YANAGI, KATAMUKI  ken NAOKI.

THE INFO.

Name: Yanagi, Katamuki ken Naoki, 柳、曲がっ県直樹; Willow, Twisted and Straight.
Nickname: Often referring to one another as Kata, カタ, or Nao, 奈緒, the two brothers only named themselves once their personalities fully developed. At this stage, they felt it was important for their verbal identities to encompass their distinct characterizations and took on opposing roles of their original name, Yanagi. Generally, these different names are only used between the twins as an opposing party or a bystander cannot distinct which sibling is in control of the body as they interchange regularly, and in most cases, multiple times in one discussion.

Ni Feisu, 複数の顔; translating roughly to ‘Multiple Faces,’ it is a rather self-explanatory title for Yanagi as he comprises of two separate people inhabiting one body. Each sibling is capable of directing their form and can switch who is in control easily and without delay. In addition to their ability to regulate who’s in charge, Yanagi is also capable of splitting into two entirely separate, but identical looking entities, which has allowed his nickname to be fully embodied.
Age: twenty-seven, 二十七.
Gender: male, .
Appearance:
Like many descriptions of handsome, stunningly attractive males, Yanagi looks fall so easily into this category. In possession of an obnoxiously coloured mop of hair that is apparently going extinct, the just-shy-of-fire-hydrant red glistens beautifully in the sunlight in ways that can only be described in medieval sonnets. Like a glowing flame of hope, these gorgeous locks fall forward to obscure his eyes from the horrors of the world and caress the back of his neck comfortingly when the wind decides to blow his blissful ignorance away. Not exactly one to carry a brush, the young man controls his mane by placing a dead carcass or more specifically, the skull of a large fox on his head. This skull, which has lovingly been dubbed ‘Sophia’, is often positioned differently in accordance with his moods. More often than not, he wears the skull backwards upon his head like a baseball cap, but when feeling particularly professional, he’ll turn it around and face it forward as it is important to be well put-together when partaking in a business setting.

Like his glorious hair, Yanagi’s eyes are bright red and fringed by feminine eye lashes that he often complains over as they ruin his masculine image. His face is oval in shape, with somewhat distinctive features, but nothing that stands out to the extent that it is worth mentioning. On top of his right eye, the chūnin sports an intricate tribal tattoo that he doesn’t necessarily have an explanation for, other than the fact that Kata really felt like they needed to make their ‘pretty boy eyes’ more masculine. He feels like it was worth it, but in many instances, Nao often reprimands his brother for making some a callous decision, but considering that it can’t be removed, he does not allow himself to become aggravated over it, especially since his brother is filling up the rest of their body with tattoos for fuuinjutsu.

Structure-wise, Yanagi stands at six feet two inches, with as much muscle definition as he’s ever going to get in his life – which isn’t saying much. Considering that he is named after a willow tree, the chūnin feels like his name befits his body structure perfectly. Lean and tall, it is not easy to see the underlying muscles that protect his tendons, bones and ligaments without actually taking the time to cop a feel. That does not mean that they are not there, however, and Yanagi prides himself on treating his body like a personal temple, taking care of it well, especially since it hosts two parties.

In regards to his apparel, the redhead has some staples in his uniform and other aspects that change regularly. Generally, he can be seen sporting a black, short sleeve mesh shirt tucked into black shinobi pants that cut off mid-calf. Worried about exposing his ankles to preying men and women alike, he binds the remainder of his legs in bandages that dip into steel-toed ankle boots. The boots are leather in structure, protecting his feet easily and providing a powerful addition to his kicks when taken. It can be stated that they are heavier due to the metal implanted in them, but the shinobi barely notices it as his body is trained to carry the extra weight for long periods of time. Yanagi also normally wears a sleek looking pair of black gloves that tamper off just before his wrist and are adorned with metal knuckles that simply glisten in the sunlight, like many aspects of his personality. These gloves are worn at all times as Naoki’s fixation with cleanliness does not allow him to function without them; the phrase “there is no way in hell that I’m touching that” a catch-phrase of his when regarding ninety-eight percent of everything in his vicinity.

The articles of clothing that differ for him are the jackets and vests that he throws over his top, or the heavily embroidered scarves that he wears around his neck. Partial to leather for his jackets, his selection of colour varies through the earthy tones of green and brown, to the absence or full presence of colour, which is also known as black and white. There is nothing particularly special about these, but they are usually worn when he is around the village, vacationing, or undercover as the leather is somewhat restrictive. Thus, when he is partaking in a mission or security position, the shinobi chooses a lighter fabric choice that is flame retardant and also differs in colour. These jackets are generally cut like sports jackets or blazers with seemingly endless zippers, but there are a few that are in possession of high collars as well.

In addition to his altering jackets and scarves, Yanagi also wears a long chained pendant made from jade as its representation of protection and love are positive omens that the boys wish to embody for each other.

Forehead Protector: Detesting the feel of an additional head accessory, Yanagi displays the symbol of his loyalty on  large scarves that are wrapped around his neck. These alter in colour with whatever else he may be wearing, but the embroidered symbol of his dedication to Kumogakure remains clearly detailed for the shinobi world to see. This sign is generally positioned more towards the left side of his face, rather than centered.

Personality:
Overall
The presence of two individuals in one body is often misinterpreted as some type of multiple-personality disorder. In the case of Yanagi, the existence of two minds is real, and it plays a large role in how he interacts with the general population. As the two siblings are quite different, their opinions rarely match which can result in many moments where they can have full conversations out loud with themselves. This can be very confusing for others that are participating in the conversation, but fortunately, the difference in control can be distinguished by the alternating voices that occur when they switch. Katamuki, the Twisted, has a tendency to speak with a lazy drawl and a flurry of vulgarity that could put the traditional sailor to shame. His tone is similar to a tenor voice and his laugh is one that is loud and sometimes perturbing as it usually occurs prior to a poor bystander being caught in his mischief. Naoki on the other hand, is naturally quieter as a speaker, and has a tendency to be more objective than his twin. His tone sits on a higher octave, which Katamuki calls womanly, but it has smooth alto notes. These distinctions are important for onlookers as it portrays who the current speaker, and more importantly, thinker, is that people are dealing with.

Although incredibly different, the twins have the same basis for morals. Both are strong advocate for one’s loyalty to their village, and they appreciate and strive for jobs to be completed to their greatest capability. The boys are never one to take the easy route out of anything, and although they approach confrontation differently – mainly Kata with his fists and a witty line, and Nao with a firm reprimand and logic – the siblings are unafraid of it. As long as the chaos that confrontation can create is used in a positive manner to restore peace, they will willingly throw the first punch if need be. This dedication to peace can seem somewhat misplaced when dealing with Kata as he loves the misery of others, but it can be understood by how much he values his own brother’s happiness. The more docile of the two, Nao is the only person Kata remotely cares for, so getting people to hold hands and sing Kum Ba Ya around a campfire so his twin will be content, sees like a worthy sacrifice.

When experiencing the two for the first time, it can be somewhat off-putting to anyone. Generally, because the switches are so quick, their mannerisms do not usually change which is a comfort, but the quick firing opinions can be hard to deal with; especially if someone does not know of the twins’ condition. Conversation with them tends to be fast-paced and intelligent, considering there are two people thinking at once, but where the boys shine is strategic planning. Since there are two entirely different personalities combatting in the same mind, they easily find the flaws or chinks in their sibling’s figurative armour when constructing plans or strategies. This ability to see the faults in each other makes them a great ally and associate for their generals or leaders.

Naoki is the secondary personality to his brother. Unless he feels like it is necessary to appear, he prefers to reside within the depths of their body and let Katamuki take control. His brother is naturally more aggressive and opinionated, so Nao prefers to remain as the calm and rational presence in their shared living quarters. They can argue frequently if a disagreement erupts and the brothers have been known to separate completely in order to add injury to insult. For Kata, Naoki is his obvious weakness and were he to ever lose his brother; he has no doubt that immediate insanity and need for revenge would be the only result. Nao, on the other hand, is more mentally sound, so although losing his twin would be devastating, he would be capable of continuing on with life, albeit with a more cynical outlook of it.

Kata
The primary twin, there is no ‘inner Katamuki’ that is kind and gentle, selfless or self-sacrificing. He is what he appears to be – an easy-going fellow that has an inclination to flirt with anything that moves and to be an utter jack-ass when it suits him; which is twenty-four seven. If there is anything about his personality that is misleading, then it is the fact that he thinks people are even less important than what he makes them appear as outwardly. He is every bit as conniving as a villain and enjoys being that way, which is the total opposite of his angelic brother.

Aside from the fact that he is a complete jack-ass, Kata is also very sarcastic. His humour comes off as both demeaning and honest to the point that people aren’t often sure if he is insulting them or merely joking. He enjoys confusing those around him, a permanent, condescending twist of the lips present whenever he speaks, hinting at the nasty personality that resides beneath the surface. As a calculating individual, Kata hides his cynical view of the world behind veiled insults and condescending sarcasm as he knows how important it is to network oneself successfully. For him to succeed and come out on the winning side he must play the game, thus, he curbs his tongue and reins in his humour and behaviour, so that in some ways, he’s merely boding his time.

Kata may not be as intelligent as his counterpart, but he is nowhere near an idiot. When it comes to battling, he’s an aggressive player, preferring to take the offensive while allowing his brother to cover for him. Like he is in his day to day encounters, Kata enjoys playing with people, mentally and physically, so banter is often present while he combats. Considering his large ego, it does not seem unbelievable, however, this ego does not stem from the belief that his intelligence or skill cannot be contested, but rather, it comes from his acceptance that it can. He isn’t prideful as an individual, knowing that sometimes if one wants something, then they need to be willing to scrap shit off of another’s shoe if that’s what it takes. Thus, he does not view any action beneath him, and he has no qualms with cheating or blackmailing in order to win. He is the competitive twin, valuing the concept of winning, regardless of how it comes about. He needs to get the final word in, even if it is an over the shoulder comment about another’s mother; which aggravates Naoki’s god-like complex of transcending situations and ‘being the better person.’ What utter bullshit.

Respect only rises within him if the person can challenge him intelligently. He enjoys great banter and those that possess self-deprecating wit. Katamuki doesn’t really count many people as his friends, but sees most in terms of those that are useful to him and those that aren’t, which opposes his brother’s polite demeanour and apparent acceptance of all their ‘colleagues.’ He finds the concept of respect being automatically earned ridiculous and he often spends time testing the waters with new recruits or people so that he can be better acquainted with their weak spots; one never knows when they may come in handy after all.

Naoki
Compared to Kata, Naoki could easily be described as a wimp. If his brother was depicted as fire; a warm, flicker of energy that could set a room ablaze in the quickest of moments, then Nao would be the cooling remains of the inferno his twin created previously. Compared to Katamuki’s personality, every aspect of Naoki seems to be underwhelming. Never one to be driven by his emotions, he is more rational and logical than his counterpart. He doesn’t really strive for attention, and although courteous to everyone around him, Nao seems to have some form of social anxiety. Generally, interacting socially with his peers, students, or leaders makes the younger twin tense and unsure, as simple conversation seems to be something he had never really grasped. This awkwardness with others does not extend into his profession as a shinobi, however. When Naoki is given a specific purpose such as answering questions or completely a specific task, he’ll willingly take the primary role on as those are areas of structure and surety. The moment that they are over, however, he immediately reverts back into the secondary position, finding solace in the shelter of his brother’s personality.

Naoki’s social anxiety is the primary reason that Kata does not have to battle for supremacy when it comes to their shared body. They both have the understanding that in specific scenarios, the other is stronger and thus, pushes them to take on their appropriate roles. Nao is secretly grateful to his twin as he understands how much crap Kata puts up with to protect his awkwardness and sensitivity when taking the primary role, and he values the fact that his brother values him. No, this does not mean that he is overly sentimental when it comes to his family, it is merely a statement to show that Naoki is not oblivious to his brother’s way of portraying his love to him.

Aside from his awkward tendencies, Nao is the angelic presence in their shared body. Even though he is somewhat detached from his emotions, which is why he’s no good in social events (we’ve come full circle), the man is very good at reading scenarios objectively to come up with the best solution possible. He likes to think about every potential avenue, viewing the world in percentages and likelihoods of occurrences. Paired with his incredibly careful nature, and one creates a hermit that lives vicariously through his partner.

What Naoki loves about their partnership is the fact that he can study people in their habitat endlessly and without disturbance. Very few are privy to their shared body as they don’t exactly promote or market their capability, so they are generally seen as schizophrenic - which is fine to Naoki. Like his brother, he cannot be bothered by other’s opinions as it would waste unnecessary energy to attempt to obscure their biased and naïve views. Regardless of what they think, the man enjoys watching how they interact regularly, or how they act to a seemingly mentally unstable man. Both are fascinating.

Unlike Kata, who primarily interacts with people just for shits and giggles, Nao cares deeply for people and his village. Of the two, he is more patriotic and strives for the safety of his home. If there was ever a moment that he would lay down his life, aside of for his brother, it would be to protect his current Raikage, a man that he deeply respects. This is not to say that he is self-sacrificing, Nao figures that twenty three percent of those heroic deaths or exiles do not actually result in anything productive, but he feels that there are certain individuals that are good for the world and hold more value than himself. Naoki strives for a better tomorrow and can only sacrifice what he can to obtain that goal.

Elemental Affinities: Raiton,, ken Doton, .
Combat Style:
Yanagi’s fighting style is a combination of close-quarters combat and surprise hits. As their Kekkei Genkai allows them to disperse or return to one another as they please, they primarily begin their tactics with taijutsu to test the waters with their opinion. As per usual, Kata will take point as he is the more aggressive of the two, and Nao will wait on the sidelines for any opportunity to jump in. If they are capable of disarming their opponent by merely using their fists, basic weaponry, and surprise hits by the sudden appearance of additional appendages, the twins won’t bother incorporating jutsu in. However, if they find that they are not being successful in their attempt, they will split completely and become two bodies. More often than not, this maneuver is done secretly or in the midst of creating clones so the new body seamlessly fits into the fray and does not appear too suspicious.

Kata as stated before, is the aggressor. His sole purpose in a battle is to attack and disarm his opponent. He has explosive and powerful attacks, while his brother resorts to small jutsu that are really just distraction techniques. Nao also focuses solely on support for his counterpart. In order for Kata to focus on his attacks and the best course of action, he does not worry about protecting his back, which means that it falls under his brother’s jurisdiction. Naoki works more mid-range than Kata and always attempts to plan their strategy out once he observes their opponent. Generally, the younger twin blends in with the clones, which is the perfect cover for him in case a surprise attack is in order.

Thus, in short, like everything they do, the brothers fight as a duo and cover one another’s weaknesses.

Yanagi, Katamuki ken Naoki [Kumogakure Chūnin] Vide
PostSubject: Re: Yanagi, Katamuki ken Naoki [Kumogakure Chūnin] Yanagi, Katamuki ken Naoki [Kumogakure Chūnin] EmptyMon 05 Aug 2013, 5:03 pm

THE BACKGROUND.

History:
Childhood
Yanagi was borne into a middle-class family. Their father was a renowned blacksmith and their mother was an assistant at the only bakery in their small village. They lived on a small farm just outside of where his mother worked, and his father opened his work shop there. It was a modest building with traditional technology, but Yanagi’s father was talented and utilized what they had well in order to provide for their family.

Immediately when Yanagi began having the ability to think clearly so that he could start forming his own opinions, he knew something was wrong when two garbled explanations for different thoughts obscured his mind. It was like a constant argument going on in his head, scaring the young boy into wondering what was wrong with him. The battling ideas weighed on his brain, and he often felt himself suffering headaches from the seemingly never-ending argument. Not knowing how to deal with it mentally, the boy found some release in verbalizing the opposing views out loud, but these whispered retorts and snarky comments that he spoke to himself with, soon attracted his mother’s attention and her utter dismay with her child’s mental disorder.

Fearing what the other villagers would think of him, his parents decided that it would be best for him to be educated at home, as he would not be surrounded by the negative stigma of mental diseases. His mother willingly gave up her career so that she could better take care of him, spending endless hours attempting to better understand her child’s problem. The issue with isolating him from others was that it hindered his ability to be social. Not being able to practice speaking with children his own age, or even other adults aside from his relatively well-learned parents made it nearly impossible later on for him to be patient with the large amounts of idiocy that was out there.

As he grew, the frightened and confused Yanagi began to disappear, his separate personalities seemingly eating up the identity of their little boy. One of the identities also began to become a prominent fixation at the surface, this person seemingly confident in himself and already sporting a rather filthy mouth. As it walked around pretending to be their son, they soon recognized that it had given a name to the other thing residing in the body as well – Naoki. Somewhat disgusted with these parasites that destroyed their child, the woman began to fall ill from the stress.

Fearing for his wife’s life, the father contacted her extended family that came from Kumogakure. They were shinobi, he once remembered his wife saying, and they had more medical techniques than the village they lived by. When they arrived, his wife’s sister immediately directed the guest they brought with them to her sister’s side to care for the ailing woman. Afterwards, she listened to the husband’s choked explanation of her sickness, finally allowing someone outside of their family to know about their son’s twisted disposition.

Almost immediately after hearing his description of Yanagi, the sister swept the boy away to better understand him. Coming from the shinobi branch of their family, the woman had heard of the Kekkei Genkai that rarely appeared in their bloodline and if there was a possibility that the boy actually possessed it, then it would be the reassurance for their clan that they continued to be strong. Sure enough, as she began conversing with him and carefully asking about what the initial boy called Naoki, the sister helped the boy understand his condition. It wasn’t a curse, it was the biggest gift one could have; a constant companion and partner.

Informing his parents that Yanagi was not actually mentally unstable, but rather in possession of the Souma no Kou relieved them. Understanding how much of an honor it was to be the way he was, the family allowed their son to leave their home to become a shinobi of Kumogakure.

Genin
The Genin years seemed to relatively fly by quickly for the boy; this was partially because of the fact that he seemed to be older than his peers and seemed to want to avoid the children as much as possible. Considering he grew up with adults that refused to talk condescendingly to him and pushed him to be well-educated, sitting through class while girls talked about cute boys, and cute boys threw food at the little girls, well; let’s just say they’re lucky Kata didn’t kill anyone and Naoki didn’t suffer an actual mental breakdown.

Moving past the theory in the classroom, utilizing what they learned practically was a new concept for Yanagi, but considering the fact that there were two brains that worked together, they accelerated through their classes rather easily, graduating as quickly as they could.

Genin wasn’t what they wanted either. Being a shinobi was great by most standards, but being placed on a team with two other people that were essentially frightened of the constant conversations that seemed to occur within their third teammate wasn’t exactly productive. The boys attempted to be social and get to know the kiddies well, but the shuffling away and interesting array of excuses did not fly right over their heads. Whatever.

Deciding right then and there that all people were stupid (Kata), the boys took time to really get in touch with their Kekkei Genkai. Living with the part of the family that actually knew about it, certainly helped. Their now favourite aunt spent many hours telling them the history of their technique, explaining what it has the potential to do, and how they can actually go about doing it. She helped them better control their chakra so that eventually, the boys were fully capable of splitting into two entirely separate entities. It was exciting to be able to converse together like regular people, but knowing that it split their chakra and that it also meant they couldn’t partake in extensive mental conversations, they fused back together, preferring to stay like that until it is utterly necessary to split apart.

Aside from the occasional need to beat the shit out of each other, that is.

Anyway, back on topic since this history is running long:

The boys, with their incompetent teammates, partook in the annual chūnin exams with many other aspiring shinobi. They kicked ass, took no prisoners (unfortunately), and didn’t kill anybody. During the final stages of competition, Yanagi gave the performance of his life, unveiling his bloodline with the showmanship of an actor. Splitting his twin from his body, the two worked in tandem, Naoki making his debut as the intelligent strategist that commanded his brother’s actions. Needless to say, they overwhelmed their opponent, won, became chūnin, and never had to work with their genin team again.

Chūnin
Once the boys reached this level, they didn’t really see a point in rushing to rank up. They had a lot of personal growth that needed to occur so that they could continue to utilize their Kekkei Genkai to its fullest potential. Thus, they spent many years taking enough solo missions to pay the bills, but did not take anything they were not interested in. They focused on their bloodline and improving the techniques that were already filling their arsenal, while Kata, unfortunately, became interested in filling their skin with ink.

At one point, Naoki took main control of their body to strengthen their minds. He meditated, studied at the library, until it came to the point that he saw a job opening as the newly erected Raikage’s assistant. Not necessarily having the strongest of repertoires with the man, Yanagi went into his interview as honest as he could be – until Kata thought it would be nice to intercede. The two sold themselves as two minds in one body that only needed one paycheck, which essentially got them the job. Nao obviously takes it a heck of a lot more seriously than Kata, but he enjoys what they do and watching the Raikage’s office when he’s away.

It’s a pretty sweet gig.

I must say this application is rather stunning, until we get to the jutsu part. Honestly, this is some of the best writing I've read in a long time (might as well have been the new Raikage Razz) But, the jutsu are an issue (the only one mind you) D: Anyways, let's begin

Concentrated Hit = Can't break bones at C Rank. Please change to 'damaging the bone'.

Creating Chemistry = Affecting the nervous system would be more of a Medical Technique, hence denied.

I Like it Rough =  Make it a C Rank, and ideally, it should just be a regular Doton Technique, not a Fuuinjutsu. I'll let it slide :/

Eye Lids: No Class, All Flash = Make it a B Rank. Again - shouldn't be a Fuuinjutsu, really... Also, only unable to see for one post, where the vision becomes blurry by the end of that post.

Left Palm and Wrist: Be My Valentine = Can only withstand one C Rank.

Reel me In = 'Electric field of hell' (?) isn't a very clear description of  what happens to the water or to a person who is trapped by the technique

Tongue and Left Cheek: Flirting with Lightning  = It's an outright ninjutsu technique, hence it's denied.

Right Arm, Wrist and Palm: Welcome, Pretties! = ...... More details on the wall (e.g height) please. Also, it can only block one B Rank technique.

Right Thumb, Forefinger and Middle Finger: Show me the Money  = Outright ninjutsu technique, hence it's denied.

Lightning Style: Paralysis Seal  = Can't be complete paralysis. Please change it to seriously hindering movement.

Rock me Hard = Outright ninjutsu technique, hence it's denied. (Also, can only withstand one B Rank technique)

My Precious = Increase the cost of releasing to 6 CP.

Come to Daddy! = Please add that it only works for scrolls present in the topic i.e. can't summon a scroll from your house etc. :/

Copyright Infringement, Away! = Same thing as Rock Me Hard. Outright paralysis is an iffy ability - I would much prefer if you said it seriously restricts the other person's movement. Also, why is it 'god reminiscent'?
