| || Plot Thread || Cooking with the Hokage Closed The Summer Festival is one of Konoha's most solemn celebrations and is hosted annually in the first week of summer, a few days after the illustrious spring twilight. It is the most renowned of the seasonal festivals simply because of the atmospheric conditions which coincides with the growing of the village's crops, making harvesting the most plentiful this time around. Rice, beans, corn and many other vegetables and fruit flow into the village in a endless quantity, being sold to villagers and the rest being prepared for the arriving festivals. But not only is the festival a time for villager's to stuff their faces with delicious foods, but also to enjoy the remembrance of the village's history, and honoring those who died to protect it. It's antiquity is very rich, and is laminated with enough history to fill a textbook, which is testimonial as to why it's so renowned amongst villagers. People everywhere are preparing for the festival in their own ways, some more exuberant than others of course. Many clans or families have their own little exclusive routines they do to honor their clan and prepare for the festival, which can include many anomalous activities such as praying to their own deity or even having food fights within their headquarters which they believe brings luck, odd but true. Despite the differences on how people prepare, the spirit of happiness is being bestowed to everyone and when the Festival arrives, Konoha unities in the grandest celebration that beacons the entire country. Outside in the districts and streets you'll find people running around from store to store, collecting food (mostly desserts) and clothing to wear to the events. Moreso you'll find people decorating the exterior of their homes in sparkling golden streamers and balloons. It would be a understatement to say that this week was going to be very hectic. -Enter Lady Hokage- If Etsu wrote within a diary about her day, she would write that it was filled so much solace and joy that it was overwhelming for her. Since sunrise she'd been out in the streets of Konoha, going from store to store and hugging her fellow villagers. She visited many places such as shopping centers and grocery stores picking up her own personal supplies, but not after the valueless advice of her secretary, that accompanied her 'everywhere'. Children would run up to Etsu, most with their two front teeth missing and pull on Etsu's robe while laughing at her. One even managed to pull her robe up and expose all her business inside a store, she began to regret sending her bodyguards off for the day to be with their families. She'd gotten plenty of hugs and handshakes from fellow villagers wherever she went and it was quite a heart warming experience for her, it shown that being Hokage wasn't a life packed with tedious paperwork and mind stretching decisions. Unfortuantley for her secretary, Yimiko, carried all of her bags, poor woman. But frankly Etsu would rather hear her cry in agony than her irksome secretary voice telling her what to do. Finally at dawn, both Yimiko and Etsu made it to Etsu's private mansion near the northern tip of the village, Yukiko carrying nearly ten bags of items and groceries. Both were at the mansion door when Etsu started to form a seal to release the barrier she placed around her home for protection, very classy. " Yimiko, did you find me some little helpers to help me cook tonight?" Etsu asked in a nonchalant tone but with a hint of curiosity. "Yes my lady, the three of them should be arriving within approximatley ten minutes." She affirmed. " Very good, I can't wait to teach the youngsters a thing or two about cooking!" Etsu laughed, her kage hat jiggling with every chuckle. She seized all ten bags at once and held them effortlessly by her sides, secretly teasing Yimiko. She proceeded into her home but not before gesturing Yimiko to stay outside and greet the young guests once they arrived. She did so, standing by the door and staring off into the distance with her sophisticated gray kimono and short cut hair which she sported in a bun. Etsu exited her lobby and walked expeditiously towards her kitchen, making her way through great golden hallways and portraits imported from other villages. The kitchen is one of the most warming and bewitching locations within her mansion. Great wooden flooring that glossed as though they were just polished, and cabinets that filled the walls all storing various food and candy. In the center of the great room was a large red marbled counter with stove on its center. As requested, three leather chairs were placed around the counter opposite of Etsu. Those are where Etsu's guests will be sitting to once they entered her kitchen to help with some festival foods. Etsu placed the bags on the counter and began going through them, organizing them neatly on the counter. Any minute soon they will be arriving, and she wondered who they would be. Fun Note: In this thread we will be making authentic food with actual ingredients, so hopefully you'll learn while roleplaying! Template © Lauren (Cyanide Candy) |

| SAY YOU'LL WATCH OVER ME
As his sunglasses began slightly slipping down his face, Sakumo extended his index and middle fingers on his right hand to push them back up as his pinky latched onto his golden pen effortlessly, as he brought his hand back down, he thrust the pen back down onto the page of his journal, that rested comfortably on the palm and forearm of his left arm as his fingers grasped the top. The teenager was crouching perfectly and had been doing so for the last forty-five minutes without much movement, besides the occassional stratching of his pen to paper. It would seem that the Genin led quite the boring life if you were to have observed him today, but this was as exciting as life could get for the latter, for he had spent the last four hours walking around the villages park observing various insects. Right now he was concentrating on a butterfly, a beautifully coloured one that had vibrant shades of blue all over its wings. The creature was inches away from Sakumo as the Genin stayed crouched, stratching down notes about the butterflies colours and its behaviour.
It wasn't long after that when Sakumo heard distant crunching and rustling, it was clearly somebody approaching his location, he took in an unethuastic sigh as he kept crouching, he knew what was about to happen as the noises got closer. Sakumo watched until the butterfly he was observing fluttered away in a hurry as two figures pushed through the bush it was perched on. Sakumo didn't acknowledge the two for a moment as he watched the butterfly disappear through the thick trees that surrounded the area. Sakumo finally turned his head back to the bush, where his company had remained as he looked up since he had refused to stand as of yet. Book and pen still in hand, folded his left forearm over his right one as he placed them on his right knee, all while still crouching. The two figures hadn't spoke yet, Sakumo looked at them through his sunglasses, one of them was a large male with a very stern build, in a Jounin attire of course, his face was recognizable but no name could be put to the face, it wasn't until he looked at what stood in front of this man. A petite kunoichi, surely older than Sakumo but she didn't look a day over eighteen. The girls face, Sakumo knew. Though like her collegue, Sakumo could not think of a name off the top of his head, he knew exactly who they were though, just by the kunoichi's face. They were two of the Hokage's guards. She had quite a few and Sakumo knew the faces of them all, they were said to be the strongest of the strong, but Sakumo wasn't impressed, not yet.
“Can I help you?” The Genin asked curiously, his voice was smooth, yet plain. No emotion slipped from his lips. The kunoichi would return the favour as her cute little voice would do its best to hold its colour. “Sakumo Aburame?” She questioned. “Perhaps.” Sakumo replied without hesitation. “A yes or no answer please sir.” Sakumo titled his head at this response, trying to work out where this conversation was heading. With a quick flick of his wrists, Sakumo's book had opened back up as he brought pen to paper, stratching down some more notes, this time about the kunoichi and her gorilla. As he continued the conversation flowing, barely. “How did you find me?” Sakumo asked. Once again without hesistation the kunoichi would reply, she was very direct and Sakumo would make note of it in his journal. “Yimiko told us that if you weren't at either one of your residences, we would most likely find you here.” Sakumo paused for a moment, his pen coming to a hault mid-sentence. Yumiko? The Hokage's Assistant?” “Yes sir.” “What business does she want with me?” Sakumo asked as he finished off his sentence, closed his book and finally stood up, awaiting another swift answer from the girl.
“Yumiko wanted us to inform you that you have been invited to visit the Hokage's Residence tonight for dinner and now that we know we can leave you to your business, good day.” The kunoichi finished before disappearing back into the bushes with along with the speechless shinobi that accompanied her. Sakumo was curious to why he had been invited, in fact he hadn't even met the Second Hokage yet and suddenly he was invited to a dinner? None the less this wasn't the kind of invitation one could refuse. Sakumo sighed heavily yet again as he stuffed his pen and journal into his back pocket before heading North, towards his home. He headed to his mansion which happened to be just a street away from the Hokage's Residence. It was there he would shower and change his clothes, dressing in a completely black robe with gold trimmings, he considered this event to be semi-formal and thought it would be nice to look the part considering this would be the first time he met the new leader of his beloved village. It wasn't long before dawn struck, putting his pen and journal into the inner pocket of his robe before leaving his home, it didn't take him too long to walk down the now quiet streets of his village before reaching the Hokage's residence. The place was massive, he had been inside it before back when it was the First's, now it was the Second's and he wondered what kind of changes that had occurred to the inside, considering the Second was a female.
As approached the mansion he saw Yumiko standing out the front, gesturing the Aburame boy in with a warming smile. “Hello Yumiko, nice of you to invite me.” Sakumo said, expressing a happy emotion in the tone of his voice. “Oh Sakumo, the Second Hokage has been eager to meet you for quite a while and I couldn't think of a better way then tonight, I'll join you shortly, I just have to greet the other guests.” She said with a smile. Sakumo assumed correctly though, he wasn't the only one coming to see the Hokage tonight, as he walked up the large steps that lead up from the property to the building itself, he thought of how many people might be attending tonight but he didn't linger on the thought for very long for he had reached the front doors. Pushing them open took quite a large push since these doors weren't small or light, quite the opposite actually. Entering the lobby first he basked in the warmth of the mansions first room, noticing a new addition to his right it was a life sized statue of the First Hokage, clearly a sign of respect form the Second, he approached the statue and appreciated it for a few moments before proceeding down the famous golden hallways, following his ears since he could hear noises in the distance he observed all the marvelous paintings down the hallway, all new additions. It seemed the Second Hokage was quite interested in artistic treasures. Finally the Genin reached the kitchen, he didn't bother looking at his surroundings just yet, his eyes fixated on the beautiful and young Second Hokage. He had seen photos of her, he'd been in her presence but standing this close to her was breathtaking. He cleared his throat for a moment which got the Hokage's attention. He was about to get even closer to her as he approached moving closer to her location across the large open kitchen.
“Lady Hokage. Sakumo Aburame, a pleasure to meet you.” he said with a warm smile and a perfectly timed bow. He had left it at this and this only, not uttering another word until the Hokage would decide to speak back to him, since he didn't want to enter her manor and bombard her with small talk, he would appreciate the night and its longivity for meeting this amazing kunoichi was something the Genin wished to do for some time now.

With a back pack stuck to his back and several shopping bags tied on to his hands, Shazamaru quickly went to the shop, next door to the one he previously was in. He was looking for some kind of special dessert which the Nara eat for every festival. It seemed to be a very hard one to find as, he had been in several shops with no luck, even though he did buy other stuff for the big festival which consisted of decorations, which was just for his bedroom, and also he was able to pick up his new clothes which he had the Nara symbol stitched on the torso of it. Upon coming out of the store, Shazamaru turned his head slightly so he could see the shop owner "Thank you" he actually said this because they had the dessert that he had been looking for.
When turning his head back to the front, two large shadows was in his way. The shadows were blocking their face's so it was quite hard to identify them, "Nara, Shazamaru?" one muttered, this was quite weird for him, is he in trouble? "Indeed" "Good, you have been invited by the Hokage to attend her mansion for dinner" before Shazamaru could say anything more, the two men where already disappearing into the excited crowd. After that the young Nara made his way through the crowd, and began to set off back home. 'This would be a perfect time to use my new clothes' he thought with a very big simple smile on his face. Arriving at his own house, he walked in and placed all of the bags he had collected on the table. No one was home so he left a simple note by the bags, which would say about him going to the Hokage's mansion. Hopefully his parents wont make a big deal about it, but then again he will be wishing for a miracle that would never come true. His dad would make the biggest fuss, as he always talked to Shazamaru about his first time seeing the Hokage face to face, quite frankly it got boring after a while.
Now that he was ready, Shazamaru was wearing a dark grey, short sleeved t-shirt with the Nara symbol on the front. Then for the first time ever he was wearing black trousers with his normal ninja sandals but they were also black this time. Now heading North towards the mansion, he was quite eager to see the Hokage face to face for the first time, many children were running around, excited about the festival, as any one should, it is always a good festival with many activities going on. One activity he will be playing with his family, will be shongi in the dark and also one including shadows, the shadows one is new to him as he is now old enough and can use shadow manipulation. Arriving at the mansion, Yumiko was stading at the entrance to welcome him in "Ahh Yumiko, thank you for the invite" "Hello Shazamaru, it is good that you could attend" "I couldn't let the Hokage down" "Thats good and if you could go to the kitchen now please". She faced her hand towards the stairs which lead to the Hokage, not wanting to question anything he simply started to ascend the stairs. Now he was at the top, he looked behind him and saw Yumiko no where. 'Looks like im not going to be alone'.
Walking down the corridors, it seemed that the Hokage had something for art. Maybe it was just paintings or just all art, like models etc. The place was very nicely decorated, with many things through out the hall. Shazamaru arrived at the kitchen, but before entering he peeked his head through, left, right, standing there was the Hokage, with all of her beauty. Stepping in, he smiled "Hello Hokage-sama". He then noticed that another person was in the kitchen as well, he simply smiled at the other person, as he did not want to seem rude towards the Hokage. But before anything else happened, Shazamaru began to look around him to see how good the kitchen was, obviously it was going to be good but, this will be the only time he is going to be in here so he took every moment to see everything that he could.

| "I'll take 5 apples, 3 oranges and... Some of those grapes please". A young ninja stood in front of a small fruit stand, almost quivering in anticipation as the owner bundled the order into a bag for the young man. "Here you are" he said, handing the bag over. Almost immediately the youth leaped skyward with barely enough time for a rushed "Thank you" to reach the man's ears. In his shock and confusion, it took him about five seconds for him to realize he had not recieved payment. Looking towards the sky where the boy had leaped, he raised his fist, face contorting in anger and just as he was about to curse the heaven's for the boy's theft, several bills and coins fell onto his face. The coins bouncing off and rolling on the ground at his feet.
Riley leaped from rooftop to rooftop humming nonsensical tunes to himself as he enjoyed his spoils. The bag dangling from his left arm fluttered in the breeze, its contents bouncing with their owner. In his right hand held but a quarter of an apple which was quickly devoured, core and all, by the boy in one quick bite. Swallowing the juicy fruit, the boy laughed and came to a stop at the edge of a roof. Pulling out another apple, he took a large bite, the juices spilling down his chin were quickly wiped away by the sleeve of his grey shirt. "Man, I really needed that. Dinner is still two hours away, I would have collapsed before making it home!". Shoving the rest of the fruit into his mouth, he was greeted by a shadow figure that seemed to all but materialize about a meter behind him.
"YO! You're Riley right?" The figure asked in a very loud, perky tone. Immediately, the boy's muscles tensed and forced him to leap from his spot. Letting out a startled yelp, he found himself missing the rooftop and beginning to fall to the street below. A quick twist of his body was just enough for a hand to latch onto the edge of the roof. His bag of fruit falling to the ground two stories below and splattering on the ground. Looking back up, he saw a young female ninja, though she did look to be older than himself at least, looking down at him. "So, are ya Riley or not?" She asked in a stiff tone. "Y-yes?". Riley responded meeky as he continued to dangle from the roof.
"Good, now listen up" The girl began "The Lady Hokage has requested you to go up to her mansion for dinner." A few long moments of silence hung in the air before Riley, with his free hand, pointed towards himself. The girl nodding at his gesture, he asked "What for?". The girl, with a simple shrug replied "Dunno" before disappearing just as quickly as she had arrived. Hauling himself up to the roof, Riley sat cross-legged and thought over this invitation for a minute. "What the heck would the Hokage want with me? Did she find out I broke all those windows training? Or did I win some contest I didn't know I entered?"With a sigh, Riley jumped to his feet and looked down at his clothes. "Well, guess I should change first off. Can't go to a dinner party covered in muck"
Running home, he immediately went into his bedroom and began tearing apart his limited wardrobe. He had never really had an occasion where he needed to dress for the part, so all he had were casual clothes. He ended up choosing a plain grey shirt who's only markings were the clan's symbol on the right shoulder and some simple blue jeans, he ran out to the living room where his father sat with a newspaper. "Hey Dad, would this be okay to go to Dinner in?" He asked, holding up the clothing in front of him. His father, lowering the newspaper just enough to glance over the top, merely shot him a funny glance before asking "What are you worrying about that for all of a sudden, you got a date or something?" To which Riley replied with a quick "Yeah, something like that""Ah, I see, I guess it's fine then" He then flipped the paper back up to its original position as Riley returned to his room to change. As he dashed back out, his father grunted "So, who's place you going to anyway?". "The Hokage's!" Riley replied as he slammed the door shut. Leaving his father sitting in stunned silence.
Outside, he immediately took to the rooftops and dashed towards the mansion at full speed. As he came within sight of the mansion, he could make out a feminine figure waiting by the entrance. She seemed to have noticed him as well as he took one final leap and stuck the landing about two meters from her. "Yo! I got an invite or something I think?" He asked, scratching the back of his head and cracking his neck while doing so. The woman just smiled "Indeed, go on inside. There are already two other guests who arrived before you" She said in a very soft tone as she lead Riley inside.
"Whoa" Riley gasped to himself as he was lead through the mansion. Paintings, statues, vases and other pieces of fine art lined the walls. The place was even more beautiful than the main branch house of his clan and almost immediately he felt his greeting by the entrance was quite rude and out of place for something like this. He also felt extremely under dressed. Once the woman stopped by a door and turned to him, motioning for him to enter, he tensed his body up into a bow "T-Thank you for your hospitality" His voice extremely stiff and awkward as he spoke and was met with only a small giggle from the woman. "It's alright. Please head inside".
Stepping inside, he saw that there were two other people, from their appearance he could only guess they were also genin, as well as the Hokage herself. Both other genin were dressed far better than himself and he made his way awkwardly into the room as Yumiko smiled towards the Hokage "Everyone has arrived, Hokage-sama". |

| --- So elegant, so enticing and organized, Lady Hokage had set up each station just how she pictured within her imagination. Crumbing her final paper bag between her delicate hands she eyed each of the three stations with admiration sparkling through eyes. Reflecting off those chestnut irises of hers were three stations which all consisted off a small cup of salt water, a cup of rice, a small sheet of seaweed, a very small cup of sesame seeds and another of dried fish flakes, all organized in a neat fashion on top of a bamboo cooking sheet. At the corners of each station was a bonnet of red dragon lotuses as the finishing touch. With all the elements together in a harmonizing mixture, they created a scenery of a ancient japanese dining area which Etsu hoped would intrigue her young Genin. Rarely was she capable of displaying something peaceful which wasn't a result of killing someone since her childhood, and doing so did bring her back quick flashbacks of her time with her mother. She smiled at the her thoughts and using her katon chakra had set the bag she was holding into flames, reducing it to ash which she clapped into the atmosphere where it quickly dispersed, leaving a slight burning scent within the kitchen.
After removing her hat and placing it onto a wooden door handle, Etsu began to hear footsteps through the walls at a distance only skilled shinobi like herself were capable of hearing and analyzing with clarity. The steps person was gentle and balanced, and he or she moved in ponderous pace, probably admiring her gallery like many guests do. While flattered she moved back to the table while wrapping her auburn hair in a bun, which took only a second with her lightning hand movements.
Moments later a young lad entered the kitchen and cleared his throat, his caliginous presence manipulating the entire energy of the room to a brief nebulous state. Etsu hands gently fell from her face, eyes fixated on him while secretly holding a storm of emotions. "Sakumo", she thought while putting up her dandy poker-face which was armored with her innocent smile. Sakumo was a very talented Genin in Konoha whose history was caked with both pain and death which Etsu knew well of. She was very fond of his deceased father during her teen years as a Chunin, the two of them were very close although his attractions were captured by another ninja, Sakumo's mother. Although their friendship faded into acquaintances over the years she still admired his father deeply as the honorable shinobi he was, and even today his death is still felt by Etsu. Eventually his whole family was killed in the war which Etsu played a major role in ending. While Sakumo was in his comatose state in the hospital, she remembered visiting him on occasion to check on his health status and socializing with his teammate, Megumi about him during her short visits. Now looking at him with his pale skin and formal black robe he was the spitting image of his father, and an embodiment of part of Etsu's lifelong sorrows.
“Lady Hokage. Sakumo Aburame, a pleasure to meet you.” He said with a smile and bow, his voice mirroring his presumed gentlemen nature being from the Aburame clan.
"Ah Sakumo, believe me, the pleasures all mine." She responded.
Moments later another handsome young man entered the kitchen. From his physical characteristics alone Etsu perceived him to be a member of the Nara clan, whom like many of Konoha's original clans she had extensive knowledge of.
"Hello Hokage-sama", he greeted upon entering. Following his introduction he proceeded to examine the kitchen which was quite quintessential for a Nara, always examining their environment.
"Hello young man, welcome to my home." She greeted back.
Finally another young man entered the kitchen, his bluish-purple hair being the beacon to his presence. This would definably be Riley of the Asuha clan, the younger brother of Elise who was one of Etsu's former students. She spoke of her younger brother highly during their time together although Etsu never had the opportunity to meet him face-to-face, until now that is. If he was anything like his older sister he was a spectacular shinobi. She half-smiled at him before catching note of Yimiko who entered after him.
"Everyone has arrived, Hokage-sama". Yimiko politely confirmed. Etsu tossed her a slight nod which signaled both a thank you and a goodbye. Yimiko left the room instantly which was presumably be a flicker to the Genin, although with Etsu's perception it was simply a quick dash down the hall. Etsu didn't take offense to her rush, although she's always down her own throat most of the time she understood that Yimiko had other matters to attend to besides hers. But now that the blade has been sharpened, it was time to execute the attack.. per say. After greeting the latest addition to her cooking team, Etsu smiled and began reciting her formal welcome behind the counter.
"Ah, my young chefs! Welcome! Thank you all for taking time out of your day to come help me with some festival cooking, your help is greatly appreciated." She humbly expressed. For about thirty more seconds she educated in detail about her kitchen which was essentially describing where things were and the different foods there were in the cabinets. Her lecture was pretty short as intended, she didn't want to bore he guests as soon as they walked in. "-Oh but enough standing now! Go wash your hands in the sink and come have a seat by the table." She said while gesturing towards the red leather chairs. While her guests were washing their hands, she formed hand seal and summoned three sheets of paper which appeared at each of the three stations. On them was a picture of the food they would be making, the recipe, and the instructions. She would give them time to read it before proceeding to go over it with them, it may also be a time for casual conversation.

| AFTERNOON DELIGHT
Sakumo's breaths deepened as the Hokage responded to his greeting, feeling like he was under a spell as her memorizing words reached his ears. It didn't take him long to realize why she said the pleasure was all hers. Not only would have the Nidaime heard of Sakumo's accomplishment during the war, she also knew Sakumo's father in their years rising through the ranks, even though Sakumo's father was a bit older than Lady Etsu her abilities were almost unmatched, which is why she was placed in a unit with Sakumo's dad. With this past relationship in mind, surely the Hokage knew not only of Sakumo's glory during the war, but his everlasting pain. As Hokage, it was her duty to know of all the casualities, but Sakumo began to ponder on what the Hokage had felt when hearing about the passing of Sakumo's family, since she knew Sakumo's parents and even his older brother. The Aburame studied her face through his sunglasses to see if he could pick up any emotions just by looking at Sakumo, but there was nothing negative, which Sakumo had expected. Even if she did feel something, she wouldn't allow it to be shown, especially when more guests were on their way.
The third Genin's footsteps approached almost mere seconds after the Nara's entry, almost as if each person was scheduled to arrive just after the last one had greeted the Hokage. These footsteps were approached by a second set, which broke Sakumo's train of thought? Was it two more guests arriving at once? As the figures emerged, a shorter blue haired boy stood in the kitchens entrance, soon followed by Yumiko. The blue haired lad awkwardly made his way into the center of the kitchen without a word as Yumiko informed the Hokage that all the guests had arrived. Surely the Hokage had known this but the gesture was a polite one none the less, although it may have been manditory, Sakumo did not know. But he now knew one thing for sure, there were only two others guests, tallying the total to three, excluding Yumiko as it wasn't made clear whether she was here for dinner too.
But it seemed the answer to that question would soon follow. Sakumo who was standing the furthest away, since he had distanced himself as each person entered, giving them all substanstial personal space despite the kitchens already overwhelming size. The Aburame found himself closer to the large dining room behind him as opposed to the kitchen. Having a clear view of everything, Sakumo was well aware of the signaling nod the Nidaime had directed towards her assistant, which resulted in a split second exit from her collegue. It seemed like the two Genin hadn't completely acknowledged that Yumiko's presence was no more, but Sakumo certainly had he had been examing everything in the room from the moment he entered, especially the people who inhabited it. He questions if the Nara had actually realized though, since most of them were usually very perceptive, the latter seemed more fixated on the actual kitchen than the people, and as for the blue haired kid, he hadn't even come to a stop from his entry into the room to realize the kunoichi who had accompanied him had disappeared, or did he? Sakumo had no idea.
Finally, Etsu spoke, greeting her guests as a whole this time as her humbling tone echoed lightly off the kitchens walls. Mentioning festival cooking, Sakumo realized why they were here immediately, they practically volunteered to cater the event, without even knowing about it. How clever. Despite smiling and chuckling on the inside, Sakumo's face remained expressionless as the Hokage quickly debriefed the three about the kitchen, its tools and where to find them; as if they were preparing for a mission. In a certain light, I guess thats exactly what they were doing. Surely there would be no payment at this end of this night though, besides praise from the villages leader, a full belly and maybe even some new friendships. The Hokage finally directed the boys to wash their hands and take a seat at each one of the stations. Knowing he was about to get his hands dirty, after washing them of course he would ensure his jacket would not suffer the same consequences, so he decided to remove it revealing his black business shirt in all its glory. With the jacket now in his hands he began folding it with making it perfectly symmetrical as he journeyed back a few more steps into the dining room, placing it over the back of one of the Hokage's exquisite wooden chairs as he came back into the kitchen and walked all the way over to the tap, applying a fair portion of soap before scrubbing them thoroughly under the luke warm water, bringing them up to his face to examine their cleaniness before ripping off some paper towel, drying his hands before placing it in the almost empty bin besides the tap.
Finally making it to the large red marble counter and sitting at the last available station which was to the far right, furthest from the Hokage. Of course, Sakumo was the last to take his seat, which let both the other Genin jump at the opportunity to sit next to the Hokage, but who would blame them, this kind of thing didn't happen often. Before even glancing at the recipe sheet, merely by seeing all the ingredients on display it became apparent to Sakumo exactly what they were going to be making today, something almost everybody loved: rice balls. Sakumo would finally begin to read the recipe, although he already had it down pat knowing the method to rice balls before the night had begun, since he made them at home a lot, his mother taught him how to make the most delightful and delicious rice balls. Sakumo would wait for the Hokage's instructions before handling any of the foods or utensils, and it seemed the other Genin had the same idea in mind.

OOC: I had another whole paragraph, it was in between whats now the first and second paragraphs and it was detailing Sakumo's thoughts to Drew's characters arrival but during the copy and paste to the actual post I accidentally cleared the paragraph and closed the window, losing it. Luckily, it wasn't ultimately important so I'm just going to leave it as it is.

After a few seconds of Shazamaru and the others being in the presence of the Hokage, it seemed that the third and final set of footsteps were coming down the hall right now. The Nara could not wait to see the other genin who will be joining himself and the other genin who was right next to him. It seemed to Shazamaru that the genin next to him was actually part of the Aburame clan, his reason were that the genin seemed to be wearing the signature of all Aburame and that was blocking their eyes from sight by using glasses or goggles. Also he dressed in a very weird manner, this was nothing to do from which clan the boy was from, but it did say something about his personality.
After analyzing the Aburame, he turned his attention to the Hokage. It seemed that she was very kind to others but she would not be a push over. Slowly looking up and down her, it was quite hard to see her physical appearance due to her outfit. According to Shazamaru's knowledge, the Hokage did not have anything to do with his family nor did it seem like that she knew who his family was, it would seem that Shazamaru would have to make bonds to bring them nearer, hopefully making a friendship maybe, it would be a weird one but hopefully work. However Shazamaru did not need to analyze her as much as any other person as many people knew about the Hokage, also everyone knew she was strong or she would not be the top ninja.
This only took a minute of the Nara's time as he could analyze very quickly without having a head ache. Turning to face the second genin coming in, his blue hair lightened the room some how, it was kind of weird but it made sense. Behind the boy, Yimiko came in. Looking back and forth to the Hokage and Yimiko, Shazamaru could see that they were talking, but not out loud by signalling some how. Probably because they have been together for a very long time. By this time Yimiko disappeared and left all three genin. Once Yimiko was gone, the Hokage came back and began to talk about what we will be making, it was rice balls. She then required everyone to wash their hands, Shazamaru walked over to the taps and washed his hands. He then dried his hands with a few paper towels, which he then threw in the bin.
He now turned around, seeing that the Aburame put his robe on a chair and the blue haired kid was waiting to use the taps. Shazamaru began to walk towards the seating area, Shazamaru settled for going in the middle as he always liked sitting in between two people, even if they were boys. Looking down at the piece of paper with the recipe on, this was going to be hard for himself as he had never cooked before. Rolling up his sleeves, he gently scooped his hair to one side, he did not want to get it messy or get food in it. 'Hopefully she will be giving out some sort of protection against the food.

Both Sakumo and Shazamaru made their way to the chairs after they were done washing their hands. They both sat softly and preserved a energy of silence and respect. Although loving the idea of well behaved young men, Etsu didn't want to perpetuate the idea that they were required to be robotic in a sense. But it was still quite early to develop any type of analysis on these boys, so she would save he conclusions towards the end when she got to know them and what they're really about.
"Alright boys lets get started. Today we're making Rice Balls, a lovely shinobi snack eatable under any circumstance whether at a festival or on the field." She laughed, old memories coming back to her. "They are pretty easy to make although can be quite messy sometimes, but nothing we can't handle eh?" She stated with courageous humor. "Okay, so according to our procedure we must first wash the rice, luckily that's already been done." She confirmed, looking at both the young boys filled cups of pearly white rice. She leaned back slightly and looked at both boys simultaneously as she spoke. "So now, we must place the rice in a saucepan with water and bring it to a boil, so the rice can absorb the water." She said while smiling. She was beginning to love this activity, it was nice instructing others on something not fighting related, almost abnormal.
On top of one of the stoves in front of Etsu was a fair sized silver saucepan. Lifting up her left hand, Etsu gently touched the rim of the pan with her index finger and circled it gracefully while tracing it around its edges. At first glance the act would appear quite strange, but within a few seconds something amazing happened. Water began to materialize inside the pan and spin while following the same rhythm of Etsu's finger. This lasted a few seconds until the pan was half way full, then Etsu gently removed her finger, stopping the water flow. She looked at Shazamaru with her eccentric brown eyes, and held up her finger. "Ah Shazamaru, it appears as though I couldn't finish it. Do you think he could help me?" She asked, referring to the pan. The suiton chakra nature was an incredible element to possess and came with a variety of benefits. She sensed that Shazamaru possessed such a talent and decided to test his skill. Conjuring water was a very advanced form of chakra transformation, but somehow, she knew that Shazamaru had the potential to do so.

| Riley moved silently into the room, nerves gripping him into silence for reasons he could not explain. He merely stood in the background as the Hokage explained their reason for being here and what their tasks were. With the annual festival upon them the Hokage had chosen them to be chefs for the event, and they were currently going to prepare some simple rice balls. This was likely a warm up exercise, Riley thought as the other two genin moved towards the sinks to clean. He had no idea who the two of them were as no one really had time to introduce themselves nor looked particularly interested in doing so. All Riley could do was study the emblems they displayed on their clothing to make the assumptions of their heritage. It was rather easy for him to identify one at least, bearing the Nara clan's symbol upon his self. The Nara were one of the more well known clans within the village, far more so than his own.
The Nara boy then went off to begin preparing his portions of the food while Riley approached the sink. Rolling up his long sleeves to his elbows, he turned on the water and cleaned his hands. Wiping dry with a handful of paper towels before disposing of them and taking his spot at the table. In front of him were several measuring cups filled with rice, the Hokage confirming they had been pre-washed. The next step was to boil the rice until the water was completely absorbed. Overall, Riley knew how to make rice balls, as well as various other foods. It was taught almost to the extent that he was trained as a shinobi in his clan. Due to their unnaturally high metabolism rates, they ate far more than the average person and as such, needed to know how to take care of themselves from a very early age.
The Hokage then approached the nearest stove to herself and began tracing one of the pots with her finger. Riley couldn't see what was happening from his angle, but she then called out for someone named Shazamaru while looking towards the Nara with a gentle expression. "Shazamaru huh, well that's one of them identified now". Riley thought to himself as he took his measuring cup over to the sink where he washed his hands. Setting them on the counter, he reached over to the nearby stove, taking the empty pot there and setting it on the opposite side of the counter to the rice. Emptying the cups into the pot, he then took one, now empty cup, and filled it twice to the two cup mark and once more to the 1/2 cup mark. Emptying the water each time into the pot and then carrying it over to the stove. Placing it on one of the elements and turning it up to high before taking his seat and observing what the others were doing.

Shazamaru did not stare but he did notice that the blue haired boy was quite slow at reacting to things, it was either he was mentally slow which hopefully wasn't the case or he was just analyzing everything he could see. After a few moments of the boy not moving, he finally went over to the sink and washed his hands. This was a relief to Shazamaru as it means that the boy actually wasnt petrified from the site of the Hokage and also being in her kitchen. Now looking at the bowl of rice, he cupped it up and began to rotate it so the rice was moving around a bit. As soon as the Hokage began to speak, Shazamaru placed his bowl back on his counter and began to listen to the Hokage. She told the boys that the rice was already pre-washed so the genin didn't have to do anything to them, this was a relief to Shazamaru as he would probably mess it up some how. The Hokage spoke out what the genin would have to do, time to come.
Shazamaru didn't move his eye sight of the Hokage one bit as he wanted to see everything she was doing so he did not mess up the rice balls. She then circled her finger around a saucepan which it then filled up with water, seeing this Shazamaru's eyes widened as he may be able to do this some time, this also identified the Hokage as a Suiton user. This was good for Shazamaru as he did have some connection with the Hokage now and maybe he could build on this someday, maybe training. The saucepan was only half full of water and the Hokage asked Shazamaru if he could fill the rest up. Nodding at her, he spinned 90 degrees on his chair then got up. Walking around so he was now next to the Hokage, he touched his finger on the edge of the sauce pan and put his chakra affinity into his finger.
Circling his finger around the saucepan on the edge, water began to appear but it was no way near the amount that the Hokage could make. Still wanting to impress her, he continued circling his finger on the edge. The water was building up bit by bit and it was quite good for his first time doing such a thing, after a few seconds the water was coming out quickly. A few more seconds and the water was now at the top, he quickly removed his finger and the water stopped. He smiled at the Hokage and began to walk back to his seat . |

Once all the boys were seated the Hokage began as she spoke with a warm and inviting tone. Sakumo knew what to do and although he listened to his superior talk, he wasted no time in getting started. He hadn't wasted time in watching what his associates were doing, he immediately got to work placing a large quantity of rice into his saucespan as the water began to boil, stirring it occassionally to ensure that all the rice was absorbing the water and getting cooked to perfection. Finally the Genin would reduce the heat which would allow the rice to simmer. Knowing he had some time to do what he pleased during this process, he decided to move back to his desk as the Hokage had mentioned somebodys name, Shazamaru. Turning his head to see who the Hokage was addressing, Sakumo watched the Nara move to the Nidaime. Sakumo had a full name now, and from what he witnessed next he could tell that the latter was a Suiton user much like the Hokage herself.
Sakumo quickly swivelled back in his chair so he was once again facing the marble bench, reaching to his back pocket he flicked his journal out of his pocket and moved it to his front, placing it down to the table as he pushed the end of his pen causing the tip to reveal itself as he pressed it upon a fresh page, he began writing down the boys name, Shazamaru Nara followed by what details he had collected so far, such as the fact that he was a water user and what vibe the Aburame had gotten about the Nara's personality. With pen still pushed up against paper, he looked over to the third Genin who hadn't really stood out as of yet, in fact he hadn't even opened his mouth. Tricky, Sakumo had nothing on this boy yet. The Aburame latter wasn't one to get physical for no reason but for some reason he wanted to see what this boy was capable of. Knowing Shazamaru was a Nara wasn't nearly as intriguing, he already had predicted how he would strategize himself in battle and what techniques he'd use. But this blue-haired boy that Sakumo knew nothing about as of it was going to be the real puzzle. As his sunglasses slipped from his nose once more, Sakumo readjusted them as he fixated himself back onto his writing, finishing up what notes he had for now before tucking it back into his back pocket. After this he'd get back up to check on his rice to ensure it was undergoing the correct processes and the water wasn't too hot, he had to make sure it would all be absorbed after all.

| Shazamaru's reaction was rather apprehensive after being placed onto the spot by the Lady Hokage herself. During the few second interval it took for him to react, Etsu had already read his face and every extremity he bared between the thousands of pores it took to craft his lovely face. He showed the faintest sign of worry which was good, it showed that he had confidence in his abilities which was quite an admirable trait within a Genin. Many of Etsu's peers which mostly consisted of council members and ANBU have the stereotypical mentality that today's youth is lacking honorable substance which is a pretty bold statement after a war. However Etsu has always refuted that idea, stating that todays youngsters are really the most talented bunch she'd seen in years. So as she looked upon the faces of these three young men, she could see that talent lied behind him, and for that, all she could do was smile with her womanly charm.
Shazamaru rotated in his chair and hopped down onto the floor. The leather of the chairs slightly squeaked by the friction of his pants and was finished by the clumping sound of his footwear. Shazamaru steadily made his way around the table until he was standing next to Etsu. Now that he was within that close proximity, Etsu could now distinguish a faint scent of deer from the ingredients on the table. It was quite a strange scent actually, like the mixture of musk, grass, and soap water probably from when Shazamaru showered after his deer tending duties perhaps. However scent is more powerful than many people tend to notice, and a shinobi with ANBU training such as Etsu could probably smell odors a few degrees below that of a canine.
Shazamaru placed his finger on the rim of the pot and performed the same procedure as Etsu. He circled the pot in a few revolutions until the product was finally produced. Etsu paid keen attention to his finger and chakra. Although she wasn't a talented sensor like the few shinobi she'd come across within her lifetime, she did have some skill in the art. She could sense Shazamaru's chakra liquify as he edged the pot, and soon after water began to accumulate within it. Although not as 'smooth' as Etsu's, his was actually quite good considering that this was possibly was his first time. Most Genin would need at least three weeks of intense training to manifest water, yet he'd done it within three seconds. Etsu looked at him was a look of surprise and honor and watched as he made his way back to his seat. "Impressive," she thought while reverting her attention back to her other guests.
It appeared as though both young men had already started boiling their rice while Etsu was occupied with Shazamaru. "Haha, it seems as though these guys got the hang of it." She thought while giggling a single note into the quiet atmosphere. As she leaned forward she peered into the pots while remaining a safe distance from the steam. Both Sakumo's and Riley's pots looked excellent although boiling rice was pretty easy process to those who knew what they were doing. "Haha you guys are pretty quick, I hope you guys don't mind me catch up," she verbalized in a innocent tone. With lighting speed she flickered across the counter next to Shazamaru and rested her hand on his shoulder. She leaned in a picked up a unused cup a rice infront of him and smiled at Shazamaru face-to-face. "I hope you don't mind." She teased while flickering back over the counter. She splashed the rice within the pot of conjured water and formed a tiger seal with her hands. "Time to speed it up, now for some katon." She said as she inhaled. She released three marble-sized fireballs from her mouth where each landed right into the three pots of rice. This in turn caused the water to begin boiling and as a result the rice started to absorb the water quicker. Within a few seconds the rice would be done, and Etsu also wanted to ask a question which she thought was important. She waited after Sakumo was done writing in his journal which she just caught him doing after she boiled the water. She eyed him peculiarly but shrugged off the random Aburame weirdness, the same thing that got her interested in this young man's father.. sigh.
"So, can anyone tell me in what ways have you helped rebuild Konoha?" She asked with a mysterious tone within her voice.

| Riley leaned back in his chair slightly, rotating a bit on the spot as he waited on his rice. The sound of the boiling water filled the room as his and the other unnamed genin's pots gradually heated the water within. Swiveling himself over, he watched as the Hokage and Shazamaru stood over their pot. Shazamaru repeating the same action that he had seen the Hokage doing earlier. Though he still had no idea what it was, and did not have time to analyze it as Shazamaru completed whatever it was almost immediately and headed back to his seat. It was at this time that Riley glanced over to his left and saw the third genin starting at him. It was a strange feeling, for even though he wore dark shades, he could tell his eyes were locked on him.
Acting like he payed it no mind, Riley merely closed his eyes and lowered his head into a resting position. On the inside though, nothing could be described as calm. He could feel himself tensing up from nerves, thoughts buzzing about in his mind faster than he could comprehend them. "Who is this guy?" "Why is he glaring at me?" "I better check the rice soon" "What's with the book?" "Why was I invited here again?" "My back itches". The air felt so tense that he nearly jumped when the Hokage suddenly spoke. "Haha you guys are pretty quick, I hope you guys don't mind me catch up," she said. At her words, Riley got up from his seat and began to cross the kitchen floor as she continued speaking. Her words falling on mostly deaf ears, save for the last word she said. "...katon"
"-wait what?" Riley was barely able to say as he turned just in time to see a ball of fire blasted in his direction. With a shriek and a leap backwards, the fireball just passed by him, landing in his pot and for all intents and purposes, ignited his rice. The water almost instantly was absorbed by the rice as Riley stood shaking on the spot. "I-I-I don't think.. that's how that's supposed... to work" he stuttered, the intense heat of the flame could still be felt as a line across his stomach where the fireball had passed by but centimeters.
Still shaking, he heard the Hokage continue to speak after a few short moments. "So, can anyone tell me in what ways have you helped rebuild Konoha?". Turning slowly to be sure he would not be on the wrong end of any more... "cooking" techniques, Riley managed to stutter out "W-well.. I've helped my father... w-with the transportation of lumber and some general construction work... but that's about it..." |

After doing the little training with the Hokage, Shazamaru watched Sakumo swivel in his chair and start writing in a journal. He didn't know what it was but it might of been something to do with cooking as this was a cooking lesson, well for Shazamaru it was a lesson. Looking at each of his classmates saucepans and they already filled their's with water and put their rice into it. Now Shazamaru looked quite stupid as he did not know what to do. All he could think to do was copy them, so again looking to his left then his right, he began to copy the two genin in what they did. Obviously he had to fill his saucepan with water, so doing what the Hokage taught him to do, he circled the rim of the pan over and over until it was full with water. This didn't take very long as he had already has some practice with chakra controlling already.
Looking around again, he new he would have to put the rice into the saucepan. Reaching for the rice a hand was on his back, then the Hokage said something to Shazamaru which he didn't quite catch. But never the less, the Hokage took his cup of rice. Then she appeared by he counter, in shock Shazamaru's hand was still there reaching out to the location where the cup once was. He then looked up at the Hokage, it seemed as though she was going to speed up the lesson "umm..." he said while looking around the room in need of more rice for his own saucepan.
The Hokage then asked a question to all of the genin, Shazamaru looked up to her and listened the the blue haired male next to him answer. After he answered, Shazamaru went started to speak of how he was helping Konoha re-build "Well ive helped a civilian set up a wall type thing, that was it really but hopefully it will help with Konoha" after saying his words he looked around for more rice which was not in sight. |

| BALLAD OF A DEAD MAN
It didn't take long for the social banter to begin, even if it was just to break the ice. Of course the person to do so would be none other than the Hokage, her friendly tone however wasn't as apparent as it had been with previous words, her question seemed suspicious, but only because of the way she said it, almost with some form of lingering hostility. But that really make sense in Sakumo's mind. What Etsu wanted to know, was how each of the boys had helped rebuild Konohagakure no Sato so far. Only a few seconds transpired before the first latter went to speak, and it certainly wasn't Sakumo, nor was it Shazamaru. It was still the nameless blue-haired shinobi who was distant from Sakumo still. As the boy began to answer, Sakumo opened his ears to the boys words, absorbing every last one of them, since the Aburame was still checking and proceeding with the cooking methods of his rice, he quickly scurried back to his seat and flicked out his book just as the boy had finished his sentence. It took the boy a while to finish his sentence, since Sakumo hadn't looked at the boy as he spoke he could only listen and from what the shaded shinobi of the Aburame clan come to notice was some sort of slow stutter in the boys soft voice. Thinking the boy might have had some sort of speech impediment was of course Sakumo's first guess but once he made it to his seat and glanced at the boy once more, he could almost see the nerves dripping from the boys expression. He seemed to be quite socially awkward so perhaps he was just intimidated with the company, or perhaps Sakumo's first assumption was correct, he did not know. All he knew is what assessments, vibes and words he got from the latter was going straight into his journal, which Sakumo whipped back out effortlessly as he flicked back to his page and filled it with more information.
It would be made clear to those in the room that Sakumo wasn't willing to speak yet which allowed Shazamaru to make the assumption that he'd be free to talk next, which he took advantage of without wasting any time, though as Sakumo shot him a quick look from behind his sunglasses it seemed the Nara was still more interested in cooking than participating in the social side of this rare honour of being invited to the Hokage's residence. Much like what he had done with the boy beforehand, Sakumo wrote down what Shazamaru had said, though he didn't really specify on what he exactly helped with. Both the Genin had spoken however, which meant it only left Sakumo. Closing his page and leaving it on the desk as he folded his hands over the black leather cover, his pen still being firmly grasping in amongst the neat stack of the boys phalanges. Taking in everything he had heard, the boys accolades weren't all that great, though it was still great that they were working to rebuild the leaf village none the less, even in the short time they had to accomplish what they already had, Sakumo wasn't one to show boat. He considered answering the Hokage's question in full, but his instinct kicked in. "I'm not one to brag about my exploits or accomplishments." His voice showed no signs of emotion, it was as boring and mono-toned as it could possibly be. His head dropped as he looked down to his lap, waiting to hear what the Hokage had to say to Sakumo, or the boys as a whole; hoping he wouldn't be scolded for his lack of a genuine response.

| After asking her sincere question to the boys, Lady Etsu looked at each one of them with a hidden flame burning through her piercing eyes. Although she wasn't so interested in the personal affairs of the boys her ponderous nature towards the youth probably gotten the best of her, heck it did save her life many years ago. However was she to blame if they probably took it the wrong way? The question wasn't too out of line, especially coming from the Hokage in regards to the village's affairs. However when looking at the boys she sensed some meager hesitation emanating from their youthful auras. The oral muscles of Riley flexed under his skin which Etsu was capable of noticing, he would be the first to speak she assumed. She wondered what kind of labor he performed to aid the village, strangely she could picture him leading others and getting some work done with his unique kind of energy. "W-well.. I've helped my father... w-with the transportation of lumber and some general construction work... but that's about it...". He voiced in a low and innocent tone. Etsu smiled at his response and looked off towards the ceiling as a quick vision crossed her mind. "Hmm, a parent and a child working together and bonding, that brings back memories," she thought. She remembered a few weeks ago a mother and a daughter hosted a charity event in western Konoha that gave food and clothing for young orphans who lost their parents in the war. Etsu thought it was good for children to learn from their parents and work with them, because at any moment they could be gone forever, and she knew all to well of that.
Due to the natural flow of the table, Etsu figured the sweet Shazamaru would be the next to speak. Frankly she didn't see him as the type to do very much given his laid back nature, but she wasn't the one to judge so quickly. "Well ive helped a civilian set up a wall type thing, that was it really but hopefully it will help with Konoha". He voiced in what Etsu perceived as a skeptical tone. She wished he would have elaborated more on this "wall type thing" he spoke of, but she prayed that he wasn't referring to the village gate. "Hm, cool." She responded under her breath while looking at him more strikingly. It seemed as though from his bobbing head gestures that he was looking for more rice which Etsu snagged from him a few moments ago. However he ought not to worry, they both will split the rice and make balls out of them none the less.
She then looked at Sakumo whom she caught squabbling in his notebook quite often when the others spoke. The energy of the room became deathly silent as the focus was redirected to the mysterious young genin who sat before them. However as eery as his presence was and how he illustrated himself in both his notebook and to other people, Etsu still had good feelings about him. If his personality was anything like his father then he would either create a sarcastic answer to her question or not answer it at all. After little wait he did answer, and her ears became lucrative to his response. "I'm not one to brag about my exploits or accomplishments." He stated. Etsu's face was equally emotionless as his, she was half-expecting that response. "Fair enough," she said, shrugging off his statement. "Thank you all for sharing that with me, it makes me good to know that my villagers actually care about their home." She said passionately while putting a hand over her heart. She looked down at the pot and saw that the rice done, her flames had did the trick.
As the rice cooked for a few minutes she engaged in some friendly small talk with the boys. She spoke about her many exhibitions across the seas with her teams, and some battles she encountered with some of the most fearsome of enemies. She spoke with much enthusiasm and animation which she hoped her Genin would appreciate, learning to be motherly and kind was something new to her. After the rice cooled she requested the boys to come get their pots. "-Alright everyone, the rice has cooled and it's time to start crafting! Come get your pots and place them beside your trays." She said while stepping back to give them room.

| Riley stood in nervous silence after he spoke, the Hokage's reaction only serving to put him more on edge. He recieved no vocal or physical reaction to his words. Merely, she simply looked up to the ceiling for a moment before turning her head towards Shazamaru as he began to speak. However, Riley's focus was quickly snapped away from the two as he heard the sound of pen scribbling on paper. Glancing his eyes over while keeping himself stationary, he saw the other genin writing down on the paper with almost furious speed, as though he was trying to keep up with what was going on at the moment. Riley couldn't help but feel that the guy had been writing about himself within that little notebook.
Before he knew it, Shazamaru had finished speaking and the genin placed his notebook down and spoke. "I'm not one to brag about my exploits or accomplishments." He said as Riley fought back a bit of a scowl. "It's not bragging... you're being asked to report..." he thought to himself. However the Hokage did not seem to take this personally as she simply accepted this and moved on.
"Thank you all for sharing that with me, it makes me good to know that my villagers actually care about their home." She said before checking the rice. It seemed her fire had done the trick and the rice was doen far faster than it should have been. Riley turned to his rice, turned off the stove and moved the pot to a cold burner for it to cool. The Hokage, after doing a similar task, began to entertain the three genin with stories of her exploits. It was short and quite the abridged version, but what it did do was help Riley to relax. Ever since he entered the place he had the sneaking suspicion that this may have been some sort of stealth exam or something, but it seemed that it was what it was. There seemed to be no underlaying scheme and the Hokage herself, did not have as an intimidating presence as he thought she may have.
"-Alright everyone, the rice has cooled and it's time to start crafting! Come get your pots and place them beside your trays." The Hokage said as she cut off the more recent era in her story. Riley quickly grabbed his pot and with a quick spin, brought it back over to the table and placed it beside his tray. Looking into the pot, Riley couldn't help but feel a little underwhelmed. He had a hard time remembering that many people couldn't eat as much as him and the portions given within the clan quarters were far larger than those of normal people in the village. None-the-less, he couldn't get over the feeling that there just wasn't anything there. He went back to the sink to rinse his hands one extra time before returning and getting to work.
He took a spoon and began taking out large scoops of rice, placing them into four piles on the tray, then quickly split those in half creating eight small piles of rice. Using the knuckle of his index finger, he pressed into the tops of the rice until he made similar sized, small indentations in all of them. He then took a small spoon and filled the indentations with some bonito flakes that he found on the table nearby and proceeded to press the piles into a triangular shape. When he was done, the rice balls, while looking more like lumps then their typical triangular shape, were all but done. He applied the nori to each one as best he could and topped it off with some sesame seeds and arranged them in a line upon his tray. Afterwards, taking a seat and looking to the others to see how they were progressing. |

| Catching a glimpse of the Aburame who stopped cooking and turned around, Shazamaru stared at him, he could see that he was writing in a book that he recently got out before. From his dictating skills he knew that it was some sort of thing that the Aburame would do to know more about his fellow shinobi, Shazamaru knew this as he would only bring it out when Shazamaru or the other genin spoke. But he could be wrong at this point as they were also cooking, so the Aburame could be writing down step by step of how to do the recipe, maybe it was a friend as it seemed the Aburame knew what he was doing without any help. Still looking for more rice, he heard the Aburame speak that he did not boast of how he helped the country, Shazamaru thought this was quite rude as it is not boasting if you are doing something good for your country, but meh.
The Hokage then answered everyone back, it seemed that the Hokage wasn't very bothered with what Shazamaru did to help the village, he could sense this through the words she used. They weren't very enthusiastic, but all is well as he should be helping with the village more often. All he had to do was be in the right place at the right time. Shazamaru gave up with looking for rice, this was around the time that she began to talk about some tales or hers, they were quite interesting to hear. Maybe Shazamaru will make his own tales. Hopefully the Hokage would probably split the rice she has with him, after a while sitting doing nothing the Hokage told everyone to get pots, Shazamaru didn't know why, but obviously he had never made rice balls before but after this he might just start to make them more often. Maybe set up his own stall where he sells rice balls for some extra cash, it would pay for his weaponry he needed.
Looking to the left of him, he saw that the blue haired boy already grabbed his pot and was doing something with the rice. Shazamaru did not catch his name, leaning over he whispered "Hey whats your name, im Shazamaru" he said with a slight smile before leaning back over so he was now centered. Grabbing his pot, he looked inside, it was very nicely made inside but a little plain on the outside. But then again the Hokage probably doesn't want anyone to break he expensive pots, as they are probably one of a kind and brought from all around the world. After his analysis was done he sat there with his hand on the table ready for the next task, which hopefully he would join in with. |
