 Puppetry Technique Question Vide
PostSubject: Puppetry Technique Question Puppetry Technique Question EmptyWed 10 Dec 2014, 1:50 am

I might have missed this information when looking through the guides but when using multiple puppets (e.g. 3 puppets), would I pay the cost for activating the Puppetry Technique three times and then pay the upkeep three times every turn, or would I pay the activation cost once and triple the upkeep? I know that the upkeep in this case will always be triple (or will it?); I'm mainly curious about the initial cost.

Technique in Question wrote:
Name: Kugutsu no Jutsu • Puppetry Technique
Rank: C
Type: Puppetry
Range: Close (0m - 5m), Mid (5m - 10m)
Element: N/A
Description: This technique allows the user to use a puppet to attack from afar in battle. This is done by using chakra and forming them into strings which are then emitted from the fingers to the puppet. Should the user’s hands become disabled, either through physical injury or chakra impairment, this technique becomes neutralized.
Chakra Cost: 5 (2 Per Post)

EDIT: While I might understand why it is logical that the activation cost is paid for every puppet, this, when thinking about how many puppets one could control at the very top of his rank, becomes quickly unreasonable. In the case of using 12 puppets, one pays an activation cost of 60 and an upkeep of 24 every turn. Without any chakra boosting SC, (assuming he is a Master Jounin) he only has a pool of 160 which will be depleted within 4 turns.

Therefore I would suggest then that the Puppetry Technique is separated into ranks,  each allowing a use of up to X amount of puppets. For example:

A C-Ranked Puppetry Technique allows for the control of up to 3 Puppets at a time, for the Activation cost of 5 Chakra and an upkeep of 2, 3 or 4 based on the amount of puppets being used - 1, 2 or 3 respectively.

Then the B Rank variant would allow control of up to 6, A up to 9, and S up to 12.

Though only slightly related, it also came to mind that the Proficient Puppeteer SC is only in effect half of the time for Ranks C, B and A (though A has yet to be updated).

Spoiler:

Currently this is how many puppets one can control (note that the system has yet to account for the fact that Exp Jounin is now A+ and Sennin is S Rank):

  • Genin/C-ranks can control 2 puppets at a time
  • Exp. Genin can control 3 puppets at a time
  • Chuunin/B-ranks can control 5 puppets at a time
  • Exp. Chuunin can control 6 puppets at a time
  • Jounin/A-ranks can control 8 puppets at a time
  • Exp. Jounin/S-ranks can control 10 puppets at a time

And again, with the SC in effect:

  • Genin/C-ranks can control 3 puppets at a time
  • Exp. Genin can control 3 puppets at a time
  • Chuunin/B-ranks can control 6 puppets at a time
  • Exp. Chuunin can control 6 puppets at a time
  • Jounin/A-ranks can control 10 puppets at a time
  • Exp. Jounin/S-ranks can control 12 puppets at a time

It makes more sense for the SC to work in this proposed way:

  • Genin/C-ranks can control 3 puppets at a time
  • Exp. Genin can control 4 puppets at a time
  • Chuunin/B-ranks can control 6 puppets at a time
  • Exp. Chuunin can control 8 puppets at a time
  • Jounin/A-ranks can control 10 puppets at a time
  • Exp. Jounin/S-ranks can control 12 puppets at a time

Where the revision gives benefit to Exp Genin and Exp Chuunin.

For now, since puppetry is so rarely used, it will be a single cost no matter how many puppets. you still have to pay chakra to summon them etc etc if they're locked away in a seal

For the benefit of all the other puppeteers on the site (grand total of zero?), can we walkthrough the process of using puppets?

In the case of a singe puppet:
First Turn: Unseal the puppet from the scroll + Puppetry Technique
Second Turn: Puppetry Technique upkeep

Two Puppets:
First Turn: Unseal x2 + Puppetry Technique x2
Second Turn: Puppetry Technique upkeep x2

Three Puppets:
First Turn: Unseal x3 + Puppetry Technique x3
Second Turn: Puppetry Technique upkeep x3

And so forth?

If that's the case... Welp holy shit. XD Need some side dish of Jin chakra with this meal.

When Koga used puppets, he just unsealed them and paid the single cost no matter how many puppets (though he only had two). No one really said anything to him at the time because its so rarely used. For that reason, no one can say you have to pay so much.

So your plan is to determine how many you need and summon them all at the same time. We are aware of how underpowered Puppetry is and rebalance it after the tourney.

Besides giving out AF and other goodies, the tournament will be perfect in highlighting areas that need balancing.
