| . . .
The whole time she was waiting for a response, she was scanning her enviroment carefully, without moving her head, just her eyes. She honestly felt sick to her stomach, for having yelled so loudly even before. Lilium wondered if she had woken anyone, and this made her feel nervous. Not only because any attention might be directed to her, but she hated being a burden to others. More and more, she thought about it, and only reminded herself how late it was, and how worried her mother would be if she didn't return soon. She had put off the time for far too long now, but she had followed Akimaru for a reason, she just didn't know what yet.
Her breath began to appear visable in front of her very eyes, as the temperature was beginning to drop. It wasn't freezing, just a little chilly. Lilium didn't like extreme temperatures, especially hot weather. So the sudden coolness about them made her feel a little better, and slowly calmed her nerves. All the while she was thinking, she managed to pay some attention to Akimaru as well. Being as tired as she was from the long day, and the running, she nearly missed what he was saying. But when she realized he was apologizing, and trying to convince her it wasn't her fault, her attention was dead on. Out of all the people she had met in the village, she couldn't think of one that would take responsibility over something so petty. She wondered if he had noticed her slightly nervousness, or if he just didn't want her to feel bad. Normally she would protest such words that escaped his mouth, but she couldn't find her voice to speak up.
When if she would like to step inside his house, she stared blankly at him a moment. A perfect stranger she had met only today, and he was offering her shelter from the cold. This day had been odd, indeed. So much had happened, all in one encounter with this boy, Akimaru. And in such little time, he had managed to change her world a little. He was able to convince her that not all people were completely selfish, that the simplest of actions could change another's outlook on life, and so much more. When she stopped thinking to realize she had stood like a statue while he waited for her answer, she began to chew her lip again. "Mm... Thank you..." she said slowly, "But... No, thank you." She let out a long sigh, then smiled again. "I've stayed out far past my curfew, I'd hate to worry my mother anymore than I probably already have." Lilium just smiled at him for awhile, then turned around gracefully. She began to walk, then turned around. "Oh, yeah." she beamed at him, "I didn't get the chance to tell you, when you ran off earlier... Goodnight." Her eyes seemingly closed with glee, as she spun around again, and began in the direction of her house this time...

| Whilst Akimaru was considering how cool he had seemed with his last question, he felt another brick be layed be layed to the foundation of his confidence. This was a positive thing, and Akimaru smiled a little. He couldn't help it. He hoped this might convince Lilium to stay for longer as well, but that wasn't his reason for smiling. He was smiling at the fact he was becoming more confident. He liked that.
Despite the fact he had built up his confidence a fraction more, it still seemed like an eternity waiting for Lilium's response. He still shook, althought admittedly that could have just been the temperature. For the first time in their day together, Lilium seemed to be showing signs of being nervous too. Upon the initial shock, Akimaru's eyes widened. He stook a mental step back, then began to analyse her. He wondered why she was nervous, had he upset her? The smile on Akimaru's face drooped a little.
She was stood like a statue, not moving at all. Then, she began to chew her lip. Akimaru let out a breath a little harsher than normal, and tried to hide it as a cough, which failed miserably. The only thing he gained out of it was an aching throat from the cold air attacking it violently upon opening his mouth wide. "Mm... Thank you..." Akimaru's heart skipped a beat. As he was about to turn on his heel and open the door for her, she continued.
"But... No, thank you." Akimaru's heart plunged into his stomach. He quit his rotation, and turned back to face Lilium. His blood had turned to ice with nothing to do with the given temperature. His pupils dilated, and his eyes widened. It was as if everything had just isolated him for that moment in time. Nothing seemed to move. He didn't seem to breath. His heart didn't seem to beat. His chest ached.
She let out a long sigh, then smiled again. Akimaru's heart flopped a little, and his stomach made a pathetic lurch. Things seemed to kick back into motion, but very slowly. Everything seemed to be out of proportion still and moving slowly. Akimaru blinked oddly. "I've stayed out far past my curfew, I'd hate to worry my mother anymore than I probably already have." Lilium just smiled at him for awhile. This helped Akimaru to think, surprisingly. "At least she's leaving for a reason other than my behaviour." He thought positively, but he knew it was no use. He was going to have a right tantrum when he got inside.
Lilium turned around gracefully. She began to walk away and Akimaru's head sunk below the height of his neck. His eyes stung and his cheeks were hot, even outside. He listened to the steady beat of her footsteps getting further away with each one, clipping against the ground with a noise beautiful even for shoes. Akimaru stood still for a few moments, shivering in the cold and rejection. He had begun to sweat. Thinking how pathetic he was, Akimaru turned as well.
For the second time that evening, he was stopped halfway through walking. "Oh, yeah." Lilium said, as if remembering something. "I didn't get the chance to tell you, when you ran off earlier... Goodnight." Akimaru's world kicked back into motion again. His tantrum had been averted. The damage Lilium had caused, magically washed away with the waves of the mind. As she had been speaking, Akimaru had turned to face her. Her face was beautiful, and Akimaru felt sad to have to leave her. He didn't know when he would see her again, and that made him very sad.
Thoughts swirling through his head, mixed with emotions of relief, sadness, joy, confusion and many others, Akimaru wanted to shout out. But, he said it all with a simple "Goodbye." Maybe he sounded a little less enthusiastic than he would have, but he hoped it would suffice. For the third and final time that evening, he turned on his heel, and walked into his house.
