| I figured that as a fun little side(quest!)-event, we could have a Writing Competition every now and again. With some sort of reward, perhaps in the form of Points or Free Jutsu, the participants would be tasked with writing in regards to a certain topic or scenario. We would then vote on the best piece.
Now, these 'topics' could vary from something as ambiguous as a 'Waking-up Scene', to roleplaying out the perspective of Batman or writing out a Shakespearean-esque scene in the Naruto Universe. The competition would challenge us, but also hopefully, would be fun and imaginative. I for one, would be really excited to try out different eras, worlds, characters and genders. xD We could even pair up members, for example, to see who can write out the most epic 'Gun fight' or the most awkward 'romantic scene'.
Thoughts? |

| Sounds interesting, though I could see the competitions having the same winners over and over again due to a few factors. Also, with how activity has been lately I think you'd only get the same group of people submitting things. Most people can't seem to be bothered to post when they should, so for them to sit down and write out a piece for a competition seems like an extra item on their plate that they just can't handle.
Also, when you say "We would then vote on the best piece" do you mean "we" as in the entire forum community or "we" as in a panel of judges. If this does happen I'd suggest having a rotating panel of judges for every competition as different people enjoy different styles and have different biases.
As I said, it sounds interesting. Don't know how it would pan out though in the long run. |

Thoughts? This sounds like fun! I've seen sites run various creative competitions with great success (mostly). Creation is one of the most enjoyable things on RP sites and giving people creative outlets that are not confined by their existing character will likely be a very welcome addition. And we could mix it up even more. From time to time, maybe ask for poetry or lyrics or... I don't know. And the monthly winner could (and should) be added to the spotlight section.

Polling the members might work, but I agree with TOPKite. Each month can have a different panel of independent judges, applied for and selected like new moderator applications are.
----------------- I was thinking this through, and it certainly is viable. Here's my rough timetable for, say, June:
- Quote :
- 01/06/2012:
- Spoiler:
--> Declare the winner of May's writing competition, add them to the spotlight (including link to piece and the specific task it was written for) and give any other rewards.
--> Open applications for judges.
--> Post June's writing challenge. We don't need to know the judges (and even if we did, shouldn't reveal them) as it should not matter who they are. Go go, objectivity! 14/06/2012: - Spoiler:
--> Close judging applications. Three seems like a good number. 21/06/2012: - Spoiler:
--> Close competition. Any work submitted after deadline is respectfully declared invalid.
--> Judges are each asked to post a detailed review and decision before the month is out.
--> Wash, rinse, repeat.
There could even be a 'special' each December, with the eleven winners put together for one super comp. Just a thought. |

| No need for this, we already award people for writing.
