Yoroi Kaguya

Disturbing news had reached Yoroi when an owl bearing the symbol of the fire temple landed in the open window of the apartment he shared with Kimiko. Not entirely sure whether this was the kind of news he was allowed to share with Kimiko, he took the letter from the animal without actually saying a word to her about it. Reading what was written to him, it seemed that the monks needed his help with a mystery that revolved around the monastery. As it turned out, there were vandals in the forest that only came out at night to both plunder the graveyard and take away all of the corpses, while they also attacked the monastery itself from the shadows. It even said that some of the monks of the monastery had seen some of the hooligans that wandered about in the night, looking exactly like some of their fallen comrades, something that was pretty much impossible. Finishing the letter, there was but one final sentence that stated how Yoroi was not allowed to bring this up to anyone until everything had been sorted out. The notion of dead people walking around instantly raised a lot of red flags with the young Kaguya, knowing of only one man that had the ability and the twisted mind to bring the dead back to life as slaves that would do his bidding. Still, the randomness of it all seemed like something that was not like the puppeteer at all.

He was the kind of person that would make the civilians around him do as he pleased until the point came where he no longer needed their services. He was the kind of person that would hide behind the scenes until he felt like showing up and spreading further discord. Even though he was probably not allowed to say anything about these things to her, he could leave the note on the table so that she could “accidentally” figure out what was going on and what he had been sent out to do. If things turned out to be more than he could handle, there was not a doubt in his mind that Kimiko would lend him the aid he needed. That said, he had only once encountered a mission that he could not handle by himself, this being the time when he had met the man he could only nickname as the puppeteer. He was a ruthless man that cared not for the lives of the people he promised wealth and protection, turning them into mindless flesh bags that acted as he saw fit, whenever he wanted it to happen. He was truly evil, wishing for nothing more than the world war between the Shinobi villages, allowing him to reap the spoils of this war by creating an army of undead that would be used to wash over the remaining forces of the villages to make him the absolute ruler of the shinobi world.

When Yoroi had locked eyes with the man, he could not sense any hate or other negative feelings originating from the man, which was one of many reasons as to why Yoroi wondered what his motives for such a horrible act could be. When Yoroi tried to stop him, he had been thrown across the room, nearly got crushed between a pillar of earth and a ceiling while Shakreido had nearly been killed as well. Being both a near death experience and the first mission he had more or less failed for letting the man escape, neither him nor Shakreido had been able to forget what had happened that day, nor would they forget the face of the man that had almost been their undoing. At that time, the only person Yoroi had ever feared had become the person he had sworn to kill. If a man like him was allowed to walk freely, the world would always be in danger, knowing full well that those who were hell bent on watching the world burn while having the means to do so would not simply give up on his twisted ambitions. No, this man had to be eradicated, burnt to ashes and scattered upon the winds so that no one would ever be able to continue the work he had started.

Yoroi Kaguya

Leaving the apartment, Yoroi had made sure that the note was laying in plain sight so that Kimiko would not be able to miss the message written on it. With that, he started walking towards the fire temple, which was quite the long walk no matter how you looked at it. Knowing the way there like the back of his hand, he marched towards the place as fast as he could, because reaching the place several hours before nightfall would help him set up a strategy to aid in dealing with the whole situation. If the man he thought of was responsible for all of this, he would need to prepare every single monk in the fire temple so that no one would get killed. As things stood, it was believed that these attacks on the monastery were nothing but acts of vandalism and some of the monks seeing things due to stress, though Yoroi knew better than that. Everything was pointing in the direction of the puppeteer, which only made him all the more ferocious when it came to the completion of this mission. Though it was all about securing the graveyard and making sure there would be no more attacks, he had an additional goal in mind, the locating and annihilation of the puppeteer to end all of it once and for all.

By the time he reached the monastery, there was still plenty of time left for him to do some private investigation. It could never hurt to get as much information as possible before a mission, or so Yoroi thought when he went by the monks he ran into in the hallway. His destination was to reach one of the head monks, the one called Modoroki, for he was the one that had reached out to him when Yoroi was unaware of the fact that the old man had been instated as his godfather before his parents got killed. Whether he knew about the way in which is parents had met their end or for what reason was unknown to him, though there was not much of a point in asking about that now. Some day, he would most certainly want to know about it, though up until now, he just could not care about the people that had never been there for him. Focusing on the interaction with all of the monks he encountered, it seemed that there were a few of them that were particularly frightened of the risen dead that haunted the monastery and tried to destroy it. Some had seen a father, an uncle or an old friend walking around the place, which had obviously been a highly upsetting encounter for these people. Now knowing all he needed, it was time for him to catch up with Modoroki.

Upon reaching the private quarters of Modoroki, it seemed like the old man did not have a lot of time to spare for him. Opening the door in a hurry, Yoroi walked in and closed the door behind him. Before he could even ask him about what was going on, the old man started talking about how they had kept the monks of the fire temple in the dark for quite a while now, telling them that the things they had seen were just their nerves causing them to become delusional. Even though the people would start doubting themselves, they would at least keep the monastery from going into a state of chaos once they figured out that all of the attacks and the grave robbing was to raise the dead and have them attack the place themselves. Frowning at the old man, Yoroi knew that Modoroki and the elders had made the right decision to hide all of it from their people, though it would not solve a thing. If they were to make all of this go away, they would have to inform those with the ability to help of the situation, or they would not stand much of a chance against their enemy and his slaves. Modoroki understood what he meant, though he had a very different point of view on the matter.

Yoroi Kaguya

In his opinion, this was not the kind of thing a monk of the temple should be involved in, believing that they might see things that were not meant for them, at least not yet. A lot of people had come to the monastery because they wanted to find enlightenment while being as far away from the fighting as possible. As such, there would be no reinforcements while Yoroi worked out all of the problems on his own. While Modoroki was visibly troubled by the decision that had been made by the elder council, there was only so much that could be done to change the verdict, because to them, this was the best decision by far. Shaking his head in disappointment, he could not believe what he was hearing. These people that claimed to be defenders of the fire country refused to help themselves and had someone else clean their dirty laundry without lifting as much as a finger. At times like these, Yoroi was glad that he had chosen not to become a ninja monk, or he too would have been kept in the dark along with all the other cowards. Without saying a word, Yoroi turned around and walked out of Modoroki’s sight, having nothing left to say to the man after hearing about it. Walking out of the building, he would first look for something to eat, after which he would station himself somewhere that would allow him a wide field of vision by the time night hit.

A few hours later, darkness had fallen over the fire country. Sitting on the roof of the monastery, he would be able to look in every direction if something was to reach his ears. Thinking only about the cowardly way in which this situation was being handled, he thought that maybe he had been too hard on the old man. After all, it was not his decision but that of the entire council, meaning he only had the ability to do so much about it. Letting out a deep sigh, he heard something coming from the treeline, leading him to believe that there was an attack coming from the west. Hearing only the rustling of leaves and branches, it seemed like it was but a false alarm for a moment. That was when he could hear the footsteps coming his way from the other side of the wall, the sounds of moaning men and women moving in closer from the treeline, though there was no telling exactly where they all came from. Cracking his knuckles while scanning the area, he made his way down to ground level with a few agile jumps, landing on the other side of the wall while more and more of the undead flesh bags crawled up through the soil. At least that settled the whole question as to where they all came from so suddenly.

It was true what the people said about the appearance of the attackers, they were most certainly deceased monks, though there were also some civilians among the risen. Though they were not very fast and seemed to not possess any signs of knowledge as to the performing of Ninjutsu, the only strength they had was in numbers. Quickly swarming his location, Yoroi did not intend to let the enemy get the upper hand as he charged himself with lightning chakra. Dashing into the first couple of undead, he slammed his fists into their throats, sending a pulse of lightning through their body as a means of dispatching them. Much to his surprise, it seemed that the burst of lightning broke whatever jutsu it was that controlled them. Even though there were much more terrifying ways of dealing with these undead walkers, Yoroi did not want to disturb the remains of the deceased any more than they had been already. It was for this reason that he did not just give them a burning cremation through the use of fire jutsu. If he did, there would be no more corpses to bury, something that would most certainly upset the monks. That said, they did nothing while he was out in the field, doing the work that they should have been doing themselves, or should have at least helped him with.

Yoroi Kaguya

As one after the other got fried, it seemed like there were only so many of the walking dead remaining in the field, though none seemed to really plan any form of escape. If they had a brain of their own, they would not have challenged someone who so easily dispatched one after the other without really having to try. All of it just seemed way too easy for him, though that was probably because these undead seemed to have no recollection of the skills they once had in life, while Yoroi had been getting stronger for months without end. Purging one after the other with electric shocks, it did not take long before only a few remained.  With the last of the undead put out of their misery, Yoroi wiped a drop of sweat from his forehead as he looked out across the field that was littered with dead bodies. For as far as he could see in the dark, there was  not a single one of them left standing, each of them being taken down with a quick burst of lightning that fried their already damaged nervous system and kicked out whatever chakra it was that controlled them. Walking through the area that had been littered with corpses, Yoroi made sure that they were truly dead this time. Checking for a pulse, he figured that even if they were brought back earlier, nothing would have changed in terms of vital signs, making the attempt rather silly.

All of a sudden, Yoroi felt something down by his feet. Looking down, he saw several hands of stone reaching up from the ground, wrapping around his legs and pulling him into some pool of mud. Being grabbed by his arms and shoulders too, there was no chance of him forming hand seals, meaning all he could do now was store up his lightning chakra and wait. It seemed like the arms had a very different objective than to kill him, so whatever this was, it would most likely not kill him before the caster got what he wanted from him. Allowing the arms to draw him further down into the ground, he could always burst out by creating a massive output of lightning chakra if things went bad. After roughly ten seconds, he could feel that the earth near his feet had disappeared, something that told Yoroi that there was some sort of space beneath the floor here. Landing in an underground room, he was certain that this was some sort of catacomb that belonged to the Fire temple. It also explained where the multitude of corpses came from, for there were not nearly as many graves dug up as there were undead in the field. As he looked around, his ears peaked when he suddenly heard someone chuckle from the other side of the large room.

Turning his head to see who was there, his worst fear turned out to be true when his eyes caught the appearance of the one he could only remember as the Puppeteer. Standing on a ramp made out of earth, his gaze loomed over him, allowing him to look down on Yoroi from the other side of the room. When he started talking, he simply asked if he had enjoyed fighting his brain dead minions. Continuing as to how he had been informed of the fact that Yoroi had been training in the fire temple and had friends there, he claimed that he had set up these attacks as a means of drawing him out. Whether this was true or if this was just another way for him to hide his true intentions was unclear at this point, though he had managed to sufficiently piss Yoroi off already. For the things he had done to him and Shakreido, as well as the townsfolk he had killed a few months ago, the bastard would pay. Telling the puppeteer that he might as well stop talking, he started his assault to end the reign of terror caused by the old murderer. Forming a single hand seal, a wall of earth rose several steps ahead of him, though unlike the last time they met, a simple earthen construct would not hold the white haired youth down.

Yoroi Kaguya

Dashing forward, the focused chakra in his fist blew through the earthen wall that had been created as a means of stopping him. Jumping through the hole he had created, there was roughly thirty meters left between him and the man that stood on the elevated ramp. With some quick seals, even more earthen barriers rose from the ground in front of him, creating sections of interlocking wall that were obviously meant to crush him under their weight. Coating his body with lightning chakra, he stormed through the first wall, after which the next wall would fall to the remaining chakra in his fist. Suddenly, spears of stone shot from the wall in front of him in an attempt to pierce and kill him. As the stuck about half a centimeter into his flesh, they could go no further as Yoroi’s rib cage had grown to become one big plate of sturdy armor that could not be pierced by mere stone. Sending a burst of lightning through his body, the spears shattered and Yoroi went back to his approach. intending to kill the man as soon as he got within range to confirm a kill. More than anything, he wanted to beat the grin off of his face so that he would never get the chance to pull something like this again. Using the final wall that was raised from the ground as a stepping stone, he set off with as much force as his body could handle. Extending blades of bone from his wrists, he flew through the air and performed a dive bomb straight into the man.

Fully intending to end all of this before it had a chance to continue, he applied all the force and speed of his body and stabbed through the body of the puppeteer at a high pace. Moving faster and faster, he lacerated the entire chest area while ripping through his organs like a fat kid through a candy-bar  By the time he was done striking, he got up and panted like a beaten horse, looking at the mess he had just made. Through it all, he could not help but notice the smile on his face, even though his body was mangled and bleeding. Yoroi had finally done it, he had managed to take down the one that had been haunting him for several months now. Fully retracting the bones back into his forearms, it seemed like all of this had just gone too easy. He had only been attacked by a couple of shifting walls, while the puppeteer had made no attempt at fighting in close range at all. Scrapping his plan of leaving the place, he turned around to see that the body was rapidly darkening and melting, very much unlike the characteristics of an actual corpse. Closer inspection showed that the body had turned into earth and mud, meaning that this thing was nothing more than just another clone used to provoke him while being able to hide in a safe location. He had been tricked yet again, this time by a goddamn clone that had only been here to upset him and bully the monks of the fire temple.

In his rage, Yoroi got down on his knees and just started punching at the earthen remains of the clone that was still on the floor. “Calm down son, you’ll get your chance to kill me soon enough. After all, I still have to turn your home into rubble. Until that day comes, get stronger, get angrier. You’ll never see me coming, though I will know where you are and what you are doing”. Followed by a drawn out chuckle, the voice that seemed to boom from every direction at the same time disappeared as Yoroi stopped punching the lifeless earthen remains. There was no point in not believing what the man said, after all, he knew that if he would attack the monastery, Yoroi would be drawn out. How he got his information, he did not know, though he did know that he would not find the answers by staying here. Leaving the catacombs through the door that tied it to the monastery, he startled several monks that were guarding the door, looking at him funny as he left the building. Though the roads at night were dangerous, Yoroi did not fear any highwaymen after having just fought a horde of undead. He had not said a word to Modoroki as he left, though he figured that the guards would certainly inform him. He had done his job, and cleaning up the corpses was not his task, so the monks that had been hiding could fix that part themselves.
