Mochi [Night Watch Mission, P]

The Preparations:

Mochi was required to do missions, as she had learned from many years spent alone. They were her only method of earning money, even though she wasn't very successful with them, for numerous and understandable reasons. At one point in time she tried navigation, but ended up in the wrong village, and gave them the wrong message anyway. As such she was restricted to doing missions around the village and its borders, or if she were to go further it required some form of escort. There was no time to ask Ame however, as she'd found herself quite busy during this time. Mochi simply decided to take on some simpler missions, after having one for Night Watch explained to her it became clear, this was her kind of job. The guards simply needed someone to tend to their needs, so why not the scrubby and reckless Mochi. Quickly and without concern she rushed in to accept the mission, although it turned out there was no queue and they were afraid a civilian may have needed to be hired. Welcomed quite warmly for taking the job, and easily acquiring permission to meet the guards at eight PM; Mochi was inclined to smile quite brightly. She rushed to the nearest public bath and jumped right in, causing a large splash that would have nearby patrons yelling at her. Mochi didn't care though, as she never did, there was somewhere she had to be which only furthered this resolution. It struck her now that helping these guards would probably entail quite a bit of work, while she hadn't slept for the entire day and spent it listening to geysers.

This could only lead to problems; it was too late to back down now though, as she made way for the guard post.

The Initiation:

Arriving ten minutes earlier than she was supposed to, Mochi was warmly greeted by the guards' senior member. He invited her to sit for a moment as they had time before she began, in order to fill her in on some of the details. Mochi accepted and surprised the man with her slang, but nonetheless they entered conversation. He informed her of the dangers that may accompany this job, and the duties she was 'required' to perform in order to succeed. Such things included keeping the guards energetic, getting anything they needed which would otherwise divide their attention, and making sure that any threats were reported swiftly. It was quite a simple job compared to most others, when she thought about it. Mochi nodded to just about everything he said, accompanied often by a 'hm' being pronounced with a happy tone. The man seemed a bit impatient as she didn't appear to be listening, although she was and simply couldn't sit still for as long as he wanted her to. With everything he said taken into consideration Mochi would stand, shortly after the guard senior directed her to the post. There were five guards in total but only four stood on guard at a time, while one would take an hour's break before swapping over with another. Mochi understood this system quite well, as she'd seen it implemented in quite a few places; this allowed workers to be very energetic and increased the amount of output. This was the first time she'd be involved with such a system though, and it was going to consume four hours.

She'd never been awake so long as it was, but adding on another four hours was stretching things for Mochi. She yawned and considered how difficult keeping up her energy would be, after all, there were many things yet to be done. Looking to one of the guards with a concerned expression, he simply nodded at her and smiled, focusing there onward to his guard duty. Mochi stepped closer to the guards and would begin her mission now.

The Performance:

She would begin by asking the guards what they wanted, and naturally they requested some coffee and energy food. Mochi wasn't totally sure what energy food stood for, but she would do her best to find it. She made her way down some stairs and into the store room beneath their post, finding the equipment to make coffee and some food in a box. Many variations lined the inside of the box, a few of which caused Mochi to drool a little. They had chocolate bars, protein bars, two minute meals; there were many more than these few that it she couldn't understand where it all came from. Understanding her job's requirements, Mochi took one of the chocolate bars and scoffed it down while making coffee. She believed the chocolate bars would count as energy food and grabbed a few, but just encase she also took a few protein bars as well. There wasn't much else she could do after all this so she would have to bring it all to the guards. Mochi looked around for a few seconds before discovering a tray which had been cleaned thoroughly, although it was covered in coffee cup stains from the years of use. She loaded up the tray and brought all of it to the guards, carefully going up the stairs and placing it on a table. The guards requested that Mochi stand watch momentarily, so she moved to their posts one at a time to allow them a drink and snack break. This was far shorter than their shift breaks, each one lasting up to about five minutes before the guard returned to duty. Mochi did what she could on the observation side, with her long sighted eyes aiding quite nicely. There were many small movements, rabbits and wildlife of the night. She could say little about the animals, as they were no threat, however she mentioned the kinds she could see aloud for the other guards to look at.

One by one they complimented her ability to notice minute details, showing some small respect to her observation. Mochi had never realized that she may possess some skill with such a thing, but it became apparent that she may have been better at it than ordinary shinobi. Further analysis would be required later to prove this; for now she basked in the attention. Her last watch came up and it was over before she knew it, as the guard returned to his post and it was revealed four hours had passed; this meant Mochi's mission had to come to an end.

The Resolution:

Having performed her duties admirably Mochi would retreat from her post, leaving a good impression on the guards. However, the next day she was asked to turn up at a meeting point, via courier nin. Mochi happily skipped her way to the place of interest and was greeted by the guards from the previous night, they were having food and drinks. She walked up to them and sat, although she didn't have any money to join in on their festivities. Instead the four of them pitched in and bought her a brand new bowl of ramen, accompanied by a chocolate milkshake and cookies. Mochi had never received such a gift and quickly began hoeing into it, while listening to propositions the guards made. They suggested that she go on guard duty herself, as it was an admirable job to help the village out and paid slightly better than the one she'd just performed. It didn't sound like a bad idea and Mochi was convinced that she had the know-how to succeed at it, but just to seal the deal they promised if she could perform guard duty from now on, they'd all celebrate together the next day and she would receive free meals. With that made clear to her, Mochi would suddenly accept this offer and become due for guard duty in the near future. She'd never expected such opportunities to arise simply by performing a mission, especially anything concerning food and beverages. However, with a meal like the one she'd just received, a sudden influx of energy was filling her system.

Mochi simply couldn't sit still and felt the need to spend some time practicing, there were many possibilities if she worked hard and at least now she had a goal. Missions for meals, time spent for treats earned. The next mission could not come fast enough.
