| I spent some time tonight pondering weapons creation. What I came up with is that the current system is ridiculously restrictive. It has crippled weapons users with it's restriction on types of weapons they can wield. With two weapons categories per specialization into weapons you're extremely limited. That's like telling a taijutsu user that they can only punch and kick. Sure, some people would be okay with it, but some people would want to be throwing elbows and headbutts too. Being forced to pick between headbutting and being able to punch is asinine.
Take any warrior from history and they'd have more types of weapons then you could cover with specs. The romans had throwing spears (ranged), shields (blunt), swords (swords), thrusting spears (polearms).. and the list goes on and on. Even a yeoman bowman had his bow, a sword, and a buckler. So.. your telling me that I'm a freaking ninja and I can't outperform a middle ages yeoman bowman while the rest of the ninja are running around shooting fireballs out their ass the size of a three story building? I don't buy it.
Now, I'm not saying that you need an S rank weapon of each type, because that would be asinine, but I am saying that a weapons user should have access to all those weapons types, and likely know how to use them. Shooting an arrow isn't as complex as ninjutsu, etc. Neither is throwing a bomb or thrusting with a spear. Forcing a specialization that is all about being diverse to pick two weapons categorizes makes little sense.
Let a weapon user use what type of weapons they will, but use reason when handing out special weapons. Having multiple S rank weapons would be silly, but having a set of well made or standard weapons seems normal enough to me.
I don't make you pick between shooting fireballs or having flamethrower breath, so why should I have to choose from two options?
Also, a lot of the weapon ranks are so close together that having the system is neigh useless as the user will just designate the highest level their character can use. All of E-C and B-S is so similar that you could almost arbitrarily pick one of the three for your weapon and it would work. |

| I will come forth with my system soon, once I get my new keyboard for my laptop, the current one is broken. Since it would be hard doing any large-scale typing on my on-screen keyboard, I would like to wait a little bit. I might be getting one this weekend. If so, it will be finished Sunday morning.
Adam told me I could make it, then he would modify it a little, likely. |
