.History.
Konohagakure no Sato was one of the first shinobi villages established when the shinobi world finally stopped being aligned as individual clan territories and formed proper villages. Of course their early establishment meant immediate increasing numbers as clans began seeking a proper home with the village which was appropriately named the Hidden Leaf Village. As villages began forming all over the land, five of them truly stuck out, as they were the most powerful and most populated villages of them all. Konoha was one of these five, each residing in the largest countries, Fire Country was the home of the Leaf Village. The lands of Fire, Wind, Water, Lightning and Earth were shortly named The Five Great Shinobi Countries. The gathering of the clans to forge what is known today as Konogakure no Sato, was an extraordinary occurrence which took much bloodshed and reconciliation in order to do. After much trial one man was appointed to be the leader of the Fire Country as well as the upcoming village of Konoha, he was Kontserun, Yuigon, one of the greatest ninja of his time.
When Yuigon, the Shodaime was appointed to Hokage, Konoha was just starting to be built from the dense forest which it used to be. Equipped with only a few basic tools and their Jutsu, the clans progressively began to create the village piece by piece. Pretty soon over the course a couple of years, the fundamental construction of the village was deemed livable, the clans soon migrated into their respected quarters. In this early state the village was not much to be showboated about because of it's basic appearance but like most villages during that time it was just starting. The Administration Building was one of the first buildings completed along with the Hospital, and the Shodaime resided there during most of his professional affairs as Hokage. As most years gone by the village of Konoha started to interact more with the neighboring countries such as Suna and Kumo, and later established cordial trade with them for food, supplies, fabric, and other miscellaneous material of use. With armies now being set up in each village, the birth of Ninja Politics and Warfare started to emerge. Although the nations kept their prejudice discreet with one another in fear of causing war, in hindsight there were circumstances such as small battles taking place for rule over smaller countries such as Sound and Rain Country.
Decades later when the villages now had a stable structure and government, new challenges were beginning to arise. There was a strong yet potent collection of individuals in various clans that didn't like and follow the ideology of being ruled by someone other than a clansmen like the old times. Many of them fled from the village and joined the other criminal society, while the others decided to perpetuate their anger inwards towards the village itself. They caused mayhem of all sorts within the village, until ultimately the Shodaime decided to execute them for being menaces to society. After the rioting period, it was discovered that those those who had left the village withheld confidential information about Konoha within their knowledge, which could be used by opposing nations. Under this notion the Shodaime created an elite group of Ninja that specialized in assignation and hunting, calling them the "ANBU". Furthermore, as as a much expected collateral price for demonstrating power of legalized execution, the villagers started to see the Hokage as too powerful and began to question his authority. Elders from the clans started to form a small group with political power almost equal to the Hokage which was now known as the "Council of Konohagakure no Sato". There was a great clash between the Hokage and the Council for power, but ultimately it boiled down to who the Military of Konoha trusted more, and that was the Hokage, since he led them to victory many times before and trusted his judgement wholeheartedly. The Council subsided to a more peaceful standpoint with the Hokage, becoming his "pushy" advisers which he accepted for the wants of the villagers.
Konoha became one of the two most powerful villages within the world under the long reign of the Shodaime, with only Kumo as it's fair competitor. The Shodaime during this period was an elder himself, and his long white beard and hair was still unmatched by the length of his wisdom. However, this was the period of a great battle that freed Konoha from it's chains of serenity. Otagakure, Yukigakure, along with a vast number of unclassified criminals attacked the village in a devastating assault which led to a huge battle within the village. Many people were killed, buildings were destroyed and some of Konoha's finest treasures went missing. However, Konoha succeeded in defeating the enemy and driving the survivors out of their country. Devastatingly, Shodaime became very ill after the war, and died in his bed before passing the title of Hokage to a woman known as Etsu Senju.
Etsu Senju brought a lot of peace to the village with a long and very prosperous rein. Some say it was due to the activities she conducted behind the scenes that had brought the peace. For very early on as Hokage, Etsu was considered a Juggernaut in offensive prowess and had effectively scared the other villages into leaving Konohagakure to their own doings. Whispers caught on strange winds brought news too few of the activities that the Hokage had organized on secret raids and tactical missions to cripple potential threats. This did bring safety as a whole however helped little to the reputation that Konoha had garnered. It was no longer in danger, though it couldn’t be trusted either and this brought some even darker retaliation. For two decades the village continued on like this, eerily quiet in terms of mission cooperation from the other villages and trade, yet still safe and protected from possible threats.
This all changed on one of the more relaxed tours to the neighbouring Wave Country where Etsu was greeted with such immense happiness and friendliness. Upon the return to the Leaf Village, it had become apparent that Etsu had contracted some sort of a virus or a cold on the final day of the tour. Despite the medical staffs intention to monitor Etsu closely, her arrogance and ignorance forced her otherwise and she was lying on death bed within too long. Some muttered poison, a retaliation from those who she had affected secretively whilst most who were shadowed from the activity took her death as a strange incurable illness. The village grieved briefly, however came to the realisation that the sensible approach was to select a Hokage as quickly as possible – a unanimous decision by the Council of Elders saw the very successful and very determined Jounin and Hokage aide rise to the position of power. He was known as Robin Uzumaki and had learnt from the actions and inactions of his predecessor.
Robin Uzumaki worked to restore immediate alliances with the main villages of the ninja world, all except Kumo of which he had a personal grudge against and saw little village benefit in an alliance being reconstructed. Robin instead put the main focus on the interactions between the villages and the knowledge gained shared. This further allowed him to organize and coordinate the success of every differently ranked team through different styles of missions, mostly between the many villages. Robin Uzumaki would go on to lead the village for the next 10 years.
Though being quite the charming success at Hokage, it would turn to one fateful evening that Robin Uzumaki was to be forced to act against his beliefs. Upon learning of the recent disappearance of Kumogakure no Sato's Sandaime Raikage, the village council voted as a majority to invade and attack the weakened village. Despite the lust for revenge that lingered within Robin's head, it was his heart that spoke out and defied even Robin for a second. He was not grown up to attack a dog when it was down and he refused to attack Kumo so vulnerable; so he refused the council. The next morning, news had traveled quickly throughout the village of the newly chosen Hokage Ridori Mitsu and Robin's apparent resignation. Robin had effectively been usurped because of one action or rather inaction whilst resulted in the downfall of his success.
The village of Konohagakure would never settle to become a dictatorship. Whilst the Hokage lead the village in battle and handled many of it's affairs, he was never top of the tree - the council of elders were the ones whom really made the decisions, acting behind the scenes and taking anonymous votes about major issues that were too important to be resolved by the judgement of the shinobi they had elected. The members of such a group were required to be experienced and wise, which meant many had relatively short reigns over their seats of power. When the inevitable came and those whom had served for nearing on a decade - minus only one, the youngest of the group - snuffed it, in rolled the new generation; and with them, a new ideology.
Konohagakure no Sato had long considered itself as the leading power amongst the five great shinobi powers within the world. As the village retained peace under the rule of Robin Uzumaki, they felt that it's image had fallen to those in the outside world; the current Hokage was far too carefree, he had let the perception of the power he stood for decrease. Perhaps it was his flirtatious attitude with women, or his general lack of professionalism. Many may have hedged the blame upon his many publications, which were world renowned. They would much rather have themselves portrayed as a firm village with a high standing, one that was to be revered by all others. Of course, the elder of the trio disagreed with such thoughts - Konoha's economy was flourishing, more and more genin were being produced from the academy and the size of their military was larger than ever before. It would be foolish to ill use such might for the sake of appearing tyrannical. But one man could not stand against such Jingoistic views in a council of three, and every word he uttered was overruled. Robin Uzumaki was to be over thrown, and a ruthless leader with a reputation that would implement fear into all who dared rival Konoha.
Of course, with youth comes a degree of naïvety. When the opposing elder informed the newest councillors of a promising Jônin, known as 'The White Protector', whom came from a family of Shinobi but had lost many relatives to conflict with other nations and had a backdrop stained in blood that most certainly left a mark of hatred upon him, they were very eager. But of course, the picture he painted was not particularly accurate. With all haste, Ridori, Mitsu was made Hokage and set the task of over throwing Robin Uzumaki; little were two thirds of the council aware that he was far from what was promised. Whilst he had lost his family to numerous battles, he was far from a war-mongering lunatic, or a revenge crazed, blood-thirsty tyrant. He was pro-military but desired a peaceful, flourishing village that outshone other villages by being politically open and attempting to allow trade and diplomatic negotiations. His foreign policies were, indeed, the exact opposite of what the council had planned.
The usurping in itself was, thankfully, uneventful. No conflict was staged between the new and old Hokages, a peaceful resolution was reached and an understanding forged from a quickly formed bond. Mitsu's first action was to perform yet another usurping - that of the council. The old codger whom had stood for his beliefs and been the only thing stopping a lunatic taking charge of the village and creating a blood bath remained, of course, alongside two academic introverts with less extreme opinions. Peace remained in Konoha, although Mitsu was aware it may not last; he quickly attempted to patch old wounds, eliminate old grudges and re-open talks with nations whom had chosen to ignore each other. He hopes to be successful in bringing about a co-operating land, but what obstacles will be in Konoha's way?
