Soaked to the bone, Saya still continues to race back and forth through the a river she'd discovered flowing near her village. She'd cast off most of her clothing, leaving on only her shoes and her short robes. The soft cotton clung to her, though beneath it still hid her clan's fine chain mail. Like protective fishnet it covered her vulnerable organs with an almost unnoticable layer of light, flexible protecton. Her cloak is off on the shore of the wide river, draped over the wooden shaft of her spear with her helmet and mask atop it.. She'd cast away most of her other weapons as well, leaving them all resting on a stump and standing in the water with only her katana and it's sheath. The river she was in was wide, but mostly shallow in this area. A great multitude of salmon were swimming in it with Saya, much to their own dismay.

Though she hadn't hit one just yet, she still tried. With her sword still in it's scabbard she'd run forward, the long fish leaping up out of the water to escape their predator. At that moment saya would stop and draw her blade, quickly slashing it towards the fish. She'd kick up much water, and panic many fish, but for the past hour she hadn't even cut one. The resistance of the water was dragging her down as she ran, and what would normaly be less than a casual jog in distance felt like a marathon. She was breathless and exhausted but still tried. Over and over she chased down the large fish, and tried to catch one from her sheath as it leapt, and though she came close, she couldn't kill her dinner. One was all she really wanted.

Finally coming to a rest, Saya is exhausted. She slumps just slightly as she breaths, slidding the katana back in it's scabbard from the last attepmt. As a child she had learned how to hold her blade, and she felt like she knew it well. As an extension of herself, she just needed to trust in her talent with it. The fish around her continue to leap about, as if taunting the winded predator. Saya watches them as she leaps, wondering what it must feel like to succeed. As one jumps just beside her, she looks over at it to see it falling in two peices. The sword in her hand was old. It was older than her grandparent's grandparents and it was masterfully made. It was light as a feather in one hand but strong as the hammer that forged in in two. Before she had even realized she was doing so, she'd drawn her blade and cut the fish cleanly in two.

Instinctual fighting was something her family loved to talk about. How to fight without planning or hesitaton. How to let your body react, and your mind to watch. Cutting that fish had come from pure instinctual drive, and the effectivness of the cut made her shiver. The pair of fish peices fell in the water, darkening it with a small stream of red. Saya replaces the katana in it's scabbard as more fish continue to jump around her. Another jumps, and again she cuts, slicing to the left quickly and fluidly. As she looks, she see's she's missed. The fish had been elsewhere, and in her excitment she'd simply put too much thought into it. With a sigh she makes her way towards the shore to gather her belongings and leave.

One hit was good enough for now. She'd be practicing this technique forever, anyway.
