigation: Previously, there was the profile navigation box/widget on the side bar where you could view your avatar/display picture, posts, PMs, and profile. If we could bring that back it'd be much appreciated.
  6. The New 'New Post', 'No Post', etc. in sub-forums: Currently, they're these suitcases that really are random and unappealing with the theme. May I suggest merely going back to the previous symbols for the sub-forums?
  7. Font for Profile when one posts: With this I'm referring to the post count, join date, age, location, village, etc. Having the titles capped with such a thin font really is unappealing and it seems to just take up space. I'm going to suggest that you use a rounded, stronger font for that and that you don't have the variable information like your actual location capped as it looks odd and unappealing. (I fuckin' love that word.)
  8. The Quote, Edit, Delete, IP Buttons on posts: They really don't fit with the style that you both were trying to recreate, so I suggest that you try to recreate your "New Topic", "New Post buttons" or attempt to match them, and while were on those, they need to be thinner, and you need to center the text because right now, they're slightly too far near the top of the image.
  9. The New Post, No Post Paper sign on the right hand side: Puppy mentioned it earlier, I'm just going to show my support for it.
  10. Images for Locations: If you're going to lengthen the forum [which I strongly support], you're going to have to lengthen the images as well because right now they're even a little too bulky in height. As an accent, I suggest you thin them down slightly just so they're not so 'in your face' I guess the term would be, or lengthen them as I stated before. [I enjoy the scrolling aspect over for descriptions.] The final image of Naruto and company is also overlayed oddly. I might suggest so that it blends and compliments the other images that you make a softer addition or colorization of it.
  11. The Rank Colours: So, I know people have made it rather known that they dislike these, and if anyone has heard my comments in the chat box, you'll know where I stand. In terms of suggestions for colors, I agree with Phantom Heart that they should be something that stands out more. As of right now, non-character members have the brightest color which I find slightly odd. I know that I hated my gray as a non-color and if I was stuck with red and hittin' up the chat box, for some reason I wouldn't really mind as much. Why? Dunno. Just now it is. I also find that in the C-box, it's too close to Administration, considering when you post there, non-character members get bolded. I suggest pushing that back to gray, and adopting the red for Administrators/Senate only. For Kumo, which is the color that is burning my retinas, I won't suggest maybe going back to a Kumogakure.
  12. Staff Image: I don't mean to be overly critical here, but I believe some of those need to be altered to appeal to the Staff Member they belong to. Some of them do not match the actual member and I feel like their opinions should be taken into consideration.

Overall, that is my list. I don't want to be nitpicky over everything, but there are just a few things that I think you can better the site with. The theme is creative and as I stated before this list, I like it. I'm going to support your decision for a change as I find they're usually good for the soul. But I do hope you'll take this list into consideration and for god's sake, don't get sensitive. Y'all are talented, be proud of what you made, but accept that for every masterpiece there are going to be two things:

Things that People won't like.
And People that just don't Like.

Have a good day.

Well if you want to be constructive, at this point critcism should only pertain to the functionality of the codes and images i.e if something is broken. Saying things like take out the banners change the fonts or make the forum wider doesn't help, others do like those things and if we change them, now they're unhappy. Unanimous issues like making the navigation scroll bigger and changing the group colors etc shall be taken care of.

Since it seems the same things keep being repeated over and over, I'm gonna just lock this for now. Like I said everything brought up is being taken under advisement.
